I sold Oldsmobile in 1978,Mangerelli Oldsmobile New Castle, Pennsylvania. I loved Tornado's and owned several over the years. Front wheel drive was good for winter. I think i probably owned 15 over the years. When we would get a clean trade in I couldn't resist. Also with gas prices spiked in the late seventy's driving down the value.
I sold auto parts in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s in western Pennsylvania. Had two customers in the New Castle area. I remember that dealership. Were they bought out by Preston?
@@cadillacguy1890cool,I left the area in 1980 for the Florida sunshine, sold Buick's and Oldsmobile's in Delray Beach florida, I believe Preston may have bought them out and they moved to North Hill. Sam Mangerelli was a character,I was 19 when they gave me a job. The second month I started selling there,I made,if I remember close to $3000 in a month. Tons of money back then. I now live in Thailand, wish I could buy that 78 and ship it here, haven't seen one here,it would get alot of attention. Where was your parts store?

She is a Winner Anthony. !!! These were all over the roads when I was 16. Basically the poor mans Eldorado. Beautiful Car though in its own right. Hi Papa... !!!!
Thank you Anthony for showing Oldsmobile some love on your channel and in your purchase. As a Oldsmobile owner, I say thank you. They got rid of the 455 after 1976 because they redesigned Ninety Eight and Eighty Eight and Custom Cruiser for 1977. It is a 403. The 403 was the biggest Oldsmobile engine during that time. That later was replaced by the 350 V8 then the 307 V8. The Toronado was equal to Cadillac Eldorado on the E car platform. It was on the same platform. There is a special feel in an Oldsmobile as you now see. This car was redesigned a year later in 1979. That model ran from 1979-1985. Then it was downsized in 1986. That one was a failure. It was upsized in 1990. The 1992 was the last year. This is the year I own. I own a Ninety Eight as well. I am looking to replace the Ninety Eight with another 1995-1996 Series II Ninety Eight. As far as the Toronado engine: Also for 1977, the 455 cu in (7.46 L) V8 was replaced by a smaller 403 cu in (6.60 L) engine (rated at 185HP/325 lb.ft.), due mainly to forthcoming government Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards. The reason you noticed the Cadillac styling cues is because It was a sporty GT 1966-1970. The market changed and they went in a luxury direction 1971-1978. The 1967-1970 Cadillac Eldorado styling was the basis for the styling themes. It was updated several times 1971-1978. I like the 1975-1976 years.
260 350 403 455 all used the same block if I remember correctly. 403 was also used in many trans ams. My mom’s 79 98 regency had a 403 and would smoke the tires all day.
I had several Toronados and I believe the 403 was the standard and only engine offered. If you met someone who owned a Toro, one question was "What's the worst weather you have been through with it?" They were incredible! Previously, they had a 455 V8. The ones in the later 1970's dropped to a 350 or 307. Hope my memory is correct.
Yup. It’s an Oldsmobile 403. It is a small block. The Toronado was only available with 1 engine during that time period. They would’ve had a 455, which was a big block but was discontinued after 1976. The 403 took its place. The 403 is a decent engine you just gotta keep the RPMs down and it’ll be fine. But it’s basically the same car as your Eldorado. I had a 76 Toronado and I absolutely loved it. Starting in 1977 they added a front header panel. My 76 was like your Eldorado where the hood bent down and was the front of the car. The sunroof is cool.
You scored again, Anthony. One of my friends in high school had a 76 version similar to this, except for the astro roof and leather interior. What a nice car! Gas mileage was another matter with these cars. It wasn't spectacular, to say the least. My friends 76 had the 455 cubic inch 4 brrl engine.
Fantastic purchase, Anthony! I remember when these could be seen on the road regularly. I always wanted one because of the flat floor. Congratulations!
Looks like you got an authentic car from Chicago with that note of the bullet hole ! Nice Grandpa ride, Those were rather rare even back in the day it was newer.
Really nice Toro. I had a black/red cloth interior 77 back in early 80’s. Loved it. Only problems I ever had were front axle boots constantly popping off. Car was a total tank and super comfortable with the cloth interior.
That's one cool time capsule Anthony!! Flashbacks to when I was working at one of the Boston airport parking lots. We'd have to park customer's cars....this one arrives 7 days before you do. Haha.

I carpooled with a guy to Lincoln. Tech. Back in the 80s. He drove a red old tornado. That was one sweet ride. That was like the very first car I ever been inside of that had no hump in the floor. Imagine I still remember that till this day in the year 2024.

I had owned a 1976 Brougham that I bought new, it had a 455 great car in the snow, sticker was $9036 at the time a lot of money. 1978 was last of this body series 1979 was downsized and ran until 1985.
Anthony, I haven't seen one of these in years. I had some neighbors way back in the day who were the nicest retired couple, and they had one of these which they drove back and forth from Ohio to Florida twice a year. Theirs was light blue with a white landau top and white leather interior. It will be very interesting to see what it's worth. That backseat looks brand new! Hey, if that gas gauge is correct, it's even got a full tank of gas! Can't wait to see it cleaned up! Say Hi to Papa Bear for me!

It pulled like a beast through 10 inches of unplowed snow after the blizzard of 1979, loved the flat floores, comfortable and quiet ride. It got 9 miles per gallon and that is the reason for the 403 V8 in 1977 leading up to the redesigned downsized Toronado of 1979. Good score Anthony.
