I have the 462 c-m and 500i, both are exceptional saws. If we were talking one on one there are several questions I would ask to understand your unique needs before recommending one. That being said I offer a conservative approach and will suggest a practical “work around” if on occasion your needs place you in the arena where you need a saw bar of 32” or more. Recommendation is 462 c-m with a bar length of 24”-28” and a full comp chainsaw blade. If you need a bar length of 32” or greater highly recommend a skip-chain as a “work around” for the bar. A skip-chain reduces the number of cutting teeth thus reducing the drag on the engine, reduced drag allows the engine to maintain higher rpm’s which keeps the engine running cooler. Fun fact, frequently skip chains are actually able to cut faster on longer bars than full comp chains. This happens because the saw maintains higher rpm’s due to the reduced drag of fewer cutting teeth.
I would go with the 462 man thats what i run. If you are planning on running a bigger bar than 32 inches i might lean more towards the 500i. But if you're only running in between a 20-28 inch bar the 462 is the perfect power to weight ratio in my opinion.
@TerrellWillams honestly man if you need the trailer and grappler and a better truck. I would save a few hundred dollars to get the 462 and use the money you save to help you get the other stuff you need. And the reality is the 500i is only 79 something cc versus 72.2 cc on the 462. And you have less technological things to worry about with the carburetor vs the fuel injection.
@@adamarthur9672 Thank you Brother! I was on the fence with a hard lean towards to 462 with a strong wind blowing… You were the extra push needed to choose the 462!

Depends on what you're going to tackle, brother .....462C would be more than enough, but one again dont know what you're up against. Bar length should dictate regarding OEM CC.....but 462 in my opinion, should be more than enough .
@@TerrellWillamsthere isn’t a tree on planet earth that the 462 can’t handle! Honestly I’ve ran a 500i with a 36” bar and I have a 462c with a 25” bar. Both saws are awesome but the 462c just doesn’t touch a 500i. Put a 20 or 25” bar for smaller and a 36” for the big stuff. Best all around if you ask me is the 500. If you can get a used 462c for 700 like me then I’d get that instead. I found mine on eBay auction. 2021 model that was barely used.
I asked myself the same question, do I really need one, no, I have the stihl 391 with a 25'' bar and the echo 7310 with a 32'' bar that bogs down alot, but would love to add the 500i to my inventory but I hear the 462 comes close, at 500. less., so what did you decide?
I'll try and do a video on all the saws and send it to you sometime next week. That echo 2511t gets used every day and never skips a beat. The modified 261 rips better then then my stock 362. 441magnum and 394xp are fun to buck with.

500i for sure
