Hi, I'm a second year PhD student in nanomedicine. The tech shown in this video is clever and exciting, but functionally not dissimilar to formulations I've used preclinically before, and will face all the same issues current actively targeted nanoparticles do. Most importantly, there is not much difference at all between cancer cells and our cells, only slight differences such as overexpression of certain receptors and different metabolism rates. The purpose of a technology like the one shown is to increase the therapeutic window of an anti-tumoural agent, but it will still have a limited window. This vector will have off target effects - there is simply no way they are only targeting cancer cells. There is no treatment which only targets cancer cells. These innovations take decades to reach clinic. As we improve our biological understanding of tumours, we will see the viability of this technology improve. Personally, I think this technology has a great use case in anti-bacterial treatment, as viral vectors can exclusively target bacteria. I'll do some reading about this - super interesting and ty for the video.
Although I hope it will be specific in which species of bacteria it attacks. I like to keep my digestive system working. And all 'defense' bacteria that occupy places harmful bacteria could infect if left vacant.
What about viral vectors that work by activation of 2 transcription factors that should only be present together in cancer cells? I heard good things about that kind of therapy
I was planing on writing my thesis on this idea which at the time I independantly thought of. It's exciting to see that what I've thought of before alone is also being thought of by real professional scientists around the world. It really gives me confidence in my thinking capabilities. I even once thought of a theoratical cancer vaccine which I later saw that 2 scientists got the Nobel for thinking about it. I really hope I get to do something in the future. I'm currently an undergrad in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering. And hope to study my mastar's in Synthetic Biology or Bioengineering abroad. Preferably, a Deucht or Scandanavian country. With scholarship of course.
I would like to advocate for extreme caution for creating such things. Viruses mutate. If you use the same DNA to make your Nano robot then it is also subject to mutation. Hopefully well thought out and effective safe guards are put in place. Every thing that uses DNA or mRNA to replicate is potentially dangerous due to possible mutations just ask any biologist. I can see the promise of things like that but some of the worst things in history were done with the best intentions.
Yea also imagine how much mutating DNA there is in a whole human. Just to be safe you should probably think twice about breathing. If you stop breathing then we can get rid of billions of cells that have human DNA that might mutate and become dangerous.

You know, I might be delighted if I wasn't terrified after being shown for the last 3+ years just what the pharmaceutical industry is capable of. Personally, I doubt that little trust I had before is ever coming back, but hey, that's just me, I don't mean to spoil your optimism. Also, at least for now, it seems to me that it's not so much of a "one size fits all" as it's "no size fits at all". But I suppose that's going to improve with time and more work. It appears that more nanotechnology/ nanobots videos are beginning to resurface. This was not the case before, as these types of videos were created a decade ago. This video is fantastic, and I am thankful for it. However, cancer is a nasty illness, and I believe that everyone, regardless of their issues, should seek care. I strongly advise cancer patients to join support groups so they do not have to go through it alone. Sometimes having someone who has been through what you are going through is preferable than having someone who can only fathom what you are going through. Personally, I suggest the Truth About Cancer support group. This group has about 6000 members who all support each other. They investigate alternative cancer therapies, which are really beneficial. This group can be found on the social media site facebook. I really hope that everyone survives and overcomes this dreadful illness!
Ok... But do we have that technology or everything is a concept of things that are going to come in a near or far future? At least do we have this approved and financed to develop all this in a big number to do a massive exportation to the world? Seeing the circular genetic design, and the cool looking virus thingy at first looked weird... but then by 10:07 going back to it after explaining everything - this virus/payload system seems like it will be the future of medicine, and preferably in my lifetime would be great!! lol. I imagine it will be somewhat expensive for a while until they are able to mass-produce these 'fixing' pills or liquids for anyone to take. I also feel like we've all had that thought too, and this idea brings it to life - "medicine... without the side effects"
There should be a law that makes every some citizens to reproduce these life saving machines to keep cost way down and accessible universally.

It appears that more nanotechnology/ nanobots videos are beginning to resurface. This was not the case before, as these types of videos were created a decade ago. I believe current advancements of technologies have met the requirements of developing nanotechnology/nanorobots, and have therefore set the stage for a new age to come in the healthcare industry.

This video is fantastic, and I am thankful for it. However, cancer is a nasty illness, and I believe that everyone, regardless of their issues, should seek care. I strongly advise cancer patients to join support groups so they do not have to go through it alone. Sometimes having someone who has been through what you are going through is preferable than having someone who can only fathom what you are going through. Personally, I suggest the Truth About Cancer support group. This group has about 6000 members who all support each other. They investigate alternative cancer therapies, which are really beneficial. This group can be found on the social media site facebook. I really hope that everyone survives and overcomes this dreadful illness!
