Well, I think it would be a bit more fun if we could install these from a comfortable sofa with a cold drink but so far, I think it’s all working out pretty well. 😊
Hi guys, I don’t know what it’s all about but every time I see you both. I have a big smile on my face I just love your spirit about you. Nothing seems to be too hard and you’re just having a great time. Whatever you are doing. Keep up the good work. Really appreciate your boat Cliff from Australia
Hey Cliff. Thanks for the encouragement. It gets tough at times but we usually just turn to each other and say “it will make for a great story some day” and that sees us thru. The challenges are there to make the highs even better after all. Hope we get to put a smile on your face every week for a long time to come. 😃
I watched Sailing Zatara have two new engines being taken out. Cut a large hold in the fibreglass lots of people involved etc. What you are both achieving in doing this by your selves is remarkable. Well done to you both.
Thanks. We were excited to see how those guys were going to do it. Quite the task curtain up the deck like that. We figured we should give it a go ourselves and see how we got on. Pretty pleased we didn’t have to cut up indioko too much to get both engines in while only using two chain hoists and some creativity. 😜
Great energy yet again. I think you should have a flat washer and spring washer on the nut at the bottom of engine mount. It won’t be something you will ever look at. But without it or a least some lock tite on the threads will mean the nuts will likely vibrate loose.
Cheers! Yes, we actually put lock tight on there but it was impossible to show on camera as the space we are working in is just too small. Good catch tho. Don’t want these guys jumping back out the boat after all the effort putting them in 😊
As a note from watching others Sailing Channels Like SV Delo and seeing Brian always use a Fuel Filling Filter when adding fuel to his Sailboat after sailing for 13 years around the world he kept foreign items out of his fuel in his vintage engine all with added inline fuel filters and doing his engine maintacene of oil and oil Filter changes based on hours. with the new twins in your boat hope all info you have learned will help you keep your healthy for many years to comeother
Absolutely. Having spoken with Brian a bit about our engine situation (back in Taouat) we have actually got a few filters in our system that feeds each tank and on the lines to the engines them selves. Like proud parents, we are going to be taking far too much care to look after these shiny blue twins 😊
Amazing how things just seem to “work” with great minds! Watching even gives me a sense of accomplishment, I can’t imagine how great you guy’s must feel, now that you’ve got the first one under your belt. Now be honest, it was the inside - out tee shirt that made it all come together, right? You make me feel like all is right with the World, watching you nail one thing after another….They just end so fast, I’m always shocked to realize they’re as long as they are & I always wish each one was longer!!🍀
Still have to pinch ourselves when we realise what we are doing, floating in the water, on a works dock, with only the boom and some chain hoists to make it all work. So pleased that you enjoy the episodes. We really try to make you feel like you’re with us at every step. The wins and the falls. Not sure UA-cam would be up for a feature length film however. Sure some people are sick of hearing us guessing our way along after 25 min or so. 😂
Told ya Crazy Scottish Engineers will make anything work and feet are useful tools for holding spanners. Congrats you two and now have a wee dram to congratulate yourselves.
Haha cheers. It must be in the blood. When you don’t have the right tools, improvise and it will somehow come together. Probably not in the official handbook but hey! 😊
Just hope we got it right. Could be a really bad day if we don’t. If only engine mounds could be easily adjusted left to right as much as up and down. 😜
Can't believe you only have 9.22 k subs. You showed up on my utube with your new engine episode. Enjoyed it and am now binge watching. Up to episode 58 now. You're so much fun to watch, informative, and competent, although you play that part down. Great show.
Haha yeah you perhaps missed the in off competent some times 😂 so pleased to have you following along. Hope the binge watch has been fun and we don’t put you off. 😀 it’s been a fun ride and we just hope that people can spread the word of our mis-adventure to build up more of a red seas family that are hopefully all inspired to do their own kind of crazy. 🤪 cheers for watching
I didn't want to comment but nobody else has, you need to mechanically attach the new engine beds to the old. Bolting down the engine to your new engine beds, tightening a nut to a piece of timber is a no no, large steel washers plus a spring washer/nylock nut is the minimum required. If you don't attend to this expect problems in the future. You have achieved a lot with hard work and common sense, well done. You get a lot of accolades from people who know nothing, please digest what I have said and stay safe.
I think we may simply have missed this detail in the edit of the episode. The new engine beds (and mounts) are attached to the old engine beds thru both fibreglass and 10mm stainless steel with bolts, spring washers, penny washers loctight and double nuts 😜 figured why stop there, we used nylon nuts where we could fit them too. Hopefully it will last plenty of miles and we can look to glass in the beds when we are somewhere with better resources. Appreciate you looking out for us and thanks for watching.
@@RedSeas no worries at all with it being bolted through that steel plate, glassing over the new risers on to the old ones using epoxy will make it even more bullet proof.
@@RedSeas I use a Poly Flex coupling myself and these will take a tiny bit of misalignment, but you need to check again after the engines have settled in. Also, I believe they electrically insulate the prop shaft from the engine. This can help with marina stray currents.
Great job on mounting the engines, love the blue, who gets to polish the engines Will be so wonderful to see you motor away from the dock with a big grin on your faces! That’s been a lot of hard work & yes you deserve a Dram or 2, I like the t-shirt idea See you next week Cdn. Dave
😂 I think we just need to remember to pull the plug at the back. We normally do but this time we totally forgot. Guess we’ve been trapped in this marina too long 😜 it’s been useful to catch a bit of water in linc in the past as we can use it for laundry but a whole dingy worth is a little excessive.
Found you last week and have been binge watching to date; so far ive got to your panama crossing adventures. Looks although your following a similar route to Sailing Yacht Florence - I recomend them as well as Slim and Soph.
Wow cool. Thanks for watching. Hope you have enjoyed the adventure so far. It’s had a few unexpected twists I gives you could say. So much more to come too 😃
Well the physically hard part is done. Now on to a different challenge. Though I think this one will be a lot easier. Not so much heavy lifting but "Boat Yoga" will be needed.
We managed to reuse the access holes for most of the mounts but did have to create a new one for one of the forward mounts as there wasn’t an access hole there for some reason. Don’t know how they managed to fit the original mount without one but perhaps they did something during the moulding process.
Polyester resin is very poor at being used as glue, epoxy is far better as a glue and methacrilic is what they use to glue deck to hull joints. You need cobalt or carbide drills to drill stainless steel trying to use standard HSS bits you need to sharpen then very precisely several times per hole.
Hey, yeah it was a mission drilling thru the stainless steel, even when we were using carbide bits. Keeping them cool and lubricated was critical but so much work. As for the glue process, we were forced to use poly as it is obviously cheaper and we already had some on board. Epoxy would have been better but I guess this way we can always paint the new risers in gel coat to match the existing ones finish. Wouldn’t be an option with epoxy.
I’m just imagining Brioni skipping over the dock lines as they swing around in the storm now. Singing some some that boys will never understand and risking broken ankles with every step
Just came across this channel. It looked promising but I'm afraid it's far too excitable The lady seems to burst into hysterical laughter for no apparent reason and shouts woohoo a lot. It all comes across as a bit false and playing up to the camera. pity.
Hey! Thanks for checking us out. You’ve probably found us at one of our more exciting moments. These engines are the answer to almost 12 months of hanging in the balance, unsure if our dream was over and we would have to sell the boat. We never play up to the camera as neither of us are any good at acting. Quite simply, what you see is what you get with us. Full of excitement for this wild ride we are on and hope to share it with as many people as care to join us. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but perhaps check out a few other episodes to get a feel for us. We have been working really hard on these engine installs so we are probably a little delirious by now. Thanks again for taking to time to check out the channel and hope we put a smile on your face every now and then.

Nice job guys can’t wait to hear them roaring
Thanks Jeff. Us too!!! So close to hearing those puppies. Just hope they actually work and we haven’t done something we shouldn’t have
Well done, aligning engines to shafts can be a time consuming PIA, and is one of the reasons a lot of the big manufacturers use saildrives
Just hope we got it right. Could be a really bad day if we don’t. If only engine mounds could be easily adjusted left to right as much as up and down. 😜
‘Ya you doing it right’ 👍🏼 injection of confidence. It looks right from this end if that helps…lol
😂 perfect. Just keep an eye on it while we clamber all around the engine and knock it into position please
You are both very energenic and funny. Awesome watching and listening. Brioni, you are a lovely nutcase. I say with deep respect!
We should put that on a T-shirt. 😂
Just amazing guys, bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Nice job! and a bit jealous, those engines are soooo bright! Happy for you guys, you've done so well. fairly deserved!!!
Cheers! We just have to find ways to keep them bright now…that and to get them running, that’s going to be necessary also. 😜
@@RedSeas I'm sure you;ll do well!
As always well done you two
Cheers! It’s been hard going but after these bad boys fire up, we should be back out in the blue in no time.
You are really doing yourself proud. Nicely done.
Cheers. We are getting there. The proof will be if these engines will actually fire up. Perhaps we are actually doing it all wrong. 😂
You got your own swimming pool 🤪
“Catamaran major upgrade! Everyone should have one” 😂
Jiggle jiggle wiggle wiggle and you never went to the man tool a big hammer, well done the two of you.
It got close to that a few times. 😊

Those engine mount should have some left right movement?
They do in a way. You use the shape of the bolt hole to adjust the position. Just hard to know we are moving the engine correctly.
