    I managed to get a newer Optiplex 7040 with an i7-6700 and 16 gigs of DDR4 for $100 plus shipping on eBay. I put a GTX 1650 and an m.2 ssd and it runs like a champ. All told I spent about $285 which is still pretty cheap for an entry-level gaming PC. Cheers!

      I really need to look more into the modern Optiplex systems. The only thing I don’t like is you can’t really replace PSUs. They are built more proprietary than the older systems.

      @@PCTechHustle I think I've seen a video where someone took an SFF (SFX?) power supply and was able to fit it into the newer Optiplex chassis. But I just stuck with a video card that ran off the PCIE slot.

      If it’s the same seller you definitely got it at a discount. The unit that I saw for that price came with an i5 6500, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB SSD. It’s up to $132 now.

      @@PCTechHustle there’s two ways you can go about it:
      One involves butchering the rear of the case.
      The other would involve 3D printing a funnel to mount the PSU further inwards.
      You’re right, adapters would still need to be addressed.

      I had a 7010 MT at my work back in 2011, and it was an expensive PC at the time. These things are high miles, and still holding strong because they were top of the line back then. In 2011 an i7 and 32 gb of ram was overkill for everything.

    @walterlegere1403 Рік тому +15

    Some things you need to watch out for that were not mentioned in this video that I have run into doing this same thing.
    1) All of your business-type PC built during this and even later generations (like Dell, HP and Lenovo) are completely "proprietary" in design meaning the ability of using after market components on these systems is very limited - example, many Dell PC's use completely proprietary power supplies and many of the older systems power connector "pin outs" were not compatible with the standard ATX power supplies. I learned this the hard way. Even though the main power connector looks exactly the same, it's wired completely different so make sure an ATX unit will work in your model.
    2) Make sure whatever system you use for an upgrade has all the latest updated device drivers and system BIOS version installed BEFORE you start tweaking the system and adding things. These can be found on most manufacturer's web sites as well as system specs and upgrade path as well. This goes for the latest Windows 10 version as well. These older systems will not load Windows 11.
    3) Most of these dated systems do not include Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections so you'll be required to add a wi-fi card or dongle of some kind and will not be compatible with the latest connection standards like 802.11ax and so on so your connection speeds will be stuck at 2.4GHz.
    4) These older system are also limited to DDR3 RAM and USB 3.0 and the bus speeds are locked as well so there is no real over-clocking capability on these systems.
    5) Once these older systems are maxed out your "upgrade path" becomes almost non-existent and the further we go into the future there is a real possibility your "budget" build will be obsolete and unusable. That's something to keep in mind.
    6) With used PC component prices coming down I highly recommend saving a little more money and building a system from scratch. I built a 7th Gen Intel 7700K system with a used Asrock Z270 mainboard, 16GB of DDR4 2400 RAM, an 8GB EVGA GTX 1080 GPU, a 256GB NVMe M.2 drive, a 2TB HDD storage drive pulled from another system, 5 RGB 120MM fans with controller, a new Cougar mesh tower case, used 650watt platinum rated modular power supply (but no wi-fi) for just under $575 total. It will play any game I load on it at medium or low settings (1080p) AND, I have no upgrade limitations at all.

    I did a similar build to this, the optiplex had a little better of a cpu, it turned out to like 160 dollars. I can't lie, this thing runs better than my prebuilt hp pavilion. the pavilion has like 400k items on the registry, has an rx 550, and no ssd, but the cpu and ram are better. However, I HIGHLY recommend this build. I spent pocket change on it, and it runs better than my friends PC which cost 10 times as much. It is more than I expected. Additionally, this thing does not even break a sweat running any of my games, when most PCs would heat up a little bit or get louder. This one sounds like it's off no matter what it's running. Incredible.

    lol I did pretty much this exact build in 2017. A 7010 MT with a i7 was $200 and I got a RX560 for $75. Now it's 6 years later and you can just barely get a better GPU for $100. That shows you how bad the GPU market got, and how bad inflation is.

    I love an optiplex build as much as the next man - amazing value, stop e waste. But watch out for the power delivery through the slot - some smaller ones don't do the full 75W needed.
    Windows support for pre 8th gen processors gets cut off in 2025 I think? Fine if you're ok with Linux or rolling the dice I guess.

      @@PigyOstudiosofficailchannel Honestly those games are very Cpu dependant. If you want to play minecraft and roblox any of these old systems should do. Optiplex 7020, 9020, etc or even an Hp Elitedesk 800 (which is what I have) and can run Minecraft on 60fps without a client and roblox good as well. Also when you do get a computer and you may not be hitting 60fps on Minecraft download a client like Lunar, Bad Lion, or feather. The frame rates for me skyrocket to 200+ fps with MAX settings turned on. Make sure to get a good(ish) gpu when playing harder games to run like some esports titles like csgo, apex, valorant, etc.

    • @Cheezy_Bunz
      @Cheezy_Bunz Рік тому

      @@PigyOstudiosofficailchannel No problem. Also remember to check the form factor on the pc you buy. If you get a sff (small form factor) you MUST use a low profile gpu or else it wont fit. Plus sff pcs dont have an extra pin connector to connect a regular sized gpu.
      Heres my criteria for selecting a gpu if its a sff. 1.Dont get one over 75w as it will require a pin to connect it 2.buy a low profile gpu 3.Dont get a crappy one like a gt730 or gt750 (my gpu is a gt1030 which is not the best but it does the job especially for what you aim to play) 4. Make sure your gpu is at least a ddr4 but aim for a ddr5 or gddr6 type as these are much faster than 3 or 4 5. And finally aim for a 4gb vram card. 2gb will suffice but if you can attempt to get 4.
      Also make sure to take measurements of your computer to make sure it fits in the case. Assuming you’re an absolute newbie then also download your drivers from nvidia and make sure to watch videos and research. I hope this helps and if anyone reading this wants to correct me on any mistakes I made feel free.
      Edit: Final piece of advice. Dont get scammed with a refurbished system of of Amazon. If you go that route then make sure it actually has a decent gpu and cpu. Currently for these systems I’d say an i5 4770 or i7 4770 and the best is an i7 4790
