    The best single thread performance for that series is actually the W-2265, which boosts to 4.8Ghz. Even though it has a lower base clock speed than W-2245 (3.5 vs the 3.9) it has a higher TDP so it will uplift to full turbo faster.

      That CPU is WAY too expensive (lowest ebay price is over $500) to be worth the marginal (if any) boost it will give you. You are far better off getting a w-2195 which has 18 cores for workloads ($350) and better off with a 2145 ($100) for gaming in terms of bang for the buck. The difference between the 2265 and 2145 are barely noticeable in gaming and the price difference is ridiculous. You may as well build an Intel 13,600k system and save yourself money if you are spending 500 on an old Xeon.

    Guys, if ur interested in alternatives, theres a workstation from HP called HP Z4 G4, I think its a better looking design, its smaller and more compact and the size and dimensions are very similar to a standar atx case. First off, great channel! I have a P520 / W-2135 as well, 32GB quad channel and 3070. I think the W-2245 did so well due to the extra cores but more importantly, L3 cache size. I think it has 16.5mb of cache vs the 8.25mb of the P520 / W-2135. I think the W-2255 would be best though with a few more cores...speed still there at 4.5 ghz but 19.25mb of L3 cache. For the money though, the W-2135 is the way to go for now!

    • @aku2dimensional
      @aku2dimensional 8 місяців тому +1

      @antondovydaitis2261 I wondered the same thing and browsed online for a fan array that'll fit a single 5.25 expansion bay slot, not a lot of options but some ugly expansion caddies do have fans. I'm using an optical drive so the best option I've come up with is a ventilated cover from a Dell PowerEdge T420 and mount a 40mm fan that will plug into the DIMM fan connections. You could probably just find a way to mount a fan in the expansion cage and get something to cover the front plate if you wanted, nothing fancy.
      I also thought about getting a new CPU cooler myself, the clearance inside the case with side panel and handle is only about 130mm so I was looking into something like a Thermalright Silver Soul 110, 110 mm high by 94 mm long, enough to clear the case and RAM. Although, I might just keep the stock cooler because these machines were designed to run 24/7 workloads with two enterprise GPUs, if Lenovo thinks that is good enough then it should be okay to use. You can do whatever you like, of course.

    Upgrading an old Brickstation isn't a mistake, just wouldn't spend the wampum for expensive old hardware since a complete rebuild could be a better value.
    Also, I had seen someone on Lenovo support forums asking about CPU upgrades for the P520 and I believe that the Lenovo staff had said some Xeons required a different P520 motherboard depending on which Intel model you wanted. The 2245 here fits right into the 2135 socket without a problem but those large core Xeons probably need a different board.

    Does the p520 only take specific ram? Can I not use ddr4 2666 consumer ram? I just bought a p520 online and it won't detect any ram. The people who sold it to me says it will only take 'BR1 RAM' which is the first I've heard of.

      @@PCTechHustle That's fair. But I personally believe that there are no benefits using a 24GB card over a 8GB card for 1080. Maybe a slight increase fps but not worth the extra money.

  • @SeeJayPlayGames

    If you could bifurcate (quad-furcate?) the GPU and CPU cores and virtualize it all into like 4 VM's, you could have a 4-client home cloud gaming server that you could access with low power hardware. I'm not sure if AMD supports this. I know NVIDIA does, but (officially) only on certain cards? But really, you still wouldn't need 256 GB of RAM. Honestly you could get away with 64GB for that. Not sure WHAT 256GB of RAM is useful for in 2024 besides maybe large-model AI training.

    • @PCTechHustle
      @PCTechHustle  5 місяців тому

      Interesting ideas for sure! I’d have to read up on doing something like. That sounds like something Craft Computing specializes in. Yes 256GB of RAM is complete overkill. Likely would be best for deploying VMs and dividing up the resources.

    • @SeeJayPlayGames
      @SeeJayPlayGames 5 місяців тому

      @@PCTechHustle It is; I saw some of his videos on doing it. Definitely Jeff's thing. 256GB would give you enough RAM for at least 6 16GB VMs plus 32GB left over for the host system. So it's not totally overkill but it is overkill. This would be an argument for one of those 28-core CPUs, as well... maybe 24 cores split 4 ways for the VMs and 4 cores left for the system? That could work. But it would be slower than using 2 14-core CPUs instead... And maybe two top-tier / workstation video cards to split up instead of one.

      Depends on what you're doing. A lot of programs and applications open then you want more ram. If you're only using 1 or 2 then less ram and higher speed is likely better.

    Hate to say but this huge space waster has phased out, that's why it's cheapy....it's not the trend for 2024 and beyond.... mini gaming PCs have taken over now for nearly that same price, except the Asus Rog Nuc which is priced insanely... if you like big heavy then that's for you...

      Not sure I agree with all of this. Yes it’s older, big, and nearly on its way out but still has massive potential. Mini PCs are cool I guess but have no where near the potential of this machine.
