It’s been correctly pointed out that I neglected to include in this Part 2 the first Ask Larry “Bud” Headroom from September 15, 1986. It is included, though, in my Headroom collection, uploaded here - ua-cam.com/video/pd2DztHiSiY/v-deo.html.
Thank you for all of your compilations...this one was great! I loved Larry "Bud" Melman and I had not seen a lot of these. 1:00:35...I know his singing got played for laughs, but I really liked his "Time In A Bottle" rendition. He did " Gentle On My Mind" on the show in another compilation of yours (I think it was "Kenny The Gardener") and I really liked it a lot as well. It's been great watching your Late Night compilations during this COVID-19 situation...thank you again!

1:11:44 June 25,1986, After seeing this bit only one time I repeated that response from Larry Bud for thirty five years whenever the topic of theater would come up including once at a Thanksgiving dinner, so happy to have found it on UA-cam .. : )
I have waited 36 years to once again hear the sage advice offered at 4:00 and now that it can be replayed at will we as males must memorize it and heed Mr. Melman's advice.
Bernard Meltzer had a popular call-in radio program called "What's Your Problem?" in the 1980s. At the end of each call, he'd direct his producer to send the caller a tee shirt.
I remember watching almost all the episodes with the Dancing Waters before the threatened legal action caused judicious editing and prudent pruning. Except... I'm fairly sure most of them were reruns and were still unedited. Wonder if there was a second layer of lawyers later, insisting on a desisting.
@Jimmy Carolina 1985 was the peak. By 1995 I was saying "what the f--- happened to everyone?" By 2005, when smartphones and texting showed up, I was in full Dr. Johnny Fever "this is deeply bent" mode
plaws0 Do you remember the “Dancing Waters” in front of Dave’s desk? Due to copyright issues, the fountain’s name had to be changed, so it was replaced with “Prancing Fluids.” What I included here was a rebroadcast, so to avoid litigation, the earlier, original name had to be muted.
@@dongiller I do! And I didn't remember the story. I can recite all the New Catch-phrases but don't have any recollection of AMM. But Melman-san is brilliant.
The source was a repeat, so deliberate by the show, since it was after they were legally prohibited from using the name and had since replaced it with “prancing fluids.”
Hey Don, not sure if you see all these but how come the prize for June 25, '86 is a bag of cheese curds? I can tell it's some in joke/theme going on that night but what's the context? Thanks!
In the afterlife, when and IF I die, I will be doing nothing but asking Mr. Melman a series of long multi-part questions. I hope he is ready. Cause I've got some doozies.

God I miss this version of the show. Crisp, witty, absurd and most of all fun! Thanks for this!

Larry Bud really nailed it. This may be close to the pinnacle of his amazing career.
Mr Melman's laughter is what keeps me going every day.
Use it as a ringtone
"Late Nite " is no more , Thanks to this wonderful channel it still lives !
I sure hope I can find "Brother Theodore" here.

It was sad to hear of Larry Bud’s passing. He was such a character. RIP.
Yeah, literally one of a kind. Rarer than even Michael Jordan.
Larry Bud! I could watch him forever!
Thanks for this posting, brings back such happy memories. Wish I could go back to these times... : /
A friend of mine gave me his book “Cheap Advice”. It was funny as hell.
Larry should get more credit, he really does his best and is legitimately funny at times with his timing and readings.
Great memories of staying up late watching this show when I should have been sleeping. I was always falling asleep in High School but it was worth it!
Yeah, I watched it every night my senior year of high school (86 - 87). Because of it, I would miss first period at least a couple days a week. 😆
I graduated in 85.
@@todd8414 I was cutting class to stay up late and watch Letterman, then NBC News Overnight.
This was a great bit. Such a great program. Miss it so much.
You the man, Don
28:47 to see Ralph Cirella, Howard Stern’s annoying future hairdresser
His question: what are the best investments of the 80s are?
Answer: invest in razors to shave Howard's stomach.
Not future: he was already weaving How-Id's extensions at this point.
Wow, is that him?

Ever since the first airing, my brother and I have said "what kind of a caftan is that, Larry?" and "It's a flowing caftan, Dave." to each other.
Where would one even find a non-flowing caftan?
These are so perfect. Thank you so much Don
Who were the writer(s) and segment producer(s) during this "Ask Melman" segment time-frame? This is such sheer brilliance!
Can you believe you can still get those black-white composition books?
Larry possessed the polar opposite of “comedic timing”
And oddly, comedic in itself... He was an enigma, too deep for most scholars to delve into...😎🇺🇸
Letterman's whole method was irony, and Larry Bud having no ability but turning that into greatness epitomized that.
the perfect antidote to being able to anticipate what he'd do and when - made it even more funny and keeps your attention.
Without a script maybe but I defy anyone to read those and make them half as entertaining.
By definition that is false. His timing made you laugh which is the purpose of Comedy.
Great times - good to remember TV comedy when it was still
awesome .
Thanks for sharing .
I have waited 36 years to once again hear the sage advice offered at 4:00 and now that it can be replayed at will we as males must memorize it and heed Mr. Melman's advice.
The magical smell of men enjoying themselves 😂😂😂
I love that Paul said, “I’m sorry you had to hear that” when he gave her the prize! 😂
That’s the one I’m looking for, haven’t heard it since 85 , have used that line many times over the years
i miss the past terribly. I miss Letterman
I didn't realize sweaters were so popular in 1986. Year of the Sweater!
Ralph from Howard Stern at 28:52
That is hilarious!
No shit
Nice catch!
Look at those hair styles. Truly 80’s.
Always LOVED the "Ask Mr. Melman" segments! The NBC "Late Night" was tons better than the CBS show!
Larry "Bud"was part of that Late Night magic, definitely.😂
"I wear the uniform because it makes me look good. DAMNED good!"
One of my favorite lines ever! 🤣🤣🤣
Dave's "Don't come by the house" remark is kind of eerie knowing what would happen a few years later...
1:13:00 "And everywhere the magical smell of men enjoying themselves." Holy... fuck.
I love the "Tokyo" segment. So funny that the people she's translating for speak better English than she does.
Excellent!
Thank u!!
They need to make a movie about Larry
1:08:21 Were the June, July and August 1986 shows shot in a different studio?
Yes, in SNL’s studio, 8H, while 6A was being renovated.
Don Giller Are you sure that’s the SNL stage? It looks much bigger plus Lorne Michaels is crazy superstitious about the studio.
Ohana Films Positive. Dave himself gave a tour when the show moved into 8H.
@@dongiller You are the only person I would trust on this :)
1:12:00 A trenchant and powerful analysis of Broadway.
28:49 Ralph Cirella???? Should have been asking Stootering Juan for investing advice.
Thank you.
I think I messed myself laughing so hard regarding his New Hampshire comments!
Thank you so very much for doing this, dude!
These were good days😀

@@dongiller Thank you for your legion service. Some of us do read your descriptions. Also, your UA-cam name can be read as 'dong iller'.
29 minutes in its Ralph Cirella from the howard stern show. He recently passed away.
Is there a reason to the 2 T-shirt bit? Or is it just to be funny? Either way I love it
Was there a reason for any of this? :)

The Dancing Waters were renamed the Prancing Fluids..for legal reasons lol
Master of the craft.
You missed the September 15, 1986 Larry "Bud" Headroom appearance.
Aw crap, I did. Damn.
It is included in the Headroom Collection on Letterman - ua-cam.com/video/pd2DztHiSiY/v-deo.html
i have one of the shirts, but seeing the originals in these videos i’m now thinking mine may be counterfeit
They're plain white t-shirts?
If you purchasde it at the "Hello Deli", it probabyl is.
I can't believe how fucking good this is
when did we lose this as a society

So many Drew University students! There's a third one at 1:40:40, right behind Dave to his left.
Lots of college kids, whenever he asked a person doing pet tricks 75% said college.

1:09:00 security guard asks audience member to remove statue of liberty headgear.
Holy cow!!!there's Ralph Cirella from the Howard Stern Show at 28 minutes and 51 seconds...someone send this to the Stern show!!!!

DEAD.
28:46 Ralph Cirella, Howard Stern's former stylist.
Thanks. I thought he was him, but I wasn’t sure. He’s no longer working with Howard?
DEAD.
3:08 Larry Bud Melman, could have been a supreme court justice.
@28:45 R.I.P Ralph Cirella
28:51 Ralph from the Howard Stern show!

HOLY MULLET OF ALL MULLETS at 26:50 !
I don't think Dave really needed to ask him what kind of music he played.
Handshakes and how do you do’s….wow, I forgot how high society we used to be. The Kanye West era has been strange at best.
He looks so young here! Larry 'Bud', I mean
Is he a prop or is this improv?
He's still an enigma, to this day....😎🇺🇸
Set-up as usual, nothing original
Melman is so darn cute even if he does say anything.
Funny how he made fun of the guy that wouldn't stop shaking his hand then in the next segment he
wouldn't let go of that pretty lady's...
