I first watched this video on July 28, 2022 and solved it for the first time. Now on October 19, 2023, I am sub-25 with Roux and moved on from the beginner method. This simple toy has become my biggest obsession and even got a friend to learn from you and also moved onto Roux.
I remember I was here on 2019 to solve a Rubik cube. I figured out how to solve it and my best time is 49 seconds. Now I'm back here again because I forgot how to solve it lol

I know im a little late to this video but i just want to say i am SOOO thankful i found it. Your instructions are so clear i have actually managed to complete a cube for the first time in my life after trying for many decades to do so lol. I am now trying to learn to be able to redo the cube without having to use your video while doing so. Still gotta come back here and there but im getting there.
Wow! Finally! a tutorial that EXPLAINS what each of the steps does, instead of just shoving an algorithm to memorize down my throat! I am revisiting to solve the rubik's cube again because my girl was given a cube for Childrens' day. I went thru many other tutorials and only get ever so confused, then I remembered Kevin's 3 yrs old daughter, I am so thankful to find this youtube again! It's the best ever! This video deserves more views and likes! I still could solve the 1st 2 layers easily and yellow cross, but need to look at the algorithm for small/big fish, then the corner & final 😀 Thank you so much Kevin for making this so easy for us!

this is super great. the only thing is that I know it's hard for you to go a bit slower with the turns, but I think it would help people fallow you if you don't flick the middle finger so fast it looks like nothing moved it was so fast. just a thought thanks for the vid still trying to break my way of solving the cube. I kind of made my own way and it takes me a long time to do it and yes, this vid helps me do it so much faster thank you for that.
30 min video I just watched multiple hours lol 😂 repeated multiple times. I think I just did steps 1&2 twenty times. I completed the cube of once lol thank you though I have now found a new obsession

I learned cubing first time last year from watching this video. I’m a middle aged working mom and not as quick as young kids, but I was able to learn in three days (only in the evening after work), each layer per evening. Even though now I watch JPerm more(sorry...), I can say that this video is the BEST for beginners. Far better than any other popular cubers out there. It’s also easier to move to CFOP. This deserves 10 million views. (The only issue was the flick was sometimes too fast for me as a beginner, so I watched with slower playing speed like x.5 or x.25. Then the sound becomes really funny, but it helped)
That's awesome. Thank you for the support and honest feedback. In future tutorials I will try to slow down the turns. This was the first tutorial I made and it was after an 11 year absence from cubing so I still had the muscle memory down but had a hard time trying to slow down without getting lost. Kevin Gittemeier I explored a few beginner method videos and concluded that your video was the best in the end. I love how you explain the first layer by tapping the white sticker on the side, and second layer by chasing special rabbits, and third layer with little fish and big fish concept instead of calling it sune. It’s such a great way to remember. But as a beginner, it was hard to see quick turn as simple as sexy moves or sledge hammer when I had no idea about basic turns. I think that’s why it was the hardest to learn the first layer, then second layer, and actually third layer was the easiest to learn cuz it’s based on algorithm (and you kindly shows the notation on screen) If you have any plans to upload beginner video again, I want to say keep the method as it is (it’s great, nothing to change), just move it a bit slower (even simple move like RUR’ to kick the wrong edge out) so that beginners can see where the piece actually goes and how it moves. (I watched over and over again with .25x play speed to fully understand) Now I moved to CFOP but still sometimes watch this video. Now it just makes so much more sense than I watched first time!
Thanks, I eventually will make another 3x3 tutorial incorporating the feedback I received on this one, namely slowing down. I will get some more practice and experience making tutorials doing the others (Megaminx, Pyraminx etc) then when I remake the 3x3 is should be better. It was a lot more work than I anticipated and my time is limited so it’s difficult for me to make these. Emily tried to make a Pyraminx tutorial but had to shoot several takes and the final one she said wasn’t worthy of editing so she’ll have to shoot it again. It just takes practice, experience, failure and time. Her time is even more limited than mine though. “If you want to increase your success rate double your failure rate”
I like his idea of showing us with the stickers removed for each step! I am thinking of purchasing a Lego one in which the colors are removable and mastering each step until the cube has no more blank spots.
Good idea, but don’t be afraid that you won’t get it solved. You will eventually and worst case scenario you can disassemble a regular cube and reassemble correctly. When I got my cube no algorithms were known yet, so it took me 7 hours to solve it. I still have it, it doesn't turn very fast though. It has blue opposite of white, yellow opposite of green.
This is the easiest tutorial than others....the others don't teach algorithms....thanks so much...I solved this in 1 min.....I bought my 3 by 3 yesterday to practice and now I can solve.....tysm

This is the best solve video I've viewed so far. You actually explained the whys of the steps and the algorithms, which is much more valuable to know, than some rote memorization of several algorithms.
I'm here to thank you. I've been cubing for 3 months and my averagre when I started it 1min-50 second. Now I can average about 15-20 seconds and I'm still using some of your algorithms thank you so much for making this video. I will update this comment again soon If I make some progress.

Yours wan the inly one I watched till the end and rewatching it today all over again. Why? Cause I love it! A bit more practice and I will be able to solve it all by myself. Then I'll teach my 4 y/o daughter all of that :) Btw, the gear icon and settings didn't help - you're still too fast for me. @@KTFG That move you do @26:54 after you say "Just flick them to the back" I could only see properly watching it 1 frame at the time. And what seemed like 1 move turned into 3 :) Isn't it what they do in NBA (and other games of course) after each match when they want to study their opponents moves? Watch in slo-mo and learn the techniques :) Welll.... I guess Netflix's gonna have to wait then :D Tahnk again!
At 25:53 I explain that we find two corners the same and we place them to the back. That is the important part and is done slowly. How I move them to the back or how quickly I moved them to the back the third time after showing the same move is irrelevant. I make this more clear in future tutorials, you’re not supposed to follow my every movement especially when I’m repeating it fast after I’ve already taught how to do it and I’m just showing how quickly and easily it can be done once familiar. But thank you for taking your time to explain to me your troubles because I will use that information in future tutorials. Remember to treat it like a question on a test that you don’t know. Skip it and go on and usually the question will answer itself either through your “now” better understanding or by actually giving you the information in a different manner. This video has good tips like what to do if during first layer phase there's a white "on top", saving moves. Also it helps visualize and understand what's going on during second layer corner alignment.

Problems with Layer 2? At 11:45 I explain and demonstrate how to locate and insert an Edge into the Right side of Layer 2. If your Edge needs to go to the Left side, Just do the mirror of that from the Left side as seen at 14:58 . Orange touching Orange, Green away from Green (turn top CCW rather than CW) kick the Corner out and chase the Edge, pair up and re-insert. Make sure to look at and understand the concept of connecting Corners and Edges, not just follow notation. When filming I had an even number of solves from both sides (Left & Right) but when editing I accidentally got a disproportionate number of solves from the Right side. Let me know if that helps.
Thanks for making this video. When I learned how to solve the 3x3 originally I learned it with F2L so I skipped over some of what is in this video. However, I needed this when I went to solve my mirror cube. I came across your video and "learned" the beginners method which I then used for my mirror cube. I first watched this video on July 28, 2022 and solved it for the first time. Now on October 19, 2023, I am sub-25 with Roux and moved on from the beginner method. This simple toy has become my biggest obsession and even got a friend to learn from you and also moved onto Roux.

I am revisiting to solve the rubik's cube again because my girl was given a cube for Childrens' day. I went thru many other tutorials and only get ever so confused, then I remembered Kevin's 3 yrs old daughter, I am so thankful to find this youtube again! It's the best ever! This thing is crazy.. i love ur tutorial.. its just so simple than any other..
this is super great. the only thing is that I know it's hard for you to go a bit slower with the turns, but I think it would help people fallow you if you don't flick the middle finger so fast it looks like nothing moved it was so fast. just a thought thanks for the vid still trying to break my way of solving the cube. I kind of made my own way and it takes me a long time to do it and yes, this vid helps me do it so much faster thank you for that.

I learned cubing first time last year from watching this video. I’m a middle aged working mom and not as quick as young kids, but I was able to learn in three days (only in the evening after work), each layer per evening.
Even though now I watch JPerm more(sorry...), I can say that this video is the BEST for beginners. Far better than any other popular cubers out there. It’s also easier to move to CFOP.
This deserves 10 million views.
(The only issue was the flick was sometimes too fast for me as a beginner, so I watched with slower playing speed like x.5 or x.25. Then the sound becomes really funny, but it helped)
That's awesome. Thank you for the support and honest feedback. In future tutorials I will try to slow down the turns. This was the first tutorial I made and it was after an 11 year absence from cubing so I still had the muscle memory down but had a hard time trying to slow down without getting lost.

Kevin Gittemeier I explored a few beginner method videos and concluded that your video was the best in the end.
I love how you explain the first layer by tapping the white sticker on the side, and second layer by chasing special rabbits, and third layer with little fish and big fish concept instead of calling it sune.
It’s such a great way to remember.
But as a beginner, it was hard to see quick turn as simple as sexy moves or sledge hammer when I had no idea about basic turns.
I think that’s why it was the hardest to learn the first layer, then second layer, and actually third layer was the easiest to learn cuz it’s based on algorithm (and you kindly shows the notation on screen)
If you have any plans to upload beginner video again, I want to say keep the method as it is (it’s great, nothing to change), just move it a bit slower (even simple move like RUR’ to kick the wrong edge out) so that beginners can see where the piece actually goes and how it moves. (I watched over and over again with .25x play speed to fully understand)
Now I moved to CFOP but still sometimes watch this video. Now it just makes so much more sense than I watched first time!
Thanks, I eventually will make another 3x3 tutorial incorporating the feedback I received on this one, namely slowing down.
I will get some more practice and experience making tutorials doing the others (Megaminx, Pyraminx etc) then when I remake the 3x3 is should be better.
It was a lot more work than I anticipated and my time is limited so it’s difficult for me to make these.
Emily tried to make a Pyraminx tutorial but had to shoot several takes and the final one she said wasn’t worthy of editing so she’ll have to shoot it again. It just takes practice, experience, failure and time. Her time is even more limited than mine though.

I like his idea of showing us with the stickers removed for each step! I am thinking of purchasing a Lego one in which the colors are removable and mastering each step until the cube has no more blank spots.
Good idea, but don’t be afraid that you won’t get it solved. You will eventually and worst case scenario you can disassemble a regular cube and reassemble correctly. Many people have a fear of messing up or making mistakes but this short 1 minute video will dissuade that thought.

When I got my cube no algorithms were known yet, so it took me 7 hours to solve it. I still have it, it doesn't turn very fast though. It has blue opposite of white, yellow opposite of green.
This is the easiest tutorial than others....the others don't teach algorithms....thanks so much...I solved this in 1 min.....I bought my 3 by 3 yesterday to practice and now I can solve.....tysm

@@KTFG That move you do @26:54 after you say "Just flick them to the back" I could only see properly watching it 1 frame at the time. And what seemed like 1 move turned into 3 :) Isn't it what they do in NBA (and other games of course) after each match when they want to study their opponents moves? Watch in slo-mo and learn the techniques :)

At 25:53 I explain that we find two corners the same and we place them to the back. That is the important part and is done slowly. How I move them to the back or how quickly I moved them to the back the third time after showing the same move is irrelevant.
I make this more clear in future tutorials, you’re not supposed to follow my every movement especially when I’m repeating it fast after I’ve already taught how to do it and I’m just showing how quickly and easily it can be done once familiar.
But thank you for taking your time to explain to me your troubles because I will use that information in future tutorials.
Remember to treat it like a question on a test that you don’t know. Skip it and go on and usually the question will answer itself either through your “now” better understanding or by actually giving you the information in a different manner.

Recommended learning & practice schedule to learn the Rubik's Cube:
Day 1 - Layer 1 & 2
Day 2 - Refresh Day 1, Yellow Cross, Little Fish & Big Fish
Day 3 - Refresh Day 1 & 2, Double Fish & No Fish
Day 4 - Refresh and practice Days 1, 2 & 3
Day 5 - LL Fix Corners and Edges
*Note: it’s important to sleep between learning new things, it boots the information in the brain like saving a parameter with a reset.
Don’t try to learn too much in one day. It seldom matters how fast you learn something but rather how well you learn something
You have a twisted corner.
Twist all the yellows up or disassemble and reassemble correctly.

Problems with Layer 2?
At 11:45 I explain and demonstrate how to locate and insert an Edge into the Right side of Layer 2.
If your Edge needs to go to the Left side,
Just do the mirror of that from the Left side as seen at 14:58 . Orange touching Orange, Green away from Green (turn top CCW rather than CW) kick the Corner out and chase the Edge, pair up and re-insert.
Make sure to look at and understand the concept of connecting Corners and Edges, not just follow notation.
When filming I had an even number of solves from both sides (Left & Right) but when editing I accidentally got a disproportionate number of solves from the Right side.

Thanks for making this video. When I learned how to solve the 3x3 originally I learned it with F2L so I skipped over some of what is in this video. However, I needed this when I went to solve my mirror cube. I came across your video and "learned" the beginners method which I then used for my mirror cube. Thanks for making an easy to understand video. :)
