It’s always the same talk. “Boise State is too small.” Boise State can’t handle the big teams.” Blah blah blah. Boise State upset Oregon 3 times. They’ve upset Oklahoma, Georgia, Virginia Tech, TCU, Arizona…etc. Boise State thrives on entering games as the underdog. And most of the time, they win. Oregon will NOT pull away in this game. It will come down to the final possession. Boise’s offense is unbelievably stacked this year, and freaking Dirk Koetter is running the offense. Oregon fans should 100% be concerned about this game.
I think this is the year we finally break our Boise State curse, but I'm definitely worried about this game. I don't think Oregon is overrated, but I know how college football can be sometimes, winning football games sometimes comes down to just how the ball bounces, anything can happen and that's why I love the sport so much. Go Ducks!
If I were on the west coast, I'd treat you a really nice dinner if you are correct. Unlike in the past Oregon is not going to look past this game, or come in overconfidently. The Ducks are much more talented than they have ever been and Boise seems to be in a down year opposed to when they had a lot more talent during previous meetings. Still as Boise State fan you do an admirable job of supporting them and when the PAC12 was talking about first expanding, then surviving. BSU was at the top of my list as an addition.
I find it amazing that people always seem to be stuck in the past about previous matchup's. All the Ohio State people say the same thing. Don't doubt that Boise St. has had some big wins against Big10/Big12 teams. I remember seeing the (Fiesta Bowl?) against Oklahoma? That was a fist fight to the end in OT. But Oregon has had their share of success beating Michigan when Mariota was here, and a 3-Star QB named Anthony Brown against Ohio State 3 years ago. Oregon has a "W" against Purdue as well. But the past is past. Good luck this year in having success in the run game against Oregon's SEC type defense. This defense was built to compete against the Big 10's and SEC's of the world. I don't see Boise being able to establish the run. Passing game? Possibly. But what Boise State fans need to remember is this is not an Oregon team of the past. It's that "Big 10 Team Out West" and it will bite you in the rear-all the way to the playoffs.
Not a bad read about the Broncos. Boise State also brings in two intriguing transfers for WR: Chris Marshall and Cameron Camper, who have given the receiving corps depth, which was a weakness in the offense last year. About Madsen as a potential starter, you need to know that he overtook Taylen Green as the starter until his injury. The kid is a gamer, and so it's no sure thing that Nelson will be starting against the Ducks. And our running game is for real. We have a FB and TE who are proven blockers, and ran for 215 yards against UCLA's #2 rush defense (which had an easy time stacking the box against the Broncos due to us starting a true freshman QB who never took a snap in a game before). The Bronco offense will be more than a test for the Ducks. We also have the best kicker/punter duo in the country. Now, you are spot on about the weakness of the defense. We saw some improvement over the course of the season, but the Broncos had serious execution issues at times, which the Ducks should be able to exploit. The Broncos have a good set of CBs, but when we can't get pressure on the QB, or when our safeties take bites on play actions, we too often have seen wide open receivers torch the defense. Now, when it comes to playing smashmouth defense, against strong running teams, the Broncos more than hold their own. I suspect Oregon will use its speed, and should use its speed, to be the difference maker. The game may be closer than what a lot of Duck fans will expect, especially if Boise State can take care of the ball and sustain drives. No, I don't think Boise State will come out with a win by any means, but it may be a frustrating game for the Oregon fan who expects a cakewalk.
I agree with most of this. I think the defense will be improved drastically in the secondary and the WR room has more depth than what you stated. MM is a baller for sure. I can see either team winning this by no more than 10 points. Anyone thinking Oregon is going to do what they did to Liberty to the Broncos is in for a rude awakening.
Also, I've got this game going 38-31, with Oregon only pulling away in the 4th, and ultimately changing the narrative around the Ducks early in the season, similarly to Texas Tech last season.
@PorterStarrBryrd chip Kelly couldn't coach in the NFL, Dirk Koetter has more experience at a higher level, and we have the running back in college football
Yup. Just like Joel Klatt said a few weeks ago about Oregon going into Big10: (paraphrasing), "Oregon doesn't have to adapt to the Big10. The Big 10 has to adapt to Oregon". The D-Line alone will have people all in the 300 Lb. range. That's an SEC style D-Line. Courtesy of Dan Lannings recruiting prowess. One of the things Chip Kelly lacked when he was here. Making players go fast and score quickly? He could do that. Recruit players to win battle in the trenches? Apparently he didn't have time for that.
Dirk Koetter was Oregon's OC in 96-97. Great coach. Boise St has been a pain in our butt so we better be ready to play. If they beat us I could see them going undefeated.
When making these observations it is important to see how they performed against teams at which level. Boise's numbers were largely against non power five teams while Oregon went up against the best group of QB's the PAC12 has had in years. In this game I think the Ducks are probably going to want to, and be able to, have a balanced attack, not needing to HAVE to use either the run or the pass to get into the end zone. I look for about an even number of snaps in each until garbage time. If the Bronc's put up twenty against the starters Oregon is going to be stressed by B1G offenses. As far a scoring goes, the Ducks are going to want to look at a lot of players and see how they perform in live action, on both sides of the ball but particularly on O. If things go well three QBs should be running the offense, with perhaps a fourth mopping up. All of that depends upon the score, of course, and if BSU gets a couple of TD's late against the third string or short field drives after turnovers, that would make your prediction closer to actuality without scaring the defensive coaches
The ducks have lost to Boise St. Over and over, prior to this head coach at Oregon, changing their playing style completely... Especially on defense. This is no easy win!
Lifetime Oregon fan here and now a BSU fan. You all realize that they had a common opponent last year right? Go watch at least those 2 (or 3) games...there are 4 or 5 interesting take aways. Can anyone spot them?
Oregon having a Washington problem. Boise St is a pain in Oregon side . Oregon Ducks needs a 3TD win in this game. Now me been a Duck fan last year I picked Oregon to go 12-0 . 3 points away . This year 11-1 B1G CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP. On to Playing for National CHAMPIONSHIP 2025
I am a BSU fan and I have seen these predictions so many times. The BSU players always show up to the big games where they are expected to lose by a lot. Everytime BSU plays Oregon they claim they will get skunked and their players are far better, 5 star quality and yet they have never lost. Malakai from USC has to earn a spot just because he has the blue chip rating is no gaurantee that he will be chosen if fact the NFL coach Koetter said it will more likely be Madison starting.
Very tough game for Boise. If they can compete and make it look competitive, that wil be a win for them. Early competitive loss will not hurt their chances for a playoff spot.
Oregon probably wins, and needs to more than BSU, hopefully both stay healthy and go on to win their conferences, Positive this is going to be VERY physical.
@@jonathandavis1230 Oregon beat many teams by near that margin last year, and this years team is much better, so If they can't beat a group of 5 team that lost 6 games last year, by 30 or 40, then I would say they will go 11-2 again.
If Boise State’s secondary is the class of the MWC & they start out hot and not intimidated then this will be a good game. Oregon pulls away late and wins by a 10.

Hope the Duck players don't go into the game thinking like this. They need to put it all out until the game is in hand, then have reserves come in with the same attitude.
Honestly reading the news recently I think Malachi has like a 70% chance to start. I would be excited to see either they both deserve it and I believe Boise State has 2 of the top 5-7 Mountain West quarterbacks

Those games were a looooong time ago. Those upsets happened because of Chris Petersen.
@@thejfactor1 you’re right. I forgot that Chris Peterson was the only coach capable of pulling off upsets.

I believe Boise States corner back room is much improved over last year. But I do also expect Oregon to put lots of points on the board
Dirk Koetter is the best offensive coordinator the ducks will face.
He's the best offensive coordinator in all of college football
He was Oregon's OC in the 90s. He's had a long, great career.
Chip Kelly scares me a little more, especially with the best talent he will be working with at Ohio State. Dirk is a great talent developer.
