I've been using it for a few days now, and it works very well. I am very happy with what I use. Dolby atmos and 4k are great. Would like a vpn monitor that works with Android 14.
I played with it for 24 hours . Seemed responsive and installed customer launcher . Verified all my streaming services worked fine and good speeds via LAN Port . I boxed it back up and giving it to my son
Works great for me. Snappy speed for the most part, and compared to the Fire 4K Max stick I also just bought it's a TON better than what Amazon offers with the same processor in their stick.
No. I'm happy with mine, but please please will somebody make an expansion base for this! Greatly more useful with a USB hub with power pass through, but could be tidier. Loving how Kodi works on this thing, both with local files and files hosted on the desktop. Runs way cooler than my previous older Chromecast.
Have had mine since day one launch in the USA, it's been amazing. I have all variations of Chromecast since the very first one. I have been using the Chromecast HD on all 3 TV sets in my home. This is an upgrade and my home has various google home products so it works for me. It plays all of my movies in dolby atmos just fine, have yet to see it not put out the desired sound format. Sure things are cheaper, but getting the actual google product that will be given constant updates and maintain its platform is a big piece of mind for me. It just works better than the previous one, and android TV is in my opinion much better than anything roku or amazon puts out.
@@sardeegaming To answer honestly, I do wish it were a "better" device. I wish they would make something with the power of the Nvidia shield. But at the same time it would then cost a much higher premium, like the apple TV and Nvidia shield. I feel the price basically doubling, yet the performance not necessarily doubling as well, is a loss. Is it a good upgrade? To me, yes. But I am heavily invested in the Google ecosystem, I have multiple google home devices and even an google pixel phone. Price is something that can defiantly be controversial, is it worth it? yes. Is it worth $99 when something similar is half the price? Yes, because its a google made device. So you gotta weigh in where you stand with that. In the end it works, and it does what I want it to, and it will have google constantly supporting its platform with updates.
Can you get the spectrum TV app on this? We have been sticking with Roku for a long time, waiting/hoping the spectrum app would come to google eventually...is it available yet?
Brilliant video. Good thing I bought the first version on sale 2 Months ago for £30. Was thinking not to buy and wait for new one, then I thought will be no where near the launch price of first one and I was right so after seeing this video I'm even more happy.
From N. America. I'm fine with my Chromecast w/ google tv 4k. It works like a charm as long as you limit internal storage use and use an external storage device for all your apps.
Once you have a type c dongle and put usb in the internal storage doesn’t matter. And the 32 gigs is nice to have compared to what they had before and the fact you can add more storage pretty easily it wasn’t a problem. This system for what it is tho doesn’t seem like anything “next gen” like what I think people hoped for it’s basically the same device and they added more ram which makes it faster but the price ain’t justified in my opinion if someone already has the chromecast with google tv
Getting it for free after buying the P9P was my reasoning. Plus the old one was getting slow and my remote barely works sometimes with a new battery. Can't wait to receive it!
I have been disappointed with the 4K Streamer. I got it as I thought "4K, wired network, an upgrade to my old 1080p Chromecast with Google TV" I was so wrong. The thing is not very reliable. CEC doesn't work properly. A lot of apps that work on the old Chromecast dongle don't work on the Streamer. It has just been a huge disappointment. I have actually gone back to useing my old 1080p Chromecast with Google TV dongle and the streamer now sits in the cupboard idle. My Chromecast was the early 1080p version, but it just works properly where as the 4K Streamer is useless by comparison. I even like the remote better on the old device with the volume controls on the side instead of on the top. Specs and numbers mean nothing. Real world performance is a completely different thing
CEC is definitely broken, this is the first device in many years that I've connected to my TV and AV receiver which broke everything so badly I had to reset the TV inputs. What a PITA, and it is still not reliable - TV randomly drops the AV receiver audio when switching to the TV Streamer.
@TechDoctor UK, can you do a video on how different devices affect internet speed when using a VPN. I had a bunch of old firesticks and google devices lying around, and set some of them up for some friends. The speed test differences using Analiti whilst connected to SurfShark (using Wireguard) were alarming. Less powerful devices were surprisingly slow, e.g. the very latest Firestick 4K Max was about 5x faster than the white dongle Google TV with Chromecast. I always advise that people should use a good VPN like Surfshark, but I didn't realise the CPU power required to encrypt traffic would have such a big impact on the Analiti speed tests. My NVidia Shield is easily the fastest device I have when using a VPN. BTW - I'm using Surfshark due to it's unlimited connections feature, but it's also been much faster than things like PureVPN, and has a key feature for an Android TV device. It has the option to connect on startup.
I personally use IPvanish - www.techdoctoruk.com/tdukIPvanish it also has unlimited connections and supports autostart. As you've discovered, the device needs to encrypt the traffic before it sends it down the tunnel. So if your device is underpowered, overworked, low ram etc etc - all of that will impact your VPN speeds
Thanks Doc, so there is a work around for iplayer and channel 4. I also like the ability to change launcher. Personally I think it's way to expensive. Prime day is around the corner and it could find itself more expensive or the same price as the firecube.
I love my google streamer 4k...looks amazing in my entertainment system, and very snappy speeds...enable developer options, and shes shield fast...a little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion...2 thumbs up!👍
I'm happy with my 4k Chromecast, it is simple, all I did on it was watch UA-cam, Prime video and Crunchyroll, but sometimes the quality of video or loading wouldn't be up there sometimes, and I don't do "sometimes" in the middle of watching a good show then suddenly all gets blurry and the streaming apps has no options for video quality except UA-cam. So I remembered my PS5 literally has 8K and will suck as much signsl from the Ethernet cable as possible so I took my habits there instead. However I still love the controls easy light grip, ergonomic layout and touch. And this new version that us superior and comes with an Ethernet cable, would give this to friends that do not game but just watching a lot of tv and streaming services. 4k TVs are a lot cheaper these days, specially on Walmart... got me a 60" one for like 270bucks on april... i bet Black Friday everything will be an even bigger bargain.
