a lot of the newer players probably do not realize JUST how much of an impact this was, how utterly AMAZED and to some extent, scared, we were when we saw "Pokemon Trainer Red would like to battle". Think of it this way, in the 1st gen games, the elite four was the ultimate trainer challenge, after that, all that was left was mewtwo. that was it. so, when we hear about this cave, most of us did not think much of it, if anything we were wondering what cool legendary we would find at the end. NONE OF US, NO ONE realized we would find a single trainer in that god forsaken mountain, at the top of it, waiting. we saw him and were confused, wondering what he would say......then we saw one thing from him "..." and that battle started, the battle to end all battles. by that point, most of us had MAYBE pokemon in the 60s if that. to face against a team of high 70's and low 80's was terrifying and amazing. Not only that it was not jut ANY team, not just ANY trainer, it was US, the person WE WERE in the previous games and the three original starters plus pokemon most of us obtained in that game. heck, if it the game you palyed was yellow, that could very well be your team. there was NO HINTS, NO GUESSING, NOTHING That prepared us to fight our past selves, to fight against the ultimate trainer. When we heard this music for the first time, we knew....we knew we were facing a losing battle.
William B I never got the privlage to play the originals, but when I played Heart Gold and got to the top of Mount Silver and saw Red, I nearly shat myself
William B I never got the privlage to play the originals, but when I played Heart Gold and got to the top of Mount Silver and saw Red, I nearly shat myself
Lmao I remember thinking Red was a fisherman so I just talked to him without saving. I soon as I heard his theme, saw him tilt his hat and sent out a lv88 pikachu, I knew I was fucked. I then spent 1 month grinding to beat him.
@lolzzz You see ur not taking into account the hours he put in daily in the game. You know there were some parents back in the day when they would only let their kids play video games 1 hour or less a day or won't even let them play on school days.
@lolzzz Congratz being a smart a kid. My dumb 9 year old self took 7 tries to beat him. Want a prize for being one of the most intellectual gamer kid out there?
"There is a place, far from here, beyond the Indigo Plateau, beyond the civilization we humans have built, where only the most dangerous Pokemon roam, all but the strongest and bravest avoid it, and even some of them rarely return. Their wild and savage nature best all but the mightiest. But it is said that those who survive the journey will come face to face with a mountain, a mountain upon which the peak pierces the sky. A mountain that goes on for what seems like an eternity and at its summit, he waits. He waits for those worthy enough merely to face him. He waits for those who dare believe they are flawless, only to be taught how mistaken they have been. He humbles those who believe that just because they have bested the gyms, they are untouchable. He shows those who have attained the title of champion how empty that title is. His name is Red. And he does not lose." - Blue
I’ve always thought that the reason Red didn’t take a title like Champion or even Gym Leader was to prove a point. That he doesn’t need a title to kick your ass
ElFreakinCid Funny...That's how it is with everything in life. We are always fighting ourselves and we all are made of the same stuff, we are literally the same.
It's quite obvious. The only thing that distracts people from realizing so, is the complete identification with thinking and compulsive mind activity. You knew when you were a little child but society is an insane bitch that "educated" us into a quite destructive state of consciousness and seperation. It took me a lot of suffering and so called "sacrifice" to find myself again. ;)
Defeating Red is one of the greatest feelings in gaming so far, because you beat YOURSELF; you're now a stronger, better person than you were back then. Or maybe you hacked in Rare Candies, you n00bscrb. :)
I love how the whole atmosphere for the battle is set. First you go to Mt. Silver, a place filled with incredibly powerful wild Pokemon that only Trainers who have entered the Hall of Fame have access to, after getting the approval of perhaps the greatest Pokemon Professor of all time, Professor Oak. The climb up the mountain has no Trainers, again showing how restricted the area is, but also mirroring what your rival Silver said before your battle on Victory Road: "Noticed how there were no Trainers? They were all too weak for me". Then, at the peak of Mt. Silver, in the middle of a howling blizzard, one Trainer stands alone. You ascend to the summit, the metaphorical climax of your journey. The two strongest Pokemon Trainers of their generation meet on top of an uninhabited, empty mountain, while hail rages all around them. But none of that matters. All that matters is that they're both unrivalled and undefeated, and they know that well. There is a silent understanding between them. Without exchanging words, a battle begins. *_"You are challenged by PKMN Trainer Red!"_*
I’m trying to figure out which is the greater plot twist, discovering your rival beat you to the elite four and became the champion before you, or becoming the champion of both regions and discovering RED of all people on mount silver. Just so you know I played heart gold and soul silver as a kid, when I got to the top of mount silver I had no idea who red was, I never had played the originals or their remakes, but when I saw red the first time I knew something felt wrong, it might of been the hail, but I’m almost sure that it was mostly the fact that no other trainer was on that road and I remembered victory road. When your rival points out that there were no trainers along this road because they were all weak, unlike him. So I asked my brother who the guy was, showing him red on mount silver he just looked at me and said good luck and walked away, I promptly saved. And got my ass beat
Same here. I started with DPP and then went into SS/HGand I had a very vague idea of who Red was. I just knew he was an almost mythically powerful trainer, but that was because of fan stuff, so I promptly discarded it. After all, I hadn't lost up to that point, so how hard could it be? It felt like my first attempts at Cynthia all over again, and this time I even knew what I was doing.
@Amazing Spiderman Fan 2002 I see. I can't remember the team I used exactly. Haven't played those games in a while. Meeting the two in USUM was neat but comparatively easy.
Amazing Spiderman Fan 2002 19 I was like 8 at the time, so i took video games way too seriously, hence why I was scared of a character in a Nintendo game
I played the original Silver and faced Red. Good times. Kind of cool you can have the same experience while being a generation younger than me with the remakes.
@@set7618 sometimes i think about making an animation about red or gold/silver but i remember there already are animations better than anything i could do on the plataform, and i am bad at drawing
bro, hearing this brings me back to the hardest Pokémon battle in the entire franchise. MY GUY IT AINT EVEN A BATTLE, ITS JUST A WAR DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF TRIPS YOU’RE GONNA BE TAKING TO THE CENTER
Red is hard because he's crazy overleveled and has a 100% Blizzard Setup. Original Cynthia is hard because she has a competitive, IV perfect team with great type distribution. The Sinnoh REMAKE Cynthia is a threat to my brain cells, especially since the remade E4 aren't pushovers anymore, but rather borderline competitive monotype powerhouses of teams
"On a forgotten island in the Alola region, deep within a cave filled with terrifyingly powerful Pokemon, it is said that there is a trainer who has sought to become the strongest Pokemon trainer on the planet. After his defeat on Mt. Silver, he caught wind of the lifestyle of the Alola region and how their relationship with Pokemon has made their battle potential exceptionally powerful. There, he has achieved an enlightenment with his Pokemon and has been patiently training his team. I advise that you stay away from there, lest you rue the day you ever put yourself and your Pokemon through a fate worse than death. He doesn't lose." -Old Woman, Sun and Moon
When we were kids, most of us feared this guy. You expected something else waiting for you on the top of the mountain. The final challenge, all your battles, your gym badges, your Pokémon, it was all judged the moment you stepped foot at the peak. Most of us expected a legendary Pokémon or a ancient relic to reward us for our hard work. Instead, we met a legendary trainer. All our time of playing, all our hard work, judged by the true Pokémon Master. What a battle we all had with him, the very best that ever was, it was all defined in that battle.
I was a kid when i first fought him and i didn't go prepared with over levelled pokemon, boosting items or with strategy. He destroyed me, i was speechless, upset and frustrated but it was one of the best thrilling pokemon experience i ever had and training & trying to beat him was another great adventure. This trainer is a loved legend to all the OG pokemon players. Shout out to you all.
FireRam YT, canonically speaking, Gold did. He used a Suicune on his team. However, it wad never canonically revealed who truly won the battle of legend. We only have our opinions, sadly.
This is easily the best boss in the history of Pokémon. Just the fact that the final boss of Pokémon 2 is you from the previous game. Imagine if you were playing something like Final Fantasy X-2 and the final boss was Tidus. You truly fighting against yourself from long ago, and that is what’s really terrifying.
If memory serves me right, you literally have to talk to Red to fight him. It's not like other trainer battles. The stronger trainers are the ones you have to talk to in order to initiate the battle with. Red won't acknowledge you until you talk to him. Granted he stands at the top.
I dont think another game will ever pull off this feeling. Talking to red - literally fighting the previous mantle-bearer of protagonist, on the peak of the mountain? no dialogue, no changeup, no curveball, nothing but straight fucking gas.
Imagine the marriage oh goodness Do you take this man to be your husband? Wife: I do. Red, do you take this woman to be your wife? Red: ... *small nod gesture* Wife: oh god damn it red.
FORMIDABLE BEASTS I don’t think that wives or husbands are useless though, that’s a little mean don’t you think? I mean this is just my opinion you are free to think whatever you like.
This remix fits so well with the actual battle. 0:00 The player sees a figure in the distance 0:32 The player makes it out to be a trainer 0:53 He initiates the challenge 1:06 The grueling battle begins 3:04 After an exhausting match and many Full Restores and Max Revives later, the player knocks out Red's Pokémon. 3:15 The player realizes he still has 5 more to go.
And you obviously answered he's the main character of the first pokémon games from who Satoshi/Ash from anime is based on, as a good Pokémon connoisseur. Didn't you?
I remember it like it was yesterday... The time after he left I mean. Oh it was a national hysteria. No champion had ever simply abdicated his position, let alone doing it by wandering all alone into the ridge in the middle of the night. They say Green knew where he went, but he never let on, no matter how often he was questioned. Red must have made him promise silence. They must have spent a fortune... But after months of searching, it became clear that Red did not *want* to be found. Red always...had a way with Pokémon. Like he trusted them more than he trusted his fellow humans. Perhaps rightfully so...he had many admirers but very few friends. But... They say if you go deep into the Silver Mountains, far off in Johto, and listen into the wind, you can hear claps of thunder...and the cries of a roaring Charizard... ~ Samuel ‘The Pokémon professor' Oak, excerpt from Looker report, missing persons case no. 387625, Kanto Champion Red
Mr EpicTruth Oh my Lord Arceus, I saved this as a memo on my phone. Whenever I listen the last part of this song, I read this comment, because it goes so well with the tune. Its almost................ mysterious
I always read this during the opening part as it builds up. It's so true of Red too--even now, as a grown man, what friends does he have besides Blue? How much has he even said? And yet he has such a way with Pokemon, such a heavily autistic-leaning fascination and singleminded focus, that at just 15 or so, he was such a fearsome trainer that he was essentially unstoppable, until the day Ethan found him. And reading this over again makes me wonder, did he not want to be found and thus fight Ethan to drive him away, and is this why he fled after his defeat?
This remix is ahead of it's time. It made parts that isn't memorable becomes different and actually became memorable. Truly the best remix and there's probably no remix that can beat it currently
I remember saving right in front of this dude with my full lvl 60-65 team thinking I’m about to End this mans whole career.. 5 minutes later in the Pokémon center: Damn that Pikachu really swept me like that?
i honestly remember my first battle with red, it was a literal slugfest partially cuz my team at the time was all 69 (heh) to 75 that pikachu was a menace (keep in mind this is gold not heart gold (idk if gold had light ball or not) considering 2 of my pokemon were weak to that pikachu, but once that pikachu was gone (and alot of healing items) the slugging began and dear god to this day i cannot say i spent as long in a pokemon battle as i have on my first blind battle against red, which was around 30-40 mins, for the record i still lost, but man it was a satisfying loss that made me want revenge
Gens 1 and 2 would always be a classic and the fact that we can play these on a computer is amazing I love crystal and yellow I would still play soul silver if I had a ds but on desmume it's almost unplayable if you speed it up and sometimes the game freezes on desmume :(
Well it's like that because he is you kinda like the players he is meant to be the players that's why he is so quit and he went up the mountain to catch mew
People keep comparing Ash to Red here, and here is what I have to say about all this. Consider, for a moment, the possibility that Red and Ash are destined for different paths in life. Red was destined for greatness related to power, as well as fame. He knew almost instinctively what to do in order to get to greater heights quickly, like beating the gym leaders and defeating Team Rocket. He also happened to have the luck to not only accquire a Mega Stone and Key Stone in Kanto, but also to have a strong enough bond with his pokemon to have them activate and then catch Mewtwo on top of that. He got so incredibly famous, but the thing is that he has hardly any friends. So he feels as if he's lost his luster, and climbs Mt. Silver in an effort to grow stronger and feel worthy of all the attention he gets. This makes him become a legend himself after he eventually disappears completely, practically immortalized and looked up to by young trainers world-wide. Ash, on the other hand, is destined for greatness related to helping others, and friendship as well. Remember how Pikachu hated him at first? He had such a need to make Pikachu his friend, even though he could have traded Pikachu or asked the Professor to exchange him for a different pokemon when he got a new batch of starters. However, he didn't and Pikachu came around pretty quickly. Ash also has connections with legendary pokemon, not only through helping them but his very soul was also a key peice in at least one issue. (Lucario and he Mystery of Mew) His path, however, doesn't bring him fame. He's probably just not destined for it, seeing how he keeps losing fights by chance that would have made him very well known if he had won. He is still great though, just in a different way, and has a lot of friends. He doesn't need to be famous to be happy, even though a fantasy to become well known is what started his journey in the first place. He's pretty content with how he is now and his friends know hes a hero for helping so many people (not to mention saving the world multiple times). So even though Ash and Red are not the same kind of great, they do well in their respective areas. I feel like comparing them is like comparing a fish to a bird, and then getting angry when the fish cannot fly. They are not the same thing, Red is a legend and Ash is a hero, so of course they won't act the same.
Wow. Never looked at it like that. I can still bitch at the anime for literally only making 3 characters pretty much exactly what they are ingame, right? With those 3 being N, Colress, and Ghetsis, of course.
I can picture it already: The beginning of the song you walk nervously towards the steps and the trumpets begin as you slowly look up to see who the esteemed champion of the Alola region is. The one who defeated the currently undefeated elite four in one swoop, they alone know what he looks like. As the trumpets reach their maximum he slowly turns around and looks down towards you. The legendary trainer Red stares deep into you with his soulless eyes. You gasp in fear and back away contemplating running. However your eyebrows furrow and you lock eyes with him. The beat drops as he throws his first Pokemon. The ultimate battle has begun
To everyone who wrote all those epic comments: thank you for taking me down memory lane! Truly an amazing flashback to remember when we battled Red all those years ago. 👌
It truly was an unexplainable experience back then. I remember laying in bed with my color and snake light and meeting this man for the second time. The music kicked in and forever became a wonderful memory. Also catching that larvitar outside the cave which became a god that solo'd the rest of the game
Umm . . *NO* , there is no "He allows you to lose in his presence",no. For red, you don't lose, you DIE, there is no "winning" there is no "victory", you just got beaten the CHAMPION, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't just let you go, no, he didn't beat you, he SLAUGHTERED you, Because that's "RED", and that's who he'll always be, just like who you were once.
Red > any other trainer period. Literally the only character in the series to complete the Kanto Pokedex, beat the champion of his region (Blue), defeat the entirety of Team Rocket & Giovanni, captured even Mewtwo along with the legendary birds, got all starters and evolved them fully and became lost in his own despair after finding out that he had not truly become a master when he found out there were more than 151 Pokemon. Dude is a legend
I actually think Red got all 16 badges and beat all the Johto Gym Leaders. He may have even completed the Johto Pokedex. He was on Mt. Silver after all.
@Hedrick Melvin Yeah, he had to be or else how would GameFreak allow such a broken character. If we were to go by canon timeline, Red has been training for years to perfect his team. His pokemon should already be level 100s, and they should well have broken their parameters if we were going by game logic. Red himself is akin to Missingno. because of how the concept of his character became synonymous to Danger. If we went through Manga Satoshi/Red he gets even crazier since he has been through much more but his pokemon within the manga are moderately balanced. So, we are all glad he has been nerfed because if he wasn't, it would probably be near impossible to triumph against his team.
Red: - Completed the Kanto Pokedex (caught all 151 Pokemon, EVEN MEWTWO) - Defeated the Elite Four and the Champion, Blue - Defeated Team Rocket and their Boss Did it all in under 4 episodes Ash: - Completed .05 of the Kanto Pokedex - Barely defeated Agatha or Lorelei (Prima in the anime) - Got half of his badges handed to him - Can't even get rid of Team Rocket's lowest ranked members And it is still taking him 6 generation of Pokemon to even beat a Pokemon League pfftt, Red will always be king.
+Achilleas Economou The player beats red* which the creators of pokemon have stated since it was his ghost, it had 10% of his pokemons skills and power. so imagine.
There you are in your younger years, playing through red/blue, having a good time, literally farming the elite 4 + blue, seeing your pokemon grow.. lvl 50.. 60.. 70.. till you get bored and let the game catch dust in the corner of your room. Years later, gold/silver releases, you have grown up a bit, start playing the game, get familiar with it again, eventually you find out you can travel back to kanto. You are curious about what has changed over the years. You face everyone you faced before, it is like the aftermath you left behind in the previous play through. There is a mention here and there about a strong trainer, but you did not really care since you are strong. Feeling powerful and unstoppable, you did not feel like farming any league since the previous game taught you noone and nothing will be as strong as you. You start climbing Mt. Silver, knowing this is the last thing on the to-do list. Little did you know the character hibernating in the corner of the room, was about to take his long last revenge on you... You climb the last stairs and there he was.. you recognize the sprite, it had been burned into your eyes.. You jump up, start searching in the corner for the dusted game. It did not take long to find it. You hold the game in your hands and said: "I am sorry I left you to rot..." You knew you were about to be farmed the way you used to farm the Pokemon League when all he had to say to you was ". . ."
This remix is over 10 years old and after listening to huge ammount of pokemon remixes over that time, i have to say that it's still one of THE BEST pokemon remixes ever created. Say what you want, i won't change my mind.
Im glad that sometimes Red is a returning character in the Pokemon series. Just to remind us that even the classics are still the best. Yes Lance was pretty cool, Steven was a beast, and Cynthia made us all prey for mercy, but Red...he taught you a very important lesson. Its the quiet one...that will always be the strongest. Why? Because he doesnt need to talk to show you how strong he is. Hell just show it...and Mew and Arceus have mercy on you when he is done.
8 years later and this is still a gem. It may be old and could possibly be improved upon, but after so much time it still gets you pumped up and kicking, the intro, the drop and everything about it just screams epicness. And that's why i think no other remix tops this one.
Now that ash has finally won a League I know how i want the series to end Ash is sitting in his new champions chair, with Pikachu by his side, as he looks back on all the memories battles and friends he has experience along the way Suddenly the doors open, there is a brief bout of silence. *And then this theme hits*
Red comes in, defeats Ash very badly and then just disappears. Ash realizes that he has just lost to the ultimate Pokemon Master. So Ash and Pikachu leave on a new journey. To find Red and beat him and become the ultimate Pokemon Master.
This was the most epic battle I've ever had in video game history, hands down. All the bosses in the Dark Souls series _combined_ had nothing on this guy.
it because when youre playing pokemon its a mind game. you read your opponent like a game of poker (in online play you read your oppenents moves/patterns) but with Red hes a blank slate with super high level pokemon (from an NPC) as a kid there was NO way to read him AND he has the starters you really wanted
Diego Bendo Combining the brute power of Red (Powerful moves: Blizzard, Fire Blast, Leaf Storm, Volt Tackle, Focus Blast)with Cynthia's strategy (Super good AI, balanced team)... Not even the League would stop him. One would need the Infinity Stones, 6 Legendaries and an army to stop him... But one wouldn't.
***** na i don't really know it myself but i heard mr RED has beaten the top lige 2 times and got the name best pkmn trainer in the games series ... in the 1.st and 2nd game of pokemon.
jeahr ok if you self kill him and so on, then it's true but finally, if you play the 3rd generation you will not encounter gold as a pkmn trainer like RED :-) If you seem it that way, then RED is the better pkmn trainer because he got two times the name of best pkmn trainer and gold only 1 time :-) but i know what you mean, and i have to say that i agree with this statement ^^
Red had the most balanced Pokemon team out of all the trainers you can encounter in any of the games. That's what made him so tough to beat! In Gold and Silver yeah you had to collect 16 gym badges and all but you could prepare for a type advantage. Red was hard to prepare for.
You know, this just occurred to me, but... thank GOD Mega evolution wasn't around during Red's time. He was terrifying enough without a freakin' mega charizard backing him up.
+Photanic I dont think he would have needed one, I mean, he's old school. These mega evolutions are just unfair ways to OP your opponent, but the Red we were when we played P Red/Blue only had our most basic Pokemon to use, no IV egg breeding, not a ton of ridicolously OP legendaries and no mega evolutions. It was just all about being a good tactician, I mean it´s still about that but now there's just so much added stuff that the battles themselves take up so little space in what a true Pokemon master is.
gold really won the battle in order to prove that red was wrong about leaving everything and staying with his pokemon, he reminded red of his home and a new and better start
Me and my best friend didnt play the original game that far and we were really confused about how "Red" was so we could get the starters from Professor Oak in HGSS. But when we went to Mt.Silver.... holy fuck man. We never saw levels that high in a trainer battle. We were like, 10, and this fucker wiped the floor with us. It was like experiencing a cryptid
Game came out in Japan in 1996. Came out in the U.S. in 1998. Red entered the hall of fame in 1996. It's why his adult form from sun/moon is wearing a shirt with the number 96 on it.
@@chris31795 Pokémon Gold and Silver are the games in which this interaction appears. These games were released on November 21, 1999 for the Nintendo Gameboy color. That's why I have that date.
I love how Red was just terrifyingly epic when we battled him on Mt. Silver. Now we just fight him for the sake of fanservice and the worst thing? He's been reduced to such an easy challenge.
What made that battle so effective too was that just a couple of years prior, we had all been him. We were essentially fighting ourselves, and had no idea it was coming, because back then there was no quick googling it to see what's at the top of that mountain.
Sad, but true. The games are WAY too easy these days. They're not bad (Except gen 6, and even then, there are things about gen 6 that I really like, mega evolution for example), but they're inexcusably easy.
As the climb up Mt. Silver begins to become more treacherous, you feel as if you are about to give in and want to climb back down. However, you feel that you would be letting your best Pokemon down, so you keep persevering. As you begin to get closer to the summit, you begin to feel this strange aura. You can't explain it, but you keep pressing on. As you keep pushing up toward the summit, the aura gets stronger. You are curious to see what this peculiar aura is and its cause. As you step outside the final cave, you are at last at the summit of Mt. Silver. The snow and wind hitting your face makes you begin to shiver, however, the sense of the aura is stronger than ever. You feel that this aura is caused by a presence near you. As the blizzard above clears somewhat, you see somebody standing at the very top of Mt. Silver. You walk toward this figure, and the aura strengthens to a point where you feel that your heart begins to start racing. The figure turns around to look straight at you. The blood in your body begins to boil, as you and this figure lock eyes for the first time ever. You walk closer toward this figure, ready for whatever challenge comes your way. You start to feel the aura in you. The figure that you are walking toward looks at you and moves his hand toward the bill of his red cap. The figure recognizes your strength, your will, your resilience. He sees you as a powerful Pokemon trainer, as no other trainer has climbed to the summit of Mt. Silver before. You are now standing at the top of Mt. Silver with the figure. You grab a Poke Ball from your bag, and face the figure. The figure grabs a Poke Ball from his bag, and that's when you realize you are about to fight the greatest Pokemon trainer to ever live. Both of you defeated Team Rocket single-handedly. Both of you were once Champions of the Indigo League. Both of you had overcome all odds, making an embarrassment out of your main rival and leaving them quivering in their shoes. You stand atop Mt. Silver, knowing that you and the figure are the strongest trainers ever. The figure thinks the same, and throws out his first Pokemon. Pokemon Trainer Red wants to battle.
THIS. IS. THE. MOST. VIEWED. POKeMON. MUSIC. VIDEO. TILL. DATE. AND IS THE REMIX OF MY FAVORITE BATTLE THEME IN THE ENTIRE SERIES OF POKeMON GAMES! Long Live Pokemon Long Live Johto Long Live Red.
mine was: hey its ash when i learned about Red, i forgot about Ash (mr lucky, who only wins with luck) and before i knew the story about Red, i thought pokemon trainers like that sucked, but Red made me see a whole new life in pokemon :D and this music makes him sound unbeatable
Lol, I remember saving before I fought him in Crystal, then I just listened to the music for an hour or so. The battle theme in HG/SS is cool, but it doesn't have that nostalgic theme from the original. :D
This will be one of the best memories I have from my childhood. Making it to the top of Mt Silver having no idea what is at the end. Just to see a trainer standing there... Being in complete shock but knowing exactly who it was..... Being so happy yet so anxious. "..........." PKMN Trainer Red wants to battle!
How to properly fight Red: 1. Get equivalent leveled Pokémon. 2. Get opposite types. 3. Turn down game music. 4. Put this on a 1 hour version. 5. LET THE DUEL OF FATES BEGIN!
Not necessarily equal levels. I beat Red for the first time with heavily underleveled Pokemons - ca lvl 52. I only had problem with Espeon and it's Psychic move which one-shot all my party at my first attempt.
Tyranitar trivializes this fight It's kinda a shame because even though Red has the highest level Pokemon of any trainer to date in his Pikachu, it's still, well, a Pikachu. One Earthquake will nearly always be enough to one shot it, and Stone Edge erases Charizard and Lapras. It can even learn Fire Punch for Venusaur and then Snorlax is just kinda... there. Same with Blastoise. But even by then you're almost guaranteed to have a counter to water.
I still remember being confused as to why a trainer was at the top of a mountain as a kid. And when I saw the battle begin I was so shocked that it was the trainer from the previous game. This is truly the peak of epicness in Pokemon.
You climbed the stairs of the new pokemon league, you have beaten all the island guardians and it's ultra beasts and totems. You rose to the top of anyone else in the alola region but you're about to get one hell of a wake up call... Because guess who's back?
Red: Sends out level 80 Pokémon.
12 year old me: I'm gonna die
Confirm
I went with a Pokémon lvl 51
...
The moment u realise u just became trainer like a week ago and your facing a legend
Guess I'll die
i went up that mountain expecting a legendary pokemon.
i found a legendary trainer instead.

The most real conversation before a Pokémon battle ever. No words. Just emotion.

a lot of the newer players probably do not realize JUST how much of an impact this was, how utterly AMAZED and to some extent, scared, we were when we saw "Pokemon Trainer Red would like to battle".
This needs more likes immediatly

Same. I immediately gained respect for Red the moment I saw the Pokeball made out of bricks appear. I knew he wasn't any ordinary trainer.
Lmao I remember thinking Red was a fisherman so I just talked to him without saving.
I soon as I heard his theme, saw him tilt his hat and sent out a lv88 pikachu, I knew I was fucked. I then spent 1 month grinding to beat him.
As the most Wiseman in pokémon well tell you played your self as you changed RED

@lolzzz that's not really a "battle". You were overly prepared, maybe even anticipating
And he does not lose."

I love the idea behind batteling Red. Cus we made him strong, we rose him. Its like fighting a superior thing. And that superior thing is you...
That's why I loved fighting him too, and why I love that he doesn't say a word to you. He's all of us at once and we're fighting ourselves.
ElFreakinCid Funny...That's how it is with everything in life. We are always fighting ourselves and we all are made of the same stuff, we are literally the same.
Free Dom That's deep, man
It's quite obvious.
I love what makes this battle better is that (I think) both the anime and the books say the battle never actually finished, only started

Oh my days...
I wet myself from that horror story T_T

Reading this literally sent a chill down my spine. Could not have said it any better myself.

And reading this over again makes me wonder, did he not want to be found and thus fight Ethan to drive him away, and is this why he fled after his defeat?
this is good

(Lucario and he Mystery of Mew)
His path, however, doesn't bring him fame.
+Jack Rizzuti True dat.

The legendary trainer Red stares deep into you with his soulless eyes. You gasp in fear and back away contemplating running. However your eyebrows furrow and you lock eyes with him. The beat drops as he throws his first Pokemon. The ultimate battle has begun

Ash:
- Completed .05 of the Kanto Pokedex
- Barely defeated Agatha or Lorelei (Prima in the anime)
- Got half of his badges handed to him
- Can't even get rid of Team Rocket's lowest ranked members
And it is still taking him 6 generation of Pokemon to even beat a Pokemon League
pfftt, Red will always be king.
+The FrostyPuffMan gold though is better coz you beat him in the end of gold and silver
+Achilleas Economou that's is right YOU beat him not red, in the manga it is also not shown gold beating red.
+Achilleas Economou The player beats red* which the creators of pokemon have stated since it was his ghost, it had 10% of his pokemons skills and power. so imagine.
+Achilleas Economou *Cough*Blue*Cough*
I agree.
You hold the game in your hands and said: "I am sorry I left you to rot..." You knew you were about to be farmed the way you used to farm the Pokemon League when all he had to say to you was ". . ."

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

it because when youre playing pokemon its a mind game. you read your opponent like a game of poker (in online play you read your oppenents moves/patterns) but with Red hes a blank slate with super high level pokemon (from an NPC) as a kid there was NO way to read him AND he has the starters you really wanted

na i don't really know it myself but i heard mr RED has beaten the top lige 2 times and got the name best pkmn trainer in the games series ... in the 1.st and 2nd game of pokemon.
jeahr ok if you self kill him and so on, then it's true but finally, if you play the 3rd generation you will not encounter gold as a pkmn trainer like RED :-) If you seem it that way, then RED is the better pkmn trainer because he got two times the name of best pkmn trainer and gold only 1 time :-) but i know what you mean, and i have to say that i agree with this statement ^^
***** Indeed.
Red had the most balanced Pokemon team out of all the trainers you can encounter in any of the games. That's what made him so tough to beat! In Gold and Silver yeah you had to collect 16 gym badges and all but you could prepare for a type advantage. Red was hard to prepare for.
^What Captainlol said.

Red is the real God of all Pokémons here.

latorquemada then explain why you (arceus) can be caught by master ball?

Arceus: uh well that's just how it is!
Sendy Lie red could be caught in a poke ball the fook u talkin about
You know, this just occurred to me, but... thank GOD Mega evolution wasn't around during Red's time.
Ahri man
Which is why, if he DID have mega evolutions, I'd give up halfway through. Because there's no kill like overkill
+Photanic He had in Origins
I was more talking about the Red we face in Gold & Silver.
+Photanic he has Zard x in origins one of the best megas of ou meta
gold really won the battle in order to prove that red was wrong about leaving everything and staying with his pokemon, he reminded red of his home and a new and better start

Trainer Red was never able to get Mew because it's the 151st pokemon. Pokemon Red only goes up to 150.
He went there to find mew but found more pokemon instead
151st
Mew is technically in the game.
Of course that probably doesn't matter because one of Red's teams literally has an Espeon which is specifically gen 2, so who knows what else he got.
Imagine if Red replaced espeon with Mewtwo lol
I love how Red was just terrifyingly epic when we battled him on Mt. Silver. Now we just fight him for the sake of fanservice and the worst thing? He's been reduced to such an easy challenge.
Nocturnal I know right? Laughably easy in usum. Grab a mudsdale, and you win. So pathetic
A guy actually beat him with all level 5 Pokemon
What made that battle so effective too was that just a couple of years prior, we had all been him. We were essentially fighting ourselves, and had no idea it was coming, because back then there was no quick googling it to see what's at the top of that mountain.
Red was a challenge?
Sad, but true. The games are WAY too easy these days. They're not bad (Except gen 6, and even then, there are things about gen 6 that I really like, mega evolution for example), but they're inexcusably easy.
"The biggest fight in life is against yourself."
many years later and to me this is still one of the most iconic remixes for Red

How to properly fight Red:
But remember...
You don't win Red, YOU SURVIVE RED!!!
That's true. :)
As a noob i had to cheat my way through, i bought soul silver as my first game and found that
Tyranitar trivializes this fight
It's kinda a shame because even though Red has the highest level Pokemon of any trainer to date in his Pikachu, it's still, well, a Pikachu.
10 years and this is still the best version of his theme, and the best pokemon remix on the internet.
