I just came into owning a 2001 100 series LC, with 'only' 160k on the odometer. It was the only truck I could find in the whole state of Georgia that didn't have upwards of 275k miles, so I snatched it as quickly as I could. "Here dealer, take my money". I used to own a '02 LR Discovery II, and as charming and capable as that rig is, I like knowing I can beat on my Toyota without it crying and popping a T-case gear. (or leaving me stranded on a mountain, still sore about that one) Great review. As mentioned here in the comments, the value of a $90k Land Cruiser is only realized 25 years down the road when you've been driving the same vehicle day in day out and she still runs like a champ.
98-99 had lockers on 100 series, a 97 is a 80 series. Another interesting tidbit on the 100 is the hydraulic suspension goes up 50mm in high mode, everyone knows that part, but it also goes up an additional 20mm in low range after sensing slippage. Read that in the manual.
I've owned most of the various generations of Land cruisers, and the 200 series is by far my favorite for an everyday driver while still being very off-road capable. Apart from that, at the top of my list are the legendary 80 series and I've always loved the iron pig. Great video by the way, very well put together
I live in the north west and let me tell you LC 100 is impossible to find under $10k and if you find one it will be above 300k mileage. If you were too picky and start looking for year 2006-2007 you are going to pay above $20k so there you guys this is the reality talk. If you only paid $5k for that 2000, consider yourself extremely lucky 🍀
Yeah prices have always been higher on resale than other models but they've gotten plain stupid in the last year... I've had my 2013 LC for 3 years and blue book is worth MORE now with an extra 3 years and 40k miles more than when I got it 😂
I just looked at j200 with under 200k 2008 and this LC was completely killed. Rusted all the way, underpowered and we finished test drive with smoke coming inside from engine compartment. We have another one of the same year and absolutely happy with it. You do not always know what are you getting when you getting used one.
It’s hard to determine that a new 200 series is worth 91 grand in a video like this. You need to come back in 25 years when it’s still running great and still super reliable and then you can determine that it was worth 91 grand.
Haha well it's worth $91k to only allow 1500 people per year... The Lexus version sells for more than that but sells about 3x that per year in the US. I've got a 2013 LC that I got for less than $40k with 110k miles and it's been 100% worth what I paid - like you said, the thing just runs and never has issues.
I have both. Both white….Love the 200 series but I will never give up my 100 series. It’s been with us for 21 years with 345,000…..got us from LA to SF 1000 times Vegas …and many Military Bases it saved our lives twice. And I believe the 100 series is on the cusp of going way up in value. Selling it would be the equivalent of putting my Dog down in perfect health just because he’s old. Would never do it.
I just bought a 100 here ‘ down under’ for 18k. More comfortable than my old 80 but, my 80(paid 7k)went everywhere, did everything, she was not scared of anything. Driver ability beats car ability any day. Could my 100 do what the 80 did. I doubt it, but time will tell.
That is what I am talking about! Nice cars, awesome landscape and charming as always Kyle and rest of the team! I am excited to see what you are going to do with the Rivian. I hope to see some overlanding adventures.
Great video!!! You referenced a $13 blue tooth adapter for the 100 series. Can you share the product specifics? Does it allow you to play music through the speakers? I’m looking to do the same on an 06’ LX470 that only had phone BT capabilities. Thank you!
Nice video. But both cars are capable to do way more offroad. At least , Get some proper AT or MT tires. With proper tires you won’t come very far without serious damage. I’ve had a 90 series, now a 2004 100 series and a 105 diesel. The 100 is a super daily driver and nice for overlandings. The 105 is just a rock machine for real heavy offroad trails and rock climbing. Love them both but if I had to choose: the 100 series is the best compromise.
Listen to your Land Cruiser! When it shows you cast iron evidence of man made climate change, you had better believe it. I love my 22 year old LC 100 Amazon . It does everything that I need it to without the bells and whistles of the LC200. Also, IMHO it also better in the looks department than it’s younger sibling.
I think you should leave the price out of the ? We all know that when new the 100 series LC was not $4500. My 03 LX470 was above 70K new , 20+ year later prices gone up. I think the 200 series is a much finer tune 100's but if I where to pick it's more about style, I prefer the 100's body style over the 200's.
‘05 and up 100-series landcruisers came with a revised version of the 4.7 with VVT-i that made about 278HP and came with a 5-speed transmission that replaced the 4-speed they had before. They are the ones to go for. Would have been a more fair comparison to put that model against a 200. It still doesn’t make them fast cars but that extra almost 50HP and one extra gear does make a big difference, both on road and off it. Regarding the diff locks, that’s a strictly US problem. In other parts of the world such as Europe, Middle East and Australia, 100-series were offered with diff locks and other features such as auxiliary fuel tanks and dual batteries. Oh yea...and V8 diesel engines. Also what you said about the 200 series effectively having 16 gears with the low range engaged is not true. You are speed limited while using low range so generally the box won’t shift when in low range. It’s just an extra reduction gear for ultra low speed operations requiring all the torque the engine has. You’re confusing it with the kind of transmission that 18 wheeler tucks have but that’s a whole different kind of application.
Nice video! I enjoyed it. I have a 2018 4Runner TRD Pro (Cav Blue) that I've taken out on the dirt...would love to see how much more/less I'd get with a 200 series LC Heritage. I'm tempted to get one just because it's the last year in No America.
Damn my '01 just hit 107,000 miles so I guess by 2042 if will finally be broken in !! Losing the running boards on any truck usually makes it look higher up. That's typically the first mod I do. I think I'm going to get me a 200 if I can find one that fits my criteria. A 4-5 year old with 50K or less would be about perfect. CarMax actually has one like that right now but I'm not ready to buy anything quite yet. Nice review btw !!
I got a 2013 that I paid $37 for a couple years ago before the prices went nuts, had 100k miles on it but was like new... Best vehicle I've ever had and I've owned everything from F150 Platinum to Wrangler and Broncos..
I would choose the 100 every time. Not only because I don't have $90,000. But with a few decent mods, you can turn it into a trail weapon. and you wont be scared to actually take it down the trail. It's only $5000. That's alot of car for the money
Probably not cool to be sharing someone's personal property, especially their "fallout" setup. Especially knowing that private property, therefore your trespassing. Just saying.
Nice. Indeed you can't go wrong. And with some AT tires on the 200 (like KO2's, etc.) you likely could have gone up that bank in 4HI. Beautiful machines. Bummer to see the fire damage!
I like how the girl rides in the new expensive car. Somethings never change.

WELL SAID! Still own your LC?

Are there 4.2 turbo diesel in the US? And if there are, how much are they?
@@dreamschaser8022 no diesel engine in the US.
This is awesome. I just got a 98 LC for 4000 and can't wait to get it out on some trails
I just looked at j200 with under 200k 2008 and this LC was completely killed. Rusted all the way, underpowered and we finished test drive with smoke coming inside from engine compartment. You guys in the USA are very lucky, $4900 for an LC100!? In my country the price of this truck is north of $20k
There's no way you can find one at that price right now. He got really lucky and that 100 series doesn't really have the cleanest body...
It’s hard to determine that a new 200 series is worth 91 grand in a video like this. You need to come back in 25 years when it’s still running great and still super reliable and then you can determine that it was worth 91 grand.
That's due to inflation if you were you purchase a brand new land cruiser 100 series today it would just as expensive as the 200 series.

I wan't the 06 or 07 LX 470. Love the old style and quality.
If you want the sweet spot for atrak, keep it between 1500-2000rpm
I have both. Both white….Love the 200 series but I will never give up my 100 series. 11:06 KDSS was developed in Australia

People often make the mistake with A-Trac by not giving it enough throttle. Give it 75% throttle and let it think through it!
This is incorrect. That's a good way of overheating it. You want power to be around 2-3k RPM.
Thats the difference between an allready dented $4,500.00 100 series, and a clean $90,000.00 200 series. The risk, reward, and choice of trail!
That is what I am talking about! Nice cars, awesome landscape and charming as always Kyle and rest of the team!

I have a 2013 200 series and love it! Excited to take it on similar adventures - cant beat the capability + comfort.
what do you think of its fuel economy?
@@timwynn6079 its terrible but you dont buy these for the fuel economy
Nice.... I've got a black 2013 and just hit 150k miles.. thing is a beast.
I have AHC in my Land Cruiser 200, a lot more ground clearance. It seems like you don’t have that version.

my 06 prado has both ctr diff and low range, but ony 2.7lt, i should take it off road sometimes
1998 and 1999 had Rear locker
Im a owner of 1999 LC 100
I have a 2005 lc100 with rear locker (gcc specs)
I want the old one. How hard did you look it over before purchase ?
We had 2012 land cruiser with 87000 kilometres, and then have the 2021 brand new land cruiser , both drive the same the new and the old one.
I think you should leave the price out of the ? We all know that when new the 100 series LC was not $4500. My 03 LX470 was above 70K new , 20+ year later prices gone up. Now build the old 100 series with lockers, rock rails, bumpers and a winch with an OME lift with 35" tires.
uzj100 has 320 ft lbs of torque. 100 series started in 1998. ;
How to know my 2002 LC100 has A-Trak and is working?
Good lesson on how hot a fire gets and even inside that mostly buried container it still destroys contents.
Why didnt you show the inside of the connex?
I think 100's had 230hp until 2003, then a 5hp bump, until '06-'07 had 275hp.
‘05 and up 100-series landcruisers came with a revised version of the 4.7 with VVT-i that made about 278HP and came with a 5-speed transmission that replaced the 4-speed they had before. 06 and 07 had the vvti hence why they're the most desirable. The 5 speed got introduced in 03 along with a refreshed interior.

Shit dude I’m at 311K in my 2000 and still running strong as ever. Yours will outlive you at that rate hahaha!

Thank you from Magadan
Land Cruisers are awesome but...85K is just ridiculous
4900 for that cruiser was a steal!
mans out here with highway tread tires on the 100 doing it a disservice.
Jesus Christ how did you find that thing for 4,900?
105 series is the best
79 series is the best, but no luck getting that in the US
I needed to watch this video so I no longer lust for a 200-series. 😂 I'll keep the hundy.
Yo! My name is Liam too and I drive a silver '99 100 series. That's crazy
Good Job Guys! Love the Both Land Cruisers
Once again: doing my part with linking and subscribing, and one again: I call dips for the first stay :D
I would love to know how you found one of these for 4900. I would run to my bank without hesitation
It’d be cool if they actually took them Offroad!
They're just having fun with their daily drivers man. Not trying to break something for a little video. But yeah I wouldn't call this off-roading.
Be good if either person knew how to drive off road and knew how to use the off road setting on both vehicles
No front and rear lockers. I'll stick to my Rubicon for off-road. For overlanding Land cruiser is ok. 20 years old for $4500 good deal.
Probably not cool to be sharing someone's personal property, especially their "fallout" setup. Especially knowing that private property, therefore your trespassing. Just saying.

I'm the fan of 100 series with diesel ⛽
These trails are not as tricky as my driveway
Wow 4,900$ ???? 2000 LC100 with 200k+ miles is like 9k now lol
no need technology with this car this technology more than enough people buy these car for real off road and for real reliability
TOYOTA LANDCRUISER ❤👍🏻
Y’all should have better tires 🛞
Obviously not a good bug out shelter. That is a lot of money burned up.
beautiful car
220K that is NEW.
I own a 2005 with 289k now. When you dipped into the side of the road I thought DONE!
You outside Boulder or near FtC?
That may be the best and worst justification for a Land Cruiser ever.
Not really fan of the look of the 200’s.

buy a nice daily and have the old landcruiser for a weekend warrior.....
They do have mechanical differentials 😅
200 after 200 000 miles will be not even NEAR to 100. Don't lie to yourself 200 owners...
That girl looks totally disinterested :-)
Girls dont have that offroad, exploring the unknown feelings in them. Boys who are true men love suvs and offroad. Gurls on average do not.
Terrible music...
