"I'm using 80s propoganda to brainwash my children". Love you Mike. Gotta raise some freedom loving, trouble making, inovating explorers that can think for themselves!❤
I picked up a Lexus GX 470 a couple months ago, it's basically a baby Land Cruiser. It has the same 4.7L engine. Slowly setting it up for overlanding. I'm loving it so far.
I'm a fellow LC100 owner, too. Yours is a bit more done up than mine, but very similar. I also had a weird head gasket failure, but nothing was damaged. I rebuilt the full top end and refreshed the suspension. I got the same Dobinson kit with maybe different rear springs. It's a night and day difference! I'm looking forward to seeing yours again soon!
Hey, Also a 2006 LC owner. Just wanted to give you a heads up that I got the T'Eyes infotainment screen amd I've loved it. I did get the "buzz" noise, but I was able to get rid of it with a simple amplifier off of Amazon. Best $600 I've spent on the LC. I now have hands free carplay, Crisp 4k back up camera, and a ton of different apps, as well as a mint sound system.
My 99 has a regular double din stereo with carplay. But also has an annoying buzzing sound. The previous owner installed it. Wonder if it's that same amplifier problem. I assumed it was just some shotty wiring. What kind of amplifier did you install?
My aftermarket tesla style works great in my 2002 series 100 cruiser. I love it. Makes the Land Cruiser experience even better. I’ll send you a video next time I’m by the cruiser
Beginning of last month we drove our 100 series from Calgary Canada all the way to South Texas for a wedding and took a tour of the "fly over" states on the way back ( managed to do a ton of sight seeing on the way and make a ton of memories ) the trip totalled about 7000 miles through almost a dozen states and two international borders. Came back, bought a new fridge, and hauled that full sized fridge home in it. Then last week we took it to IKEA and bought my daughter a whole new bedroom set and bunk bed with study desk, it all fit no problem. My poor GMC 2500 pick up just sits around collecting dust, seriously considering selling the thing. Also it hit -20 here last night and the thing started up just fine the morning, not even plugged in. Also mine has normal stereo, with just a CD / Tape deck, everything is buttons. I think they did the multi-media giant screen thing on the 2003 update so you can avoid it by buying one made before 2003, you do, however, lose 40 hp. Same 4.7L engine but a bit less power. Might be worth the trade off for some people
I have a 2007 LC with 227k miles that is a bit overlanded out. It is my daily driver, has serious torque and is reliable. I recently test drove the new LC 250 and honestly mine felt like it has more torque. At some point in the future (maybe 2-3 years), I plan to get the GX 550 OT + or the Heritiage Edition Land Cruiser 200.
nice rig man , I have a 100 series also here in Perth Oz , I have installed a hurricane fabrications tail gate conversion kit , where you replace the carpet section of the tail gate and cut out some section to create storage , I use it to store recovery gear and tyre inflater. its an awesome addition and frees up some storage . Have you ever thought about swapping the rear side windows to gulwings ? Im also running the dobinsons 2 in lift , works very well . Side note to all you Americans "old man emu" is pronounced like this " old man EEM- YOU" lol
Mike, just an FYI, the ignition on the 100series is a auto bump start. Just turn key in ignition, and immediately let loose of key, and it will start itself. Most do not nm know this, because most cars do not have it.
You can delete the nav and replace it from a non nav 03+ LC100 from the Middle East. You have to source the parts but there’s guys on LC100 pages that can get it. It takes some work to wire it all up but is an option if you’re willing to do it.
Feel the same way about my 2011 Land Rover ( Oi! Mike! lol ) Freelander 2, it's a do all vehicle for me here in the UK. It can chew motorway miles and get a good return on diesel as well as get me places off road. Surprisingly capable. I do have a soft spot for Landcruiser's and many other 4x4's as well. Recently met and chatted to a local 4x4 owner who has a well put together 2023 Toyota Rav 4 that caught my eye, we will be heading out on the local lanes off road soon. Love the off road community no matter which camp you are in.
Our gx470 is at 300,000 miles and our trail rig is a FJ cruiser also at 300,000. Drive it from the pnw to Austin TX just recently. Both have just had original radiators replaced due to separation at the seams. Good vehicles.
Put the Sheel-mann seats in my 3rd Gen Ram. Wow, what a difference! My 200 series seats are plenty comfortable so I haven't seen the need. Now my wife's 4runner - is needs them what than anything but she'll get something new soon and that'll be my oldest kids car. He can take the plank seats in it. Nice rig!
“Build it the way you want to build it” That’s Key Right There!! Don’t build it some specific way b/c someone told you that’s the cool thing to do! Build what YOU love but use quality parts is what I tell people when they ask me about my 100
Just got my 1999 4 runner the beginning of this year. For family camping and off road in its stock form with the factory rear locker its a capable rig for sure. Would love to see a comparison between the two on the channel.
I love my 2000 LC. I don't think I can ever sell it. It has everything I'll ever need. I don't care for new tech. I got lucky and bought mine about 5 years ago from the original owner for $6k with only 163k miles. I spent $2k changing the timing belt, waterpump, coolant T, and the cv axles. I regret getting aftermarket axles. I wish I would have just changed the boots on the OEM axle. The oem ones only leaked but didn't make any noise. Original radiator went at 183k miles and I replaced it with a denso unit. Less than $250. Tackled the job with a friend. Not hard at all.. Only issue I have had was when it's hot out. The door locks would only work intermittently when it's hot. Luckily the manual key works with no issues on the doors but won't work on the rear hatch! The key won't work because it's electronic. I was locked out of the trunk 1 time only. Had to turn on the ac inside at full blast for 2 min to cool it down before it unlocked lol.
The complexity of the new autos comes with additional failure modes. The 2uz engine is one of the best engines Toyota has ever built. Do your regular maintenance and it will take care of you. 282k on the clock here on my GX470 and it drives like its new.
I have a 100 series Land Cruiser and to be honest the only down side is really bad gas mileage so I would need a lot fuel in a zombie apocalypse. is that really something I want to worry about?
Mike you are fortunate that these vehicles are not totally rust buckets. Here in P.A. you can not find anything of that age that will pass our inspection. The state is very strict on rusted vehicles.
My buddy just scored a 84 Tacoma looks almost identical to the bact to the future taco. Solid front axle lifted big tires its awesome!! Dobinson ims are ok but ive seen Bilstein 5100s out perform them which seems crazy me personally i have radflos which have been awesome.
So they make products that add a touchscreen to any nearly any vehicle. I’ve been eyeing the Jensen JC7DM because I’m looking at an older vehicle for my next one. Don’t know a ton about it but they are out there
100 series 2003 2UZ-FE with the 5 gear automatic on. Best build overlanding vehicle ever. The audio/ac system definitely sucks like nothing else in this car. Wonder what kind of connection you’ve made with the CD-Player? So connecting the bluetooth plug with the 12volt lighter slot and connect the plug with the cd player as well? Where do you connect with the cd-player, which interface do you use? And yeah, those old 80’s and 100’s rigs really need to keep alive. So strong built is hard to find nowadays. Only the new 78 series would be questionable for my opinion. Best greets from the alps in Switzerland 🇨🇭 and thanks for your videos.
Engel fridge Mike. Just like your 100, its old school, but virtually indestructible. Did you guys in the US get the 4.2L 1HD-FTE turbo diesel in your 100's? It was an amazing engine. Often regarded here as Toyotas finest moment for a 4x4
I love all Land Cruisers, but the 100 hits the sweet spot, for all the reasons that you mentioned. BTW, I never hit the “Agree” bottom on my LC 100, so the annoying voice is never activated; all other features are available without the need to agree. When I run 275 ties on mine it felt a bit sluggish, then I upgraded to 285 and the vehicle got more lethargic on acceleration. But after re-gearing to 4:88, man! My LC is back to stock acceleration and speed shifting is spot on, it is my favorite mod.
I've spent quite a few hours in that era of Land cruiser. I've an 02 5 seater VW T4 (Eurovan in the US?). It has a cassette player and I have a wired cassette adapter for my phone - it's as much technology as I'm willing to deal with 🤣
I have a 99 lc100. I love it. It does have a rear locker too. It was only available 98-99. 2" lift and 33's. Very capable. It will keep up with my gladiator on 37's. Mike you should check out the tailgate storage solutions. They look really cool.
Best value LC. 80 series are expensive and 200 is outrages still. You can find a 100 with 170k miles for 11k. Especially a vehicle that will last another 300k
Im confused. Cant you just put in an aftermarket double din head unit to replace the current screen? All my older rigs I just put in a cheap Sony aftermarket head unit that has Bluetooth and XM radio and then my phone integrates and I use my phone for nav or a 7" tablet when I need more intensive nav capabilities.
Fellow 100 series owner here. The best vehicle I’ve ever owned hands down. You nailed all the true pros and cons, I agree sir!
100% greatest of all 4x4s
"I'm using 80s propoganda to brainwash my children". Love you Mike. Gotta raise some freedom loving, trouble making, inovating explorers that can think for themselves!❤
Out of all SUVs that I've looked at over the last couple years, the Land Cruiser is my # 1 favorite SUV of all time!! Hands down!!
2001 LC… I have owned it since 2004 - 20 years. It has never left me stranded.
I love my 2008 LX570. Got 170k miles on it and it still runs like new!
I picked up a Lexus GX 470 a couple months ago, it's basically a baby Land Cruiser. It has the same 4.7L engine. Slowly setting it up for overlanding. I'm loving it so far.

Running apple car play in my system using Grom VLINE 2 in my 03 LC100 w/ Nav. Works well and added backup cam. Definitely look into it

Good luck with your surgery my friend God bless
Agreed neck and back surgeries are 50/50 it could make you better or absolutely make it worse its a gamble 😂😂😂
She's a beaut!
Great video and nice set up on your rig.
You gotta pick up the Grom V line. Ive had it for a few months on my LX and it works like a charm with apple car play. Great rig man.
Awesome vid bro, speedy recovery on the back too man!

Took the field craft defensive pistol class this weekend in NJ had a great time and learned a bunch

Great information Mike! God bless brother!
Just got an LX 470 about two months ago! Love it so far!
Mike!! Gotta get you a BT45 Toy for Bluetooth. Easy to install. Also they have apple car play modules you can replace interface with.
Feel the same way about my 2011 Land Rover ( Oi! Mike! lol ) Freelander 2, it's a do all vehicle for me here in the UK.

ive ran those tires on my psd for years and they are great
Love the “new car scent tree” hanging from the mirror!
Nice build Mike!

Love my 💯 series. After 9 years and many adventures it's still going strong.
Gotta love an older Toyota. My '98 Tacoma is about to hit 220k. 3.4, SR5, manual 4x4.
“Build it the way you want to build it” That’s Key Right There!! Don’t build it some specific way b/c someone told you that’s the cool thing to do!

2017 lc200 here. Love it.
Just got my 1999 4 runner the beginning of this year. For family camping and off road in its stock form with the factory rear locker its a capable rig for sure. Would love to see a comparison between the two on the channel.
Love ours it’s an ‘02 that we’ve owned for about 15 years now.

Vow what an informative video . 😍😍😍. Love your enthusiasm.
Mike good to see you hitting it hard brother. Good to see back 👌. But I don't see how you're getting around with those street tires lol.
I love it Mike.
I have a 100 series Land Cruiser and to be honest the only down side is really bad gas mileage so I would need a lot fuel in a zombie apocalypse. is that really something I want to worry about?
That sucks bro. I got the T10 in my runner and it’s 10/10. Hope they get something soon for ya
Nice truck bro, hard to go past Toyota, really popular here in NZ.

There isn’t some kind of double din adapter to switch out the screen?
How much is the full tank fuel capacity?

You can't. Some of the cllimate control and other stuff is integrated into the NAV system.
Is it 5 speed or 4 speed automatic Gear box ?
Wait till he learns about the Toyota Coaster with a Titan Engine swap. Some came with 4wd.
Man this is my dream set up. But feels impossible I pray God allows me to pursue this dream.
How many millennials googled "Sega Genesis". Love it
I’ll agree that the 4.7 is a great powerplant, but for me, the 80 series is peak LC
The 80 series Toyota Amazon 4.2L T.D.I is the greatest jeep ever made. The 100 series 4.2L T.D.I is a close second.
Why not just remove the screen and hardwire a mounted iPad / tablet w/ a data plan or just run it off your phones hotspot
Nice
I want the battery.
My 18 4Runner trd offroad will smoke that 🙃
Wow 😳
I have a 2014 GX 460 with 66k miles and absolutely love it. I chose it over a 4Runner and man I am so glad I did
Nice drive good ride . I love the outback country . Looking good Mike . Keep on Keeping on Earth Angel.😉😉

How many car accidents have you been in? Be honest.
Groms work but way overpriced
The Car Care Nut channel just had a Video around the Head gasket Problem on these V8’s to be aware of.
The 100 series has the 2UZ. This is not an issue.
