Mostly because a lot of cast members got their start there, where it's improv or stand-up comedy (though they've also added people who do online videos, since Andy Samberg and his friends at Lonely Island became the first and most successful).
A lot of people are saying this sketch isn't funny so I feel like very few people here have actually watched live improv shows. The good ones are great and the bad ones are exactly like this sketch right down to the creepy audience volunteer who makes everyone more uncomfortable and the plastered on smiles from the improvisers as they try and work around it. Good sketch imo.
I'm thinking about joining an improv workshop to overcome social anxiety... wonder what will come out of that🤣 btw Kate Mc. looks like Jennifer Connelly's husband in this sketch...
She's never even played a lead role in a feature length film. And keep in mind that there have been so many talented SNL sketch artists that failed to make a career of film. Everyone assumed Dana Carvey would be a HUGE film star, didn't quite pan out.
This is so eerily accurate. Kate really nailed Robert. Right down to the facial tics and his creepy raspy voice. "I have black eyes." 🦈👀 Yes, yes you do, Bobby. 😱 Reminds me of demon eyes on Supernatural. Also very accurate.
Didn’t think this was that funny or remarkable when I saw it the first time as it aired but after finally watching The Jinx holy CRAP is that a spot on impression (I also thought they threw Cecily in just for funsies I can’t believe how far Pirro has fallen from once actually having a job)
First time I saw this, I had never heard of Robert Durst, but I still loved the random darkness of it. Now that I've watched The Jinx, it hits even harder.
Sasheer is a decent actress and not at all unlikeable, but I can't think of a single time she's done anything funny or been allowed to play anyone funny. Is she a secondary part of the cast or something? I don't understand it...
I've seen her perform live improv and she was very funny and quick with the jokes, I do think she must be a sort of 'back-up' cast member or something.
@@averywilson-hannah8111 seems like you got angry😡😡😆🤣🤣... you're an uber snowflake because, in response to Faux news, you insulted the first "liberal" media outlet you could think of... definitely as delicate as the finest of Chinas.
Kate is amazing! I was part of an improv group (we mostly did Ren faires). But we did not do skits based on audience members lives, though they could give us suggestions. I kinda miss it, honestly. It was fun.
I saw a second city show in Chicago recently, and the start of the sketch where they’re dancing around is exactly what it was like (and they also did it during breaks between sketches)
This was hilarious to me and I had no idea Robert durst was a real person until reading a comment below, now after knowing that , this skit is absolutely genius....the part where he asked aidy for her address went right over everyone’s head , lmao
It's so great because all of them are actually professional players who have probably spent time in groups who did the exact things they are mocking hahah.
I watched this and realized I never watched the Jinx and was definitely not understanding some of the jokes so I immediately binged all 6 episodes and then rewatched the sketch. 10/10 would so again because holy hell that shit is crazy lol
Apparently half of these comments are from people who haven't seen The Jinx and/or don't know who Robert Durst was. Guys, come on, get in the loop. Also I think Kate McKinnon's impression of him is pretty funny and spot-on.
I love when SNL makes fun of anything related to theater because it's so accurate
It also gives theatre kids something to do during tech when their not at rehearsal because we can only think about theatre
Mostly because a lot of cast members got their start there, where it's improv or stand-up comedy (though they've also added people who do online videos, since Andy Samberg and his friends at Lonely Island became the first and most successful).
The cast party one is so real
This is actually based on a true person
Millenials in a nutshell.

You don't have to think about it.... sometimes things are funny to some and not to others, chill
***** ok thanks good to know your opinion, really changed my life
Guys guys! it's ok I have pen
I have an apple
:D ........... pen-pineapple apple pen
Ehm, who said that improv has to be funny?

Kyle is SO GOOD at doing the bad comedian. He’s done it a few times before.
@@CUStudioFilms maybe without the hair, it gives him a nerd vibe
@@CUStudioFilms watch Brigsby bear. He's really good in it. also a funny heartwarming film. He also wrote it.
I'm living for Pete's dancing in the beginning lmao.
YES! I was DEDDDDD!
I'm living for Pete
_oh wow thats me_
*looks at you menacingly*
I heard this in Daria's voice 🤣
"What was this for??" LOL I loved those last lines, too!
me when i see my reflection in the mirror:
kate mckinnon has a ton of talent better than some academy winners.
sicunder kahn Agreed! If she pulls a Steve Carnell and starts doing some drama later in her career, I'm convinced she can and will one❤
She's never even played a lead role in a feature length film. And keep in mind that there have been so many talented SNL sketch artists that failed to make a career of film. Everyone assumed Dana Carvey would be a HUGE film star, didn't quite pan out.
d ghostbusters
Hardly the lead in Ghostbusters.
Yea I almost couldn't get into this because her acting for a serial killer was so en pointe.
This is so eerily accurate. Kate really nailed Robert. Right down to the facial tics and his creepy raspy voice.
"I have black eyes." 🦈👀
Yes, yes you do, Bobby. 😱

She was doing the facial tics and it kept making me twitch bc i have that same tic hbhdajbnsj
Anyone else think she sounds like Julie Kavner (Marge Simpson) doing this character?
LOL I did too!
she's playing a real person
A little
Sounds more like Marges sisters
Yesssss
Kate is so talented!!!
Aidy's outfit is so nice in this one!
Thought the same! So cute!
The circus tent and catamaran sail combo?
Agreed!
Kate reminded me of creed from the office
cecily's jeanine piro is quite different these days lmao
Much calmer, and quieter.
I was lookin at Pete in the background the whole time 😂😂
lol me too😂
"Oh Robert, you did it again..." "Did what?" "Killed them all of course..." LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
It’s so hard to be scripted but act like it’s improv and they do it so well!
Pete had me in tears with the wig and his dancing and just generally being Pete.
Kate was f brilliant!!!!
Mariusz Zieliński Just say "fucking" Nobody gonna judge you! You wanna say it so just say it lol.
“And I’m gonna catch you with my own two gorgeously manicured hands”
And then become an insane propagandist for an insurrectionist sociopath. Natural career progression.
Just remember. The reason the cast is so good at improv skits is because they most definitely did improv
That was an amazing impression..she killed it, from the voice to the blinks and crazy stuff he said..
Hów in the world is Kate so feminine and beautifull and can still be a dude multiple times in sketches?
Acting.
lesbian power
Jon Lovitz: ACTINNNNNNG
Her Robert durst impression is too good
Pete and Beck's dancing omg 😍
“I see a small shriveled hand back there”
Kate is a legend
i like how they incorporated his chicken sandwich story into their act
I love how accurate this improv skit is even down to the people giving each other glad in the back like @2:08. Spot on
When Robert came off stage did he say "what was this for?" Lmao!
That's what I heard, too!
Didn’t think this was that funny or remarkable when I saw it the first time as it aired but after finally watching The Jinx holy CRAP is that a spot on impression (I also thought they threw Cecily in just for funsies I can’t believe how far Pirro has fallen from once actually having a job)
best character from kate except for the cat shelter lady.
First time I saw this, I had never heard of Robert Durst, but I still loved the random darkness of it. Now that I've watched The Jinx, it hits even harder.
This brought forth deeply repressed memories of the 5 improv classes I once took that would always end in a free live performance. Why

i think she's a pretty bad actress to be honest
@@dannydorko7075 she's not a bad actress they just haven't really given her anything of note
Where was she in this sketch? Lol.
Wait nevermind lol
This probably Cecily Strong first skit of her doing Jeannie Pirro as she hasn’t yet got her drinking tons of wine nor isn’t screaming at full volume.
2015 and there was a Ceily Strong impersonation of that crazy Faux news lady?! Well she has definitely perfected the impersonation.
Ha, I think this one is more accurate, but I love the over-the-top balls-to-the-wall judge jeanine she's brought to the table more recently.
Faux? Crazy Nonsense News.

I didn’t even realize Pete was in this until a minute in
Kate McKinnon is so talented
Kate MacKinnon is a fuqing genius.
I feel like I wanted to see more of beck and Kyle.
I saw a second city show in Chicago recently, and the start of the sketch where they’re dancing around is exactly what it was like (and they also did it during breaks between sketches)
I mean the impression was actually great of Robert durst
I was literally waiting & so excited for the whole improv skit. 😭😭
This was, by far, my favorite SNL sketch.
Kate was so amazing in this!
'I live right across from JFK'. Subtle line, full of genius.
I lost it the second kate started talking
This was hilarious to me and I had no idea Robert durst was a real person until reading a comment below, now after knowing that , this skit is absolutely genius....the part where he asked aidy for her address went right over everyone’s head , lmao

Kate’s impersonation of Robert Durst is awesome.
Nothing is more chaotic then improv games in middle school theatre
this sketch was made for a very specific audience which i happen to be a part of, 10/10 love it
Kate McKinnon would be perfect in a Kids in the Hall skit.
Marry me Cecily
Lol their little dances at the beginning made me laugh.
Knowing how many groups Aidy has been a part of makes this all the more enjoyable.
I like Aidy's outfit! I want to wear it just like her!
I did Improv a while back...this is very accurate.
Kyle is great in this type of skit on am-dram or improv groups.
Pete's dance at the start always gets me😭
love that they’re taking the piss out of stuff they used to do. makes it even more funny 😂
My mom is a true crime fanatic and i feel like it's my duty as her child to show her this
Kate deserves a spot in the snl top 10
Isn't she some ridiculous vaccine denier now?
Looks like she went downhill after Durst's death.
2:30 Cecily's basic instinct😍
"What was this for"? Genius.
Sketch pitch: Pete Dancing just like that for 4 minutes straight
This is one of the funniest SNL skits I’ve ever seen
Aidy’s laugh at 1:52 makes her sound like a Disney princess
The self-satisfied chuckle after joke hahahahaha.
Holy hell the dance when they show up...It's so ridiculous and yet so true
This is probably the most random thing to ever come out of snl
she looks scarry!
with these black eyes. just like in the aliens looking for men sketch.
Man, those expressions...
Kate is a goddess..
You know an improv show is always 100 when the dude walks like an Egyptian...classy
I honestly REALLY want this character to come back.
more bob durst impersonations please!! This was gold!!
I watched this and realized I never watched the Jinx and was definitely not understanding some of the jokes so I immediately binged all 6 episodes and then rewatched the sketch. 10/10 would so again because holy hell that shit is crazy lol
she's so good at the impression
she killed it as durst!!!
I cried while laughing...Robert you're killin' me.
*winks in pun
I appreciate the Wegmans reference ar 1:50. Wegmans is also used as the breakroom food brand in The Office. Best grocery store in the country!
FACTS! looking for more wawa references too
*FBI OPEN UP!!!*
*THIS IS MICHAEL SCORN...*
Most adorable Robert Durst I've ever seen
Wow, Kate is seriously talented
wow Pete was so good in this sketch
Who remembers the Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze Chippendale’s tryouts!? 😂😭😭 Chris Farley was always my favorite, now it’s Kate McKinnon. ✨
who was the host? why aren't they in the sketch?
Lan probably Pete?
@@mohamadannous8093 that's not how it works
they’re not generally in every sketch, they often need time to change in between!
I love when snl does theatre kids because all the actors were theatre kids
waste of Pete Davidson
i felt he did his part
he was a great supporting character and it was cool to see him reacting
I disagree, I think he did a great old man impression
Brett Mansfield lmao
Yeah, he's a waste in anything, I agree
I casually come back to watch this sketch for Kate McKinnon.
Kate McKinnon killed this performance
Dawg! The dancing at the beginning 😂😂😂
i do improv in public and let me tell you we do attract some of these characters
Robert is basically Creed Bratton from The Office
I love Aidy's outfit!! I can never find a skirt like that I wonder where they got it
H&M
is kate giving every evan peters character ever to anyone else or just me haha
This is exactly how I felt about Whose Line Is It Anyway

I love when they make fun of improv troupes
And when Kate plays old men
I like her as Rudy Giuliani and Dr Fauci
