We lost the great Joe cocker at Christmas time 2014, Luke and Joe, sang from the heart and touched everyone's heart when they sang, bless their souls, and thank you for keeping Luke in our hearts,
Listened to Luke from the very start of the Dubs, still listening to them to this day. Must admit I have never heard Luke struggle for any note. He was, and still is the Pavarotti of the Folk world. There will never be another Pavarotti, neither will there ever be another Luke, just a unique talent. That's all there is to say, rest easy Luke, you and the former Dubs will never be forgotten throughout the generations to come.
I couldn't agree more. Kelly you are a legend, you have given me hours of sheer pleasure, with many a tear shed, particularly when listening to Luke's final performance of this haunting, wonderful song. Thank you for every song you upload.
catharine Last although this isnt Lukes final performance, he did sing this song at his final live performance. His last ever recording was Song For Ireland
Ah Kelly dear thanks for finding _this_version. A little different version then his later and last performance. He sings this in the key of "A" and then he sweetened it up a few years later to the key of "G". Pure genious ans still the greatest folk singer of ALL times. Tanks be to God we have these recordings. Slan, Dan Reilly PS: Wifey told me today she booked two weeks in April of 2011. Maybe we can meet at O'Donohue's and look at all the great photo's of Luke.
Wonderful to hear this earlier version. Higher key of course than the one we're more familiar with and you can hear Luke strain a little for those high notes. Glad he took it down a few steps later on.
Here his voice seems more strong and full energy. In another last version is so sad!!! Makes me cry and break totally my heart. But I Love all versions sung by him.
Just listen to the applause of the audience at the end, I don't really think you're going to see likes of Luke Kelly anymore, these sort of people come along once in a life time.
Magic Luke, He was & still is through his volume of work the greatest singer of his type I have ever heard, in fact you could almost say of any type. Good on you Luke, you were for everybody.
I'm very serious when I say this, but I think you are worthy of some kind of documentary yourself Kelly, what you have put together is very, very important and appreciated by lots of people the World over!!!
This song everytime I listen to it makes me cry I have learnt to the banjo to play it like Luke Kelly and I would like to sing like him but I will never personally replaced Kelly I think this song and a song for Ireland if you listen to them both together you can hear Luke's spirit and Away feeding and ending notes of song for Ireland and the night visiting song
@ambyyy1 I was thinking the same, thank you kellyoneill for uploading the lifes work of luke kelly, every time i search for him ,surprise surprise, its your vids that come up,i really appreciate the effort u have made to share this with us. Maybe u should write a book about him?
Without any shadow of doubt the greatest Irish singer of all time, simply outstanding.
I love the way he says 'I hope I can do it, but we'll try', and then you hear the immense power of the first few notes he hits. Beautiful.
My eternal reget is that i couldnt see Luke sing this live.
RIP, Luke Kelly. We miss forever. You're the magnificent.

His Grandmother was Scottish.
