This showcase match against UR Murktide is exactly why the data says the deck has a below 50% win rate across the format, despite most commentators and players agreeing the deck is very good. Turns out when you make a deck that has an infinity of little decisions that each matter, the punts become uncountable.
It's very similar to old jund. It occasionally had the unga bunga thoughtseize-darkconfidant-liliana curve play that blew out pretty much every deck, which made people think it was a easy deck to pilot, but the deck was actually pretty difficult to play optimally when you didn't have the godhands.
I really love the hype that comes from when your channel music starts playing at an important part in the video. It's really that "shit just got real" moment xD
Being BUG, I think I'd try it with Biomancer's familiar (redundancy + it can be reanimated by Tyvar) and maybe throw in one Tasigur since he also benefits from having abilities discounted. Nice deck though!
I LOVE this brew. Have you considered Tamiyo's Safekeeping as the protection card? It can protect more than just your lands AND it gives you 2 life which is helpful in so many ways.
You can really see how much more resilient the final version of the deck was. All the versions of the deck could go infinite and get a win, but you can see how much power there is in resilience and being able to come back from serious disruption.
Was spinning Kinan for 3 mana a consideration against the ledger shredder? They get the connive, but you then get to start looking at the top 5 and grabbing creatures every turn (twice a turn if you hit another bird).
Bob is a Human so spinning Kinnan isn't great and I already found 3 Cliques. It's a possible line but I was trying so hard to not let them connive as they were flooding
Please, build your own version of 8-Squee Infestation. It's a pet deck of mine. I wish dearly there was a better win con than Faith of the Devoted but hey, it's a fun deck anyway.
Could also win turn 2 with training grounds... requires a near perfect hand. 2 Mox Ambers, Draftna, Training Grounds and Monastery Swiftspear. T1 Swiftspear T2 Draftna into Amber into Training grounds, play second Amber and bounce and replay until Swiftspear is lethal
knacksaw clique is probably not great because it is a 4 mana creature that dies to fury and doesn't do anything the turn it's played. umbral mantle though, I see some potential there.
Just a thought, but would it not be more consistent to have Zirda the Dawnwaker as a companion? I know the mana rate is worse, but at least then you're guaranteed to get it every time.
@@Orcasgt22 unless I completely misunderstand the cards, no it doesn't? Kinnan has the ability "5UG: do the stuff". That's an activated ability, so you can run both. The only thing you'd have to change is take out the Training Grounds completely since they don't have an activated ability but the rest of the deck stays the same.
What about assault formation? My buddy thought it was gonna be a broken card when it came out, bought a shitload and nothing came of it. If you make a video about it, I’ll become a patron!!
It seems that there are too little synergies in that deck around Training Grounds. I imagine there are many suitable options because they are weak cards without Training Grounds.
In chapter 2: "This deck looks pretty decent right?" Um... no? This looks like pure jank. XD Curious to see how the rest of the video pans out but that was a really odd comment to make. Edit: I wouldn't say it got decent. It definitely got better but it's still pure jank and way too cute.
Bro imagine how cool it would be if they banned the evoke incarnations and Ragavan. I'm so sick of watching interesting and powerful brews get destroyed by them.
Tbh knacksaw clique seemed pretty garbage and you were winning all kinds of other ways without it. I def think umbral is the better untapper and easy to tutor for if you need the consistency.
All this really showed was why training ground isn't good. If it where just umbral mantel combo you would turn from 3 to 2 card combo. Training ground isn't doing something you could do was easier other ways

Based and wholesome

I really liked that you showed the process and the changes the deck underwent... you should stick with this sequence :)

Like the evolution style narrative. Keep that

Excellent video, great editing and the list bangs
Funny you should mention Izzet Guildmage in the beginning, because that was exactly what I did with Training Ground.
Been loving your content. Make an Ad Nauseam video for modern soon!!
Please, build your own version of 8-Squee Infestation. It's a pet deck of mine. I wish dearly there was a better win con than Faith of the Devoted but hey, it's a fun deck anyway.
Can you test out Daniel Buchanan's Living End List or some spicy Obosh Mono red midrange?
This feels like a Black/Blue version of Zirda's Mantle which is basically doing the same thing, but in Green/White instead.
As a Kokusho fan (and a fan of your channel), do you have a way to make it work in Modern?
Could also win turn 2 with training grounds... requires a near perfect hand. 2 Mox Ambers, Draftna, Training Grounds and Monastery Swiftspear.
T1 Swiftspear
T2 Draftna into Amber into Training grounds, play second Amber and bounce and replay until Swiftspear is lethal
And how did the other matches go in this league, after 2-0 vs UR?
This is why you're the best magic youtuber, quality shit
I think a Jegantha in the sideboard would fit nicely.
can you make a deck with training grounds for modern plz
😂 brilliant! Really enjoyed that.
why do decks prefer tyvar's stand over tamiyo's safekeeping these days? tamiyo seems like a way bigger upside because you can target any permanent

No. Decks like this need Kinnin. Kinnin invalidates Zirda's companion clause

@@Level_1_Frog I totally forgot it has that effect. I have never seen it used. Ever lol
@@Orcasgt22 yeah I've only ever seen it used in CEDH when they go infinite to churn through the deck for combo pieces.
Dark Confidant doesn't respect the clause; then again, so does Urza's Saga, since it gains the mana ability on the first chapter
Now we need training grounds in pioneer/standart
Please make a good deck with elenda, the dusk rose in any format
I think she might do well in legacy with a nim deathmantle combo
Now everyone should ask a MILLION times for you to do it AGAIN! As Andy Dufraine once said, "They can't ignore me forever". 😊
Training Grounds + kozilek's translator +Essence Depleter = Eldrazi's Infinite Damage
What about assault formation? My buddy thought it was gonna be a broken card when it came out, bought a shitload and nothing came of it. If you make a video about it, I’ll become a patron!!

The deck is kinda bad obviously, the wins had barely anything to do with the combo. But you have the bend the truth a little bit in a brewing channel.
I think they Otawarad your kinnan because if they left it you could activate it to put in creatures for free
Would Biomancer's Familiar be worth playing for redundancy ?
Can you make a deck with seance for modern pls?
Cool deck man, keep these up :)
In chapter 2: "This deck looks pretty decent right?"

Do you play pioneer?
this deck looks way better than it should
Best magic UA-camr ong
ill tell ya, the shrine decks can get nasty. unless they have lots of board wipes, graveyard hate, and bouncing, it gets nasty real fast
Great storytelling
Add Zirda for max shenanigans
isnt there a companion training ground?
Packrat is pretty solid with training grounds.
i played 3 TG in UG Hardened scales just for walking ballista #pewpew
wish it was against hammertime or just plain burn
just take out kinnan for counter magic and it's gg wp this deck is NUTS
Inspiring statuary legacy please!!
Where's Viral Drake, harry? You literally just saw how good proliferate is with counter based mana.....
Bro imagine how cool it would be if they banned the evoke incarnations and Ragavan. I'm so sick of watching interesting and powerful brews get destroyed by them.
maybe is good enough 8 nobles xd cause we attack aloine xdxd
Training ground elite archanist
The Birds!!!
Definitely not the cleanest brew, but entertaining as always!
Should have put in pack rat
unexpected results pls
🐐
4 cards combos in modern serns not so good. But iine your ideea
This is awesome
It's pronounced "click."
It's pronounced /kliːk/.
@@thekilla1234 Yes.
I used to play a dimir control deck with training grounds and pack rat. Made for some ugly games.
This is just a worse Devoted Druid deck right?
Now do Seance! /s
Tbh knacksaw clique seemed pretty garbage and you were winning all kinds of other ways without it. I def think umbral is the better untapper and easy to tutor for if you need the consistency.
Knacksaw clique may be garbage but it did some hilarious stuff in the murktide match.
so all i have to do is spamming 100 comments with do a seance deck and thats it?
All this really showed was why training ground isn't good. If it where just umbral mantel combo you would turn from 3 to 2 card combo. Training ground isn't doing something you could do was easier other ways
Goat
Woah woah woah... a magic youtuber showing how a deck failed. What reality is this.
