I miss the brief time I was able to play a competitive zombie tribal deck in standard.
I have a good zombie deck in the current Standard.
I miss my parents.
I miss the extended time where standard rotated out faster so I could stop playing zombie tribal decks in standard
There are a few ways to build a somewhat competitive deck in current standard, mostly in Dimir colors. Not Meta, but good enough to be fun
@@michadomeracki5910 good is relative, is it good on arena /mtgo or at the store vs the avg player / deck in a slightly more competitive environment than tabletop magic? might be, but vs the best players with the most tested and proven decks in the format, no, im sure it's not "good", or you would see it being played in events sucessfully, im sure its fun to play though.
EDIT: and example is izzet Wizards or charbelcher in historic on arena. its good on the ladder, but vs real teir1/0 decks it falls short which is why they dont ever get played in events on arena or Mtgo with any regularity or sucess

I love that Liliana's answer to Emrakul taking your turn was... to just have your opponent pass because there was nothing to do. Zombies came in automatically, Liliana got popped by her own ultimate, and you can't touch emblems. There was basically nothing they could do to negatively impact the board with your opponent's own cards so... they just passed and eventually got overrun by the zombies.
Also a lore win.
Seeing Liliana The Last Hope as a $4 card is really strange, compared to the Standard environment she was in. She was one of those cards that was good, but too pricy to really bother with. In practice, she got there with that ultimate quite a few times if the +1 effect could kill a few creatures. And Kalitas was a strange introduction to power creep for me (after a long hiatus). One of the first "wow, this thing does a lot!" experiences I had. I did end up buying a playset of him.
Huge respect to Nizz for putting as much effort as he does in his vids. It's so sad that he doesn't get the attention deserves. The fact that he puts out such good quality content on a regular basis when he also has to focus on his work as a teacher is actually insane. Love the spooky halloween intro as well. Thank you Nizzahon for all of the awesome work. Keep it up!

Surprised you didn’t do vampires, since they are significant to Ixalan and you did them last 3 or 4 years ago as well. Was there not significant enough changes to their list?

geralf's messenger i think is a good one not sure if it made the list. but it has 2 lives. then pair it and other zombies with soul foundry to really drive the deck's power into late game being hard to get rid of the zombies. and it's not legendary creature which is a perk because this means many copies in play feasible. it's strong enough i put it in my demon/phyrexian/zombie beat down deck. the demons are pretty insane like 6/6 flyers for 4 mana and the draw isn't so bad. etc. geralf's messanger made it even into my decks not zombi themed. like abyssal persecutor, you can't win the game when it is in play, but it is a 6/6 flyer for 4 mana and you can make opponent be negative hp and then sacrifice it and win the game. not so bad of a draw back. the power of the creature controls the board single handedly. etc.
They're not the strongest zombie and enabler, but I'll be damned if Champion of the Perished and Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia together aren't fun as Hell. I love one drops that curve excellently into synergistic two-drops. In Standard right now, for me that's Hopeful Initiate and Botanical Brawler. I wish the removal wasn't so strong rn, because all I wanna do is smack face without playing red aggro.
Carrion feeder fell off the list? No way, how could they do that to the greatest magic card ever. Time to start grinding zombies in modern and pauper to get our boy back on the list

Just a genuine question. What would everyone's opinion be on what would be Blacks most iconic early creature? Like how red has Shivan dragon, and white has Serra's angel. What would be black's? And while I'm asking for opinions on this, what would be blue's?
I dont know if they're iconic... but as a kid, Sengir Vampire, Hypnotic Specter and Nightmare were cards i remembered very well
For Blue, it was Mahamoti Djinn... although i think that was Arabian Nights rather than Core set
And white was... Serra Angel... i... will let you try to imagine why an 8 year old me thinks so... 😅
If it wasn't so rare and expensive, Juzam Djinn would have made your list. 4 mana for a 5/5 was amazing, even with the downside.
Probably Hypnotic Specter. It’s also from Alpha, was very powerful back in the day, and has pretty iconic art
Back in the day turn 1 dark ritual into Hypnotic spectre was practically compulsory but Spectres haven't really had a lot of support so I'd go with Sengir Vampire it can go toe to toe with The others and had its own effect like Shivan had fire-breathing and Serra Vigilance
I would say either Sengir Vampire or Lord of the Pit for black. The early blue creatures were... well... all bad, tbh.
Zombies being the balck iconic color is great for the modern, super ambitious WOTC who claim black isn't evil it's just ambition. Defileing a corpse is also very one the nose for WOTC.
