Thanks for checking out my video! We're swapping pickups in my Mayones Regius 7 string. Silos vs. Ragnaroks! What do you think?
I wanted to keep the gain/levels exactly the same on the amps and in Ableton. But the Ragnaroks were much louder than I expected! No clipping in or out of Axe FX, nor on the mic preamps. Clipping was only the Ableton master channel with the double tracked guitars.
Strings: D'Addario NYXL 9.5-64
The Ragnaroks feel more inspiring and fun to play. They are really devastating/brutal/filthy on high gain metal sounds. Let me know what you think about the tones!
Just to address it before it comes up - I know the level change between pickups is an issue... I thought about it for a few days and kept thinking of pros and cons either way. I wanted to hear the tone with the exact same amp settings and NO alterations in the DAW. Literally what it would sound like if you compared two guitars thru the same amp. This is why I made sure to leave a download of all the stems, if you click the link you can get those and normalize them in pro tools or level match by ear and see which tone you prefer. Obviously louder is going to sound better in the video. But if you're a serious tone addict and want to give that a shot, let me know what you decide!
The Ragnarok Metalcore section was awesome!
Rags sound better solo, but I can imagine that a full mix would change things
Maybe, I will take that into consideration for future videos!
The Silo’s on clean for the win all day, but the oomph on the Ragnarok kills it for distortion.
Wowwwwww the lead tone of the Silos blew my mind!!!!
I almost ordered silo or polymath, but thanks to this demo I will stick with Ragnarok for all my modern guitars
Good demo comparison
awesome, I mean honestly all BKP are amazing. it really just depends on the guitar and style. Glad you found it helpful!!
Awesome job on this comparison. I love that you put up the eq. I read your statement about the volume but I would volume match in the future. Almost always people pick the louder sample.
Thanks! I will definitely volume match in the future. I was initially skeptical about how much gain the pickups would add. People always like louder.
Best comparison video I've ever seen. The graph on the left really helps you pinpoint what you're hearing but may not be able to put a finger on. I knew I liked the silo better but couldn't figure why--upon seeing the graph it seems to be cuz the mids aren't as prominent
Awesome thanks G. I will do more of these with diff guitars and amps. Got some great feedback from y’all!!
@@LucasMessore yeah I immediately went to go look for more of them on your profile. You should def do more--the format, sound quality, and visuals are better than most others I've seen. Can't wait for more of 'em! Gonna subscribe now
I bought my first set of Bareknuckle pickups earlier this year. It came down to the Warpig, Ragnorak and PolyMath. After listening to the sample clips from BareKnucklepickups, I went with the Warpigs. The sales guy from Bareknucklepickups said the WarPigs are the hottest pickups they have, the Ragnarok comes in 2nd. So I like the Ragnarok slightly better than the SILOs based on the high output, and by listening to your Modern Metal riff, the Ragnaroks sounded a lot better overall to me. Great comparison video. Thanks for uploading 👍
Definitely want to get some cpigs as well. Thanks !!
This is immensely helpful for me as I have a Regius 7 with Ragnaroks, and was gassing for Silos / Juggs but it seems like Rags sounded more to my taste here
Yeah Rahul, the gas is real and hard to overcome. I think the jugs might be sick, a lot of people on the mayo Facebook page told me to get them. But they aren't as aggressive. The Silos could be awesome in the right guitar for sure. Definitely not a 7 though, IMO. Also my rags coil split super well which is a huge plus!
@@LucasMessore Yeah that was another thing I was pleasantly surprised by,
@@LucasMessoreWatching this again and I’m so glad this video exists 😊
That Regius is absolutely magnificent
Thanks!! Yeah they do a good job, they have a lot of other cool models!
Thanks for the video. I was 2 sets of bareknuckles but didn't install & am not after this video. They sound cold & like a blow dryer! Tone robbing to me! 🤔👌
damn, I mean they make pretty badass pickups honestly, but there's a lot of other stuff out there too!
I have a maybe strange question: We do a lot of covers within the modern "famous guitarist" realm, ranging from progressive metal/djent (Angel Vivaldi, Rabea, Periphery) to progressive rock (Polyphia, Unprocessed...so the single coily overcompressed fraction). Going down the "one size fits all" approach, we are gigging with 7 strings as well to avoid guitar and tuning changes.
That said: Do you (or the community) think that either of those two pickups fits to that setup, particularly when it comes to Polyphia (as metal is already covered well)? Which pickup would you recommend here?
No worries, cool question. Check out the ibanez AZ series 7 strings. You want something with dedicated single coils or that were designed with coil splits in mind AKA the AZ series. Problem solved.
Hey Lucas, is your Mayones a baritone or the standard 25.4 scale and how low do you have it tuned? I’ve got an almost identical Regius 7 on order that’s going to be equipped with Silos but I keep flip flopping between the Silos and the Rags
it's the standard scale!
Traditionalist here: silos clean.
So hard with the volume bias but it is pretty amazing that the silos sound good in any context could definitely have a guitar with the rags though for sure.
Yeah for sure! Volume change was much more than what i was expecting. Silos great, would probably get them uncovered and more for a bolt on style guitar. Really like the Rags, they work well for like active vibes but not active haha.
Been teetering between the Silos & the Ragnaroks. Most certainly helped me make up my mind. Thanks alot for doing this 🤘
awesome!
What pickup covers do you have on the silos?
brushed nickel with black screws they look sick! But fyi i would recommend uncovered pickups for high output
Well done!
Thanks!
Sweet video! This may be a weird question, but at what height do you have your Ragnaroks?
Not sure! We dialed them by ear honestly
Neck Low ~8/64ths, Neck Hi 8/64, Bridge Low 6/64, Bridge Hi 3/64. Measured from string to the pickup screws!
@@LucasMessore Thank you! :)
Awesome Comparison, i really love the tones and your Style of Playing. In which case do you think the silos are the better choice? 😃🤘
Thanks Martin! I would personally use the Silos in a 6 string guitar maybe more of a bolt on vibe. For this 7 string I just wanted something more brutal and compressed, which is exactly what the rags do.
Awesome review!
Thanks!
Great comparison. Great video and amazing guitar. I'm looking into getting a Regius 7 pretty soon. Love that color.
Thank you and do it!
The Silos have less 5k bite to them while the rags have lots of bite, almost like the Aftermath does (this was Misha's fav pickup before he got his sigs). Silos sound like they would be better in a brighter guitar where you are playing tighter tight things with them. Rags have a lot of bite and are more aggressive which I agree with you, work better in your Regius. Nice video gave you a sub!
Thanks man! Yes agreed!
very interested in the silo as well as the miracle man
I HATED the Ragnarok when I had it (twice). Way too much output and way too much mids. Like no end at all, just MIDS.
Yeah it’s not for everyone. But what guitar did you put em in?
The Rags have so much more grit, the Silo is smooth and blended for sure. I'd love to hear the Silo in the neck with the Rag in the bridge.
Good call!
Ragnarok hight output
Indeed!
Definitely Odin
Hey what do you mean?
@@LucasMessore I mean that Ragnarok pickup works better for me)
