- Located at the western edge of Surrey, around 35 miles southwest of London, is the town of Farnham.
Recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Ferneham', it was granted a town charter in 1249. Lying on the River Wey, the town is overlooked by Farnham Castle to its north. Built in the 12th century by the grandson of William the Conqueror, its keep was partially dismantled by Parliamentarians following the Civil War, although the castle and adjoining Bishop's Palace had been home to the Bishops of Winchester right up until the early 20th century.
In the 17th century Farnham became a prosperous market town, producing greenware pottery, wool, cloth and wheat. Owing to its relative proximity to London, Farnham became a popular resting place for horse-drawn carriages going to and from the capital. A number of coaching inns thrived during this era, as is evidenced by the various timber-framed buildings we see around the town.
The arrival of the railway in Farnham in 1849 saw a decline in the coaching inn trade, although other industries benefitted as goods produced in the town could be transported more quickly and efficiently. The nearby village of Aldershot grew into a town not long after, as it became the home of the British Army. This was to benefit traders in Farnham, who were able to provide goods and services for their new neighbours.
During the walk we see a statue of William Cobbett. Born in 1763 in Farnham, Cobbett was an outspoken political journalist who called out corruption among the ruling class and promoted traditional rural values.
Other people from Farnham include cricketer Graham Thorpe and World Cup winning rugby union player Jonny Wilkinson, although Wilkinson was born in nearby Frimley.

My english is not good. I'm south korean. 49yrs old. I had been at broomleaf road near Farnham station in 1997 for 8 month. I still miss one pint of poster beer at the pub! I studied at Surrey language centre(now they quit teaching) and Waverley abbey. I still remember the rental house owner, Frank hanmer and his family. This 15min. Cam Walk reminds me unforgettable memories. Thank you so much for uploading :)
Thanks for the kind words! Your English seems fine to me! :)

Yes. It's still there. they are selling nice chinese meals over 25yrs. I sometimes ate that chinese noodle in small paper box. it is really yummy!
@@rempica They were already there when I went to the boarding school in Frensham from 1975 to 1979.
Did someone go on a litter pick before filming< its usually quite littered at times even with a fine young man who works very hard trying to keep up with it.
Anyone from kerala?
My town, ruined by the traffic.
As can be seen, spoilt by the traffic. Shame really..
It’s a mixed bag. Godalming is similar to Farnham but pedestrianising the town centre really kind of killed it.
Though I agree the traffic is a bit excessive.
still the same old shit whole not a lot has changed great vid mind you Alton is no better
It's literally in the most affluent borough of the Uk
Very Snobby atmosphere
