- Tom Cruise is all over the news at the Paris Olympic Games and it was just announced that he is doing a special "stunt" at the Closing Ceremony, handing the Olympic Flag off to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Olympics. However no mention of his involvement in Scientology and connection to cult leader David Miscavige.
How did he get involved with Scientology? When did Tom Cruise first meet David Miscavige? Why does he still follow L. Ron Hubbard and this abusive cult?

Kind of hilarious that DM and Sci drove Tom Cruise away from Mimi Rogers, who's father was an SP, and towards Nicole Kidman, who's father was a psychologist
the phil obit thread in the forum adds more context to the early days. the santa clara mission was always much larger than the palo alto mission. i don't know that either had 100 staff. palo alto was more geared to the wealthy bunch. santa clara was more the middle class. but malcolm cheminais and phil were both at ASHO in the days that it went sea org. one of the last things i posted in that thread, was something phil wrote about LRH putting out a hit on him and malcolm for not joining the sea org at ASHO. they came to the bay area and opened missions instead. both kingsley wimbush and malcolm were saint hill trained. malcolm migrated there from south africa and kingsley from australia.
palo alto moved around through the years but the main location in the 70's was a very small, old house near downtown palo alto. it really didn't fit that many people. kingsley and malcolm moved at least three times, only because they kept outgrowing the location. i was out by the late 70's but now that i've read all about the mission massacre, that seemed to be the only reason kingsley and phil were declared. probably malcolm at the same time.. i just don't remember reading his name in any of the postings. kingsley passed years ago. malcolm just a year or so ago.
so kingsley and malcolm ran santa clara. phil ran palo alto until all hell broke loose. then i think sarge gerbode took over. and in between all that, there were the never-ending spouse swaps.
i think spanky may have been just leaving santa clara around the time i showed up. so she would have been in the first of three buildings they had in the 70's. each one larger than the one before. the last one (stevens creek) was pretty good sized!
actually, correction. by 1975ish the mission on middlefield in palo alto (residential house) had moved to a location in menlo park near the train tracks. then they moved to el camino in palo alto (busier commercial road), all in the 70's. but it seems to me that the little house was their busiest place. my postings about mimi's mother in the forum were wrong. the wiki page does show her mother's name. at least the first name was right. no clue where they got that last name. it isn't the name on the marriage license. by 1971, phil was in palo alto and pretty sure teri was already his wife then. that was the woman i had thought was mimi's mother. phil had four kids. randy, mimi, paul and christopher. christopher came from teri (it's posted in the old newsletters) but mimi was the previous/first wife that was not around. randy still uses the spickler name, chris changed his name to berwick which is the name of the man who raised him (teri's next husband). and paul uses the name "abbott" which came from the maternal grandparents. wiki claims mimi graduated from palo alto high school at age 14. i'm not too sure that is true. she was a working auditor by then though. phil and teri divorced and teri married ed berwick. phil married julie gerbode that had been married to sarge. ed was a blown indie by 1976, so not sure exactly when all that went on. i also found a thread of old jabber about sarge helping david mayo sue the church when mayo was running his thing in santa barbara. can't post it in the forum as a bunch of us got booted out at the end of march. some of this is in sarge's wiki page, which is under his actual name - frank gerbode. i just checked ancestry and randy was also born in santa clara county. mimi and paul look alike and are close in age. so guessing paul and mimi came from the first wife and randy and christopher from teri.
The Gold Construction Team or referred to as the GCT was the RPF up in Gilman Hot Springs. Work on the "decks" for 8 hours then 5 hours of enhancement time. But when projects were wanted yesterday then we would have to work 36 to 48 hours straight, sleep then do it again. I really wonder how many people that were on any of the RPFs are now, and still a member of the church?
