- Magical Melody might be one of my favorite Harvest Moon games after doing everything there is to do in it. Don't get me wrong, it was a grueling journey, but a fun one regardless. Marvelous should really get on making a remake because it would be a solid 8.8/10 if they get it right. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the video!

I originally only had a wonderful life as a kid and was blown away when I got Magical Melody.
Fun fact: when you’re a girl and pregnant, your stamina becomes a fraction of what it usually is. For 3 whole seasons. And of course dear husband didn’t help with the farm at all. It freaking sucked and I remember hating it.

man playing a girl in the early games really fcks you over haha. i remember in one of the DS or GB ones (i dont remember... maybe 3?) the game ends when you give birth... but if you play as a boy, your wife can have a baby and it grows up just fine lol
Remember trying to play this but falling of it hard because of the villagers leaving if you don't speak to them/ship enough things. As a child, my brain was already overwhelmed trying to keep my farm going I didn't have enough hours in the days to keep everyone happy as well 😭
Yeah, it was really tough to keep them all in the village AND do stuff to make money lol

19:55 Bamboo is, in fact, a plant and biodegrades naturally in a few months, the same time span it takes a banana peel or paper products (made from wood) to decompose; Compared to plastic which takes 20-500yrs to decompose, and it never truly goes away, only gets smaller! I guess the only disadvantage of bamboo is that it can grow too quickly and get out of control even on poor nutrient soil, making it easily invasive.
Is nothing in this world sacred? Now I’m worried that the bamboo boats I float will end up over populating a small marsh and cause a eco disaster lol
@@JackDuckGoose you need to dry the Bamboo to use it first, you don't do that with Green Bamboo, as its soft and rots quickly.
I’m thinking about replaying Magical Melody. I rage quit because a few years ago I accidentally wrote over my file while sleep deprived. I was married to Ann and just had a kid and was rich. 😭😭😭
that rage quit was well earned. Nothing gets me more upset than saving over a file lol
I did that with Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. My main file was a female protag(all the towns A or S rank and basically around when I was gonna choose who of those I had my eye on to smooch) but with the DLC out I wanted to make my 2nd file a guy file because I loved the DLC romanceable gal.
I wrote over my OG, 200-300+ hr file by mistake. ...Yeah I quit the game for well over ay ear and never quite got back in to it after.

If you ever do a 100% of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town or Harvest Moon: Animal Parade, you can bet I'll be watching them at least 2-3 times. AP is probably my most favorite of all the games, with the OG on the SNES being a close second.
I’ve really wanted to play AP, but my computer can’t handle it as is. I’ll probably give it a try when I get a new one!

As someone who's played a majority of the HM entries from 64 on up, MM was my absolute FAVORITE. It just felt like I actually had the most agency over things and actually had an impact over what was happening around me. Loved it. I purchased the AWL remake, and I don't hate it, but I don't love it like I did the original. It just feels like there isnt a lot to do.
MM is definitely up there as one of the best HM games for me. I agree with you on the remake. They definitely could have added some stuff, but I respect the choice to go for a more faithful remake.

I loved this game growing up and never ended up 100%'ing it myself (even though I printed out 10 pages of a walkthrough from Gamefaqs...) so its nice to watch someone play through and basically 100% the game I loved the most as a kid, so thank you for the awesome video and bringing back some vivid memories! I never got the chance to play Harvest Moon, so I was happy to finally learn what it's all about!
It's a pretty great series! Fair warning though, if you're looking to play more recent titles that are on the switch and PC, Harvest Moon became Stores of Seasons after some IP disputes with their former publisher.

I had also wanted to 100% Magical Melody as I adored it as a kid. In the process I realized how rosy tinted I saw it. I didn’t finish 100% but a new perspective at least? Lol, I got close but the tedium of fishing was rough. Plus there was no real heart events! I still hope they remake it but I’ll be a little more cautious before buying.
Yeah, the villager interactions were always meh in my experience. I remake would definitely need to flesh out those characters. You're entirely right about fishing. Towards the end of 300 Days, I basically did farm chores and spent 13-15 in game hours fishing lol
i know absolutely nothing about harvest moon other than that it exists and that my brother played one of the gamecube games when we were younger and honestly i am so ready to spend 2 and a half hours being immersed in harvest moon lore

I was about 10 notes from finishing the game wayyyyy back when it came out! I loved playing this HM after coming home from school.
Then my little sister accidentally saved over my file.
Then my next file glitched and I was never able to get the Poor Note. So I gave up. Catching all the fish was probably my favorite challenge, thinking back on it.

I really loved that one, it was my first harvest moon, and my first farming type game at all! I never hear anyone talk about this game, so finding this video makes me so happy. This makes me want to start up the old GameCube and start a new farm. This game was one of my favorites growing up, and I had a few save files, but never managed to “complete” the game. I still really want to, but the last time I tried, I got stressed out trying to keep up with all of the ugly weeds around town and couldn’t deal with it. I just want to play a game that’s exactly this but with the ability to actually clear weeds. My life would be complete.

I definitely grew up on the N64 playing Super Mario and pokemon stadium, but I didn't get into Harvest Moon until GameCube so all these GC games have a special place lol

Also u forgot to mention the boat sailing note, and eve’s night moon note, and the starlight note, the garbage can note and the gardening note.
Where were you when I was editing this lol. I'm going to spend some time answering your questions.
You can see at 4:16, I have 6 notes already, so I must've missed an early one. My best bet is that it was the garbage can note. Also, at 12:50, you can see that I have enough flowers grown to get the gardening note. I must have just missed that while editing. That's kind of confirmed at 14:32 as I have 25 notes in the diary page. I also missed the brushing note so it could have been that too.
I didn't include the boat sailing note (20:00) and the starlight note (53:34) because I felt that seeing the cutscenes filled that requirement. In hindsight, I definitely would have included those.
Regarding Eve's note, I must have just missed the part where she gives the note, but I did get the portion when she knocks on our door at 1:07:42

I hope you cover harvest moon Ds next, as it was my very first harvest moon game and it brings so much nostalgia! ❤️ If you do play it be sure to get the North American version as the European version cuts out the gba connectivity with friends of mineral town leaving you unable to marry the mineral town girls. And make sure the serial number on the back of the cartridge has the number 1 after the letter N because if you don’t you won’t be able to marry the Witch Princess or the Harvest Goddess.

Magical Melody was my favorite of the harvest moons in general. we had it for the wii, and i used to come home from school and play it until dinner. always named my first two chickens atlas and perseus, and my first cow moomin.

If I wanted to be pedantic, there technically IS one thing you missed, but you wouldn't be able to do it in the same save file; there's an alternate ending if you marry Jamie, evidently. Though, the hoops you have to jump through to accomplish that are, uh, a lot.

This was one if my first harvest moon games as a kid because i got a wonderful life after this game and i love it still to this day.
AWL was my first Harvest Moon game and it will always be my favorite, but I really like some of the mechanics in Magical Melody and hope for a remake lol

I have trauma from this game as a child because my file kept getting corrupted and it wasn’t until years later that I learned it was because my brother would go on my file to play, then when saving would immediately turn off the GameCube even though it tells you not to do that :/

I feel you on AWL. I definitely played a bit of Magical Melody as a kid, but it required a lot of effort, especially in the first season, and some of the stamina mechanics can get annoying. Definitely worth a long play if you get a chance lol

Thanks so much! If you do want to play a more modern Harvest Moon game, make sure you play Story of Seasons. There was an IP dispute that resulted in the creators of Harvest Moon having to create a new brand, and the new Harvest Moon games are created by an entirely different company.
Im curious, are you going to do something like this for the other games in the series? would love to see you do this for Animal parade since i view it as the last "OG Harvest moon" although if you do... i would not fault you for using a cheat to remove the animal limit since the game prevents you from having more than 3 different types of barn animals but has 8 different barn animals......
Animal Parade is definitely on my list. My computer right now can't run the game AND record at the same time so it's definitely something I'll have to do when I get a new computer!
@@JackDuckGoose that makes me so happy to hear, the Wii Harvest moon games dont have any "100 day" or 100% completion" videos and i think Animal parade is the defacto complete version of the wii titles since it fixes all of the issues of Tree of tranquility,

I remember sinking a fair few hours into harvest festival for the wii, but for whatever reason the events would always be cancelled due to 'low turnout' and I never understood what I was doing wrong. I also remember my character constantly falling on his face because I thought it was funny to keep him sleep deprived
Lol yeah the game never really explains much. All the book I skipped through and watching the various TV channels seemed to tell you what to do with festivals
Real question: how did you get the tools to work. I've been playing the game for years and I've yet to find a way to rebind the switch tool and use tool functions to different buttons. I even tried it out in an emulator and wasn't able to rebind it there either.
Which tools? I never really had an issue with binds so maybe I can help you out.
@JackDuckGoose The use tool button and rotate tool button are both bound to X by default. So whenever I press X to use a tool it just rotates my inventory to the next tool or item. Am I doing something wrong?
@@sky-chau Ahhh gotcha. The inventory cycling should be bound to the C stick. When I mapped my controller, I use a Xbox wireless controller and have the c stick mapped to my right stick.
Have I watched all of the previous videos? Yes. Am I still going to watch this one? Also yes.

Not sure if you’ll see this but can you give me any advice on catching the squid prince? I’m on year one summer and have an iron rod and going back and forth from the island is getting so draining cause I can’t seem to catch it.

Yeah! The squid prince is a little special since you can only catch one the day after it rains in the summer. There are some people online that say it can be after a typhoon, but I've never been able to catch one outside of the day after a rain.

Looking back, the graphics and gameplay are pretty good for its time. Maybe even better than a lot of modern games.
Magical Melody really does have a charm to it that some modern titles seam to lack. For me, I feel like most modern games all look the same or are all trying to pander to the same audience. MM really is out there comparatively lol
I played this for so long. Very nostalgic, but there were multiple years that I needed to collect all noted before getting married lol 😅
It took me about 2 and a half years to get all the notes, the long part was befriending every villager and animal lol
Harvest Moon Magical Melody was my first game from the franchise. It wasnt even mine but the game from my friends sister. But I loved playing it. I hope they remake it and giving us a way to play it, it would be even fun when the remakes tropyhs (For Playstation or Xbox) could be the amount of Melodys...😂

I played this game on the wii as a kid with my brother! We never figured out how to get the villagers to stop leaving which was frustrating
My understanding of the "vacation" mechanic is that the villagers leave when you stop shipping certain items, i.e. eggs and milk for Carl, Gems and ores for Tim, etc. Kinda stupid but it adds a layer of difficulty if you want to befriend them all lol
you wanna know the WORST thing? Harvest Moon MM's weird glitch we still cant figure out the reasoning for (last i checked). Sometimes, the game will stutter and give you the max amount of money, about 99,999,999 if i recall. Now imagine trying to 100% the game after having gotten that glitch only to realize you hadn't gotten the poor note yet....
...i havent returned to that old save in over a decade.....orz
LMAO that's painful. I remember looking up a glitch where you use a tool inside your house and gives you money, but that's crazy!
God MM was such a trial! I wasn't strong enough for it as a kid, but this made me want to replay.

@@marcospbd8 Honestly, #1) Thanks so much! It means a lot that you would go back to a video like that and take note. and #2) I found that as I got more and more into it, the art became a non-factor. I definitely still prefer the AWL art design, but I can confidently say I don't actively dislike Magical Melody's. It has some charm too it now lol
I always loved this game out of all the HM games. It just feels easier and more relaxing than others to play. I tried one newer one from Steam a while ago, but it just didn't click....
If you're playing Harvest Moon games like Winds of Anthos or One world, those are made by a different developer than older harvest moon games. The guys and girls who make Story of Seasons are the same people who made Magical Melody, Friends of Mineral Town, etc.

i loved this game so much. i only had the wii version, though, and that one only let you play as a boy. i have no idea why. also throwback to when i accidentally deleted my save :,)

This is probably one of my most favorite Harvest Moon games, next to the SNES version. I really liked the property buying system and wished it made a return.

Honestly. The fact thats its hard to 100% is the reason this game is so good for me. I've never been able to do it. But I have extremly fond memories of playing it. Thats the only harvest moons game I spent that much time playing.... and i've speedrun another wonderful life on gbc xD

Yes sir, or ma'am. Magical Melody has a rival farm mechanic where you can track how much better, or worse, you are than Jamie in terms of shipping items lol. You can also marry them but that just ends the game lol

Oh man magical melody was my favorite as a kid, I remember loving the open worldness of it and the art style is so iconic. Nearly 20 years later and I discovered an infinite money glitch that got me back into it. Much easier to 100% it now.

the most a tuna has ever been sold for is actually only about 800k so it wouldn't be several million (its price is also based on size and the ones in this game seem small so it's probably only worth maybe $200)
