❤️ Have you used any fabric spray paint on your cushions, couches, etc? Or have you been wanting to? Let me know how it turned out for you and what product you used!
@Syreeta Allen I’m going to try this thank you!
@Syreeta Allen so you use regular satin spray paint on fabric? Is there a certain way you prep it so it doesn’t crack later?
@Syreeta Allen Thanks for the tip I am totally trying this👍
@Syreeta Allen Hi sorry to bother u, quick question I’m getting ready to spray paint my outdoor cushions. Just wanted to make sure I get it right. Do I have to spray with rustoleum satin paint first after the dye color from rustoleum. Sorry it’s my first time doing this. I’ve looked around for the cushions and are very pricy and called around to get them upholster & it’s even pricier. I’m better off buying a brand new patio set
@Syreeta Allen thank you! I was just going to ask if regular paint would work. I will try your suggestion
When using any spray paint you should do long even strokes, not that shaky back and forth thing you were doing. That likely caused all of those splotches.
Thankfully I read this before starting just now, I would have been shaking like a salt shaker if not
Thank you for showing an alternative to painting! I’d love to do a pillow paint project, but it does seem more cost-effective to just buy the slip covers! Love both ideas! ❤️❤️
You are so welcome!
I think this is perfect for my project. I have some faded cushions, but would be rather expensive to replace. Thank you.
Thank you for not being afraid to show a "bust" video. You probably saved me some $$ in the future 🤪
Your video help me on my decision, ty!
On 2 lounge cushions I used regular rustoleum paint (teal). It covered pretty good but was a little stiff. But they repel water now and still look good. Their in the yard all the time. I have purchased 2 cans of fabric paint haven't used it though really not the color I want.
Thanks for the review of the fabric paint. I thought it was too pricey too but definitely a bit surprised one can didn’t cover all four pillows. I am going to make my own fabric paint/. You can spray your chairs with the regular spray paint to refresh your chairs..it works well and 2 cans should cover your 4 chairs (much cheaper than their fabric paint too. Enjoy you lovey sitting area :)
Maakingyourown pillow covers is super easy and cost effective!
I just did a 48" long linen bench with the Rustoleum and it came out really nice and was really easy. However it did require 2 cans. The advantage with the Rustoleum approach is you don't need to use water or sealer on the fabric. It all depends on the project size and how much time/money is worth investing. I can't see myself doing a whole sofa with printed patters to cover with Rustoleum.
Thanks for the video
I was going to refurbish with paint, but it is really expensive. You helped me think about other options . Lovesong writer.
You can use acrylic paint then cover with modge podge. Use coupon at micheals. You can even add glitter.
Thanks for informing us I love the Amazon cases
You're welcome! And yes, I do too! :)
Great video. I'm wondering if you had hung the pillow somehow so you could hold the paint can upright if you could have more coverage. I just bought a used patio set with 4 full chair cushions. I bet it would be cheaper to replace them. Hard to know. Thanks for the tip.
I thought it was expensive too! Thank you for sharing this. It was helpful
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! 💗
At the beginning I was thinking I wonder how well would the coverage be for the print on my pillows. Now I know. I have the same pillows. :-) They were fairly expensive from Lowe's. I wasn't aware of the outdoor fabric paint, so I bought outdoor pillow covers. Thanks for the DIY.
I prefer the cover option too! Glad this was helpful! :)
My outdoor cushions have some dryroty. I'm hoping the paint will hold it together as well as protect it.
Where did you find pillow and cushion covers?
Hi Valerie, thanks for the videos. I'm looking for a good quality of paints to paint my leather sofa. Would y advise, please!
Does this also help water sealing the pillow?
I took my *filthy* outdoor cushions to the DIY car wash. For $5, I power washed them back to Like New condition, and washed my car at the same time!
Cushions look so good now, I don't even want to paint them anymore!
Good idea!! Now you've got a like new set of cushions! 💕
Did you strap them to your car or do you have a truck?
Make sure you spray them with water proofing again because the water pressure can it break it down.
@@nosirrahm great point. My cushions have held up beautifully now they're clean but I bet the strong water pressure removed the waterproof coating. I have some for my shoes so I will reapply.
@@meganfitzpatrick3380 I transported them while still wet in large clear plastic bins (no lids) in my backseat.
I could have used the shop vac hoses at the car wash to suck the water up.
But they dried pretty quickly, probably like someone else mentioned - they have a water proof coating to protect them from the elements.
Thanks for sharing the process with the spray paint. Looks like the slipcovers will be my best bet. Thanks again.
You're welcome!! :)
I lucked up an found a Dutailier rocking chair and it has white cushions. I figured since it's used for babies that the company knew stains were inevitable, but that's not the case.
Red wine .... don't judge 😂, isn't coming out the ottoman cushion so I want to paint them all gold. I can't wait to see the finished piece
Yess! Let me know how it turns out! 💕
How many cans of spray
Rit makes a dye "lifter" (I'm not sure what it's really called because I've misplaced mine🙁) and I would definitely use that first if I decide on this. However, it said it may not always get rid of patterns in fabric if I remember correctly.
RIT is total garbage, I do not recommend.
$32.99 per can in Canada!!
If you plan on doing this, and your pillows have a pattern or is dark in colour, It suggests on the can that you should buy a can of Grey colour to PRIME first! Then apply your choice of colour. This way will ensure a excellent coverage. But it’s just too expensive to do, probably better to buy covers.
Totally agree!
was the fabric still soft to the touch afterwards?
It still kept that “outdoor pillow feel” not a bad product, just a little pricey to complete a big project (in my opinion).
I think u need to use the same color of the fabric...its just for touch up
I brought 3 cans of the grey and it did not work
I found some pillow covers on amazon for 4 for $12 and they have all sorts of holiday themes and colors. I change them up seasonally. They are great. They are not out door ones though. But for that price I don’t mind getting new ones every year. Thanks for sharing
Hey Kris! Yeah, for that price you might as well just get new ones when you need them! 💖
Takes a several cans to cover. One can is over 11.00. Not so sure it is a better option. I decided to just go buy new cushions.
If you hold the can and upright position you will not experience clogging
I used this on my patio umbrella and it turned out like crap. Time to buy a replacement canopy.
This is the second video I have seen about this paint and why isn't an undercoat used just like anyone would use to paint anything else when painting something with a design. First the primer then the paint, first the white coat then the color, first use sand then you prime. I have not been able to come across this fabric paint. Does it say anything about covering print, etcetera? VHH
They don’t make primer for this specific fabric paint. I actually haven’t seen this product on shelves lately. Not sure if it’s more of a seasonal product or if they pulled it. 🤷🏼♀️
@@ValerieAguiar Good day. I found a vid where the people did use the Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Primer before they painted their cushions. I did not look to see the date on this so could be awhile ago because it was $2 cheaper. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/Tqtr37aabkA/v-deo.html. I will keep an eye out. Have a great on and stay safe. VHH
Good to know! Thanks for sharing! 😉
I have a question....How do they FEEL? Are they sticky once painted & dried? I have about 16 cushions I need to do something with bc they are faded. I thought about RIT dye? Hmm
I have the same question. I know there is a process you can do with the dye.
Same question here!!!
Well, which one of us are gonna try the Dye? I may do it. I’m just so scared I’m gonna mess them all up. lol
@@vickiewright146 I'm game. I want to paint my blue settee red 😬.
@@rosalynmartin519 yes that’s actually the color I’m wanting to do too! Blue.
Came here for the paint review because I’m trying to paint a cushion for an outdoor loveseat I bought off marketplace and realized your chairs must be from the matching set! Do you mind me asking where you bought them from or what brand they were? I’d love to find the chairs to match my loveseat
They're actually from Target from about maybe 7-8 years ago or so? My mom handed them down to me, but I know they are from Target!
When spray painting slow Long strokes.
Amazon has covers 2 for $10
I’m looking to change the color of the inside of my Rv ... there is fabric everywhere and it’s super ugly ... looks like painting is gonna be super expensive
You can also use Rit dye ....works great!
Can you use this on ordinary fabric so you can use the pillows outside?
I’m not sure, my pillows were for outdoor use. But now you’ve got me thinking! 😁
@@ValerieAguiar 😂if you go for it, let me know!!!
Your suppose to hold the can straight up and down
Lol your home depo is different it’s only 3 .99 here in Memphis
Good ‘ol California 🥴 TN is on my “to visit” list!😍
15 bucks a can in Maine
$24 in Canada
Agreed. Way overpriced.
Recommend using chalk paint, mix that with a fabric medium, some water, and fabric softner. Use it more as he dye with about five coats sanding in between with a 400 grit sanding sponge
This paint is a bust. Ruined a cushion. Will now by a cover. Ridiculous poor coverage. I've one can on one cushion and there is NO WAY to get an even coat/finish. So bummed.
Hi Lisa! I agree! I was disappointed as well... which is why I bought covers! Worked out so much better! 💕
I tried Rust oleum fabric paint today and it didn’t work at all. Had to do a fairly thick first coat to even see it a bit. Cushion is now splotchy and not soft at all. I am now having new cushion covers made. I paid 25$ for the can of paint, biggest waste ever.
