Chris, tell Shaun, I Love Love Love this desk. I also enjoy you and Shaun sharing your ideas back and forth so freely. I'm looking forward to your next collaboration. Thanks for sharing.
I go through these comments too, so Chris doesn't even have to relay the message. Thanks Felix! Really appreciate your support, and glad you are digging the work we are doing. It means a lot!
I love that you two are working together! It wasn't until about the 9 minute mark that I put two and two together and realized you were going to come back to Chris after leaving him with the cardboard cutout! Classic. I'm sure the two of you will find some creative way to use that cutout in future videos!
Awesome build Shaun... this one was a real treat to watch. I'm glad you decided to mount the draw slides on the angle, instead of putting in an upright.
Love the project. I built a minimalist oak desk measured to fit my daughter for a graduation gift 10 years ago. It needed removeable the legs. A first for me. The legs were 2 sided tappers. A first for me. It also needed two draws. Another first for me. I built it with wood channels coated with beeswax, to allow the "wood on wood contact" to slide easily. This dest you are building looks like something for my office. I'm going to give it a go.
Just listening to the Modern Maker podcast and your comments about this build video. Just wanted to share I'm glad Shaun is on this. I think the collaboration is going to lead to way better content. Thanks for all you do.
Really appreciate it, Craig! Like Chris said, it is a very small minority that has responded with anything less than positive comments, but it really means a lot for people to let us know they are on board and enjoying what we are doing. Thanks!
Rediculous how easy you guys make this seem.. Incredible results. Looking to start making small projects to hone my skills and the help that these vids provide on how to achieve different things with small changes to the norm is inspiring. Thanks.
@@Foureyes.Furniture Yours is great too, but this one... I mean wow. I would love to see other matching pieces. It has that perfect bevel cut we have talked about. I need a chair that goes with it in the same style, coffee table, book case, all the furniture.
Gorgeous and so happy you two are working together. You're collective aesthetic and sense of humor really complement each other and I love that you're true to your style.
That's a WOW! It's a fine piece of furniture. Easy to watch while you're doing it, but I know it's hard to make. I like the technique that you made on the table top to flatten them on the jointer and thickness planer. Thanks for sharing.
Gents, I knew you could make a better desk. This is an incredible amalgamation of your art! A video with workarounds from shop limitations that many will appreciate. Oh man, just hit my first commercial. “nods” I appreciate your work, not only of your craft but also what it takes to share your craft. I get the grind (youtube) or so I have been shown. Regardless, keep at it, you have things to share with people.
Man, I love this design! One of my favorite parts is when you were using the playing cards to space out the drawer fronts, and then just opened the drawer, spilling them everywhere. Great video, Shaun!
OK, I have to admit, I come to Four Eyes for the music. ..... OK, fine, the craftsmanship is pretty good too. j/k the craftsmanship from both Chris and Saun are top notch.
I envy you guys for your almost effortless glue joints. Whenever I try to glue up something no matter how good I try to clean up squeezeout with water and scrapers it always looks ugly after clearcoating on some parts of my work. I hate it. This is a pretty table though! Cheers!
Yeah, dealing with squeeze out can be a pain. I usually go with letting it sit for about 20-30 minutes then coming back with a dull chisel and cleaning it up with that. No water, and usually not much of a mess. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoy your builds Chris and you're a funny guy too. How is the desk top attached? My guess is you have threaded inserts in the underside of the desk top and probably also the same insets in the two riser strips that screw in from each drawer cabinet.
Shaun Boyd Are you sure that was a live version of Chris on the other end? Perhaps he just set a monitor in front of his camera and played a pre-recorded monologue on Bad Larry & Big Macs?
Haha, sorry about that! I have been meaning to get a new video up and tell everyone over on my channel, but Chris has me burning the midnight oil! Thanks for finding me over here!
What type of undermount slides are you using? And what do you need to differently (dimensionally) for the drawer boxes? I can’t figure out where to source hardware for this...
Thanks Scott! Yeah I know, I fully intended to shoot attaching the top and get it in there, then just totally forgot as I was hustling to finish the edit, whoops! But to answer your question, the risers are just screwed to the cabinets from below, then the top is attached with brass tabs and threaded inserts to allow for seasonal movement. Nothing too fancy.
Nice work as ever Shaun. Not sure how this colaberation thing is going to work out but I wish you both the best moving forward. I think maybe it would be helpful to those who are confused if you guys actually gave your adoring public a more detailed explanation of what we can expect moving forward??? Anyway you both have much to offer your subscribers but I would like to say to all those who have made slightly unflattering remarks about Shaun in the comments let me tell you as a professional cabinet maker of 40 years Chris is a decent, honest and entertaining guy who has, in my eyes a good eye for design but if it was my money I was spending on a piece of furniture I'd want Shaun to build it, IMHO the infinately better woodworker.
Thanks Richard! We are definitely realizing we need to be a little more explanatory about what we are hoping to do with this new partnership, so we will definitely be taking your advice. And I appreciate your kind words about my work. I have always struggled with being confident in my skills, so it is nice to hear it from someone I could certainly learn a few things from.
Shaun, all I could teach you is how to fix mistakes because i've made more than you. I do have one plea, and yes I do appreciate you guys are in this to make some money. I will endure the toe curling plug in every video for some crap or other (sorry valued sponsor) but please tell me you won't suddenly start using random bits of kit so the company's that have given you this kit get their airtime. One thing that made me realise you were a bit different was when you mentioned you don't own a mitre saw. By all means use what is appropriate but not just because it's there, be faithful to your roots. Oh and please tell me we will still be seeing things like the "One cup of Coffee Table". Sorry one more plea, don't descend into the bearpit that thinks woodworking is about buying $10,000 of tools to make. . . . . . . . . . . .shop fixtures.
