Great video. Can u put this down after weed&feed?
Of all the law care dudes you by far offer the best scientific detail of lawn care. With that said IMO you make a solid case here for steering away from synthetic sources of N in favor of feeding the N cycle. I’ve seen the studies where the traditional 4lbs of N per year is overrated because getting the soil microbes working significantly reduces the amount of N you should supply especially if you are leaving grass cuttings on the lawn.
I personally switched to Microlife out of Texas because their organic line specifically builds soil which in turn builds healthy turf.
I coupled the microlife with my own bio stimulation of kelp, Humic, and compost tea and the turf quality is amazing.
Once you allow the soil microbes to thrive fertilizers are irrelevant. I have not fertilized at all this year after a fall application last year of microlife. All I’ve done is liquid kelp, humic, and compost tea and my TTTF is healthy and green through high heat so far this year
You are hitting on such great information here but still skirting the key which is without organic content and a good carbon source you are going to constantly need to feed N to keep the system going. If you feed the system correctly synthetic fertilizers are irrelevant
Remember typical NPK fertilizers were developed for crappy lifeless soils on golf courses where the turf has to be managed. Do I want that scenario for my home where I have to feed a crack addict because I’ve allowed a poor soil condition? No! Develop the soil microbes and the game gets easy very fast and you have $ left in the wallet
Thank you great information
best fertilizer i've ever used. I have bermuda and it works great.
Matt, curious about your thoughts now on the Screamin' Green that you ran this year. Those spring results looked impressive.
Ohhh, niiiice lawn.
Not explained, but referenced in this video, is the acronym "PCSCU". What the heck is this, and why is it listed separately from "urea" in this video? PCSCU stands for "polymer-coated sulfur-coated urea". Prior to this technology, sulfur-coated urea was a method that surrounded the urea with sulfur and then wax. Water then moves in, slowly dissolving the wax and sulfur, resulting in the "slow release" of the nitrogen (N) containing urea. PCSCU advanced this, by inverting the coatings: One fertilizer manufacturer coats the urea with a thin layer of polymer, then sulfur, followed by wax. The sulfur is intended to protect the ultra-thin polymer (chains containing the N), which helps to regulate nitrogen release via diffusion. The benefit, claimed by one of the manufacturers, is that PCSCU nutrients are released more consistently, and over a longer time, than traditional SCUs. So, PCSCU is a method of encapsulating the urea (PCSCU and urea aren't really two means of delivering N, but rather one means). I don't know if it is easy to tell the difference in the effects on my lawn of using a PCSCU fertilizer v. a SCU fertilizer, but Matt sure has proof of some great-looking results in his lawn.
I tend to have more consistent duration from PCSCU, likely bc of the two part protection. But at the end of the day, it's still urea. I'm not sure you'll see a tremendous difference in terms of color, but likely managing follow up applications or "boosters" of iron, etc. My one main issue with polymer coatings is the deposit of micro-plastics or vinyls into our soils. That bothers me when there are alternative methods.
Yes it’s expensive per 1,000 but the results are fantastic. I put it on fescue, St. Augustine and Bermuda (just a few yards)
Awesome video like always Matt this year you will explode this channel just Watch
Orbin Guerra thank you sir!
Matt, are you still a fan of SG since this video? Or has something replaced it?
Another great video Matt.
If you don't mind me asking...
1- How much actual N per 1000 square feet or how much weight of total product per 1000 square feet did you apply on your first run?
2- When do you plan to make your second and subsequent runs this season?
3- How much actual N or pounds of product do you plan to apply per run going forward?
Thanks again Matt. Trying to keep up.
Rob
Looks like they recommend 4.4 - 5.6 pounds of product per 1000 square feet.
+Rob Hawkins I'm applying .8lbs N/1000 (5lbs product/k)
I'm going .64lbs next app (starting round 2 on Monday)
Then using another product of their's, dynamic duo, at 10 lbs product per k.
Then fungicides
Thank you Matt.
Is this made by clarus ?
Coen Neuhold it is
Wish you had left a link as to where to buy screaming green!
nice I been applying sop not mop!
Grass Daddy much lower salt index. superior product!
Good video and information. Can you clarify the 10-15 lbs of organic matter per year: is this a supplement product you're putting down? I see from the SG analysis label the recommended rate delivers 1.75 lbs OM over 1000 ft^2. At 3 applications/yr for fescue, that yields 5.25 lbs OM total. Thanks
+Jeff B. To hit that 10-15 lbs, you can apply their dynamic duo (delivers 100% OM). I think scientifically the goal is to reach a certain amount of carbon so that 10-15 lbs of OM is likely 2-5lbs of carbon. Carbon can be applied through products like "bio char" and humic acid
Thx. Dynamic duo can be applied periodically throughout the year? I need to read the label but figured I'd ask in the thread so others can view
+Jeff B. Yes, or applied all in one application
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the results so far now that it's almost July 4th. I bought my first bag today. Would you apply the 16-2-3 a couple times a year? Cool season grass here in northern Indiana.
i'm applying screaming green in northern indiana and we're on our 2nd time around with it and its the best stuff we've ever used. incredible results so far
Rob Wright did you go with Screamin Green, and did you like the results?
DMaster81 still liking Screamin Green?
I switched over to a product last season that is very similar I believe. Milchem by EH Griffith. It utilizes pcscu and milorganite to help tie up some N and curb the flush growth. After 1 full year program I am seeing a significant change in my properties. Longer greenup and less heavy growth (cool season turf). The carbon components of the screamin green does spark my interest though. It's about 30% more expensive than the Lesco products but I figured it's worth it. Plus I plan on going with some of my own control products instead of buying the big names. You turned me to looking into quali pro and others to keep the cost per acre reasonable so I'll be saving on that end. Here's to a great 2017 season!
+Velvethamma that sounds like a super similar product. I'm do pumped to be going out with it. Kill it this year!
How are you applying the 10-15 lbs organic matter? Dynamic duo?
Did you use this before knowing about RGS?
FYI called site one screamin green was 36.99 a bag ?
damn, i dont know if we got a special deal or what but i saw the invoice when they delivered to our company and it was 16 or 17 per bag and we bought 3 ton. i dont know if its that price if you only buy a few or what
key word company...retail price i got 2 bags with tax was 79.01 going to use it on my front only i get 2 apps per bag at 5lb sper k
Hey Matt I'm also switching from Lebanon turf products to the screaming green also I've noticed a significant green up this spring with this product thanks for everything you are awesome
Southern Pride Lawn thanks, brother! I'm loving the SG thus far!
Have you ever used Primo MAXX? Any way to use it without the yellowing of the tips?
Emily Burcham I LOVE Primo. I use the generic T-Nex often. you can spray it with a little iron or AMS and it will keep the yellowing down. or you can do a reduced rate in split apps
Awesome, I have a few questions so I shot you an email.
What about Dr earth. Grass spray? On. Zorro zoysia lawn newly installed
CC CC I'm sure it works fine, but justifying the cost to the result is a whole different issue. Frankly, it's not worth the money for what it actually does or provides in terms of nutrient load and delivery method.

The Grass Factor seems to work better than milo what do u recommend for zoysa zorro grass just to it installed last week
CC CC are you a homeowner or professional?
The Grass Factor trying to be both lol it's for my personal lawn
We're can I buy it
Joseph Collins I bought it from my local SiteOne
How did you make out with this product? I'm looking to create a hybrid organic program including RGS from Greene County Fertiliser.
I had trouble with the pricing/results ratio. I had good results, but not results that justified the price. Check the latest video I put out. In part two, I'll be comparing the two side by side. spoiler: SG didn't win.
The Grass Factor I’m assuming CarbonX is a superior product to Screamin Green, perhaps at a better price point?
Hey Matt. What post emergent herbicide would you recommend to get rid of creeping oxalis out of kikuyu/Bermuda (couch grass where I'm from)? I've heard metsulfuron can be useful. I've used fluoroxypyr, clopyralid and MCPA (not together) before and it curled it up a little but did not completely eradicate it. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Pete from Australia
+Rob Smith hey pete, I honestly don't know anything about kikuyu and herbicide tolerance. Ester formulated fluoroxypyr should smoke it. A follow up application my be required. If youre not getting good control, try a crop oil for surfactant. Oxalis is a tough one. Metsulfuron is extremely slow, but with a MCPA or 2,4-d kicker, it should speed up the knock down.
Hey; a local vendor carries BCF 16-2-3 45%UFLEXX 2FE BIOSO will this be comparable to Screamin’ Green
+San Antonio Lawn Mowing yep! Sounds like a good product
The Grass Factor thank you... I’m learning so much
