Horror movies have a very wide selection of sub-genres that all seek to arouse fear in its viewers such as; Psychological, Torture, Possession, Zombie, Vampires, Supernatural & Slashers. I could go on, but with so many big-budget low-quality movies and low budget high-quality films. It makes determining what’s the greatest movies, and what’s a complete waste of time a very difficult task. So the conditions for this list will consist of a selection of horror films that didn’t necessarily create their sub-genre but helped define it by bringing something new to it.
1 A Nightmare on Elm Street
2 The Evil Dead
3 The Thing
4 Dawn of the dead
5 The Fly
6 Halloween
7 Black Christmas
8 I Saw the Devil
9 Poltergeist
10 Videodrome
11 Scream
12 Suspiria
13 The Orphanage
14 The Exorcist
15 Invasion of the Body Snatchers
16 Psycho
17 An American Werewolf in London

(No particular order!)
'Carrie' (70's)
'Tales From the Crypt'
'Friday the 13th'
'Ghost Story'
'Return of the Living Dead'
'Creepshow'
'Reanimator'
'Fright Night'
'Attack of the Giant Mushroom people' (Sorry... scared the BGs outa me when I was a kid!)
'Night of the Living Dead' ('68)
I've watched all the movies in the list and while i agree with it i would've add more international movies
¿Quién puede matar a un niño? (1976) (Spain)
Village of the Damned (1960)
Let The Right One In (2008) (Sweden)
Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003)
Shutter (2004)
The Changeling (1980)
The Thing from Another World (1951)
The Wicker Man (1973)
Ils (2006)
Ich seh ich seh (2014)
Btw, i've first watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) when i was 12 and it left me traumatized, i was really scared to fall asleep and that ending...still scary
@@JohannaWolkenkind Thanks for also qualifying your flics with the year of release! Original Wickerman is a classic! Where as the Nick Cage version barley ranks as a 'B' Movie!
@Kevin Cooper Please tell me you caught my Bee-Movie pun... My life has so few rewards!
Good video man. I personally think Evil Dead 2 is the best of the Evil Dead Trilogy.
I personally prefer the 2nd one too, but the first is such a weird and unique movie!
Would have loved to see some Psychological Horror films like The Silence of the Lambs, Cure, The Vanishing etc..
I'm saving TsotL's for thrillers - as while it's graphic, I just think it fits in better with that genre.. similar rules apply to 7even.
Great list! Good mix of classics and less well-known movies. I like that you included I Saw the Devil, loved that one.
Yeah, I've only seen that one fairly recently (compared to the others) and I just fell in love with it straight away.
phew! No immediate danger of dying for me. I still haven't seen three or four of those films. ;)
Hmm good point.. I'm making it clear it's ok for me to die now haha. I hadn't thought of that!
Possession (1981), Jacob's Ladder, and Cemetery Man are three of my personal favorites. Love those crazy horror flicks.
Can't say I've seen Cemetery Man- will check it out! Jacob's ladder is kool - I always see it more as a psychological thriller.. but horror makes sense too.
Yeah, Cemetery Man is a very odd mix of horror, romance, with a twisted dark humor of undead occupance. If you are really into psychological thriller movies later revealing itself as a horror, look no further with Possession. That one was a definite, disturbing, and dreadful way to portray inhuman individualism while it slightly delves in a Lovecraftian lore. Sam Neil outdid himself acting in that movie as he spiraled into madness. That was before he starred in (John Carpenter's) In the Mouth of Madness.
It's William Friedkin, not William Friedrickson who made The Exorcist :)
God DAMMIT! lol I kept calling him Fredrickson.. so I changed it to Fr-i-edrik and forgot to add the son part! :-(. You know what this means.. from now on.. I will have people telling me this.. FOREVER!! :-D
Hereditary and rosemary’s baby
Two very solid classics that would have made the list if it was 25-30 :-D.
Hereditary is honestly traumatizing. The only films that haunt me in the same way are The Thing and The Witch. The Witch haunts my fucking dreams.
Hereditary is So Boring And Stupid I Watched The Whole Movie It's Not Scary, Not Disturbing, Not Disgusting it's Just Stupid and Boring.
@@LilSejad watch audition
Great list btw, you've received approval by Great Cthulhu... be proud!
Iam honored oh great old one!
Ringu
Return of the Living Dead
The Wailing (no one likes bc it got mentioned to many time)
Mandy (2018)
Pyewacket (2018)
not my full/fav list..just some recommendations.
Cheers will check them out, Mandy has caught my interest! Return of the living dead is excellent in regards to plot and setup.. the zombies in that are OP. Now I was thinking of adding ringu.. but I honestly think it's stronger as a mystery thriller.. rather than a horror- what do you think?
@@Hyperdriveuk "Return of the Living Dead" gave us "BRAAAAAIIINNSS!!!" as the zombie's goal. It's gone way into popular culture. I know I said that up there, but it bears repeating.
This has to be the best horror list i’ve ever came across with, you have a very good taste in horror movies, i also wish to see Eraserhead and [REC] thought.
Cheers - I was considering REC, if my list was longer it definitely would have come up, I have it in one of my other videos (honestly can't remember which one). Oddly enough I've never considered Eraserhead as a horror.. not sure why- I guess because it's so surreal.
Good list. I like the Honorable Mentions of 'The Conjuring' and 'Hellraiser'.
Could add 'The Descent' and (maybe) 'The Silence of the Lambs'.
I'm saving Silence of the Lambs for another similar video to this one. The Descent, I remember seeing that one in the cinema and finding it pretty freaky- a fine choice!
The thing that really disturbed people about Psycho was that Marion Crane was murdered half way through the film. Until that point in a film a leading actress who was that popular was never killed half way through a film. It was a really shock to film goers at the time.
EXCELLENT titles all, even the honorable mentions! These are the time-honored classic chillers that, even to this day, make you afraid of things that go "bump" in the night!
Glad you liked the selection- any films you would add?
HyperDrive: I can't really think of anything at the moment. You've more or less covered all the bases. My all time favorite will always be "The Exorcist". Oh, yes, of course..."The Silence Of The Lambs"! That's the last movie that TRULY frightened me, to the point where I was LITERALLY squirming in my seat, biting my nails! Again, kudos to you on a great job!
Great list... Others to consider: The Legend of Hell House, Pumpkinhead, In the Mouth of Madness and Argento's Deep Red.
Happy to see The Orphanage, it really is a top shelf film, great acting, amazing mood and atmosphere, and a truly surprising heartbreaking third act. One of the best films of its type. I always recommend it.
I find it strange how not may people bring it up or talk about it (in regards to great horrors). It's one of the best in my opinion.. on first viewing it really spooked me out.
The Orphanage was one of the most suspenseful and eerie films I’ve seen. Excellent plot, great twists, suspense and left me with the creeps long after the movie was over.
Yep top 5 horror for me. One of the only recently made movies that truly creeped me out while at the same time made me sad.. and then happy. A real emotional rollercoaster imo.
I saw 12 out of 20 movies from this list along with these newly released movie and all honourable mention.
I couldn’t think of a more perfect list, you nailed it. Dawn of the Dead/Day of the Dead has always been up in the air for me, I love both equally.
Halloween will always be #1
Cheers, would there be anything you would add. Say if it was a list of 25 movies?
Veronica Cartwright it's in three of these movies! The Birds, Invasion of the body snatchers AND Alien!
Finally someone noticed :-D (after my mispronunciation of Friedkinson)
@@Hyperdriveuk ☺
C4V1AR yeah I noticed that too
Nice list. Would definitely include Rosemary’s Baby & Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My personal fav is House of 1000 Corpses but I understand it doesn’t fit in here.
Yeah I've really tried to get into Rob Zombie flicks.. but his style just doesn't gel with me.. which is unfortunate. I do love Rosemary's baby, I'm a big fan of Polanski's Apartment Trilogy.
The most obscure but influential horror film is Carnival of Souls. Released in 1962, it paved the way for independent horror and influenced filmmakers from George Romero to David Lynch.
Kool will check it out- might add it to my influential list!
I've seen the remake on fearnet back in 2012
this list is awesome
Cheers, any suggestions you could make?
I love all of these (and watched the majority when I was a kid Haha!) A fine round up of the greatest the genre has to offer!!!
Cheers Dave, any films you would add to the list?
@@Hyperdriveuk that's a hell of a list!!! You've covered a lot that I loved as a kid (I was such a horror fan, still am but now I'll watch more of a variety haha!) Texas Chainsaw and The Dead movies (night/dawn/day each has it's own merits) then Silence Of The Lambs, The Grudge, 28 Days Later and Martyrs (a film that has really stuck with me) But your list has all my all time faves, so I really struggled to come up with greats you hadnt already mentioned.
Thanks for including Dario Argento's Suspiria. Have you seen the remake yet? I'd love to hear your interpretation and watch a comparison video on these two.
I dread the idea of what they've done to that masterpiece lol. It's a movie you just can't remake. Will wait till its out on Blu ray. But a comparison would be cool. Working on a few comparison videos. (Then again I'm always working on lots of ideas and not finishing them lol).
@@Hyperdriveuk Tbh I really liked the new version. It was very different and had some pretty bad moments and plot holes but the dramatic/theatrical way of portraying this very dreamy/nightmarish story, the music (Thom Yorke yay) and a great cast (Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson stole my heart) mesmerised me in a way. It lacked Argento's usage of bright colors, which I loved in the original but found a different way to paint emotions with dim light and grey environment. You can't make a better version than the original and I'm glad they changed the story, creating a whole new experience.
Ok I will definitely check it out. I Am curious to see how they compensate for the colour and sound- what directions they take and how cheesy and over the top are the witches?
@@Hyperdriveuk I won't spoil anything here but be prepared for an intense experience :D
@@Hyperdriveuk i would some comparison videos; original to remake and/or book to to film.
A very good selection there, in most I would agree. In part where I don't its only because I have not seen them, albeit a few.
Well..... not all of these would make my list. There are some I like that were not mentioned at all. I do enjoy seeing other people's ideas though 🎥🎬🎹🎶 I also like scary score in movies .....adds to the drama👀
A Wes Craven movie that I will never forget is the hills have eyes. The original one from the 80s. The remake was also good. I also loved the fog once again the original version. Great list. I've seen most of them.
Too True about 70's 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' being on the +side of the remake phenomenon! When I was a kid, bunch of my friends saw it in the theaters, while I saw the original on Creature Feature & we had a SEMINAR on the merits of each!
Yes they're both strong movies- haven't seen the original in some time, might make a recommendation of classic monster movies.
Hyperdrive...my list of horror favs almost looks like this. Excellent choices. My fav horrors of all time are Halloween, The Thing, Suspiria, The Exorcist and The Shinning so it was great to see them here. Just one thing though. I'd take out The Orphange and I saw the Devil and replace with The Others and Don't Look Now. I saw the Devil belongs on many top lists. Its one of my favourite films, but not on a horror list. Just my opinion of course.
I was very 50:50 on I saw the Devil as it really isn't a conventional horror- especially compared to the texas chainsaw massacre or something similar. But I thought it would be a nice change. Don't look now was on my list, I was very tempted to put it on.. but can't remember why I didn't. There's quite a few I love but just couldn't bring myself to put in. (fright night + lost boys for example)
Shout out from Morristown, Tennessee home of The Evil Dead!
Great list, but I will say I've always found the birds to be hilarious. I love hitchcock but not the birds
Never been a fan of horror but I'll check some out
Hi If you feel like an interesting horror movie try the 1986 April Fools Day..... there is a nice surprise ending😁 .....by the way is dated to the 80's . The original Halloween(1978) is a classic. One of my favorites is *Final Girls* 2015 it is not everyone's taste but I am not like everyone. Hope you enjoy your search 😊
I've seen all of these except one and most of them are my favourite films. Been meaning to watch I saw the devil but havent got around to it. Great list. Most of the best horror movies came out in the 70's and 80's as far as i am concerned.
Jason Billett You are my twin brother, i've seen 19 movies from this list except "i saw the devil". Strange :)
It's great - a must see movie for sure, check it out if you get the chance.
Recently saw bodysnatchers and hellraiser. Man, those were good.
Agree with this list almost 100%! Minor correction - The director of the Exorcist was William Friedkin, not Friedrikson.
I know lol - I made the mistake without noticing it... well until it was already uploaded! Forever haunted by it! haha thanks for watching though!
Fantastic list! But I personally wouldve included Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Eraserhead, Cannibal Holocaust, Ringu, Frankenstein (1931), Last House on the Left (1972), Eyes of Fire, The Innocents, To The Devil a Daughter, Fright Night (1982), Audition, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre
You have a few of my personal favs in there, nice! I guess I will have to make another type of video better suited for Henry and Easerhead.. not sure what type though.. any suggestions?
Oh and I forgot one of my favorites, Jacob's Labber which is an absolute masterpiece of grim insane cinema and its pretty original! I know there are horror sub-genres like slashers, zombie, and supernatural but what subgenre would movies like Henry, Eraderhead, Jacob's Ladder, and Martyrs fall into? I guess distrubing movies? I''d love to see that list, man
I consider myself a horror fan. And although I havent seen all of the films on this list, I would like to recommend Satoshi Kon’s animated psychological drama Perfect Blue. Yes, it is animated and no, it is not a straight up horror. But if you ask me, that movie has pretty scary implications. Think about it as an horror under the same light as Get Out. So if you can get yourself immersed into an animated film, definitely check it out.
Coincedently I was watching some of the late and great Satoshi Kon's work earlier this week for my next video. Perfect Blue (haven't seen it in ages) is a great movie and normally I would suggest something like that but I was aiming for a more generic video this month. However I will be doing more anime friendly content in the near future.
Bit extreme title, nonetheless, good list 👌🏻
LoL yeah I was experimenting at the time.
Great list mate but I would also add ''Peeping Tom'' to this list - such an underrated film
Cheers for the recommendation will check it out.
Unfortunately I've seen them all except orphanage. Hellraiser 1 should be on the main list. Looking forward to suspiria remake
You haven't seen The Orphanage? You're missing out on a treat! Everyone knows that Hellraiser 7: Deader is the best ;-)
The Orphanage is really really good. You will dig it.
Only major one I'd add is The Descent. One of the best horror films of all time. And then personally, for the movie that scarred me growing up, I'd add in The Grudge or Ju-On. Even though I know it wasn't the scariest movie of all time, some of those scenes genuinely leave me creeped out even as an adult. Still occasionally have troubles being in the dark because of it.
I'm quite surprised Hellraiser, freaks or re - animator isn't on this list! Wes craven coined Clive barker as a vision of modern horror going forward, freaks is probably one of the earliest incarnations of movie telling exploitation (and probably contains one of the most chilling twists at the end of a horror old or new) and re - animator pretty much kickstarted body - manipulation horror in the 80's (rumour has it that the creator of the Guinea pig series was influenced by it, weirdly enough!) but other than that, a stellar list!
Edit: yep, I just saw Hellraiser as an honorable mention after I submitted my comment, so disregard that one lol!
Yeah I do love re-animator and most of Stuart Gordon's work (yes that includes fortress). But I don't know.. maybe I should have made it 25 movies.. lol
If you do make an extended list then potentially from beyond could slip in, the void as an honorable mention, and maybe even mark of the devil (a pretty grim film for 1970!) The exorcist 3....probably the most under - rated horror there is! If it wasn't tied to the exorcist moniker after the release of the awful exorcist 2 heretic, then it would be considered pretty groundbreaking in some ways as a standalone film in the genre!
I haven't' seen the exorcist 3, one of those films you think.. a 3rd one.. oh come on. Ok will give it a try. Yeah Mark of the devil is a pretty solid contender. I'd say these are movies are for true film buffs- which is why I made my channel I guess lol.
The exorcist 3 recieved scathing criticism upon release, but as it strays from the first into its own little subplot, I feel that alot of people viewed it without an open mind! Comparing it to the first was never going to give good feedback, but overtime viewers learned to extrapolate different aspects to the film which really separates from other horrors! Shame the direction and premise it followed went over most people's heads!
7:12 The name of the director of The Exorcist is not Friedriksen.... it's Friedkin. Not a huge fan of the Orphanage myself, but tastes differ.
Overall, pretty great list.
I've seen all but 4 of these, will get the rest down asap
I love suspiria! Huge Argento fan
So, I guess, I can die in piece now.
lol! Yes, yes you can!
I was wondering if Ringu was going to be mentioned, and while it only got an 'honourable mention' because it didn't make the cut (in your opinion), I was curious as to what element let it down.
Needless to say, it was one of my favourites, particularly the 'video' contents.
I see it more as a mystery thriller rather than a horror. After watching all these films back to back.. I just found the horror element came in 2nd place to the thriller/mystery. When I make a thrillers you must see before you die, it's 100% going in.
@@Hyperdriveuk Makes sense. It was not a violent film like most of the others in the list.
+HyperDrive Since I put Thriller movies above Horror movies .....looking forward to seeing your thriller list 🎥🎬..... by the way does a movie's score 🎶🎹matter much to you. Do you have a movie list with your favorite scores ?
Great question, yes film score is paramount- sometimes I will just watch a movie for its OST. I don't have a list for something like that, but I want too.. that and make a video on it's importance and how modern movies suck at it. Everyframeapainting did an excellent video on a similar topic.
+HyperDrive I will watch a movie to listen to the score to .....a lot of times hearing a score build up makes me look forward to the scene coming up. The movies don't have to be scary but in scary movies I agree .....score is paramount. I have noticed in Netflix their t.v. series even have great score😁👀🎶🎹. Thanks for your input.
Antartica winter 1982
Great list, except Jaws should be on there :)
Good list ...don't forget Black Christmas.
Fuckin’ Eh!! All my favorite movies and giving a proper good call Sir!👍
What if I die before I manage to watch them all though? 😐
Need to check out if you haven't already The Innocents 1961 with Deborah Kerr, based on the turn of the screw. One of the best too. 4 stars. :)
4:14 cool line
I love a lot of these movies!!
Glad you like them, any more you would add?
HyperDrive Day of the dead and Re-Animator i guess would be some good ones :))
Yes! Re-animator is fantastic and ofc day of the dead is another classic.
Original Candyman fo sho
I thought I’d be seen them all, but nope. I can continue living thanks to Videodrome and The Orphanage, though I’ve always thought I’d get around to it. And, yes. The Thing and Body Snatchers are better than the originals.
0:38 what movie is that?
The howling 1981- a pretty solid horror if you ask me.
Great picks overall. I’ve never cared much for The Fly, but everybody else is.
The Fly is why my mom no longer watches any horror. it scared her so well.
YOU FORGOT ABOUT NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD
The dream child! I would so pick Dream Warriors before that one!
Is it just me but too much gore just reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. What about Blair Witch?
The Exorcist. Truly a great comedy and demon training vid for how not to possess the living.
All the most classic scenes make me laugh a lot, but you just have to admire the creativity and effects in that movie.
@@Hyperdriveuk Oh! Don't mistake me. Von Sydow is my favorite part! Great channel. Always enjoy your content.
the original film IT should have made your list
Why? What makes it a to die for movie in your opinion? (just curious)
you forget the nail gun massacre :ddd
I wish Kurt Russel had done more films
Well I have watched almost all of these but 4 so that's good
So watch 3 of them and then you will live forever (in theory ;-))
@@Hyperdriveuk lol I may do just that
I'm struggling for decades to know the title of a movie that has one of the most horrific scenes ever.
Does anyone know about a movie in which at some point a man stabs a women's face with an axe in slow motion while chanting some kind of ritual.
It would mean the world, thanks
Where is ..
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Silence of the lambs
Last house on the left
The hills have eyes
Return of the living dead
Friday the 13th
Sleepaway Camp
Some big big misses here.
Not really- Friday the 13th would be completely unnecessary (Halloween). Silence of the lambs is a thriller (saving that for thriller list). Last house on the left is a solid film but not a must see. Return of the living dead is an excellent movie and I'm saving that for another list. I don't rate TCM or Sleepaway camp - my sister would disagree with me on that.. however I just think they're overrated.
I think the only one of these I haven't seen is I saw the devil.
I wouldn't have included "I Saw the Devil". It wasn't very remarkable in my opinion.
The Island of Lost Souls (1932)
Diabolique (1955)
The Night of the Hunter (1955)
Night of the Demon (1958)
The Haunting (1963)
Repulsion (1965)
The original Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1990)
Great list- lots of oldschool classics, might make a pre 1960's list.
HyperDrive Thanks, I’d love to see your list of old school horror classics.🙂
Not even an honorable mention for Friday The 13th
Moviefan 99 it’s not original. Even admitted it copied Halloween
Well Black Christmas and Halloween, in all honesty I couldn't put that one in too.
Don’t matter in the USA Jason is classic. Candy man and pets in the cemetery smh u picked birds and scream ohhh I’m scared 😱
Saw all of them except for The Fly (looks a little too yucky even for me) and I Saw The Devil (it's on my list, though).
Seen em all, now i can die.
It follows
i'm still pissed i went and saw candyman instead of dr giggles when they came out in theaters, what a waste of money😡😡😡😡😞😞🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
A Nightmare on Elm Street 🤗
Wasn't The Exorcist 1974?
I always find dates vary depending on their release date. IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes have some pretty consistent inconsistencies between them.
does that mean if i only watch 19 and never watch the last one i will live forever ;)
Yes.. yes it does.. unfortunately my fate has already been sealed
@@Hyperdriveuk actually i havent seen 2 of them;) so immortality times 2 LOL
I agree Freddy is n1
Black Christmas did not kick start the horror genre Halloween did that black Christmas did establish some cliches but to call it a slasher film would mean you'd have to call Psycho a slasher film and then you'd have to call back a slasher film way back in 1926 the tone feel the pacing of a slasher films not truly established until Halloween if you watch Black Christmas do make sure you watch the original but watch it as a study on the evolution of horror in film not the first Slasher
Black Christmas was the catalyst for the modern slasher horror- the pov style and the idea of a random murder without motive killing for the sake of killing ( + so many of the tropes for the 1st time). I'm sorry I'm finding it hard to read your comment as you have no punctuation... not even a full stop! Black Christmas PRE-dates Halloween, it inspired John Carpenter to make Halloween, and yes it's the original modern slasher. Psycho was the catalyst for modern horror in general and you could call it the 1st slasher.. but it's more of a psychological suspense horror.
Nothing wrong with any of these movies but I feel like you just went for either the obvious mainstream franchises or the horror classics that anyone that likes the genre will know. From a list titled "... you need to watch before you die" I would hope to have at least one movie that I didn't see already, not a list of mostly movies I and any real horror fan has seen at least a dozen times.
I went down the, these are my favs route lol.
@@Hyperdriveuk nothing wrong with that, some of my favs in there too, The Thing for example is my all time favorite movie. It's just the title that didn't really seem to fit the list to me I guess.
Final destination?
Is a fun movie.
Ive seen 15/20 of them
What ones haven't you seen? Any films you would add or take from this list?
texas chainsaw?
Is an ok movie. I know a lot of people love it.. but for me I think it's a little overrated (blasphemy I know, but I have to draw a line somewhere).
How can Nightmare on Elm Street be higher than The Evil Dead??
It's not higher than anything... this isn't a "top 10"
HyperDrive oh so you just numbered them off in the description
HyperDrive hcpjfphsfaospjvsosnvosjvsohsohCogxgOgcogChocgIigxO REEE REEEE REEE
Ya that was for me, so I didn't miss any out LOL. Nothing worse than putting in 19/21 movies in a list of 20.
HyperDrive ShsnJjkaisuuwsysy SMELLy
alfredge hitcock
Ok done what's next?
Hmm Christmas movies.. :-D
Mastapizza
I think "A Quiet Place" is extremely overrated, and extremely annoying because the film constantly ignores its own logic.
letterboxd.com/thefilmslayer/film/a-quiet-place-2018/
It definitely has its flaws which irritated me to no end.. but I did like the premise and the 1st 10 mins.
@@Hyperdriveuk The flaws are MADDENING. Yes, the first ten minutes were decent, but the whole thing goes totally off the rails and the ending is so cheesy you'd think it was from a different movie.
Good point, don't get me started on that ending.. good use of foreshadowing but ya it was extremely cheesy! I'm always cautious around recent horror movies that score higher than 7 on imdb.. they usually piss me off lol.
Omg, stop putting Martyrs in the torture porn genre. It's much more than blood and gore.
Who put Martyrs in the torture porn genre?
HyperDrive My bad, I apologize. I misunderstood the intro while you were naming the different genres. You said torture when the Martyrs clip was shown and I guess I assumed you said torture porn. It my own defense, I'm extremely hard of hearing. I see so many lists and opinions about that movie and 80% of the time they have it classified with other torture porn movies . Anyway, forgive my error and make more disturbing and/or horrific movie lists.
The exorcist sucked, Alien was my favorite.
1) the Blairwitch project
2) the Shining (horror?)
3) Texas chainsaw Massacre
4) the Omen
5) Maniacop III
1) The Conjuring
2) REC
The Blair witch looks like a cannibal holocaust rip off. Overrated. That s just my opinion, of course :)
the real reason "a quiet place" didn't make the list is because it's a terrible movie.
Did you just read my mind? :-D
Dislike The Exorcist.Always find it dull and reactionary piece. The kind of Horror flick that People Who Don't Like Horror Flicks enjoy(i.e.The Omen,Bramstokersfranciscoppla's dracula,Kennethbranagh'smaryshelley'sfrankenstein, etc.
Blair witch , Texas chainsaw, final destination
The Thing sux. Massively overrated.
Why not Night of the Dead (remake)?
Halloween sux. The only acceptable part of the everdying franchise was Part 2.
Black X-mass might be historicaly important, but not a must to watch. And as we are at it, there are better parts of Nightmare on Elm Street too, which is aging rapidly, and turns an empty sock-puppet with more years than a teenager.
The last part of Videodore is where the direction lost from the film. Skip.
Scream is again historicaly important. But would you suggest it as a standalone movie?
Suspiria sux. Independetly from version.
The exorcist can be good at paper, but sux on the screen.
IotBS is BS. A bad, depressive, outdated '70s slock. Try the 90s version.
AAWiL has good practical effects. Does that constitute a movie, or a statue? You decide!
The Birds sucks like Avatar.
The Shining is again overrated as fuck, and has nothing special in the long run.
---------------
Child's Play doesn't make it. the original Hellraiser is mostly 1 effect-scene, there are way better parts in the franchise or take the franchise in general. Candyman sucks, only mentioned here because the remake was coming out. Dunno why mention Ringu, when the american remake was that much better - there are excelent asian horrors, but not Ringu. Saw should easily replace Scream. Carrie is way better than like anything on this list.
Why is "joe biden around kids" not on this list?
Because I didn't put it in :-D.
Rosemary's baby?!?!
Classic, I have it in another one of my lists.. didn't quite make it for this video, but a personal favorite.
