- In this episode, Jerry and Mike discuss proven new crawfish trap technology. For years all traps were the same. The Crayster team changed all of that. If you want to attempt to make your own trap or are wanting to know what features to look for when buying a trap for maximum crawfish yield, then this episode is for you. Enjoy!
You guys have way too much fun. Love the videos!!!!!
Nice thanks for the info. Mike and Jerry.
This is great information on what traps work best. I love my Crayster traps! Can't wait to use them again this summer!
Which ones do you have? Im trying to decide between the cylinder shaped one or the square ones
Great video with a lot of good tips.
I’ve been using a BLACK star trap with no luck at all! Not a single crawfish
I’m gonna order one of those square ones at Amazon.
Thank you guys.
Yet again another great video Guys 👍 😛🎣
I never thought about the black trap being a problem. I figured suspending the bait was a good idea.
Nothing is wrong with the black coated traps I use 8 every year and have to eat every month, what I cant use for fishing...The rice patty traps are the best though, and the fastest.
Just remember Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries crawfish traps requirement has to be 3/4 by 11/16 square, or larger, a three-quarter inch hexagon chicken wire or larger, With a $15 trapping License up for 35 traps Max, Telling the agent you didn't know that will not get you out of a $250 fine
Great video ...
Awesome video. I love making traps and your videos and channel is what inspired me to do so and because of that my family have just as much fun out crawfising as I do.
I can't wait to see you next video as transportation is something I am very interested in but struggled to find a very instructive video on. I live in Las Vegas and Cave Lake in Ely (you did a video there) is 4 hours away and that's where we go trapping. I'd love to transport them home and have a boil with family and friends that cannot make the trip up.
Hi Chris, I loved cave lake, great memories. I am super glad you found our channel and we added to your great family time. Send us some pictures this summer! (Mike)
Can’t wait to bust mine out!! It’s been to long!
I’ve tried my hand at catching them once. I forget the cheap brand I made. But I had to make my own bait box on one side, then added several no-roll sinkers to make sure that the box landed on the bottom so they wouldn’t eat the bait outside the box. Not sure if I had the right bait. I definitely had the wrong location and/or time of year. I was on Kentucky Lake. Anyway. Cool design! Great video!
Thanks for watching, the best bait is oily fish. It is our hack video #1 if you want to check it out.
Crayster just watched hacks 1 and 2. Thanks for the helpful videos.
Great videos. I bought a couple crayster traps a couple of weeks ago. Here in Minnesota, we can’t put them out until April 1st. A very long wait.
Thanks! Have a great time with your new gear. Let us know how you do.
Thanks for the video! please list the traps if they can be found online, that would be also very helpful
You can go to www.procrayster.com to see all of our traps and gear.
Cant wait to hear what you have to say next.
Thanks TJ, transporting crawfish next!
Do you think pillow traps work at lakes?
Not so much, they are more made for shallow swamps. Good luck!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the square trap versus the cylinder trap? I'm going to buy at least one
Good vids, was looking into your traps do you know if they are legal for Washington state?
They are. You do need to make an escape with biodegradable rope. You can see videos from Crayster on that one our Facebook page. Thanks for watching.
@@crayster3926 OK I wathced the vid on facebook. Didnt know how many other states required escape hatches. Been out of the game for a while and cant wait to get after it this year!! have been using some cheap traps but they have issues, definitely like the look of yours !! Thank you !
What’s the best thing to use for bait?
May be a dumb question...On the lake trap the pamphlet that comes with it mentions adjusting the gates?
If the gate gets bent or doesn't swing right, you can bend or adjust them to make them swing freely. They are pretty tough.
how deep were you guys setting your traps?
I was inspired by watching you guys so I got a trap but I didn’t catch much. I know we have a lot in Oregon, do you have any recommendations for good locations or depth?
It's still a little early this year. Things really start picking up in the summer months. We have a new local page on Facebook for Oregon. You will find lots of good info from people in your neck of the woods there. Here is the link, if you are interested. facebook.com/groups/1996713037120505/
We’re in Idaho. What’s the best option for creating the tag required by IDFG?
We are in Idaho Falls, although crawfishing is amazing all over the state. A lot of people are having dog tags made with their info on them, you can also get some cheep long lasting tags off of eBay. Good luck!
Hey guys, I'm looking to buy one of these.
Any where to buy your product in Canada?
Thanks!
We don't sell in Canada because of the outrageous shipping charges over the borer. Sorry
I can I get a link for that trap
www.procrayster.com
Where are you gotta setting you traps ? I’m from AZ and looking for new places to set traps
We were setting these traps in Idaho on this video. Check out the Arizona crawdad hunters with Crayster Facebook page. You will love it, it will give you some great communication on places.
Wait what was wrong with black traps? Why can't you use then during the day?
We have done extensive testing. Black or silver scares them away in the day. New technology, we test and invent all kinds of new crawfishing products.
@@crayster3926 oh ok! Cool I didn't know that! Thanks for replying!
@@crayster3926 I was thinking of spray painted mine tan like the rocks and sand color. Do you think the crawfish can smell paint?
@@davper8619 they can smell fish, or chicken really well, so I bet they could smell paint! Idk if that would matter to them or not tho
What boat is this???
im new to this channel what are you drinking crown and coke?
🍻
do you have some dimensions etc for your trap designs?
We really don't, I could measure them. They are patented. But any one can make their own home made trap of any style. Good luck!
@@crayster3926 I see after I asked they were for sale ....very cool.
Where are you guys?
I am from Las Vegas, what are some lakes you recommend I can go for crayfishing?
I am not familiar with Nevada but if you are on Facebook you can goin the Crayster Nevada page, lots of good local info there. Good luck.
How deep do you set your traps?
From 5 to 50 feet.
Lol I'm not paying $89 for a crawfish trap.
Your traps are to expensive
