Art for the sake of art. Just cuz someone is different doesnt mean they are unhappy. Lucy lived the life she wanted...independant of typical expectations.
I think that was Jeremy Fish's work at the end. Aesop has long been a big fan of Mr. Fish and he did the artwork for the None Shall Pass album. And yes, your interpretation is correct. Just like "Lucy" says at the end... "I've never had a dream in my life, because a dream is what you want to do, but still haven't pursued. I knew what I wanted and did it til it was done. So I've been the dream that I wanted to be from day one!" The point is, she had a deep passion and love for art from a very young age. Knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life and did it. Never concerned with the judgements of others, simply focused on her passion and need to create. The moral of the story is that, sitting around dreaming about what you want out of life won't get you anywhere. You have to go out and do it, or it'll never get done. Peace!
I first stumbled across aes when he released his second album Float in 2000, but really have a lot of very fond, powerful memories of listening to Labor Days and this song specifically. It spoke to me a lot when I was in high school (I’m old lol) so it brings me endless joy watching people get into it now, listen to it, etc. I’ve been going down a Aesop Rock reaction rabbit hole today and it’s just made me smile. It’s like appreciating one of your favorite artists with a friend. Thanks for these uploads.
:-: Ohhhhh I really need to dig into FLOAT for sure.. I'm sure y'all would really love that.. I give reactions just as y'all first listen.. I don't know the world lol but I still Love exploring..
@@iammrwack I love watching you listen to these so much, it’s like remembering how blown away I was when I first started listening to him and how blown away I was at his style because I hadn’t heard anything like it before. I mean, some similar stuff off anticon and Def Jux but Aes was my first window into all that. Sage Francis, Brother Ali, immortal technique, del the funky homosapien, MF doom, people under the stairs, hieroglyphics, atmosphere, etc etc…. But aes is the GOAT Ps, check out Grave Diggaz sometime if you can, some great 90’s rap that had a lot of great rappers in it including RZA. It’s not hip hop, it’s straight easy coast 90’s gangster rap, but that’s also some of the best rap 😉
This whole thing is about Lucy never having dreams because she was living her dream. So at the end when she "died" she didn't die, she woke up from dreaming.
I understand what you mean. Saying the life she lived was a dream and she woke up after death. Type thing.???? I'm trying to explain my thoughts lol anyways I Love this track.
I think that the idea of the song is that you don’t have to live in a way that falls under other people’s expectations of what happiness is in order to live a fulfilling life. She blocked out what other people expected or thought of her, and did what she truly wanted to do. Lucy did Lucy. Forget what other people think and you do you.
Lucy did what she wanted from day one. She drew. She made art. From a child with chalk, traded chalk for charcoal sticks, then arthritis in a care home. Point is: she had no regrets bc she loved her dream of making art from day one
She was an introvert. They are kind of anti social. They don't like to have a lot of people around. Very few friends. Aesop's style reminds me a little of E40.
Came for the Aesop reaction, will be staying for that hair - how the hell 😄 Anyway, great reaction! I feel like Aesop is trying to tell us that you need to live your dream, no matter what. It WAS her dream to be to herself and paint, not to be social. Lucy is basically the person that we "normal" people don't really understand and we think they don't live the life they could have, but actually it's probably the other way around and they are happier than "us". But maybe I'm way off 🤷🏻♂️
:-: 😂😂😂😂😂 Well I'm glad something got you to stay here.. Like Aes said in this track "You can dream a little dream or you can live a little dream, I'll rather live it cause dreamers always chase but never get it" I do believe those that live what they Love are honestly happier individuals even if it means not really being socially active. Mentally they are at one. I wouldn't say you was way off lol.. We all understand things in our own way.
I like that you're deciphering Aes' tracks like this! 🔥 I believe his catalog is full of knowledge, insight and wisdom and I think it should be studied like literature and linguistics. I'd recommend that you listen to "Rings". It kinda ties into this track, in my opinion. Plus it's dope. Also, he sometimes displays his portraiture of the human form on Instagram, I recommend that too. Keep doing good!
So glad you did this one. My all time fave by Aes. The lyrics were a bit off, but not bad. And your reaction after "... she died." You went deep. Dark song, but a positive parable.
This is a beautiful story of living life to the fullest. She was driven to live her life to the fullest. At the end of the day, she blew a kiss and then passed away.
Aes is so great man! Love the old stuff! Labor Days is one of the best albums of all time. No Regrets is just one of so many bangers. The Yes and The Y’all, Battery, and Flashflood just so much grestness.
Licy's dream was to be alone in a quiet place, creating her art. Other people didnt understand and called her weird for it, but Lucy didnt care, because she lived her dream from "day 1" and she died happy, having created all of her masterpieces, for herself.
Lucy is the idealized artist Aes wishes he was. She's entirely content creating her art, the outside world barely concerns her and never bothers her, and when she eventually looses her last connections with the world and even her ability to create and then her life she's satisfied with what she's done. At least that's what I always read into it.

I may have suggested this one. i wanna see "take me to the basement" by aes as well. Also some old school aesop is "same space" also called "tugboat complex 1" keep em coming mr.wack!
This song made me more confident about being an introvert. You ask an average extrovert why introverts spend so much time on their own, they'll almost always describe it as some anti-social mental illness you just have to get over. Like it's pitiful. I've always dreamed of learning psychology (really anything to do with humans). For the past 10 years, I've been cracking away at it constantly, one book at a time. I've chosen chilling with an audiobook over hanging with people more times than I can count. But when I come out of my cave, the few people I spend time with get to enjoy perspectives that others pay money to hear, for free, any time they're puzzled. I think of Lucy when FOMO starts to hit. The thing I fear now is not doing what I feel a calling to do. When I'm 37, or 87, I'm going to be deeply glad I didn't waste time simply dreaming about my passions, but rather spending time on them.
