I absolutely love Manchester - its one of my favourite cities on earth. Im from Melbourne in Australia and a lot of the city reminded me of Melbourne - especially the grand Victorian architecture. No city has influenced the world more than Manchester.
I’m a Mancunian in New Zealand who’s yet to visit Australia. Everyone who describes Melbourne to me makes it sound like Manchester (with more sunshine!)
Hope to visit soon.
What's the saying what Manchester does today the World does tomorrow 😊😊😅
Manchester was where the industrial revolution that created the
modern world started. The goods made or manufactured were exported around the globe. London financed it all.
"No city has influenced the world more than Manchester." I hope you are joking
Got to agree with you I visited Melbourne a few years ago and 👍👍
As a young person that was brought up in east London. I can definitely say Manchester has changed my life for the better. Beautiful people, buzzing city. Like any city, you just need to find your people.
I've spoken to a bunch of people who grew up in London then moved up here and they all say the same. You have everything you need and it's all nice and compact so you don't have to go for miles and miles to get to it like in London. Though I really do want London style transport here and across the region. That would be a major game changer for the economy around here. Imagine a Crossrail of the North from Liverpool to Hull?
Studied at the University in Manchester and I had the best time ever. Its a great city for a ton of reasons and it will always be my home away from home
Love Manchester. Been there twice. The people and city are lovely.
I think industrial can be beautiful, especially textile industries.
As a Mancunian in New Zealand this was a pleasant surprise to see!
I could almost taste the beer from the Marble. I’ll be back for a visit soon.
Every country it seems has the cities that most people will go to (usually the capital city) or just the ones you hear about most often and the touristy cities. But if you want to actually experience the culture and what that city/ country is about (where the locals live, eat, hang around), then you have to go where the tourists usually don’t. Manchester is another example.
Manchester seems like a great place to visit. It's nice to see a positive story about the U.K. As an American most of the news I get about the U.K is all doom and gloom.
That's because most of the UK is literally doom and gloom, with some great parts.
This happens with uncontrolled illegal immigration
Well Brits are very negative and love to highlight all the bad things and broadcast them to the world more than any of the good things so I don't blame you for seeing the country that way!
@@TomNook. I don't agree, I think it's the opposite way around, people here in the UK just like to moan all the time.
Manchester has stood in for NYC as a filming locations a few times.
Don’t go for the weather but the reinvention of the city in the last thirty years is truly astonishing
It rains 12 days a year more in Manchester than london. That’s only one day a month
I Love Manchester I visited this place back in 2018
GREAT video, love Manchester!
You forgot the Northern Quarter - best place in Manchester.
Exactly
Band on the Wall is in Northern Quarter. Edit: but I do agree the area does deserve it's own shoutout
I can't wait to visit next year!!
I've observed that following covid and the housing crisis in most European capitals, large regional cities in most countries have seen an influx of young people and money leading to places like Manchester to strive again. Its a very positive development, however, the risk is that these places tend to copy the capitals and end up with the same affordability issues much more quickly as the infrastructure cant keep up with population growth. Enjoy it while you can!
Lived 10 years of my life there. Buzzing and exciting city.
for hipsters yes, but growing up here is terrible unless you are middle class.
its such an underrated city
Excellent video. Manchester is a beautiful city. 🐝 Must admit, it is underrated, though.
some very notable artists not mentioned
808 State, The Verve, Joy Division, Simply Red, Lisa Stansfield, Morrissey
Smiths, Hollies, 10cc, Bee Gees, James, Freddie & The Dreamers, M People, Herman's Hermits, The 1975, The Courteeners, Elbow, Happy Mondays, Take That, Charlatans, N-Trance, the list goes on. And the BBC Philharmonic and Halle Orchestra for those not of the rock/pop genre.
Very interesting.
7:33 Roses and Oasis on your side, while Manicured Noise is on mine.
For those looking for a good pint o' Guinness in Manchester, I can recommend Mulligans just off Deansgate. Best pint of the stuff I've ever had outside of Dublin. Proper old classic Irish pub too. It's always a big hit with my Irish father lol. Reminds him of home.
Might I have the postcode
I used to pop in there on the way home when I worked in Manchester Town Hall, but I tended to stick to a couple of Jamesons whiskey's!
@@sglenny001 12 Southgate, Manchester, M3 2RB
And nearly 7 quid a pint in there too! For those looking for it, it's just behind the old Kendal's (Bridge Street is just across the way).
I have done a lot of research about Manchester UK and I absolutely love it. I'm moving there next month as a fresh start and it's a change of pace being in a new country as a solo person. I will move my daughter here soon after
Which country are you moving from? if you don't mind me asking
@@hassan6692 I'm from the USA.... I'm leaving next month and not coming back 🧳🌍
@@MsSammiRoss that's interesting. US has got way better living standard then that small island they call UK. it's surprising to see someone preferring Uk Life over the US

Manchester would be great if it had a subway system
It is edgy rough and full of new places opening it is like a London way more affordable
Brilliant Fantastic
Cool
Loved it in its Madchester phase'
The 808 State guy lived just up the road from me.
I do believe the great movie director David Lynch visited Manchester as he loves to photograph industrial buildings.
I❤️ Manchester
Manchester also bid to host the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games and successfully hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
And Sheffield had the students games
And Birmingham bid for the Olympic Games in 2012 and lost to London but took the 2022 Commonwealth Games apparently according to the Commonwealth Games Commitee the best ever held and is hosting the European Atheletics Championship Games in 2026 the first time these games have been heald outside of mainland Europe

More to Manchester than just football
Football is what made it great … unfortunately that was a long time ago now. 🥲🥲🥲

Manchester, the big city of the Northern England/ Northumbria! 🇬🇧
Northumberland is the other side of the pennines
Living practically directly between Manchester and Liverpool my sister and I have had a continuous feud over which city is better. I’m on the side of Manchester cause it really feels like a modern and prosperous metropolitan city whereas, to me, Liverpool seems rather stagnant and declining.
A major case for me is their respective museums. Manchester Museum recently went through a major renovation with new galleries and updates to older ones, and Liverpool Museum seems to be stuck in the 80s with empty aquariums and outdated information.
Liverpool ain't declining
Interesting to compare this view of central Manchester with that of a local's view shown in the video by "Bee Here Now" entitled "Is Piccadilly Gardens the Worst Public Space in the World?" 😱🙄😉
Tell us more!
Picadilly Gardens isn't the only part of the city centre, of course a positive depiction of Manchester won't show it. Use your brain.
@@lordgemini2376 No inference was made that it was. Viewers were just directed to an alternative view of at least the indicated 1 part of the city which is generally acknowledged as being less than a roaring success. As a very intelligent person such as yourself would undoubtedly agree, all points of view should be put before the public and get a fair hearing before making up one's mind.
It's changed since I left in 1982
I'm from oldham in greater Manchester
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not far from you lol.
Lol
👍👍👍
Who were the reggae band?!
Joy division #1 manc band 😁
Two reasons. Manchester United and Manchester City Football Clubs
Nah man, plenty of people need to give their eads a wobble, if they think Manchester is mingin!
No need for people to sit their like a piffy on a rock, yous, need to get on yer bikes down ere and meet our kid and the rest of us at our gaff. It'll be buzzin! We won't cadge anything off you, no snidyness at all, as there are plenty of other sound people, just avoid the dibble if ya know what I mean!
You'll see! its mint round ere and there will be some scrikin when you leave!
Nice one! I'm off to iron me keks!
I’m mad for it
That's why they call it Manc-hattan...
Okay...that's interesting!

Il fait gris ici souvent. Cette été n’existe pas. Mais l’Angleterre est amusante et les gènes sont gentils. Je suis anglais. Désolé pour le mauvais français.
Manchester City Centre, is awesome....(i live in South Manchester)....if you visit, you can have a great time, but be warned, you need to massively avoid, all the beggars, bag_heads,and scammers........(keep yourself to yourself).....😊😊

Looks like the gentrification of the city has started here as well.
i think i went to the bad part
Có yêu Manchester không ? Có thích bầu trời Anh không ? Cả đời mình đã đi tìm , cả đời mình xây ước mơ , cho ngày mồng đẹp nên thơ
In my opinion, so many skyscrapers or just big buildings have been built recently, thus changing the landscape of the city. If you want to see skyscrapers you go somewhere else. I just hope that the fever stops, because manchester is not london. It offers something different. You won't beat london at... being london, so manchester, stay like you are: just beautiful, different and alternative
Its weried here you say my town name
I was born in Ancoats in 1955, and I grew up proud of Manchester, and I loved the place. I can’t abide it now, 90% of the lovely Victorian buildings replaced by red brick and glass. The beautiful sunken gardens in Piccadilly replaced by a concrete monstrosity. New Cross, New Islington, and Ancoats called the Northern Quarter how bloody twee? London Road Station now called Piccadilly and Exchange Station completely gone. The foreigners who now seem to form the majority of the population are welcome to it.
Lived in Manchester a few years I thought it was a dump trash everywhere, ugly houses, scruffy people horrible weather, very depressing place.
Yeah I visited last summer.. thought the same, it’s gets rough round the edges, like most places in the U.K., trash and terrible roads n footpaths boarded up commercial units . 1997 -2016 was the peak it’s going downhill from then.
Don’t bother, if you are short of time I would recommend you visit Edinburgh and then Bath after you’ve been to London if you want to see a beautiful city, I visited Manchester and was disappointed I presumed there would be some charm as with many European cities despite the development, unless you’re mad about Soccer/Football skip this place.
Same experience here, although I haven't visited Manchester since all this new building activity started. Edinburgh is my favourite city in the UK by far!
@@g-man4744 ditto
It's very much a working city, not a tourist place. If you're in to the music scene, football or industrial heritage then it really is a great place to visit. If you want somewhere you can just walk around and chill and look at beautiful architecture etc then it isn't really going to do much for you as you found out.
I think you didn't research the place sufficiently! Manchester is the UK city that was the birthplace of the industrial revolution i
It has the only orange canal in the world to prove it due to the iron ore from the mining history where miles upon miles of underground tunnels exist all starting at Worsley Delph! World heritage are considering it.
If your a historian, love sports or a night out (for any budget) there will be something for you.
Then there are the people. Friendly! Too right, that's what sets it apart!
It’s obviously a matter of opinion and taste. Personally l prefer Liverpool but Manchester is an extremely interesting city. As everyone says it is the world’s first industrial city: it has always been a place for money making. But it is also politically radical and its reinvention is the work of a staunchly socialist council, in alliance with artists, a lot of American corporations and right wing national politicians. It is a place for capitalists, sport, artists and bohemians. The population is young and diverse. To love the city you need a bit of a taste for darkness, grime and rain. It’s not for everyone
Manchester is blue 💙💙💙
Half of it anyway.
Great City to visit with lots of history, great restaurants and drinking establishments, but the Airport is one of the worst in Europe!!

I do enjoy manny but brum is better
Both are very simmar Manchester has the slight edge
@@sglenny001 Since when has Manchester have the edge over Birmingham, they even visit Birmingham from all over the UK just to visit the worlds biggest Prime mark Store in Birmingham
@@peterwilliamallen1063 If your city's claim to fame is Primark you're in trouble.
Why are you gelouse that thousands come to Birmingham just to go to Primark@@fuzzlewit9
The worst big city is Birmingham. It’s grim. Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Glasgow and Newcastle are all better. Manchester is in another league.
Birmingham was the First industrialised city and has a better musical heritage.
Nope. Manchester 1st industrial city, you are wrong. Just Google it and see. As for musical heritage, Halle Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Hollies, 10cc, Smiths, Oasis, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, BeeGees, Take That, James, Herman's Hermits, Freddie & The Dreamers, Courteeners, The 1975, Joy Division, New Order, Simply Red Verve, M People... it just keeps going. What do you have in Birmingham other than a few 70's bands like ELO, Slade and Black Sabbath? Not in the same league.
@@fuzzlewit9 All Manchester was involved with was the textile trade, Birmingham was the first industrial City dealing with the metal trade being a City of a thousand trades, and as for the Musical side Birmingham is famous for; It's World Famous Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne. Black Sabbath,Judas Priest, Duran Duran, ELO, Traffic, Moody Blues, Jeff Lynn, Fine Young Cannibal's, UB40, Musical Youth, The Move,Steal Pulse, Spencer Davis, Wizzard, Roy Wood, Christine McVie and Dexies Midnight Runners plus many more groups, Simon Cowell and many more famous stars. So if these are not in the same league how is it they are so famous
its still ugly
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It really isn’t though
Not really when you're actually there, the old victorian warehouses are especially nice and the new skyscrapers contrasting with the old gives it a cool vibe
Manchester doesn’t have any tourist attractions and it’s not worth visiting. Liverpool has more to see and better history.
Why go to Manchester when a far superior city is at the western end of the M62?
When a manufacturing city is known for pristine travel 🧳, then you infer, there is no manufacturing there
Should have gone in the 1970s and 80s different world now
