That's the official version but the cast and crew from the movie says that he was by far the most normal and cheerful person on the set. He kept talking about his daughter and was just being Heath.

So tragic 4 me even to this day. As an actor myself, I know that the role of the Joker did obviously have an emotional affect on him because he was method acting, where an actor LIVES AS THE CHARACTER. Meaning only he really got inside the Joker's head, nothing more. But that's a very very dark place mentally. It doesn't surprised me he had trouble sleeping. It doesn't surprise me he seemed irritated and distressed. But the death, is shocking, but above all tragic.
This is really makes me sad even those this is a long time ago

Heath Ledger was one of those actors who stayed in character even when not filming, when your staying in the character of someone like the joker, that's pretty rough, theres no doubt in my mind he had serious medical conditions develop as a result of staying in the character of the joker, and over dosed on sleeping pills cause he couldn't sleep, because of those medical conditions
yes. he had a cold which later was found out was pneumonia. he was taking prescription medication from a doctor for it, he couldn't sleep because of it and took a sleeping pill to help; the mix caused him to pass away accidentally. his father is now helping raise awareness on dangers of prescription medications.
he was only 28 and becoming one of the biggest stars thats amazing such a waste he went early may he rest in peace
he never even got to see the movie.....

In 2012 they found his journal and on the last page was his suicide note that said "bye-bye"

The Dr. Said reports said that Heath was taking pills because he couldnt sleep. Also that he was looking disshelved, drinking at bars, and kind've of tense. Maybe the Joker role did have an affect on him because it was so dark and he was so into to it a point. His line between Fantasy and Reality started to blur some. Heath did say that after filming for the Joker role his mind was racing and he was very tense or hyperactive. That's when he started taking these pills to ease himself and perhaps that wasn't strong enough.

I think Heath's The Joker role got to his head. When people act they have to get into the role, and I'm pretty sure that's why he died. Just like the man that was shooting in the movie theater, who idolized The Joker.

holy shit saw on a related video a batman one and i said to myself that was a damn good movie i never saw who played the joker as he was bloody brilliant so i decide to search in google i found his name was heath ledger so i type it in on youtube and i found this just fucking brilliant.... one of the best villains i have seen in a movie fucking hell....

Even though Heath's Joker Performance and his acting career will be celebrated for ages to come. Was Heath in the right place to play the role?.. he had just split up with his girlfriend M. Williams, he was drinking, and all the pressure to perform for this movie. Jack Nicholson warned Heath about the Joker role not too get to lost in it.

This sucks. I was hoping that he would star in another movie. I love Batman, and the Joker. There is only one person that i know of that could replace him. Guys, go check out a guy on here call "Ciscoreo", he's a really good impersonator of the Joker.
Note: a mainly factor of Heath Ledger's sleeping problems was that he couldn't stop thinking about the Dark Knight film and the scenes he was acting/ going to act. He couldn't get the character out of his head.
Christopher Nolan wrote a film so good that it can kill someone. Without purpose of course. R.I.P Heath Ledger, life in peace for you shall be honored as the greatest actor who ever lived.
