I dont ever comment about much, but Jack and Tiger playing together in the first two rounds, imo, was one of the best pairings in any major. None will ever be as good as Jack and Tiger.
01:02:56 This is what you're here for You've gotta love that anytime Tiger missed a putt, the assumption is that he made a bad stroke. Always that he pushed or pulled it. Absolutely no consideration that he may have simply hit his mark but misread it.
me too. same exact day. i watched as much of the us open as i could but we were busy that day. i was on a plane while the last round of the British open was on but this one i watch beginning to end. it was cool to see a guy like bob may stay with tiger all day and not blink. but Tiger was so cold blooded on the greens and par 5s it was ridiculous. You can play as well as you want but how are you gonna beat a guy who plays par 5s like 4s and also never 3 putts?
Daly was alleged to have quipped "I am doing my part for the fitness craze, I just bought a boatload of stock in "Peanut M&M's (Mars Candy), Michelob (Anheuser Busch), and Burger King".
I first saw Tiger (in person) at the 1996 Bay Hill Tournament in Orlando. He had an aura around him that you could feel. It was right before he turned pro. Once he did it was off to the races. I thought back then, "wow, I'll get to see this guy's career unfold." Sadly, that career, whether you love him or hate him, is definitely winding down. Hard to believe that it's been that long ago! I'm still grateful to have witnessed his greatness on the golf course. There will never be, like Jack, another Tiger Woods!
Winding down? He won the Masters in 2019! I wouldn't call that winding down and even after his recent car accident, I bet he'll come back. He's such an amazing athlete and knows how to win!! I worked at the SoCal PGA in the early 90s and he was in our Junior Golf program back then. Very nice guy!!
I have a similar story just at a different point in his career. The first time I saw him live was the PGA in 03 at Oak Hill. He's clearly already a made man by then. Every major twice over lol but he was in one of those infamous "slumps" which basically meant he was all over the place with the driver. But the aura was exactly as you described. I was looking out on a balcony in a clubhouse on Friday (dad scored some sweet tickets) and you could literally see a crowd of 1000 plus people all move in unison. And there's those broad shoulders and that black cap right in the middle of it. It was like if the people who followed Michael Jackson around all did it in a nice orderly fashion. Amazing.
And they both Birdie the 18th hole like the GOATS they will always be!!👏👏👏 What a view watching Tiger and Jack walking the 18th green, both compete at the same tournament, playing WITH each other. What a memory indeed. Golf at it's very best....
God I had this final round on VHS for 7 years...LOL.... the golf round I have watched most of all, just fantastic. I was just sad that Bob May did not get it, as he deserved it just as much
1:01:11 Tiger called this the most clutch putt in his career (well, until the 18th hole at Torrey Pines came along). Remarkable, considering it was a six footer, and all the other massive bombs he has made when the stakes were highest.
Not the Full final round....🙄 why cant we see the real coverage of the final round at this tournament? The Masters uploaded full final rounds of their tournament on UA-cam and the PGA should do the same. It’s an injustice to the 2000 PGA not to show full final round coverage for all to see
I had a lot of !+ going on at work during this tourney; but watching Woods and May duke it out that Sunday helped me start a stressful week with more vigor. I could scramble too 💪🏼
If I was in charge of determining when events happen, I would have the masters in April, US open in June, British open in July, and finally PGA championship in August. That's the way it was for a long time, but recently it's in May. It just makes the most sense imo
It would be pretty strong, but I'd be even more curious to see him with the earlier swing (1995 to 1998) before he changed it for more control. 1996ish Tiger had insane speed in his golf swing. Would be pretty crazy to see that version of him with modern golf ball and driver.
@@redfirebird2008 he averaged 300 off the tee during the 2000 U.S. Open with a freakin' piece of crap (I actually like their equipment but that driver was garbage compared to today's clubs) Cobra Driver w/ a standard length (at the time -43 inches) . And a ball that isn't nearly as "hot" as today's golf balls.
Tiger dominated back then because he out putted everyone! They all hit it good back then, but tiger was a step above the competition with his short game
At a time when 'The Masters' was exactly that (In their minds) "The 'Masters". It was expressed (in private) that Tiger he was 'Less Than' and didn't belong in their arena. It made me feel that there's 'Hope' for humankind' with Jack, because he was not having that 'Mess' when it came to 'Race' in the sport. Jack was the 'Authority', and what he said goes, so him 'Setting the stage' of the future of the masters, and being Tiger Woods' partner in this tournament let all the 'Old Bloods' know, it's a different era, and to get on board or be left behind. Jack is great for doing what he did, and as a result of that, golf EXPLODED exponentially in popularity across the spectrum of race, and economically multiplied > 100 since Tiger Woods entered the sport. Jack created a 'Win Win' for EVERYONE, and not just those who wanted to keep it all for themselves.
I forget the astounding level of swagger that Bob had about him as he was pushing Tiger to his absolute limit. In his heart of hearts he really knew he belonged on this enormous stage. (Also: 59:29 I found the token Packers Fan.)
1:05:44 we can clearly see that the guy with the white cap and white tshirt has seen tiger’s ball going in the bush. He disappears behind the bush, then we see the ball going out of that bush in the opposite direction (of the drive) and that guy rushing behind it... I remember seeing this live and feeling sorry for bob may
Even more impossible is that this person kept this secret all these years. I think you're just looking for a way to validate something you don't have enough information to call. Remember, there are marshals all over, especially during a playoff.
I felt so sorry for Bob May. He deserved to win this PGA as well as he played. Tiger just made some putts under pressure no one else could ever make. Ever.
Injuries prevented Bob May from having a much more illustrious career. When he got a brief window of health in 1999-2000, he proved that he could compete with the absolute best. Tiger had to rip this out of his hands.
Unbelievable $900,000 for the champion now they get around 2 million for a major win and well over a million for a regular tournament win. How times have changed and these purses are because of Tiger and have very little to do with inflation.
For Jack to say "Tiger was so much better than I thought he was" is interesting. Jack knew he was the best (a point I think could be argued). It never occurred to Jack that he wasn't the best. What was the quote when asked if he would play Senior Golf? "Why should I play golf with old guys that I beat regularly on tour. I could beat those guys with only a 3 iron in my bag"😂. Forgive me if my memory of that quote is incorrect. Also, if true, didn't Weiskopf have to intervene and offer a kindly reprimand for that statement?😂
Tiger's tee shot on 18 in the playoff has become kind of "grassy knoll" stuff. Long after he is gone, there will still be debate about exactly what was going on with his ball after it came down. Possibly the most peculiar thing ever seen in Major Golf.

Bob is a very nice guy! I worked at the SoCal PGA in the early 90s where his mom Muriel also worked and that office was crazy!! She would bring blow up dolls and dress them in lingerie to celebrate birthdays for the men who worked in the office! Also ordered a male stripper to entertain the women assitants. Total craziness and I was a target because I had worked at corporate jobs before working there and was in shock that the SoCal PGA (affilitated with the PGA of America) would allow behavior like this. The director of the office (Tom Gustafson) treated me horribly because I didn't play their game and go along with their craziness. Thank you so much for these awesome uploads!! Please keep it up for the rest of the year😀

Jack the champion of champions along with the champion of the future it doesn't get much better than this .........
Didnt he end up winning the major that Jack declared was his last? Amazing.
