@tamrastgeorge7807 Hi, I wanted to let you know that I finally finished that buggy that was your Dad's. I think it came out pretty good and is a lot of fun to drive! In case you wanted to see the final version, this is my last video on it: ua-cam.com/video/HChnIOdfFrU/v-deo.html
This is the kind of guy a factory maintenance supervisor dreams of finding. Someone who can just get something to WORK. People like that are very hard to find.
Best part was the statement, “well it might not happen because I won’t do it, but it could be done if I wanted to.. which I don’t” Honesty level was high and I can entirely relate ha! 😂
My buddy has a wrecked 51 Ford Car sitting in his yard. By wrecked I mean totalled. But it does have a straight rust free rear body and quarters . I showed him this buggy and he is now planning to build a similar one. Should be cool when done. He builds some very cool things
The comment on the Craigslist guy had me laughing so hard I was in tears. 😂 I appreciate your sense of humor. That alone keeps me coming back for more! Thank you for all your hard work!!
just love watching you tinker with all your awesome toys..... I'm learning so much from your channel.. thank you for all your time and keep up the awesome builds can't wait to see what's next on the list
It was that fancy wooden masking ring that failed you. More pain in the tyre bead and she would have held on to the rim. Ow well, live and learn. Nice work keep it up 👍
I believed everything you said in the vid all but one thing..... That is you would bolt in the fuel bits on your Jeep not zip tie them when you race it next 😋🇦🇺
I love this build. I recently saw some a old film (on youtube) of buggies just like this from 1970. I instantly knew what is was because of that. Cool stuff!
New to your channel ,love looking at the older videos! The front axle looks like it from a ford from the early 30s or 40s with the hydraulics brakes system! I have been watching a channel called iron trap garage ! They like redoing flat head ford v-8 motors,in 32 , fords .
Your exactly right about the vw and Mercedes smell is unique the only other vehicle with that smell is a 69 opal gt every time I smell it brings me right back to those days
Thanks! I think that its stock width. The rear axle is just extra wide, I switched to narrower rear tires for rollers just to get it on and off the lift easier because it hit both sides.
You remind me of a friend who ran a junkyard in Elko Nevada. His name was Steve. You have a very similar accent a look quite a bit like him. I wonder if you are related or something. Fun to watch you make something out of next to nothing. I loved it when Steve was running the junkyard here. Unfortunately we have no junkyard in Elko Nevada anymore. Steve went to work for the county road. I haven't seen him in many years now though.
It would be great if you would feel more bill Moore makes several parts to one video because I would like to see most of the fabrication I know you don't do things that "" right way but you do show how to work through problems and that is awesome
You sure come up with some interesting projects, love it! Myself, I'd run Electric fans and electric water pump, used are pretty cheap and you eliminate the two pulleys. Less shit to go wrong off road the better.
Thanks! I'm definitely going to go with an electric fan. So far I haven't found any cheap electric water pumps for a Mopar, but if I do I'll try it out.
That thing is so cool! Looks like it'd be a blast to drive. Great job on it is really cool I love to have something like that I bet you a whole lot of people would want something like that too.
I never understood why drum brakes are worse than disc breaks. Looking at how they work there appears to be much more area for friction on drum brakes and if they were made out of the same types of materials I would think drums would work better than discs even though they don't. Or are there such things as high end drum brakes?
From what I understand its a matter of getting rid of the heat. I've seen drum brakes with fins cast into them (Datsun 240Z) for performance use, but they still trap the hot air inside them with the shoes.
The good way to protect the aluminum radiator is to cut-out the sheet rubber from 8 inch wheel and inner tube comes out of 15 inch diameter tire or get a new one rubber from Marathon Brand or Slime Products. Then electric drill to cut a hole thru the sheet of rubber (synthetic). And the sheet rubber goes between the radiator and cowl frame. The radiator have sheet metal on both ends for bracket up and tighten to the frame in the front of metal wheel well. Frame is also called radiator carrier. The sheet is suppose to not block air wind flow thru the front side of radiator. Originally that rubber mount bushings allow the radiator to be cared for. Thanks.
Can you hide the radiator ? I saw a hot rod where radiator was underneath or hidden & people at car show was stumped if drivable . Lol they also hid most wires too.
Wondering why you didn't move the whole engine and transmission forward in the frame. Longer driveshaft would be the main benefit. OK, too much weight on the front axle, I get that.
My folks built sand rails wen I was a kid and at 11 years old I got to drive it was so much fun the buggy had a 57 j 2 olds with try power a b n m Hidromatic a model a front axial and strate pipes and it was rebuilt engine and it would really get up and go I pulled a weely and flored it was so much fun just saying
ive never worried about drive shaft angle,,i tilt the diff up as much as it will suffer, & re weld the shoes, gains +1/2'' clearence. with a cardan joint,
Hi my name is Paul garrison and I've been watching your videos and I throughly enjoy them . I would like to know more about your plasma cutting table if thats ok .please and ty keep up the cool videos.ty
Thanks, glad you like them! The plasma table is a Langmuir Crossfire with 2' x 2' of travel. I was searching for used plasma tables, and this one was actually cheaper to buy new than buying the used ones I found. Its only OK on accuracy. It wouldn't be good enough for production, but works good enough for a few things here or there like I need. Overall, I'm happy with it.
Some alternators may also works backwards, but if they're being run backwards you'd have to reverse the polarity of the wires. I don't really know, I haven't tried it, but I'm an electrician if that helps, it's plausible depending on how the alternator is wired, more likely to be possible with older style alternators, as newer ones are more likely to have internal circuitry that depend on the power coming from the right direction.f Should have painted that thing with truck-bed liner, not only is it the same texture, but it helps re-enforce the metal and protect it from future damage, environmental and physical...have you seen Jared's Charger yute conversion? Coat the sheet metal in truck-bed liner and it becomes invincible, like adding resin to glass fibers, but stronger because the liner sticks far better to metal than bondo does...

That's awesome, and I'm glad you like it! I've got more parts on the way, so its going to keep getting better.
@@LowBuckGarage I absolutely love it, you wouldn't want to sell it would ya?

Your mechanical skills and aptitude never cease to amaze me.
I grew up on the Oregon dunes in the 80's . dune buggies like this were everywhere. I miss those days. You always do the projects justice.
a year later, watching reruns. one of my favorite parts is the driveshaft work. I still love it.
I'm not a mechanic, but I'm so glad I found your channel. It's really fun stuff and I always learn something.
“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” What an awesome buggy and video.

Well buggy me sideways! The last time I watched anything that was 1 1/4 hours long it was a movie! I love the build and I love your attitude! Subbed!
I liked the hanging scale trick. Very clever.

Looks like they made that body from the rear of a '51 ford turned upside down & narrowed! CrAzY!!!
Yep, that's it! I'm not sure if the body was narrowed. The rear axle it really wide, it might just be making the body look narrow by comparison.

When measuring for belts you can use a rope run it around the direction it needs to go. Then mark it and lay it flat makes it easier to measure.

They have a pill for that

The alternator needs to spin in a certain direction because the fan behind the pulley cools it.
