The worst part is that the subtitles seem to be correct when played in the native languages. I play the game in Spanish and Azucena's lines are perfectly captioned, but the English subtitles are different and change the meaning of certain phrases.
Kazuya doesn't give a F * D DF+2 about anyone but it's good he at least has a soft spot for Jun, to the point that she's the only fighter he won't kick while down after a K.O. from his Rage Art. Masanori Shinohana's only role in voice-acting, yet really makes it work and becomes more iconic as times go by in the same vein as David Hayter as Snake, Jon St. John as Duke Nukem, and Rick Hunter as the Postal Dude, even though they voice other characters or aren't always voicing those characters, it's hard to imagine them without how they sound and speak. As for ideas on what characters to voice... Lee Chaolan? I know he says a lot of lines in English but I imagine whatever he says in Japanese is theatrical or sassy.
I agree with all your points! Masanori Shinohara’s voice work is amazing and he captures the villainy of the character perfectly. Yeah, it’s kind of difficult to know at times where some lines are used as you’d either have to input those moves, seen gameplay footage or remember if you ever heard the line at all. That’s something I keep in mind when I add the quotes.
I’d love to see do the Yoshimitsu too ! I’m trying to look what he saying but all of them are the word I never heard before I feels like it’s very traditional japanese 😮😮
@2:18- This like you say a couple of moments later is also frustrating to me, because this gives Kazuya more character depth and shows a less cynical and harsh side of himself. It makes sense considering it's Jun Kazama and given that he doesn't kick her away if he wins against her with a Rage Art, but I hope the story expansion we're getting elaborates on that further.
exactly that! Despite Kazuya being mostly hostile, he does have a reserved care about Jun and he’s never shown any hostility to her-so that subtitle was really odd. What were the localisers thinking? Smh! oh? there’s gonna be a story expansion? that’s interesting. I’ve yet to play Tekken 8, but… looks like I’ll be well fed when I get the game lol
Highly recommend Yoshimitsu as the next character after Jin. Between his proverb-speak and strange translation choices, it would be very interesting. He also has a lot of mid-fight lines. (Also totally not biased because his been my main for life) Some easy ones to miss are his hidden lines when you press left, right, or both punches while moving around in Indian Meditation stance.
Oh! This is great! I was surprised by how many lines I had misidentified. Some that stood out: "*ちゃばん*わおわりだ" as "*きゃばん*..." "おれわすべてを*しはいする*" as "おれわすべてを*しらいず*" (this one doesn't even make sense, i can't recall any japanese verbs that end in ず...) This one is the most surprising: "くらえ!" Due to the conveniently placed impact-sound that plays during this move, as well as his inflection, i interpreted this as "くらべる!" (?i don't even think this is a real word)
It’s was really cool to hear the accurate translations. I always felt something was a little off about them. Either way nice video! Now I’m curious what Reina and Asuka say.
FINALLY.. I've been curious about every line he says in battle & now I know! My gut feeling on what he was saying compared to tekkens subtitles was telling me some felt "off" & glad I was right on some.
heheh, thanks! I’d say I did OK as someone who doesn’t speak Japanese with the pronunciation. fukitobeeeee indeed! I think Jin says the same thing, actually 🤭
I find it interesting that his intro with Jun and his intro with Devil Jin could technically be remedied by just changing the period to a question mark I do wonder why Namco thought Kazuya was making statements. 7:12 I believe "doko ni demo kieru ga ii" would be something more like "disappear anywhere"
I find that interesting as well. Yeah, I think I slightly misinterpreted that part! It’s intriguing finding out what the characters say vs what is localised.
These vids are really great, I'm glad I subbed after stumbling on the Devil Jin video! Going through the whole Japanese speaking cast would be neat, but that's probably a larger ordeal.
In Tekken 7 just before the end, Kazuya says "Onore Heihachi", now the french translator put "Be cursed, Heihachi" so imagine my surprise the day I realized he actually said "FU Heihachi" 🤣
Translations are notoriously changed in Tekken. It's been like that forever. Even now noticed when other characters started speaking their own languages
Back again to nitpick your analyses! 4:20 ;) The translation in the game is fine because if we were to consult a monolingual Japanese definition not concerned with how it would be perceived by an English speaker, we would see that the so-called "question marker" particle か can also mark reprimand, retort, or even just plain surprise. Kazuya is plainly aware that Devil Jin is a form of Jin who has gone mad with power, and he would not need to ask for confirmation from Jin whether Jin has become consumed by power or not. He simply makes an observation with a hint of condescension (seeing as Kazuya can transform while still being completely self-aware). 4:50 You ignored the onomatopoeia のこのこ, meaning "unconcernedly", "noncholantly", "shamelessly", or "brazenly". What he's saying is more along the lines of "You've got some nerve showing up here." 6:25 Your translation is also not quite right. I'd even say the game is more correct. That でいい part makes the statement literally mean "[*It is good/enough if*] I am the only one to inherit the devil's blood." It's not a statement of fact, but stressing what he believes to be the correct way that things should be. Only three major corrections this time. Impressive. On another note, while I do defend the specific translations you critique that just happen to hit the mark, I'm glad I'm able to play without relying on the English subs, because they're still pretty terrible overall.
hi again! I was curious about what you’d say, heheh. Ohhh, I see. Looks like I didn’t catch those small nuances, but I’m glad I didn’t stray too far from the actual translations (and there’s a LOT less than the Devil Jin video), so it looks like I’m improving! I actually learn a lot with your comments as a non-native speaker, so thanks for the critiques!! In future, would it be OK if you could proofread a translation I’m working on? I’m unsure how I’d contact you about this, though.
is there anyway I could contact you on that? email is fragmentedpixelsfp[at]gmail.com (replace [at] with @) or you can use any of the contact links: bio.site/fragmentedpixels
I'm curious of what does he say when fighting Jin in the last chapter (almost at the very end of the fight). In english he says: All of it, for naught! while he's doing an abolishing fist on counter hit, followed by 1,2 + thunder god fist. I don't know, sounds cool
I feel like his win quote with Devil Jin is somwhat correct. The phrase: 俺だけでいい Where the "ii" is implying that "Im the only one who should bear the Devil's blood", almost in a sense that he doesnt think that Jin should bear it as well, that he (Kazuya) should shoulder it alone. Thats sort of hypocritcial to the whole devil blood gig and kaz's personality, but its just a thought~ Anyways, good video! Keep up the good work 😁😁
Thanks! That’s interesting. It’s kind of like, as you say, he is the one who can control that power without hesitation, hence, he’s capable. Kazuya has lamented Jin for this reason for a while and this ‘weakness’ that he displays. Smh, Jin didn’t ask for this Devil gene! lol
@@fragmentedpixels Oh! I see! I saw it in a more sappy sense. As in, "I alone should have to bear the burden of the devil gene." I saw it as Kazuya not wanting Jin, his son, to have to bear the curse. It doesnt line up with the char's traits at face value, but its nice to think that Kaz has some compassion for his son. :D Wishful thinking though ngl 🗿
ohhhh. I guess I interpreted it differently. In an ideal world Kazuya would realise that Jin isn’t realllyyyy the problem when it comes to that; but actually Heihachi since he very much created this mess lol. back to your interpretation, that would be an interesting break in character. but seeing how mean Kazuya is to Jin…it’s quite slim 😭But we can dream of a wholesome Kazuya arc! haha 😆
Loved this breakdown. Maybe do others from the series? I would love to see my boy Bryan being translated... However it may be hard translating laughs and tektekteks
When Kazuya is talking to Devil Jin about being consumed by the Devil gene, he's actually talking about how Jin can't control the Devil gene and how it's taking over his body and consuming his soul.
TheMainManSwe has forever changed Fukitobe's pronunciation to the wider Tekken community. now its SHIKUE! (how we got shikue out of fukitobe idk but thems the rules now)

This was an amazing job. You should do a King video too
eh? King says stuff? 😆
loool thanks!
That was great! Heihachi just dropped. I would love to see a video of him as well.
Highly recommend Yoshimitsu as the next character after Jin. Between his proverb-speak and strange translation choices, it would be very interesting. He also has a lot of mid-fight lines. (Also totally not biased because his been my main for life)
Some easy ones to miss are his hidden lines when you press left, right, or both punches while moving around in Indian Meditation stance.
Great video, I'm glad I stumbled upon this. I've been looking for this type of breakdown format for a long time
yay! glad it was helpful. 🙂
One of the best Tekken videos so far. You made me laugh so hard. Important knowledge for Tekken fans! ✌🏻
thanks!! glad I could also be entertaining heheh 😆
Was hoping you would make that video and here it is! Thank you! 💪
no problem!
Oh! This is great! I was surprised by how many lines I had misidentified. Some that stood out:
"*ちゃばん*わおわりだ" as "*きゃばん*..."
"おれわすべてを*しはいする*" as "おれわすべてを*しらいず*" (this one doesn't even make sense, i can't recall any japanese verbs that end in ず...)
This one is the most surprising:
"くらえ!" Due to the conveniently placed impact-sound that plays during this move, as well as his inflection, i interpreted this as "くらべる!" (?i don't even think this is a real word)
It’s was really cool to hear the accurate translations. I always felt something was a little off about them. Either way nice video! Now I’m curious what Reina and Asuka say.
Thanks! Same here, actually. They’re laughably odd at times lol.
hopefully I can cover those two 🙂
I'd like to see Reina translated next. Awesome video!
thanks! 🙂
These translation videos are God's work. Could you make a translation vid about Lee next?
thanks!! yeah, I can’t make any guarantees. though, I hope to cover him eventually 🙂
W Pixels continuing to be a kazuya fujo for tekken 8
even though he isnt a Cool Young Yakuza Man anymore he's still the goat
definitely not a fujo, but he’s a cool character!
FINALLY.. I've been curious about every line he says in battle & now I know! My gut feeling on what he was saying compared to tekkens subtitles was telling me some felt "off" & glad I was right on some.
yeah… it’s like a bad anime sub at times loooool
I’m glad this answered your questions!
Love your videos, especially about Kazuya ❤
thanks so much!! 😊
Yeah he fights to kill, it'd only make sense he communicates hostility
definitely-unless it’s Jun! 😅
Love it, thanks!
you’re welcome.
damn you sound cool when you pronunce some of the japanese words! good work there buddy (Fukitobe 🗣)
heheh, thanks! I’d say I did OK as someone who doesn’t speak Japanese with the pronunciation.
fukitobeeeee indeed! I think Jin says the same thing, actually 🤭
We need HEIHACHI! (Thank you for the video)
Can’t wait for the king voice line video
I find it interesting that his intro with Jun and his intro with Devil Jin could technically be remedied by just changing the period to a question mark
I do wonder why Namco thought Kazuya was making statements.
7:12 I believe "doko ni demo kieru ga ii" would be something more like "disappear anywhere"
I find that interesting as well.
Yeah, I think I slightly misinterpreted that part! It’s intriguing finding out what the characters say vs what is localised.
Thanks so much for translating this more properly.
If you are a fan of the game, this video butchers more than it fixes and shouldn't be trusted.
uh… care to explain? In what way am I butchering these translations?
thanks!
I'm rly enjoying this series so far 🔥
glad you enjoy it! 🙂
@@fragmentedpixelswould love to see one on Reina or Jin next 😁
@@KidBuuKing16jin is on the way! 😌
@@fragmentedpixels awesome! Gonna be busy for u when heihachi drops 😂
More of these. I beg.
These vids are really great, I'm glad I subbed after stumbling on the Devil Jin video! Going through the whole Japanese speaking cast would be neat, but that's probably a larger ordeal.
welcome! yeah, it is… but I’ll see. there’s some characters I want to cover as well!!
I hope we can get The Main Man to watch this on Stream, think he’d find it really interesting.
In Tekken 7 just before the end, Kazuya says "Onore Heihachi", now the french translator put "Be cursed, Heihachi" so imagine my surprise the day I realized he actually said "FU Heihachi" 🤣
looooool, he hates his guts! 🤣
Translations are notoriously changed in Tekken. It's been like that forever. Even now noticed when other characters started speaking their own languages
yeah. the localisations are not it! at least we have the Japanese text to go by 😅
5:25 THAT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE
I’m not sure why they localised it as “I’m fed up”… so odd!
More of these please! Kazuya is 10 times cooler after hearing his actual lines
he does! the translations don’t do him justice 😩
Can't wait to see one of these for Dragunov.
love the channel just discovered it gonna like all videos to signal boost very well made !
thanks very much!! 😊
Lee would be amazing! Especially with what he says when he lands a parry on you
heheh, lee’s ones seem fun. hopefully I can cover him soon.
Alright, this was great. You get my like.
thanks!
You should definitely do Yoshimitsu next, I'd love to know how accurate his translations is!
Do Jin next !
hopefully I can look into Jin’s quotes soon!
Awesome video! You should def translate King’s voice lines next, I’m sure he’s saying some insightful stuff
‘rawwwwwrrrr’ is the most iconic King line! 🤣
LOOOL but in all seriousness, thanks!
What he's saying is more along the lines of "You've got some nerve showing up here."
6:25 Your translation is also not quite right.
@@fragmentedpixels I wouldn't mind proofreading. It sure would be easier to keep in touch if UA-cam's non-Gmail emails stuck around...
is there anyway I could contact you on that? email is fragmentedpixelsfp[at]gmail.com (replace [at] with @) or you can use any of the contact links: bio.site/fragmentedpixels
I'm curious of what does he say when fighting Jin in the last chapter (almost at the very end of the fight). In english he says: All of it, for naught! while he's doing an abolishing fist on counter hit, followed by 1,2 + thunder god fist. I don't know, sounds cool
amazing video
ty!!
I feel like his win quote with Devil Jin is somwhat correct. The phrase:
俺だけでいい
Where the "ii" is implying that "Im the only one who should bear the Devil's blood", almost in a sense that he doesnt think that Jin should bear it as well, that he (Kazuya) should shoulder it alone.
Thats sort of hypocritcial to the whole devil blood gig and kaz's personality, but its just a thought~
Anyways, good video!
Wishful thinking though ngl 🗿
ohhhh. I guess I interpreted it differently. In an ideal world Kazuya would realise that Jin isn’t realllyyyy the problem when it comes to that; but actually Heihachi since he very much created this mess lol.
back to your interpretation, that would be an interesting break in character. but seeing how mean Kazuya is to Jin…it’s quite slim 😭But we can dream of a wholesome Kazuya arc! haha 😆
Thank you so much!
You're welcome! 😊
Man this is some awesome content!hope you will make other character too such as hwoarang🔥
Requesting Reyna Mishima Over Here!
Loved this breakdown. Maybe do others from the series?
I would love to see my boy Bryan being translated... However it may be hard translating laughs and tektekteks
When Kazuya is talking to Devil Jin about being consumed by the Devil gene, he's actually talking about how Jin can't control the Devil gene and how it's taking over his body and consuming his soul.
yeah… I may have looked into that quote a bit too much 😅
Damn you you bastard… when he dies… I fucking love it
same! 🤣
02:10 WE WERE ROBBED
we were!!! ‘cause why did they translate the line like that? very weird that they changed the context.
TheMainManSwe has forever changed Fukitobe's pronunciation to the wider Tekken community. now its SHIKUE! (how we got shikue out of fukitobe idk but thems the rules now)
