I mean, as a designer you are supposed to take what they tell you they want and give them what they really want. Part of being a good tattoo artist is recognizing what works where on the body and how to talk to your clients about that
@@rsmith6425 People that aren't tattoo artists can be very stubborn because they dont understand how shit works even when a professional is trying to explain it to them. In the real world difficult clients would be rejected but the artists cant do that in this competition. You cant give someone what you believe they want without passing the ideas through them first. They're permanently changing their skin. If they say no it means no. They have to say yes. There's only so much you can do to try and convince them.
I’m surprised that no one gives the canvas’s credit, they have to go through the pain. Like imagine getting a tattoo on your ARMPIT and not saying anything
Mhm! Even if it is free the pain is still terrible. Armpits are one of the most painful spots on your body to get tattoo and most artists will try to convince you out of it
Apart from the fact that it's completely free and they know what they sign up for, the bits where they take breaks, curse and/or sweat, etc are cut out because no one wants to see that.
I don't want to search through the enire video just to find the one scene you are referring to. Maybe you could add the time you refer to into your comment next time.
Every challenge has a contestant define the type of tattooing it is. Yet every definition is the same. "You just have precise lines and perfect shading"
Idk i think the theme is less a challenge and more "this is what were going to nitpick and if it comes down to two artists, this is the aspect that will make it or break it"
"Giving yourself more lines to do makes it harder" Nah, it means it's not a musical stave so it's just frickin WRONG not harder!! I love Tommy so much, I still haven't got over how he was robbed in first season by Shane the black and grey wolf one trick pony.
it's not the features themselves... i think... im not sure how they were looking at it. i think it's that the proportions were pushed too far for the tattoo
bro how do you put 7 lines of a music staff..... 5 lines is basic knowledge, and you could have LOOKED IT UP if you needed so much help. Also the fact that the number of lines didn't even match is ridiculous oml
lmao Why did Anthony win that “under the chin” challenge? He literally didn’t even tattoo there AT ALL 🤣 He basically avoided it. My vote was definitely for that other guy’s tattoo with the eye! That line work ESPECIALLY for under the chin was _reeeeeally_ good.
"I'm finishing this challenge, even if I have to put my foot on your throat and crank up this machine" The attitude I wish some of the artists have with problem clients

Haii yeah. it didn’t seem like it hurt in the last video. it’s an alternative to getting it on a spot that’s permanent for religious people. they can still get tattoos that way and they’ll grow them out till they’re gone
I love how tattoo artists just wake up and say “To seal the deal and make it obvious that I’m a tattoo artist, I’m either gonna get extra piercings, stretch my ears, or get tattoos on entire parts of my body. Let’s do it.” AND THEY LOOK SO GOOD 💀💀
I feel like you kind of become a collector over time rather than all at once. 1:35 It always blows me away how uninformed the person being tattooed is in regards to the technicality of the tattoo. You'd think getting a permanent mark on your body would encourage someone to do their homework.
As someone who’s never gotten a tatt, watching this show, and the mess ups just reenforces my decision to not get them. I like well thought out and meaningful tatts, I just know myself, and would hate it after a week.
I feel like you are less likely to get those types of mess ups in real life. There is much less pressure when it's not a competition Just put work into finding YOUR artist that specializes in the style you want
I drew my own tattoo...was just doodling in my notebook. and was like wow I like this. colored it in...took the picture to the shop. the artist took my picture home made a stencil, straightened the lines and put that baby on my back. edit: I was "doodling" as part of a grieving process...so my tattoo is meaningful..it's abstract. I guess my point is if you have an idea of what you want. do your best to draw it and explain your vision to the artist. wait for the artist to come back with the stencil and see if their interpretation captures what you want. look at their portfolio online to see their application. I lucked out. I went to the only tattoo shop in town, paid the man and he nailed it.
which is why you thoroughly look at the stencil first, then think about the placement and really make sure that is where you want the tattoo, and check up on the tattoo while being tatted to keep the artist from fucking up too badly
This is why I'd never get a tattoo - between the ages of 16 to 18 I had planned and drew sketches of a whole arm sleeve and then I turned 18 and realised I didn't really like the sketches so much... Over time I realised I'm FAR too indecisive to get something permanently, like I've literally had nightmares where I've gotten tattoos and regretted it. I'd rather just do pen doodles and eyeliner Tatt's and henna than commit to a real tattoo. I love the art form though. My best friend is RIDDLED with tattoos and I love finding new ones on her, she's my favourite art piece ❤
As someone that has both palms and inner fingers done, I can confirm how painful it is 10/10. And if it's done right, they stay. I've had mine for years and no issues. Much love from 🇦🇺
I don’t understand the artists who say they gotta come with their A game and complain about it. It’s on the canvas for life you should always be on your A game
these people are literally acting like there aren’t people attached to the place they are tattooing. they are criticizing the tattoos infront of the person who had that tattoo permanently marked on them and call these humans “canvases” edit: fixed misspellings
I somewhat agree, although the "canvases" signed up for it and know exactly what they are getting into (and can always say no) I think the language surrounding the tattoos and clients is just very dramatized for the show
Also, by what I've watched, when "a canvas" can't tolerate the pain and the tattooer simply can't finish the tattoo, the judges criticize the tattooer.
I know where you're coming from but I kinda disagree. The people who are getting tattooed signed up for it; they know what the competition implies, which is criticism of the tattoo even during the process, so the artist can get what's wrong before finishing. And about the canvas thing, I think it's not that deep. Artists call canvases the surface they do their art on. A tattooer's canvas is a human. However, I do think that the artists should not be mad or overly criticize the canvas if it's feeling a lot of pain. They are humans too, and if they're in pain it's not their fault, but the tattooer's.
@@el-maiki same, they used dead pigs in some competitions and called pigs canvases. unlike real they cannot express their opinions because those pigs are dead, pork if you will dear sirs and madams

Not sure how tf Anthony won the adaptability under chin when he literally avoided the under chin at all costs. Like if you look at the moon it’s hella faded and not very clear. It’s just a neck tattoo the dude with the triangle should’ve won for sure
I have a tattoo close to my arm pit (not on, but high on my arm close to it). I have over a dozen tattoos but the armpit area HURTS like a bitch. I can’t even imagine 6 hours of this twice jfc
The fact that these people are able to do this on the body makes me have so much respect for tattoo artists all around the world....Man i cant even draw on a paper.

it honestly makes sense how hard the judges are on them, if you think about it not everyone will go to the same tattoo artist all the time so having to match a different artist makes sense but it also sucks that the judges say some finished pieces suck when art takes all different forms
My coworker is getting a butterfly palm tattoo in a week, I don't see how it will last? One of her finger tats is almost faded away after a year anyway and it was very distinctive. A palm is small, requires very fine detail, but how do you get it deep & dark enough to last? Too bad they cancelled the show, I'd like to see a flashback show with these in 10-15 years! - And who wants 2 armpit tattoos, done by people who don't know each other? What do they pay the canvases in compensation? They have to know if they aren't in the final round it's a hue risk!

I’m surprised none of the artists have done something like “I can do black and white now, but contact me after it’s healed and I’ll do the color for free if you still want it”. Great way to compromise for the competition, but still get the client what they want.

And they shouldn't be punished for really difficult people who will not listen.
I thought that yeti palm tat looked cute even if it will fade eventually edit : also that queen looked like it came from a deck of cards. Didn’t see anything wrong with it
Right? The yeti was adorable

Lmao they only show little clips of the canvas’ face throughout the tattoo. They do sometimes 6 hour, 12 hour tattoos. 😂
How is it their fault though if they can't talk someone out of something? What are they supposed to do?
I mean, as a designer you are supposed to take what they tell you they want and give them what they really want. Part of being a good tattoo artist is recognizing what works where on the body and how to talk to your clients about that
@@rsmith6425 yeah but they should understand its a competition. And there getting it done for free...
@@rsmith6425 People that aren't tattoo artists can be very stubborn because they dont understand how shit works even when a professional is trying to explain it to them. It’s free and they signed up for it

Nobody:
Dave when he said they will be in excruciating pain: :)))))
There is much less pressure when it's not a competition
Just put work into finding YOUR artist that specializes in the style you want

I somewhat agree, although the "canvases" signed up for it and know exactly what they are getting into (and can always say no)
I think the language surrounding the tattoos and clients is just very dramatized for the show
Also, by what I've watched, when "a canvas" can't tolerate the pain and the tattooer simply can't finish the tattoo, the judges criticize the tattooer.
@@annieliina ik. like they cant control the pain tolerance of that person.
