I mentioned this on instagram but for those who care and didn’t get to see it I live where the car came from. This car would always be at the supermarket on Saturday’s. Seemed to be an elderly person. So happy to see it going to a good new home. HUSTEDT CHEVROLET which is where it came from in Centereach isn’t even there anymore (closed in 2010 and is now a Hyundai dealer) that is how maintained this car truly was. Such a cool find
Thank you for sharing this info. I have a while new top end for this car.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds that is awesome. Enjoy it for me. I miss seeing it in its spot at the store. I hope the old owner of it is ok and nothing bad happened. Clearly they didn’t drive it much more then the store and back in the last 5-10 years
I think you and nick should make this a project together and I think that would be a great starter car for him
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds As the former owner of a $500 chevy cavalier, I love seeing them out there. I couldn't afford to put her back together (needed brake line, master cylinder, all new everything rear brake wise) so I lost my job when she had to go but I was so grateful for time w her. Hopefully this lovely little cavalier finds a good home just like mine did when I couldn't take care of her anymore.
@@billstreber5194I reckon you shouldn't tell someone else to give away their own property for free. You should film yourself giving your car away to someone for free, and then upload it.
"Nobody wants these cars anymore" - that's about to change. People aren't going to pay $50k for a new car or $35k for a used one. These little $500 beaters are about to become as rare as hens teeth.
not little it's midsized 😾
I agree with you, Car prices are unbelievable to expensive. I think car prices are hurting are economy one way or another. I have a 97 grand am with a 3.1 it has low miles yes it a small drip coolant leak . Not suer yet what it is. With 58 thousand. Miles on it.
We need a car market bubble pop.
Oh, they've been rare as Hen's teeth for a while now, ..unless you go to the Junk yard, ..🔥🚮
..looks like a Geo Metro
Keep the old car ads ! Takes me back to watching commercials back in the 90’s !
I like this new format of doing the older cars with the commercials and the Carfax reports. Pretty cool and entertaining to watch.
That is brilliant, yes.
I absolutely love the way he's doing these videos too . ✌️😎
The fact that you love Cavaliers is why I love your channel.
Cavalier were amazing, cheap and easy to fix, no frills transportation
And the 2 door is honestly a pretty good looking car...especially in this color he has this one in.
@@MrR2185 I 2nd that 🚘👍
@@MrR2185 yep my first car was a 1998 Cavalier Z22 (not Z24, in Canada the RS were called Z22) in Purple and 5 speed loved that car
"Amazing" is a little generous lol.
I would pass on the paint job a good cut and polish would take care of the scratches. This car in that condition is worth the head gasket repair. Great find Randy
I agree. This car is clean, and worth some love!
I had a 2004 cavalier and it lasted me over 10 years without giving me any major problems. 🍺
I had a 2001 as my first car back in 2016. It got me around for 4 years before I decided I wanted something a little more reliable. I now have a 2012 Toyota Camry that’s now paid off. Everytime I see a cavalier or sunfire still on the road I give my respects because it seems like they’ve just disappeared recently, especially after Covid.
I would keep the Cavalier as a shop car to run errands with and pick up parts, camera car for yt videos, etc. I would troubleshoot the temperature sensor for the electric fans, maybe its bad? The cooling fans wiring runs through the ignition switch, it could be a worn ignition switch? You could get a lot of content from this car. 1. paint bumpers body color at Maaco, 2. head gasket removal-replacement, I think the tapping noise is the power steering pump? If it is the top end, it might be just a lifter loose? 3. high performance tires and shocks. She's a keeper!!!!
My second new car. Bought in California Air Force. Same 2 door and teal color. 5 speed. Loved it
That is crazy , I had one in black it was a 1998 model 2.4s . Was a really cool car, bought it for $1k back in 2011. Cool cars
Don’t forget, this car was sold as a Toyota in Japan
Nice
And was way cooler in the Japanese version
@@richgwozdz8580and probably a lot faster
I always wanted the fold away mirrors from the Japan Cavalier on my car
not
I love the retro commercials for the cars you showcase!
I had a 1998 Cavalier, got 320K miles out of it before the engine cradle rusted out! Great running car!
I had the 98 four-door version in Hunter Green and absolutely love the car bought it brand new and when I traded it in, it had 187,000 miles and had a head gasket problem but other than that car was a dream.
I owned two of them and both made it well past 200,000 miles.
My grandmother had a 1995 Chevy Beretta in this same color. Loved that car. It was outfitted with a manual transmission which made it super fun to drive.
First new car I ever bought was a 99 2 door coupe in gold metallic. I bought it for my fiancé. Now we’ve been married 25 years and have gone through a lot of cars. We still remember that little Cavalier fondly. Thanks for the memories.
My 1st new car was a white 99 cavalier! It was a test drive car. Bought it Feb 15th 2000. Test drove it on valentines day..lol
Man I worked on these at the Chevy dealer a long time ago. If I remember correctly almost all of these had a special policy on the head gasket replacement. I did a bunch of them for that external coolant leak you were talking about. I also ran into coolant weeping through the cylinder head around the spark plugs. Usually the GM cooling system seal tabs would stop that instead of replacing the head. It's hard for me to tell in the video but most of that noise from the engine almost sounds like a loose timing chain to me. I did a bunch of timing chains on them for noise. My dad currently has my blue 95 4 door Cavalier sitting in his barn if you need another. Lol
I've always had a big heart for these cars ever since i was a little kid when my grandparents had a 2000 before it was handed down to my parents. I now have a 2001 and its the best damn car I've ever had. Comfortable, great visibility and incredibly reliable for its 23 years of age. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and I winter store it to hopefully keep it around as long as possible. Everyone thinks im nuts but I absolutely love that little car. I really hope to see you fix this very deserving example! I'd say it's got a stuck lifter, probably from sitting around.
My first car was a 97 cavalier z24 the 2.4 dohc motor was pretty spunky and alot of fun! This brings me right back watching this video
I had a 1996 chevy cavalier coupe, coming out of high school. Same color, except mine had the bumpers painted too. The color was called Aqua green. It was a Great car.
Oh, you had the painted bumpers you had the fancy one :-) I bet the mirror caps were painted also
I grew up with these cars too, many memories. I wish I could find a Cavalier wagon. Those are unicorns now.
Had a Sunfire sounded like that,no head gasket problem,no engine problem.
Yeah I don’t think it’s a head gasket. These cars were the same thing just Pontiac and Chevy branded
@@luist.1775I Had an 87 and a 91 both had Head Gasket Problems but good cars
Back when I was in high school, the parking lot was full of these cars along with the sunfires
Who had that cavalier in the past they definitely cared really about it
Mom had this car .never any problems.
Love that color! And that alarm chirp really brings back memories!!!
I worked for Enterprise from 97-98. We had the two door version in our fleet. They were so much fun to drive. Good times
I like how you put these old vintage car ads on your videos!! It adds to the fun of your channel!!
last week I got a 2007 chevy impala for 600 dollars runs and drive!
See he keeps saying that “cheap cars are out there” but he forgets that we are not wholesale dealers and we don’t have access to all these auctions. So he’s $2300 onto this cavalier that needs tires at a minimum. So more like $2700-3000 to make it road worthy. Idk he’s not paying any of these title prices because he’s getting them shipped. Literally no such thing as a cheap used car anymore. $2500 is the new $500 car
I gotta disagree. I bought a 2009 Impala and drove it home for $500
@@icepop54367 yea i went on fb marketplace got a 2007 impala for $700 i been driving it for almost a year
@@dalehenthorn5065 Not trying to start a fight but I also throw in taxes, title, insurance, local & state tags. In Chicago a $500.00 US Dollar car can quickly become well over $1,000.00
It's never gonna be as nice as that Z24 Cavalier you had!!! That thing was beautiful!!!
I had a 94 cavalier in the same color in HS. My dad bought it brand new but I made the car payments by working at McD's. My parents paid for the insurance, but everything else was my responsibility. It was so basic that it didn't even have a radio from the factory. I bought and installed my own head unit and speakers. My parents took it back over when I went into the Army because I was assigned overseas.
My brother had a 95 2 coupe drove it through college. Awesome gas mileage car my brother's was a 5 speed manual. I like that car older car's body style.
I’ve noticed on late 90s early 2000’s vehicles that after shutting the vehicle off after driving for a while the temperature gauge goes slightly above normal and then when you start it again, it’ll come back down to normal
I owned a 1984 and a 1992 Cavalier, both 2 door, both bought new. Great cars, never gave me any trouble the entire time I owned either one. Wish I had one now, simple, economical, priced right.
This one looks amazing. My dad aspired to own this car in this color 15 years ago. From the time cheap Chevys weren't korean shitboxes
from 1982 to 1988 caddilac used the cavalier platform to make a car called the cimarron, pretty much a chevy cav with caddy badges lol
Leather seats.
They did the same thing a couple of decades later, this time using the Opel/Vauxhall Omega to make the Cadillac Caterra which Randy has one in gold.
Big Al's auto has a few 🚘✌️
I've always wanted the Cimarron. My mom had one and is still a dream car for me.
@@ccross1210 I hear that my friend . A friend had one & thought they were so cool IMO
If you are still searching for a car for Nick , this will be the perfect one . Teach him the old fashioned method of getting your first car. Have him help you fix it and then give him the keys when you’re done .
I would have been thrilled to have that car as a first car and I know you would have too . As long as it had 4 tires and an engine, a nice stereo is all you needed 😉
I had a 94 and my wife a 95 both car were very good no big Problems at all just the starters once in a while and power steering pump and the back motor mount other than that drove both cars over 8 years they are good engines , same engine the postal vehicle has still today.
Randy you know its Blue Devil time!!! 👍😉
i love the old car commercials so cool
I had a 90 cavalier z24 3.1 black with silver ground effects back in 2000.
I bet that 3.1 was FAST by 1990's standards. My dream car is a Corsica LTZ with the 3.1!!😎😎But I'd settle for an LT with the 2.8!
I love the old Cavalier. I didn't own one as I was into hotrod and lifted trucks but plenty of my friends or friends parents had them. So cool! I hope this video does well so you decide to fix it and do the head work.
This iteration Cavalier were ubiquitous, they sold like crazy! They were actually great cars and an excellent value.
I love what you have been doing and the direction you are taking the channel I myself love these old cars!!! I can’t wait to see if you get a 92 Buick Rivera
Fast reaction gang check in
The older 2.2 and older yet 2.0 had the headmaster issue. Usually around 100k you'll need to replace the gasket and that's usually it. I've had 3 cavys on my 4th one now, but has the ecotech which basically is bulletproof inside and out. I have a 94 s10 that's had the gasket replaced (2.2). Basically it's good for around 10 years or around 100k depending. I know quite a bit about these little cars. Any questions don't hesitate to ask.
My 94 s-10 had the 2.2, and it sounded like two skeletons making love on a metal bed. It was awful sounding, but that thing ran for over 250,000 miles before I sold it. They're great little engines. It's pretty gutless, but it got decent fuel economy and me from A to B and everywhere in-between 😁
Love the car and the content, Randy 👌 👍
Contrary to what you seem to think, long Island cars don't tend to rust, unless they were kept right next to the ocean. Upstate New York cars do rust more because they use salt with reckless abandon. Personally, as someone more than old enough to remember these cars when they were new, I cannot imagine anyone wanting to see One again. They were not the best, to say the least
Oh man what a nice car,a good basic one.I think even its now worth nothing, that headgasket and some pads its good to go to someone who needs a car just to go to work or even to have and show how cool the cars are.
Like always a nice video, love this old cars Randy.
I had the old square boxy Cavalier. 93 model I think, and it's been the only car I've bought brand new so far.
I had an 01 cavi it was a 4 door LS with the 2.4 Twin Cam and it was a tank. It had all the power options too! I paid 1200 for it back then with low Km's (in Canada) and it had the engine already replaced. I drove it for 4 years put over 100k kms on it with some issues and a few tows to the shop but over all a decent car.
In 1998 I bought a used 1995 olds ciera sl with the 2.2. In 2003 at 120,000 it got a new head gasket. Also had the same noise this cavalier does.
Love the old car videos! These were everywhere with the geo meteos when i was in elementary i know everyone thinks they’re hideous but it would be cool to find a supercharged toyota previa and have it on the channel a bit!
I love 95-05 Cavaliers, I've owned 8 of them through the years, a couple automatice but mostly manuals.
Another great score Randy. Looks like this Cavalier was pretty well cared for other than being parked but definitely tons of work done. Can't wait for more videos on this one!👍
I had the Pontiac Sunfire 2dr with the same 2.2 liter engine and that thing was super reliable with zero major issues the ten years I had it. Only did regular maintenance on it. Loved that car
My first car was a 93 cavalier with the 2.2 same turquoise color, I also had a head gasket leak issue. Man I wish I could go back and drive it again just to bring back some memories when I was 17. My daughter is 16 now she just passed her license road test the first try yesterday, her first car is a 2010 Volvo S40 2.4i
I remember the dealership it was serviced at in Centereach. It closed and is now a Hyundai dealership. Looks good. I had a 1984 Cavalier wagon in white . I totalled it in an accident. I also had a 1988 Buick Skyhawk wagon in white. You never see those anymore.
When you’re recharging, you should flip the can upside down so the liquid can enter. Facing forward will make it only gas go in the will sit down at the bottom. Tips from Hvac.
I'm really loving these old cars. Bringing back so many memories. I had 3 or 4 of these cavaliers great cheap cars.
My mom had a 99 four door that she bought before I was born and owned until I was 13 or 14 years old. Was a great car
I've got one, coupe with the 2.4. I wish it was a convertible, it looks awesome.
I'm a big fan of the Cavalier, Monte Carlo and Camaro of the era.
I am a huge fan of your 95 and the color of it. I just bought an 02 sport coupe with a blown engine. It's a beautiful little car and well deserving of another engine
i can not wait to see you work on these cars you got, that you are planning to fix! love these first drives and the repairing of them! glad you got plenty to pick from to do that with now!
Many years ago I had a 96 Sunfire with the same engine. It always made a lot of top end engine noise, very similar to this cavalier. I never figured out why, but it always ran great and got amazing gas mileage. For what it was, it was a decent little car to drive.
Guy I worked with in 1998 bought one new, was red and had those same plastic bumpers. Nice car.
This car brings back some memories for me as well. I actually bought one of these that looked *almost* exactly like this one, 2 door, but it was a '97 and a different shade of green... but same kind of bumpers and everything. In 2014 I only paid 500 for it! It ran great! I mean it was starting to rust commonly around the rear wheels pretty bad, no A/C, it was rough.. but that f**ker was fun to kick around town. Good times lol friends and I called it the "crapalier" haha but it was actually not a bad car aside from the condition mine was in. Yours here is in alot better shape (except for the engine)
Winna' Winna', Chicken Dinna'
My dad owned a little Dodge (Mitsubishi). He cracked the cylinder head. We purchased a new head and transferred the cam and valves. New head gasket and it ran like new.
I bought my daughter a 2002 Cavalier her sophomore year at TAMU. She drove it until 2007. I bought it back from her and it had 44,000 miles. We used it as our beater car and pulled it behind an RV until 2013. Still under 50,000 miles. Gave it to my dad as a second car for him. He drove it until 2019 when he died! I donated it to a charity in Houston. Never any mechanical issues, but the green paint had worn off on hood roof, and trunk in blotches! Inside the plastics on the dash and plastic gear shift handle was duct tapped it on. It had less than 55,000 miles after all those years and didn’t need a brake job, ran great, but look worn out from the outside!
Love all the older vehicles please keep them coming.
Good Morning There My Good Little Bro Randy Lee Shear Of Auto Action Rebuilds
WTF? You know that watching someone in a few videos, doesn't mean that they're your mate. You're just one more subscriber and view towards making decent money.
@@EFFEZE- That is actually Randy's brother. They had a falling out many years ago. He usually says Hi to Randy in most every video!
I had a wagon, a 91. My first new car. Bought it from military sales before I came back from the Philippines and picked it up south of San Francisco. Got it to my parents house and my niece immediately dropped her bike on the hood so I got a nice, deep gouge in my new cars paint.
I got a 02 just replaced tires, brakes, fuel pump, filter, plugs , headlights an other stuff its a fun car
Keep it up Randy we love the content we love it!
One of our elderly neighbors had the first purple one in the promotional video.. When she stopped driving I believe it had around 50k a few years ago. It still looked new. Had always been washed and garaged.
Loving the commercials and car fax report.
Hey Randy, I just saw your video on your new purchase that you showed us today. Can’t wait to see your new video on it that you’re going to fix the cylinder head on this new car that you got can’t wait to see the next video buddy I hope you have a great day. Talk to you soon.
These, the 4 doors anyway, were the vehicle of choice for my local driving school. You can imagine how sluggish those were with all 5 seats occupied. Some of the most frightening moments of my life were in the back seat observing other drivers during driver's ed.
I had a 98 Z24, these notoriously run warm the T-STAT doesn't open until about 215F. I threw a lower temp T-STAT in and it helped a lot, granted I had the 2.4 but I miss that car, very fun to drive and reliable. Should have kept it but sold it for $300 in 2019, bought it in 2015 with 170k immaculate example, kick myself everyday.
I had a 99 Cavalier 4dr. And during the 14 years I had it it threw 3 timing chains. And it always has regular time ups, and oil changes it too had the 2.2 4clndr
Friend and my cousin had this gen cavlair, great cars. I almost got one myself but sold before. Great cars
I love when you add the old commercials!
I remember test driving a 97 back in ‘01 with the manual. It already had 110K then. Seemed like a real nice basic car. I ended up having a low mileage ‘96 Saturn SL2 then and it was a really good econo car, actually quite a bit sportier but both were some nice basic 90’s rides. Always wanted an Accord also somewhere from ‘86-‘97 just for how nice they were back then, but never bought one
My wife's first car was a 4 door 95 Cavalier, same color as that! Over 300,000 km but had to let it go. Frame had deteriorated in the back.
Randy check the serpentine belt tensioner sometimesThey will make a top end like sound or possibly loose heat shield
Y'know I think that cavalier ad has a point on the shocks, I still have the original shocks of my 97 on and they work perfectly somehow
Man I'm a younger guy and I love them old cavaliers very beautiful representation of one
The interior cloth reminds me of our old 2000 corolla with that same design
Man you really need like a 12 car garage to keep all your favorite old school cars haha.
Good morning sir. She needed some freon and needs to circulate thru system and she needs to be ran so fluids can flow thru system again. She may need some Molly and could run better with it.😊👍🙏
What a treat. My first brand new car was a 99 coupe in white. The tag read: "$11,808 after all incentives" . It had the upgraded 4 speed auto with traction control, of course the ABS, body side moldings, body colored bumpers, spoiler [part of option package 1 or 2] .
I've always considered it one of GM's better designs in two door form, in the same vein as the 65-69 Corvair two door hard top.
It got wiped out after 5 years, freshly paid off and detailed waiting at a stop light going to work in a rear ender at 5 am. It's still mourned and odds are it would still be in my driveway judging by it's replacement's 20th anniversary this January. No 05 Cavaliers by that point and the then new Cobalts were all overpriced and over-optioned or I would have replaced it with another Chevrolet. So it was followed by another GM FWD relative to the Cobalt, the ION at a better price than the Cobalts on offer and not that much more than what I had paid of the 99 Cavalier
50,000 miles and just 1 recall, no problems. Maintained like it was some sort of prestige luxury car. Such a burn.
It owed it's purchase to the 84 Citation II notchback I had owned earlier in the decade and really loved. Similar size and shape. And that owed it's purchase to having driven my Father's 84 Oldsmobile Ciera and realizing what a nice car it was. The whole GM X, A, J, N, L platform back story was fascinating.
There was something really honest about it. I loved the yester-tech of the OHV engine and the fact that the platform still had it's roots in the original 82, [though for 95 60% of it was all new].
Thanks for featuring this. Makes me want another one and go backwards for a daily driver. Even though the 05 only has 85,000 miles on it after all these years.... if I found the right 95-2002 Cavalier.....
This car confuses me: This is a base coupe but that's the upper trim LS "Sport Cloth" seat upholstery. The base seat cloth looked like seaweed, yet the car has the base car's grey bumpers. The spoiler, also from upper level RS type models, but both it and the sun roof, like the cruise, seem like aftermarket. An electric sunroof was offered on the coupe, but not a manual.
What was the manufacturer's date of this car? IIRC Chevrolet was slow to get off the mark in manufacturing even though they came from three factories: Lordstown, OH, Lansing MI and Mexico.
I saw a base coupe at the LA Auto Show when they first came out and wanted one from that point forward.

I could watch these all day. Randy your awesome 🤟🔥
Fun fact as a current owner of a 97 cavalier with the 2.2 when they sit and idel the temp creeps a little bit but goes back down when driving man I love these old 2.2s! Also I don't think of these cars still have working A/C with no leaks or issues 😂
My Saturn RL quad coupe manual in the picture was a 2.2 echo tech and not 1 single issue except 1 clutch replacement but car 187k miles when I sold it for $800 in 2021
I've had in the past two Pontiac sunfires 2005. Both of them the twin to the cavalier both made it to 300,000 MI with basically no major issues. They had the 2.2 ecotec
I owned a 2000 black on black cavalier and that car was awesome. My first brand new car I picked and bought on my own. I miss it so much but I don’t think it’s a head gasket, it didn’t overheated at all when you turned on the AC, I think you got a bad lifter or lifters.
Such a cool old car, I love these 90’s cars
