Hi Gang,
I’m embarking on yet another a new adventure, a series of weekly online offerings - kitchen-table videos of songs and stories and more. Since they’ll be coming out of my kitchen in Rockport, Mass, I thought I’d call them “Rockport Sundays”, after that instrumental I recorded way back when.
I hope you will join me.

I was actually at this concert.. soooo great and my first time seeing Tom live! Can’t believe it’s been 17 years.
How must it feel to have written such a classic song!
I first heard this song back in 1964. It was the first Tom Rush song I learned. THIS song is the ultimately saddest song I've ever known. When my totally beautiful wife left without reason seven years ago, it became the anthem of my loniless.
Somethings reach us for a lifetime, never to be forgotten. They change us. Integrated into our beingness, like the color of our eyes.
Thank You Tom. I'm sure did not have me in mind when you wrote this song, but you've been in mine since.
OMG, I was going to write the same thing. If you take this song as a "leaving" song instead of a "breakup song", then the sadness of a loved one leaving in death is totally applicable. I tear up every time I hear it. I appears you wrote your comment 13 years ago, but nothing has changed.
Your comment sums up this beautiful song perfectly. I love it for similar reasons.
Your very lovely thoughts and this song will be with me also. Love and peace to you 💕
74?
I can still see her walking away
I saw him last month. If anything his voice was better then than on this version of that song. He is a perennial favorite and never disappoints. Still going strong and his love for his work shines through.
Pure poetry
This song belongs to my three all-time-favourites. There is no other song with such a simple but pure beauty. It still makes me cry almost everytime I listen to it. And I don't know any voice, that is more magical than Tom's.
By the way, I'm 25 and from Germany. So you don't have to be an 'old hippie' to enjoy the greatness of this music.
Love you Tom.
I'm an old hippy, 73, and still love this song, it's timeless!
I’m happy to know that young people can appreciate this song. I sometimes worry that only old people appreciate things from the past.
Magical. Love his songs
Good man xx
and the other 2 are ?
He sings the best studio version of this song. If you haven't heard the studio version, you must hear it. He wraps his voice around each sad sentiment in an amazing way.
How about a link to it..?
Really great!
saw this man many times in Cambridge...
Club 47.
He wrote the song, and he owns it.
AMAZING SONG!
Love is delightful when she is near and dear; divorce is daunting and dark. No doubt.
Tom Rush’s “No Regrets” is the best and most melancholy break-up song I have ever heard. A masterpiece. The music and the lyrics merge to deliver the kind of searing devastation that descends upon a man when she walks out the door.
No regrets. Sure, sure. Keep saying it.
When I was 16 years old I lived in Hillsboro, Hampshire just over the hill from Tom Rush home. My girlfriend (1st Love) and I would go to Dearing, NH to lay on the grass in the town center. Tom Rush would put on free charity concerts for the town. Tom was very much a part of my girlfriend and I musical romance, After I left for the my enlistment in the US Navy in 1975. And I knew my love was over. This song echoed in my head for days and months. About a year latter while on leave, I ran up to he house excited to see my girl. He mom welcomed me in and told me She had cried and cried after I left for the Navy. but over time she regained her passion and met another local man. Her mother said I should not interfere and please stay away, Not to see her. I did what her mother wanted me to do. Hence I went home and pulled out my Little Tommy Rush LP's from under the bed. blew off the dust and thought and cried alittle at what might have been. we were together 1973-1975. They fond dreams, I was on top of the world with my girl. Thank you Tommy Rush.
Tom Rush performs the version of this song. Simply the best!
A noble and dignified performance of an achingly gorgeous song
Tom Rush is as good today as he was at the start of his carrear. My only regret in life was never seeing him perform live.

This has to be one the saddest and most poignant songs ever written. Every line is so simple, yet rings so true...
Tom....you have been with me for decades.....if its possible to love a man from his words.....i love you....peace always
Just saw him again in Clearwater Fl. One again GREAT PERFORMANCE. Iv'e seen in many times over the years from NH to Fl. and I'm sure I'll see him again. THANKS TOM
This is the best live version of his signature song.
People still think that it's a walker brothers song. I love their version, but this is the dogs 🐕
Beautiful song
When I was a lad of 15, the Walker Brothers were only known to me for their rendition of perhaps their biggest hit, 'The Sun Ain' t Gonna Shine Any More'.
Along came '75, and they sing this song, a definitive wrenching rock ballad that I appreciated greatly.
Now, at the age of 48, I find this, and this, perhaps,is the way I always wanted to hear this song...
My words mean nothing, but this for me is superlative.
Many, many thanks for this. Peace.
Peace be with you too
I attended college in Maine in the late 1960s, when I was introduced to Tom's music . I always thought there was such soulful, meaningful, nostalgic though crystalline quality to his poetry and music. This song, and "Urge for Going" always take me back to the cold fall evenings in the Maine woods to simpler, more joyous times. I am able to say that I am beginning to realize one of my dreams, which is to play and sing both songs with one of my acoustic guitars.
I think I first saw him at the University of Maine in Orono in 1969 or 70. Cried my wY through the Circle Game. Have seen him recently on Cape Cod. Still a great entertainer.
@@walterkosloski621my O my I was at that performance too. Small world ;) take care Walter memories :)
Actually should check this more often. Love him more now that I've aged.
Many years ago I had the pleasure of enjoying this talented artist perform at a high school gym such a talent No regrets a true Gem
Tom is my favorite singer - not only because of his voice but because of his choice of music. You just gotta love this guy!
tom rush ????. where have i been what a tune! walkers take some beating
Been a fan of Tom Rush since 1967. Never got to see him in Australia, but if and when i get to US i will go wherever he is playing to see him. Unfortunately cost of air fares make it tough just for a concert, so i will stick with his records for now. This version is a stunner i so envy those people in the audience.
On the bucket llist.See Tom Rush live.
Stunning. I saw Tom Rush perform in Sudbury, Ontario of all places (one of the most desolate landscapes in the world then). He left his mark. The Circle Game album is timeless. I treasure it.
What a blessed man that can take blues and make folks happy.
Unconditional love- knowing that no matter how you grieve or how unrecognizable your life- if your love is better off moving on- you don’t regret letting them.
still a pure reflection of the period. I move to NYC in 1967. We were all so young and flowing in our lives. No regrets!
Snuck into a club in Toronto many years ago when I was about 13 and was just mezmerized by Tom Rush. All these years later I can close my eyes and I'm back in the Riverboat. Great Stuff!!!
Success is fleeting, talent is everlasting, anyone who has not bought Toms new album "What I know" is missing out on more of the same from this truly gifted songsmith. Anyone living stateside, you dont know how lucky you are to be able to get to a concert. I would love the chance to see him unfortunately there is a rather large pond between Ireland and the states stopping me at the moment. Teddy O'Neill Dublin.
Tom Rush used to perform at the old Salt (Bar) back in the late '70s and we'd always go there to listen to him; he still sounds great throughout the years. Such a beautiful song..
Saw Tom perform this last year at Pepe's Cafe in Key West.
Sad to learn he could not make it this year...its was one of the few things I looked forward to.
This man is amazing. I have nothing but respect for him
Bartender AL
Such a great song, I first heard it on AFN in Germany in 1972 or 73 . I went to every LP-Shop in cologne and at last I was so proud having found this wonderful record. It is still one of my favourits..
Saddest song ever! Makes my tears steam! Always think of my first love.
no dry eyes on me when I listen to this
It's true you live and learn. An hour ago I would have sworn this was a Scott Walker original. Brilliant
I always liked Tom's voice and his choice of songs. Spoke to him over ten years ago when I was visiting MA - got to see him in concert in an old church - beautiful!
Had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Rush a few times since '72-a good man...,good shows, a sense of humor...,helped get Miss Joni Mitchell's and Jackson Browne's music out there way back when...
So eloquent, pure and true! An emotional trip for anyone who has been on that road! Thank you Tom, as always peace and love
Listening here in the UK. glad I found this fantastic song. Sung by the composer. Fabulous.
I never tire of listening to this beautiful song, and I've listened to it a thousand times since I first heard it on the original vinyl - and I've had the joy of seeing/hearing you, Tom, perform it live at the Ram's Head in Annapolis. Never ever stop giving us beautiful music.
As a teen in the 60s I heard this song and Dylan's "Ballad In Plain D" late one night on WNEW-FM in New York and my world shifted.
I haven't seen him since the 70's and he still has "IT" Beautiful voice, great guitar work and perfect performance.
Amen... Tom is as welcome today as forty years ago. One of those artists you glimpse the album and sigh, settle back for an over do visit with an old friend. Thanks again old friend.
This is one of the most poignantly beautiful songs to come out of a great era of songwriting. After forty years, it is as moving today as it was the first time I heard it. No one does it better than Tom.
Saw Tom at Schooner Wharf in Key West about 10 years ago. Best part, I didn't know he was playing that night. Just walked in ordered up a beer and they announced, "tonight we have a special guest, Mr. Tom Rush". You know, some times you just gotta look up in the sky and say "Thank you, God!" Pure magic!
Thats always the best. Totally unexpected
A trifecta; this, Joan Armatrading's 'Love and Affection', and Cliff Richard's 'Miss You Nights' might just be the only three love songs you ever need...
Joan Armatrading. Love her but the songs bring alot of memories Id like to forget
Tom you have been my favorite musician for 40 years.
once again a performer of music that demonstrates that the love of of music and I do mean LOVE ...which gives a fudamental difference to not only the performance but the reaction to all that have the sheer god given luckto have chanced upon such performances...when listening to music being performed at what ever level if the performer is playing for the music
Great song... always gets me in the gut!
Perfect. The definitive version, for me. Thanks, Tom.
Poignant!
What a song! If you only wrote one in your life this one would do nicely. The words resonate with a past memory which still visits me from time to time, bringing sadness, but softer than it used to be.
SOULJAH ROCKER
So nice to hear someone you can understand the words and the music has a message. Bravo!
I saw him at Juanita's in Little Rock, Arkansas, and again in Lowville, NY. He can make you laugh. He can make you cry.
This song bring back so many memories...he still sounds great after al these years. I hope I can see him play in person sometime.
I first heard this song, recorded by McKendree Spring, at college(Kent State) in 1971. I have a couple of their albums. Love the music.
I saw McKendree Spring perform at My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY around that same time. Highlight that evening was their version of No Regrets. My regret is not having seen Tom Rush in concert.
To think James Taylor and Joni Mitchell were once lucky to have songs recorded by Tom Rush... And his versions still are definitive, for those who heard them.
From the first time I heard this song in college in a small New England town in the late 60s, this song, and 'Rockport Sunday' by Tom Rush I have been mystified. I play the guitar (maybe) and I recently learned that Tom plays both of these songs in open C. These days, one of my acoustic guitars is tuned to open C. Yes!
JUST BRILLIANT, ONE OF THE BEST EVER ARTISTS TO GRACE THIS PLANET
saw Tom at Bethlehem NH a few times in the 70's. I was living in Littleton nh at the time. Great guy small crowd but he enjoyed our company. Thanks Tom. Saw you later in life at Boarding House Lowell, Ma. Still great.
Mass Maritime Academy here....and we all went to sea and all the women broke our hearts..But..we had no regrets at all...Loved him at Merrimack College
one great voice, one guitar, perfect
I used to see Tom Rush at Club 47 in Cambridge way back when. He was a favorite of mine then and is a favorite of mine today.
Been to a several of his shows and they only get better
This amazing song is almost spoken, thanks Tom.
such a music gives happyness and sense to life!!
being out there in a car, driving alone with that music trough the desert world..it´s always a cliché, but they give it to life!! like love, of course a cliché in that way((:
greetings to all, that just travel away right know with their hearts listening to this song here..
first on my desert island songs ,brilliant.1
Can't get enough of Tom's amazing tunes. Keep on putting them out ol buddy.
A Classic
Does anyone have any footage of Tom Rush back in the 60s or 70s? I was in love from the first time I heard him and he's still got it. I would love to see the vision of the circa 1970 Tom performing again.
Tom Rush is my favourite folk musician and a continuing inspiration to me in the face of musical adversity. But I'm genuinely suprised to see him play an epiphone.
I wish I still had that album... his voice was layered right on top of a crack band..the guitar solo was/is incredible..
a great memory
This song brings back bittersweet memories of the sixties. Beautiful. Nadine
Stunning song....Tom, you are the best!
Thanks Tom...
you are classic and worthy of praise.
I found this song after watching the movie "No Regrets'. I love the song and this version!!
Saw Tom in Deering and Peterborough NH. So hope he comes back!!!
Rekindled some long-dormant memories. Wow.
Powerful Heart felt song, No Regrets, The Circle Game and Tim Buckley's Buzzin'Fly. excites the soul
Classic folk song!
Just saw him in the Payomet in Truro. Mesmerizing! Thank you Mr. Rush.
WOW
Wonderful song by the composer.
Great voice & delivery!
One of the 10 hurtingest sad songs ever. Ever.
WOW
Wonderful song by an incredible singer.
Amazing sounds & so,so good.
One of my faves from back in the day.
A new friend I still never had. Thanks for sharing your music here.
always wonderful
He's still got it. Amazing!
So glad my buddy is always posting Tom Rush videos on Facebook. Every time I click on one I end up watching/ listening to a dozen.
Interesting to read comparison comments about the song ! I was more familiar with The Walker Brothers version , and this original is very different but then the ability to be able take a song and change it to something quite different speaks volumes about the quality of the song writing , and what a great , heartfelt song this is ! Never had a chance to see either Tom or The Walker Brothers in concert ( now there's a regret ! ) Thanks for posting it !
Been a fan since the first time I heard you on the circle game album...baby Hippee days
How good was that !!
Love this song....still!
Still have the original vinyl of Ladies Love Outlaws. Makes me feel we aren’t old at all to pull it out and play it like it’s yesterday. 🥰
I'm afraid I don't have any footage of Tom in his heyday, but I do have a pleasant memory of him performing at the Cellar Door in Washington, DC, around 1969-70. The setting was perfect, and he was superb. Very friendly with the audience, too, as I recall.
Thank you sir. And I'll prolly check your channel now and then as I enjoy listening to some nice music now and again. Take care now and thanks again
Did not realize it was a Tom song knew it only from the Walker Brothers, great song.
The Walkers bros surely made the second best version of this great song ; The totally forgotten Shirley Bassey version is absolutely amazing !
