      Awh, thanks so much! We hope to keep making them! Need to take a short break soon to work some and get a jump on boat projects/filming. But hope to be back soon with some winter sailing content and some bigger boat projects to get ready for Alaska this Spring (if all goes to plan)🤞🏽

    You are the first of the sailing vlogs (that I’ve seen) that have touched on the notion that sea mammals, with echo location, are curious of hydro-dynamic shapes (other than fish) and respond. Great insight!

    Excellent sail on this episode ! Congrats on your first off-shore adventure.
    Love the Orca encounter and so glad to know that in the PNW there are no concerns about Orcas attacking the rudder. Orcas are wonderful creatures and so incredibly intelligent.
    James, I’m not exactly sure what to say about your fishing exploits but catching your anchor rode is definitely one fishing story that is worth embellishing 😂 .

    Now that you’ve done that bit of off-shore you are ready for the west coast of Vancouver Island. Most of the hops between inlets are less than 50 miles so it’s just a matter of watching the weather.

    I love the whales and it was the last time i was on boats . 2002 with Prince Of Whales of the Victoria water front .2005 Out of Vancouver and met the whales in Active pass . Tide change made me a little dizzy .2011 on land in 2011 at French beach . Same day same group of whales swam right under my feet on the breakwater in Victoria . Seen them a few years later near the breakwater .Walked it yesterday and seen star fish ,, So warm with the pineapple express .Enjoy the week and hope you don't get to much water were you are .

      Beautiful! We always hear about whales down in Active Pass! Seeing them up close and in the wild is just an incredible experience. Funny story, yesterday on my way to the store I spotted a big black dorsal fin swimming just a few meters offshore, I followed it down the beach and two other whales surfaced, what appeared to be a mother and calf. Looked exactly like the whales we encountered in this vid just100nm North-west if here. Crazy coincidence?

    Big fish! LOL
    I have to say I noticed you sail often (it seems) with the chain locker open and the Rocna just "sitting there", that might bite you at some point.
    One rogue wave and that anchor could go bashing around.
    Cheers,
    a.

    • @AllisonandJamesSailing
      @AllisonandJamesSailing  8 місяців тому +5

      Great big fishy! Yeah you may have noticed we don’t have a bow roller and our anchor locker doesn’t have a hatch. Rogue waves not generally an issue for us in the inside passage but certainly something to consider when sailing offshore. We’ve been planning an entire ‘bow refit’. Hoping to tick that off the big boat list in the near future, cheers!

    Congratulation 🎉. I used to sail from Campbell River and Duncan. Moved 14 years ago back to Switzerland due to political correctness bs. Currently I am preparing a 33 Ft Sailboat to Sail from Mallorca, Spain to Vancouver Island. I can't wait to see all, what you experience. Most of all, you truly are both an inspiration. A very, very simple, old Sailboat, not even an Anchor winch. And yet your heart and stamina are always a great joy and inspiration to watch. I really, really love your channel the most. You are natural, no overdoing it just simply REALITY, JOY AND TRUTH.

    Another wonderful video showcasing the beauty and variety of terrain and conditions that one can expect sailing on the northern BC coast! I’m curious why your boat doesn’t have a cover over the anchor locker? Have you ever taken “green water” over the bow that flooded the locker for a few minutes until it slowly drained away, and if so how does this affect your stability and ability to ride over (rather than through) head seas? Also there seems to be no bow roller for the anchor rode? Whenever I hear your anchor chain rattling over the gunwale I can’t help but think the gelcoat there must be getting gnarled away?

    • @AllisonandJamesSailing
      @AllisonandJamesSailing  11 днів тому

      Yep! There is no anchor roller, which is why we keep our hook tucked away in the anchor locker. The roll bar doesn’t fit with the cover on, so we removed it :) never had any issues with stability, in rough seas we lash the anchor down to the bow cleats. The gel coat (sadly) is taking some damage but luckily that’s all fixable down the track! Cheers!
