Be honest......how many of us have done the Diana/Adam 'flinging our arms up and down' dance at some point during the 40+ years since this song was #1 in the UK charts? Whether that be at a wedding, a retro 80s night etc.....or in our own bedrooms as kids all those yonks ago!
I think it was brilliant for them to give the great British icon Diana Dors this wonderful glamorous part in what was the twilight of her fantastic career (she passed away in 1984).
My husband and I saw Adam and the ants play live at hofstra college in new York, long island in 1983, I think that was the year. They were great. I have forgotten how beautiful Adam ant is (he still looks good today in his 60's), and love the way he moves. So talented. Loved their style of dress, hair, and this song is so original and I am trying to live by lyrics "ridicule is nothing to be scared of". The eighties were great, so glad my husband and I were there and young to enjoy it. Adam and the ants were one of our favorite bands, and they still sound good today!

Are you serious?? Come on. I watched this when I was 16, 17 years old and fell in love with "Adam". Splitting up laughing now I watch it again. The colours are too bright, and I can spot the gold painted cardboard from here!!😂 Musically it seemed to get interesting, with the combi of north-American indian tribal music and pop. But the first album was disappointing and I never bought the second one. It was fun but to call it genius is in my view ridiculous.
She still looked beautiful. Sad that she died not long after. Just love her as the fairy godmother, a twist on the Cinderella story, Adam Ant becomes the prince. I wished she appeared in more music videos.

"Prince Charming" was a number one single in the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in September 1981 for Adam and the Ants, featured on the album of the same name. Written by Marco Pirroni and the Ants, it was their second number one single. Fellow band member and co-producer Merrick (Chris Hughes), normally on drums, played a stirring riff on an open-tuned acoustic guitar throughout the song; lead guitarist Pirroni mimed to this part on both an orchestral harp and a miniature version of the instrument in the promotional video, which was based on the pantomime Cinderella. The music video was also notable for its extravagant production. It featured a swashbuckling Adam Ant, in flamboyant Regency clothes, performing a much imitated arm-crossing dance. Diana Dors, in one of her last on-screen performances, appeared in the video as a Fairy Godmother.
You also forgot to mention, it wa also a hit single in Sweden, Holland, Austria, + Australia. + the album of the same name was also a hit in them countries i mentioned!
Imagine being a ten and a half year old kid, a bit shy, a bit socially awkward (or 'weird' as we used to call it in the 80s) growing up in a shithole town in the north west of England, in a low income family with your dad out of work and your mum just about keeping things together with a part-time cleaning job, two years into Thatcher's demolition of the UK's social fabric, with seemingly the whole country reinforcing the message that you're nothing now and you will never be anything. Then imagine how it felt to turn on the telly and see some super fucking cool, utterly beautiful man, dressed like a cross between a Regency dandy and a decadent pirate, tell you 'ridicule is nothing to be scared of'. Cheers Adam.
You've made me shed a tear. If I could reach out over the internet (and the intervening years since you posted this) I'd give you a hug. Just beautiful. Thank you.

I fricking love my hometown of Columbus (Ohio!). Whilst window shopping in an alternative-funky cool side of town, this was playing overhead. Well naturally, I was seriously getting into it! Pretty soon I look over and a fabulous fellow Ant maniac started doing the dance with me! We made $3!!! Lmao
I LOVE this song soooo much! I watched the documentary about Adam and his Bipolar disorder and the woman that choreographed the danced moves said that each one means a different thing.
I loved this so much! I was a huge Adam and the Ants fan. This epitomises my early teen years. Yes, I'm 56. So what? Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.
Takese me back to the 80s we loved this guy he was the fabric of our time.brings a tear how our youth gone in a flash.. enjoy your early years kids because you will wake up old sooner than you think.😢
Adam Ant was and still is a fabulous entertainer. I've seen many of his live shows and he never fails to get a venue rocking. And this is from a lady a similar age to him. Still my ambition to meet him, just for a hug and a big Thank You.
So fucking catchy. Have loved it since I was 13. 40 years ago... "Simple" lyrics, but not simple, and the music is so - tight, so perfect. It still stands above most music made today, and delivers!
I was a mere 6 years old when this came out and I was utterly captivated by the luscious Diana Dors, and its thanks to this vid that I was introduced to the wonders of ladies of a larger stature. Also this song is the absolute bollocks, an absolute 80's classic!!
What a dream; fairy god-mum Diana Dors gives me a Daimler. Very few people look as good as Stuart (Adam) in the Regency outfit (lip-gloss, tight crotch and all). Ms. Dors still could captivate. It was one of her final appearances on-screen, sigh.
"We don't care what they think, darling! Ridicule is nothing to be scared of!" I thank Absolutely Fabulous for prominently using this song, as I might never have discovered it and it's meaning.
I was never a huge fan of AbFab, but I thought it was pretty cool of them to use this song. I also like that they used Wheel on Fire for their theme song. I know Siouxsie and the Banshees wasn't the first band to perform the song, but it is one of my favorite songs they play.
His video budget was big big! Swinging from chandeliers, Diana Dors, smoke clouds, panthers, exotic cars, costumes, everything! He is so handsome and oozed charisma.

He was the first to make a movie-like video, with Stand and Deliver.

Loved this. Especially Diana Dors as the fairy and the panther. 🥰
1:10 the blonde lady is Diana Dors, who was on the cover of The Smiths Singles album. She was a British "Marilyn Monroe" type actress
I thought it was Mae West for a minute!! First time I've seen the video in yeeeeears
Vevo, you're supposed to be a professional music service - and this is the sound quality you bring us?!
The rhythms in all his songs were incredible
Adam Ant was and still is a fabulous entertainer. I've seen many of his live shows and he never fails to get a venue rocking. And this is from a lady a similar age to him. Still my ambition to meet him, just for a hug and a big Thank You.
So fucking catchy. Have loved it since I was 13. 40 years ago... "Simple" lyrics, but not simple, and the music is so - tight, so perfect. It still stands above most music made today, and delivers!
Well said brother Jah love Jah Jerry Jah rastafari Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🏜🌍🍄🍋🍄🥕🍄🍒🍄🍆🍄🌶🍄🥒🍄🫒🌍🌵🌵🌵
That dance too, we all copied it at school
My father showed me this song when I was a child...
God, I still love Adam.
all the times I have watched this and never noticed the harp changing size from one shot to the next!
I was a mere 6 years old when this came out and I was utterly captivated by the luscious Diana Dors, and its thanks to this vid that I was introduced to the wonders of ladies of a larger stature. Also this song is the absolute bollocks, an absolute 80's classic!!
Wish I could click like multiple times ....
I'd recommend The Staple Singers - Come Go With Me, for that!
What a dream; fairy god-mum Diana Dors gives me a Daimler. Very few people look as good as Stuart (Adam) in the Regency outfit (lip-gloss, tight crotch and all). Ms. Dors still could captivate.
It was one of her final appearances on-screen, sigh.
it so sad she died from cancer three years after this at 52 she was a national treasure
Diana dors a reel man's woman and beautiful
Now that's how you make a music video... FANTASTIC!!!
Brilliant. One of the classics of the 80’s 😊
"We don't care what they think, darling! Ridicule is nothing to be scared of!"
I thank Absolutely Fabulous for prominently using this song, as I might never have discovered it and it's meaning.
I was never a huge fan of AbFab, but I thought it was pretty cool of them to use this song. I also like that they used Wheel on Fire for their theme song. I know Siouxsie and the Banshees wasn't the first band to perform the song, but it is one of my favorite songs they play.
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome
Brilliant song &video. Diana Dors is wonderful
Diana dors was absolutely stunning. What a beauty 💜💜💜💜
Yes. A gorgeous and incredibly talented woman. She was definitely one of a kind.
His video budget was big big! Swinging from chandeliers, Diana Dors, smoke clouds, panthers, exotic cars, costumes, everything! He is so handsome and oozed charisma.
That video cost £50,000
Still here in 2024 ❤and luving it 😊
And still loving ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ it 😀 😄 😊 😉 😜 in 2024!

It all looked so intimidating back in the day, but I got to like all this new romantic stuff, bring back this dandy highway man!
This song is the 80s
My favourite single of the 80s
