    While I wasn’t not on the market for another camping knife I’ll be getting one to support those guys.

    I have the Savage, adventurer, HK5 and the little 15 dollar scandi. I bought them all about 1 year and a few months ago and I believe I paid under 30 bucks each for the 3 and the one was 15 bucks. So like 115 dollars with tax total for 4 VERY good quality knives, absolutely unbelievable deals. Their 1066 is tough as hell, the edge retention is respectable bit keep in mind it's a super tough but relatively soft carbon steel so on abrasive mediums it's going to kill the edge quick but it also takes back an edge almost effortlessly on any abrasive of your choosing and if you have damaged the edge a simple strop and some 9 micron diamond compound and you can pretty much bring it back from completely dull to shaving so long as you haven't rolled the apex. All in all, you really can't beat them and your getting your monies worth and then some, even the sheaths are nice high quality well sewed thick leather.
    For the quality you get it's hard to believe they can sell them and the sheath for as cheaply as they do. Just in case you can't tell this girl really loves BPS knives and have been praising them to everyone on my knife IG that will listen for over a year.

    P.S. I have since picked up the Savage, and I am very happy with the knife. It will be my go to knife for camping. And yes, I took the handle scales off and found rust. I also had to do some finish sanding to the wooden handle scales, and then putting on another coat of boiled Linseed oil. Stay safe and keep em sharp.

      Bog Oak is interesting stuff. It refers to an Oak tree that has fallen over and sunk into a bog, which is not a swamp. There the wood is "Preserved" and darkened. Furniture builders and musical instrument makes love Bog Oak, because it usually has a tighter grain. I love my Savage.

    Just a heads up, I own a BPS knife, the BS1FTS. I took the handle scales off and found rust. Not to much to worry about, I took a sanding sponge and cleaned it up. So not to much of an issue. Just thought you should know. FYI, Bog Oak, is wood of the Oak, found in a Bog, where it has more or less been preserved. Could be hundreds of years old wood. My mother has a spinning wheel made of Bog Oak, from a bog in Ireland. Just thought you should know.

    I just got one of these to use a a camp chef knife. It's worth the money, but needs refinement. I had to redo the spine because it was far from square. Also sanded the scales because they were pretty rough. It came sharp, but nothing to write home about.

    I wanted to support a local Ukraine company during these times, so got myself a Savage, though the scandi options were quite tempting too.

    Great video & channel. Subscribed. I could not hear you very well with the music playing. Just a helpful suggestion. I like the BPS line.
    I'm wondering if I can force a patina on the steel with gun blue or vinegar. I live off grid on Lake Champlain and the humidity is quite brutal on most if my knives. Especially my high carbon steels. Even with regular mineral oil.

    • @2ndchancegeorge
      @2ndchancegeorge  Рік тому

      Probably a good idea with the patina. As you anything Hugh carbon will struggle in humidity. The best way I am not sure. But I have noticed that these are very susceptible to humidity. But still a great knife. Working on the music thing thanks for the heads up. And support.

      Bichwood Casey Super Blue, its what I've used to refinish guns, and I've used it on a few knives. The more coats you apply the darker the finish. Should work for you nicely. Oh, and take the handle scales off so you can blue the tang. Good Luck.
