A Bacon CURRY from 1820s America? Let's Make It |Real Historic Recipes|

- A pork curry cooked in a mold from the 1823 cookbook American Domestic Cookery. Curry was a obsession in U.S. & England alike. Sometimes a noticeably western touch was added when cooking with traditionally Indian spices, as is seen here. Have you ever seen a curry dish like this?

Watching and listening to this it's like going back in time it's fantastic going back in time
Kinda dangerous to have a cat hanging around an open fire isn't it?
The addition of a cat observing you cook is just the best. ♡
@melon8659 - agreed.
Agreed!!! 😻
My cats always look around when your cat talks to you
He can smell bacon!
i ❤ the 🐈⬛! Give him some cream!
You and your husband's content is unmatched. I find myself transported away from all the fears that life brings. I feel calm and enjoy my life that much more. That is a lovely looking meal. Congratulations of the bowl toss / flip. 💟💟
They’re engaged. Not married yet
@@Ladypuppy510 Oh is that right, they're engaged. Well I wish they an eternity of gorgeous times together.
Agree
I agree completely.
Well said 👏
I love that kitten! ❤️🐈⬛🇨🇦
I love the addition of your cat!! She makes your cabin a home. ❤
Truth!
As a kid i used to love the style and food of early America shown in movies and shows but seeing you make that food really is amazing.
In my problematic, beggarly survival, sometimes there is no time, no strength, no health to watch videos on my favorite channels, but know one thing that I adore you both, and wish you all the best in your life and all God's blessings on you !!😃🥰🥰🥰
I absolutely love these videos! So nice to see how things were made back then. Thank you so much Justine for making these videos.
I watched the cat on the roof scene over and over 😂 Justine's reaction and mood is priceless 😂 🐈⬛
My cat was on the neighbors roof this summer. I looked in shock at how she got up there before I slowly closed the door and said… that ain’t my cat 😂.
Had a cat who would get on the neighbors house and scream for me to go get him. I would drive my car to the side of the house and he would jump on car to get down from the roof. 🙄
@@cassandraapollo8656 🤣😂
Mish Mish has quickly become the star of the show....How can you not love her?????
Would have never guessed this dish would be around back then. MishMish is a cutie!
I think cooking🍳was so much more of an art back then.
💖💖💖
MishMish is a sweetheart and I can tell he's bonded with you Justine 🖤
Where has this channel been all my life! It calms me. I watch it before work to ease my mind.
Your videos are so soothing.
That looks so good. I thought of you while we had our artic blast. Our power went out for a bit and I took out my pie irons and sat by the fireplace and made soup and pies. I'm looking forward to the King's ball this year. Blessings!
Hello I came across your videos not to long ago and I love watching them! It's so relaxing and makes me think how I would love to have been from those times. You and your husband are so sweet and work so hard showing us what it was like to live in the 1800's.
I've watched 17,364 hours of Justine cooking, 6,419 hours of the hungry bear eating her cooking, 5,397 hours of you guys talking, serving food, using tools and utensils, 274 hours of drama specials, and I only now, for the first time, saw something unique to 21st century and 19th century, Justine has perfect finger nails. Justine+Roof+MishMish=Gold.
The way you are responding.. you really did waste your whole life watching her videos like a discord mod.
It’s really interesting to see how the early American dishes were flavorful. Every time I watch channel, I learn something new.😊
I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and I wanted to take a moment to commend you on just how incredible your content is! The decor, atmosphere, wonderful ASMR sounds, and the old-fashioned cooking (precisely following original receipts!); it's all just so enjoyable to watch!

What a beautiful kitten! Thank you for being kind!
Justine, I don't know why you were nervous... I don't think I've ever seen anything you've ever made turn out badly! It's always fantastic and beautiful! Love you guys... Happy holidays. Have a wonderful new year! I look forward to more awesome old timey content from you guys!
I just love this. the dish looks yummy and my heart is full that you gave this sweet little girl a loving home. she loves and trusts you so much. thank you for your kind heart.
This one I find absolutely fascinating. I've done a little bit of cooking from medieval period cookbooks so I'm not a stranger to being surprised by foods, spices, or even cooking techniques that I didn't know were even in obscure use, much less common use in those days. This one has me completely perplexed! Every single element of this dish is something I like to eat but would've NEVER thought to combine in this fashion. Thanks again Justine! And yes, it was funny to hear you talk in this one when you usually don't talk in these cooking videos!
How unique and, no doubt, delicious.
That looked good! The cabin looks so cozy and festive and you're going to miss it so much when your beautiful new home is built. So happy for you and Ron. Thanks, Justine and Mishmish! xoxo
Love the look on your face when you pop it put of the dish lol true success
I was so nervous that the whole thing would just fall apart 😆
To me its so good watch all the work and tools that the early american used to cook. Greetings from Brazil.
What an interesting dish and very exotic for the time period. I love your videos and watching you make your delicious recipes. I absolutely adore your new kitty too! Such a beauty!
I always enjoy your videos. Every one has something surprising and unique to the time, and am surprised by the variety of the recipes. Thank you!
Little Apricot is both beautiful and talented !!
I'm always so happy when someone knows the meaning of her name.
Your cat is so, so cute. I had a black cat just like her years ago. She looks so divine against that red blanket. Merry Christmas.
looks delicious but that is quite labor intensive, i see you are well and truly collected by a cat 😁 Happy New Year to you Ron and the critters!
It came out of the mold beautifully I know you were nervous but I had every confidence that you could do it. This dish makes a nice presentation. Good job.
Hello Ms. Justine. The bacon or pork curry looks delicious. Hope you and Ron have a prosperous and safe New Year. Keep the videos coming. 😀
This is the most unusual dish so far, Justine!! Great job flipping the dish onto the plate👍🏻👍🏻
the colonial urge to try and make almost any dish into a pie-like structure 😆❤️ this is delightful! and if i could draw, i’d do a drawing of you trying to reach your cat with a tray - that was adorable 😊
Thank you for showing us this dish. It seems delicious.
Mish Mish, you are mischievous, little princess. She is still a young kitty. They are like your forever kids.
My husband and I have been binge watching y’all for last few days. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and beautiful souls. So refreshing. I looked up how far away y’all are from us today. Over 11 hours
This woman is awsome she makes this channel what it is 🤘
Thank you! I absolutely love these vids! Please keep them going!
I now know why I can't cook like you do - I only have a stove! 😉 Love your videos! And I thought the pioneers had to eat bland, tasteless food all the time!
Such an interesting recipe! I love the smile on Justine's face when she takes the dish out of the mold. I get the same smile when my dishes come out. So delightful to watch! I love the kitty too! I have two cats who always find a way to steal my attention away when I'm cooking :)!
I've never had a bacon curry before, but I love bacon and rice so that looks like a new recipe for me to try.
This is one strange dish, but it looks delicious😀 I love every ingredient in it so I know I will love it. I will definitely be making this. By the way MishMish is so darned adorable. >^..^
Love that kitty emoji!
@@michaelflores9220 Thank you. Just made it from my keyboard, you can too😁 I would tell you what keys I used but my keys are screwed up and nothing is where it is supposed to be😆 So it wouldn't be in the same place on yours🤔 So just experiment on your keyboard, you will find the combination. I will tell you they are all upper case except the eyes, those are just periods. Good luck.
The dish looks great I love pulled pork. Justine did I see right 860k subscribers? If so it has skyrocketed quickly and a Big Congratulations is in order.👏👏🎉Love your videos keep 'um coming! Happy New Year to you and Ron!🥳🎆🎊
I'm so happy to have found you, you're amazing
Mercy Justine ..that looks delish😊💞
I came for the food but stayed for the adorable purring kitty. 🥹
This dish looks fancy and quite tasty. Thanks Justine
This is too cool. I watch so mich cooking, it is unreal. I've never seen anything like this and that is very rare. Thanks for another gem.
Happy New Year!
I've made several of these historic recipes after watching you, Justine. I have to tell you that my husband (who's recovering from a stroke and beginning to eat normal food again) is digging right in and loving it. Last week I made the potato and pork pie, serving it with spiced fried apples and sour cream. Now I'm going to make this bacon curry dish as well. This is simple, delicious food for the winter season. Bless you. ❤️
He will enjoy his recovery! Congratulations!
God bless you both,🙏
That looks really good, i would definitely eat that!
What a sweet n silly kitty so playful 🥰🥰
This is amazing (as is all your content!). You make "ancient" recipes so approachable, and manageable. Thank you, thank you.
The food looks delicious!👍
Hope you guys had a Merry Christmas!🎄
I shared this video with my 6 year old granddaughter , she watched all of it and enjoyed it very much. It fascinated her.
Thanks.
This recipe was so interesting to watch it come together. Justine you make it look easy but I know I would mess it up 😂🤣
Thank you for sharing your video very Nice!👍😊
This sounds fantastic!!
All this down home cooking is making me hungry!! Happy New Year Justine & Ron! 🐈⬛
Your cat is literally my everything. I'm so glad you guys got her💕
Beautiful, spoiled kitty. So cute !
Hi Justine & Ron 👋 hope you both had a Merry Christmas 🎄 😊 todays receipt is very interesting. ❤
That bacon did not look cooked to me.
God bless you all , keep growing all ,,,
Your kitty is such a welcome addition to your videos. It makes it feel like home even more. Love your work.
With the light of your hearth and the warmth of your hearts, you illuminate and warm the dull and algid souls of people all over the world!🤗😘🔥🔥🔥🌞
I don't like being in the snow, but your little beautiful cabin makes me think maybe it wouldn't be so bad to spend a little peaceful time there. I guess I will just spend some time there with you and your lovely videos.
Thankyou looks yummy
That looked really good , very artistic in its presentation. Thank you.
Fabulous dish. I use eggy rice quite a bit, and seem to do a version of this with chilli con carne…… a chilli bomb. Love this channel and am so fascinated with your hearth management. All the best for 2023.
I love how Mish Mish’s head moves @3:00 with your every move, as she is so interested in what you do! 😊❤
I’m obsessed with the Christmas decorations - forget the glamorous stuff, this is how you deck the halls!
Nummy ... btw, beauty kitty can get up and down from the roof by the tree next to the house.💞 Happy New Year to you and Ron. 🥂
Superb job. Thanks kindly. Looks delicious.
I like the way she cooks.Slowly but efficiently.
Delicious curry dish. Enjoy watching you prepare it. Happy New Year’s
What an interesting receipt! The preparation is certainly more complex than usual. Since I LOVE curries, I think I will give this a shot (with Basmati instead of ordinary rice and shredded chicken instead of pork). Thanks Justine!
I hope that you like it! It is very unique.
Hummmmm que delícia!
Ótima opção para a ceia de réveillon.
Parabéns! Mim deu água na boca.😋😋
Looks so good.
Thank you.
You put the basket up to get Mish Mish off the roof, and she stops first to lick her paw! Too cute!😁🐈 I have never tried any curry dish in my life, this recipe has me interested!💕
This looks yummy.
Nice video. This curry dish blew my mind. I was thinking of something totally different. Honestly it looks like something Gordan Ramsay would make. Also that was funny with Mishmish, my mom would have said "You got up there somehow, figure out how to get back down with breaking a bone on your own". Lol
I loved that Justine was willing to offer elevator service. Mishmish is a perfect addition to these videos.
Another amazing looking receipt. Will be trying this one too. I do love curry, and cummin is also a major flavor I like. Excellent video. Have a blessed New year,
It looks very pretty. You did great job!
Your cat is gorgeous. His coat is so shiny 😊
I'm crazy about bacon, smoked pork, and curried anything! I never thought to use curry spices on pork until now. Your dish came out beautiful!
Love your videos and I'm hungry now 😋
Mish Mish found the greatest home ever. She’s totally in love with her humans 😂❤
You are so amazing and adorable. I'm going to adopt you both. This is my favorite channel to watch. I've learned a lot.
Looks marvelous dahling
Congrats Justine on the flip! Wow, that curry looks delightful! I want some....lol you made my day. I really needed to de-stress and watching you prepare this lovely meal took all my worries away. Wishing you both a very happy adventurous new year ahead full of God's blessings.
That is the sweetest cat I have ever seen .and he loves you so much!
Thank you for teaching!
That looks really looks like a good dish. I think the recipe and video will be on my radar again.
To note, the "Ketch-up" on the last recipe card at the end is NOT the same tomato based Ketchup we know today. What we know today was actually created as a fish sauce. In those days it was totally different. Best way to see this is to look up old ketchup recipes from 1850 or before.
As I’m sat here in northern England with two jumpers on and wrapped in a blanket your fire looks about the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen 😌
Justine this looks wonderfully delicious with the smoke flavor from the fireplace... LOVE the idea.
One of the more telling videos and recipes, highlighting deepe history. I could think of how during that period, with the British having India, these types of recipes and usage of spices would have been exotic, a treat and even "chic". Thank you, Early American for you continuing art and tribute to history that you provide to the world!
