R.I.P. to director and fellow Canadian Ivan Reitman, who died a couple of months ago.
I was 14 when I saw this in the theatre and LOVED it! Made myself my own Ghostbuster costume that year with a tan hoodie and trackpants, and a homemade Proton Pack with a big black box, a school backpack and a garden hose. Took me 33 years in 2017 to put together an accurate Ghostbuster cosplay as Ray Stantz. (Unless someone already mentioned it) Here's the subtle joke most tend to miss- The "Key Master" is Louis Tully, an idiot who keeps locking himself out of his own apartment. LOL As always loved the reaction Jen!
Yes, the second one is worth the watch. Back in 2011, when I started my film career, I got the chance to work with Ernie Hudson, who was the fourth Ghostbuster. He's a great guy, very down to earth. I had a picture with him on my old phone, which got stolen. So the only proof I have that I worked with him is the DVD of the movie. Galaxy Quest is one of my top five movies of all time!
The scary parts of this definitely are scary, especially for a movie that's really a comedy, but those moments are brief enough that it's fine when you're a kid. I was 11 when this came out and we saw it 6 or 7 times in the theatre. It's completely engaging when you're a kid and there's another layer that you get when you're an adult. Among other things, the pacing, cinematography, and score are all top-notch, and most of the 1984 practical effects hold up remarkably well, aside from the Terror Dogs running. (That looked janky even in 1984). Bill Murray did improvise a lot of his lines. The DVD commentary's a great listen because they discuss that and a lot of other things.
A personal fave - perfect blend of laughs and scares w/the trifecta of Murray, Aykroyd & the late, great Harold Ramis (who co-wrote but did not direct this - that would be the late, great Ivan Reitman who directed Bill & Harold in STRIPES another must see). Fun fact - Slimer was modeled after the late, great John Belushi (who was to play Venkman but sadly passed away) - and speaking of you s/check him with Dan in THE BLUES BROTHERS (it was so disconcerting to hear you profess you only knew Dan from MY GIRL ! LOL) I recommend an oldie but a goodie in the same vein of comedy & monsters with ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN) Nice job Jen :D
Hey Jen!!! I love this movie and your reaction was great! The floating green ghost they go against in the hotel is called Slimer, and is based (in a way) on a real person. Ackroyd (Ray) and Murray were part of the original cast of SNL in the 1970s with the late John Belushi. Ackroyd and Belushi were quite close, having done several movies togther as well as SNL...'The Blues Brothers" and Steven Spielberg's '1941' among them. When Ackroyd, who is obsessed with the paranormal, was writing the screenplay, he created Venkman for John Belushi. Unfortunately Belushi tragically died due to his huge drug habit (off topic slightly...Belushi's death helped Robin Williams get clean for quite a few years as they partied together). Anyway, as the script took shape Harold Ramis (Egon) joined in writing and Ramis had also worked with Murray on the films 'Stripes' (acting) and 'Caddyshack' (writing and directing). As Ivan Reitman was going to direct, and Reitman had also worked with Murray on 'Stripes' and 'Meatballs'...Murray was approached. But, when the design of the film was beng worked out, everyone wanted to pay homage in some way to John Belushi...so, Slimer was based a little bit on John Belushi. There is a cool series on Netflix called 'The Movies That Made Us' that did an episode on 'Ghostbusters' that really gets behind the scenes on what happened with the production...it almost didn't get made. 20:52 - The song is called "SavingThe Day" by Alessi. It was my favorite song from the 'Ghostbusters' soundtrack, which I had as a kid...on vinyl, no less. I don't know how many of my mixtapes that I made had that song on them....A LOT! I liked hearing you hum the tune! Made my day! Personally, I didn't care for 'Ghostbusters II'...it had moments, but overall, I didn't like it ( I would definitely be here for the reaction, though!). However...all of the other movies I talked about are fun and worthwhile...even '1941', which is one of Speilberg's few flops. It's still fun. I really recommend 'The Blues Brothers' (the first SNL sketch turned movie), 'Stripes', 'Caddyshack', and 'Meatballs' (which I believe was Murray's first movie). I await your reaction to 'Galaxy Quest' which is one of the best movies EVAR!!!!
It hurts my Gen X heart when someone oniy recognizes Dan Aykroyd from only like one thing, and it's something like My Girl. He was an original Not Ready For Prime Time Player on SNL in the mid to late 70s and was a mainstay of 80s comedies.
It's probably a coincidence but I do find it interesting that the two guys you recognise from movies not on this channel, Dan Aykroyd and Rick Moranis, are both fellow Canadians. :) And if you think I'm stereotyping then let me reply with probably my favourite line of the movie: "Back off, man, I'm a scientist!"*. :) Great reaction as always, Jen. You might have a new Patron soon. Btw., anybody watching this movie through "Pan and Scan"? I didn't properly see this movie until I bought it on DVD after the turn of the millennium. Oh, and yes, Harold Ramis did direct a few movies but not this one, this one was directed by Ivan Reitman. *: Well, second favourite. Favourite would be: "Ray, if someone ask you if you're a god, you say YES!"
The fellow playing EPA agent Walter Peck, William Atherton, was an excellent actor, and a great guy...unfortunately, the popularity of this film made him world renowned as a 'dickless' ass. I believe he retired from acting shortly after. To see him in earlier, similar persona, I'll advise the comedy "Real Genius."
Ghostbusters 2 is definitely worth the watch. It doesn't capture the lightning in a bottle that the original did, but I'd give it a solid 8/10 compared to the original's 10/10 for me. I grew up with both movies, though, so I am really fond of them and couldn't see one existing without the other. That said, I'd have to rate Ghostbusters: Afterlife as my second favorite GB movie at a respectable 8.5/10. And at CinemaCon, they just announced a new Ghostbusters movie will begin pre-production at an unspecified future date. So I'm interested to see where the GB universe goes from there. On your own time, I also highly recommend watching the 80's animated series "The Real Ghostbusters." Dozens of episodes are available for free on the official Ghostbusters UA-cam page. It takes what was so very special about the original movie and expands it into a fun continuation of the Ghostbusters lore. All of the characters are spot on accurate to their movie counterparts, albeit looking very different from the actors in the original. The writing is solid and the stories are engaging and don't talk down to the viewers (more specifically the first two seasons). All in all, it is a very fun show. If I were to recommend one or two episodes, they'd be "The Boogieman Cometh" and "The Man Who Never Reached Home." Great series and worth a watch.
Dog plunk made me laugh! I'll echo some previous comments saying yes to watching part 2. The first is definitely the classic one, but the sequel is fun, too. Also, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Before Ghostbusters, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis worked together starring in the movie "Stripes", an army comedy. As for Dan Aykroyd, I very highly recommend "The Blues Brothers", a musical comedy classic, and "The Great Outdoors", starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd. I have yet to hear anybody say they didn't like it.
Janine (Annie Potts) is the Ghostbuster queen. We all love her. And yes, do see the sequels. Ghostbusters II gets a lot of derision, but it's unwarranted, IMO. And Afterlife was a great proper continuation, though I do have a few issues with it personally. There's also a Ghostbusters game from 2011 that got a (fairly) recent remaster and it's a fantastic time. And of course, there's the Animated series from the 80s, "The Real Ghostbusters". Janine gets to suit up and save the guys from a Cthulu level threat!
Ghostbusters reaction? Yes, have some! While there are mixed opinions on 2, I think it’s definitely worth a reaction. It’s pretty fun. _The Real Ghostbusters_ animated series was also very enjoyable.
Be the only other person on the planet who knows... The name of the God is Gozer The Gozarian, (Gozer the Travellor, Gozer the Destructor). The devil dogs are Zuul - The Gatekeeper and Vinz Klortho - The Keymaster.
William Atherton, aka Walter Peck, apparently took a lot of heat after this role. He said he would go into bars and such and people would start fights with him because of this character.
hahha GREAT fun film and You were spot on with B MUrray and his improvised lines, He just about had one in each scene, "so shes a dog" was a great one. Cant wait to go look for the GALAXY quest reaction. TONY SHaloub ( crewman who fell for the ALIEN ) had some great stoned look and his lines were very funny
Earlier today, I was watching this movie on BBC America . It was a little different. Ghostbusters 2 is more of a Christmas feel. Because of time year the latter part of the movie is set. Also, Ghostbusters Afterlife makes references to both 1 and 2. And the 2016 version is more like an SNL parady with video game like CGI Rick Morranis also played Dark Helmet in Spaceballs. Ironically Luis Tully becomes the Key master. Earlier in the movie, he keeps getting locked out of his apartment.
Oh, DO watch the sequel. It's skewed slightly more toward a juvenile audience (mainly after the popularity of "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon), but still plenty of great laughs and keeper lines.
Hey Jen. Such a classic. A few trivia items for you. The green ghost (known as Slimer) is a tribute to John Belushi who was on SNL with Dan Ackroyd. Venkman was originally written for him before Bill Murray came on after Belushi died. Also the Rick Morranis character was originally going to be John Candy but he had to pull out at the last minute. There was also a kids cartoon series on the Ghosbusters where Slimer is actually a friend of the Ghostbusters. I don’t know how your mom would feel about you dating a Ghostbuster, but what about a media content editor? 😜
William Atherton, who played Peck, supposedly would have random people on the street yelling “Hey, dickless!” at him for years afterwards. He also plays an antagonist role in another great 80’s comedy, Real Genius, which you’d probably enjoy. 😁👍
After hacksaw ridge I needed something fun and what better than this 🙂 seeing Boston in the back cheered me up right away 🐶 . This movie has so many lines I've quoted over the years it's just a classic movie 🎉 ofc this was reacted to a long time ago and I don't know if Ghostbusters 2 was ever put on a poll or not you'd have to confirm either way but I would say watch it yourself in your own time if subscribers aren't keen cuz it's a lot of fun . Also surprisingly the Ghostbusters afterlife movie was really good and I highly recommend that Jen 👍 . Lastly another Dan aykroyd movie that I actually added to the request list a while back now is coneheads I believe that's another you would laugh your butt off at 👌 anyways as always thankyou for the awesomeness and I hope you're having a lovely day
3:05 do you think Dan Aykroyd looks young in this movie? then you definitely have to watch the 1980 movie "The Blues Brothers" and try to recognize it 😄 and watching "Galaxy Quest" soon is a great idea! 👍
Here's two movie recommendations with Dan Akroyd: Blues Brothers and My Girl. Blues Brothers (SNL roles) is about two brothers trying to save a church by doing a singing tour in various bars. My Girl is coming of age story about a young girl. Akroyd plays the father in a minor role.Murray plays a disaffected commercial actor in Japan in Lost in Translation. It's funny and poignant.
Rick Moranis is one of my favorite actors. My Blue Heaven is a great movie to watch. You have to pay attention to get the humor. Your either love it or hate it.
7:55 "You know, you don't _act_ like a scientist?" Well now, how many scientists do you know? You see, any scientist would tell you that you're not making a properly informed assessment if you're drawing from a sample size of less than 100, drawn randomly from the whole.
I highly recommend GALAXY QUEST! Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub....

(Unless someone already mentioned it) Here's the subtle joke most tend to miss-
The "Key Master" is Louis Tully, an idiot who keeps locking himself out of his own apartment. LOL
As always loved the reaction Jen!
Mother of mercy...I just realized this movie is going to be turning 40 this year!!! Where did the time go?!?!?!
Ghostbusters II and Ghostbusters Afterlife are a good watch, makes a great trilogy. Thanks for reacting.
This.
I saw this at work and picked up 2 Italian cheese breads from Little Caesars for the occasion. Let's go. And thanks Jen this should be fun.
Lol nice 👌😆
@@jenmurrayxo very nice. However half way through the reaction and I can't move. But having a blast as always lol.
YES, Ghostbusters 2 IS worth a watch. And other than Walter Peck, everybody is back in the sequel. (Even the ghost, Slimer, comes back.)
It cracks me up watching EVERYONE smoke in this...ahh the 80s. I saw this at the cinema as a kid! 👍✌❤
11:17 watch Egon, he's holding up his fingers to indicate to Peter how much to charge 🤣
Thanks for the info Rob, very interesting ☺👍
I'm old enough to have seen this in the theatres. Everyone would shout 'Ghost Busters' during the song.
That must've been so much fun! ☺👍
I think my fav line might be "and the flowers are still standing!" 🤣🤣
@@jenmurrayxo That one is a good one too, yes, for sure. :)
He plays a similar authority figure in LOST, and he's also in The Hindenberg (1975), one of Robert Wise's later films.
Jenn part 2 is definitely a must watch and to me it's just as good as the first one
Seeing Bill Murray and Chevy Chase improvise off one another in "Caddy Shack" is necessary to see.
The movie "Stripes" is a pretty funny team up of Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. And it does not hurt that John Candy is in it as well.
Binge watching... Had to go lite after 2 King tearjerkers.
Originally Dan Aykroyd had John Belushi in mind for the part of Peter Venkman. Unfortunately he died and Billy Murray took the part.
Unpopular opinion: Ghostbusters 2 is almost as good as the first one, and MUCH creepier. Please react to it!
Not that unpopular. I agree with you :).
Peter MacNicol is hilarious in the sequel. On par with Moranis in the first.
@@LordVolkov Peter MacNicol was always underrated. Always loved him in Addams Family Values too.
unpopular because it is WRONG
@@PeterZeeke nah
STRANGE BREW is a Rick Moranis classic, very Canadian 🇨🇦 🏒 🎥
Ya I need to see that one! 🇨🇦
Words you never want to hear. Zule is awake!
Nice reaction Jen. So who we choose as the keymaster? The one who always locks himself out of his apartment....😅
This my favorite movie ever! So happy you enjoyed it as well! The sequel is definitely worth seeing.
One of my favorite movies ever. First saw it at 3 years old so quite possibly the one I have seen the most! Really glad you dug it!
So much fun! ☺👍
Wow Jen, I half expected to see you wearing a pair of gray coveralls and a backpack vacuum cleaner.
I didn't have any coveralls otherwise I would have 👍
Ahhh. Should have read more comments. I see others already provided these facts
The kids show is called The Real Ghostbusters, To differentiate it from a previous kid’s show franchise(live action and cartoon) called Ghost Busters.
Bill Murray starred in the movie “Meatballs” filmed in Canada.
Bring on Galaxy Quest!! So much fun
So funny! 🤣
William Atherton, who played Peck, supposedly would have random people on the street yelling “Hey, dickless!” at him for years afterwards. He also plays an antagonist role in another great 80’s comedy, Real Genius, which you’d probably enjoy. 😁👍
And of course he plays the reporter (who’s name I forget) in Die Hard…
Lastly another Dan aykroyd movie that I actually added to the request list a while back now is coneheads I believe that's another you would laugh your butt off at 👌 anyways as always thankyou for the awesomeness and I hope you're having a lovely day
I love the Experiment at the beginning even though yes its going for girl. Negative reinforcement on ESP the guy was legit making it work
Tavern on the Green in Central Park NYC, that building is in the wealthiest zona of NYC
The joke that so many miss, Louis Tully, the Keymaster, keeps getting locked out of his own apartment.
No words can explain how badly this movie makes we wanna be in NYC. ❤️
3:05 do you think Dan Aykroyd looks young in this movie? then you definitely have to watch the 1980 movie "The Blues Brothers" and try to recognize it 😄
and watching "Galaxy Quest" soon is a great idea! 👍
Glad you enjoyed my favourite movie of all time :)
Loved it! ☺👍
My favorite Sigourney films are "Galaxy Quest" and "Dave".
Galaxy Quest coming to UA-cam May 10th 👍
Here's two movie recommendations with Dan Akroyd: Blues Brothers and My Girl. Blues Brothers (SNL roles) is about two brothers trying to save a church by doing a singing tour in various bars. My Girl is coming of age story about a young girl. Akroyd plays the father in a minor role.Murray plays a disaffected commercial actor in Japan in Lost in Translation. It's funny and poignant.
Part two definitely has its great moments
For more young Dan Akroyd, check out Blues Brothers, My Stepmother is an Alien, or Coneheads.
Rick Moranis is one of my favorite actors. My Blue Heaven is a great movie to watch. You have to pay attention to get the humor. Your either love it or hate it.
Ah an 80's classic jen
the little man is a accountant that's why he asked them about their taxes
7:55 "You know, you don't _act_ like a scientist?"
Well now, how many scientists do you know? You see, any scientist would tell you that you're not making a properly informed assessment if you're drawing from a sample size of less than 100, drawn randomly from the whole.
