Looks good. Wait, is that a hint of 〰️ under Chris' nose? Are we about to see the introduction of a Dice Tower villain?!
Pirates of Maracaibo is a great game which me and my group appreciated quite fast and were sure it stays in the collection. Turns go quickly without much downtime, map layout will be different each game helping with the replayability which overall is quite high, you have a lot of options on your turn and they are all interesting, overall an awesome game that I could definitely recommend and I think it deserves recognition, good to hear you like it guys :)
Thanks for this great video! Wonderful to see you liked it so much. Capstone said, it will be available in US in summer, I hope pre-order starts soon!
I couldn’t wait my longer so I ordered it from Philibert in France. Cheers Alexander (and co-designer) to another wonderful game!
Excellent game...thx 🙏 Alexander and the whole team...
Brilliant..
Greetings from Greece!!
@@Kostamou Thank you!
@@ledbetter10 Thanks! I hope, shipping isn't too expansive.
Congratulations on the seal of excellence, totally deserved.
Being born and raised in real life Maracaibo, I can not stop myself from pointing out that Maracaibo's map has been rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise (North is to the left). It is silly and it doesn't affect game play but still looks wrong to my eyes.
I guess I would play with rotated cards instead of a rotated map.
Thanks for sharing that, I ha never heard before. And yeah, i think you could arrange it that way and it would work still.
We played the fool out of Maracaibo when it first came out and it has sat on the shelf for a while. We tried to play it recently on BoardGameArena and both scratched our heads trying to remember how it played. Between remembering that you might get extra actions if you moved further, having to burn cards as resources to do upgrades, and having to make sure you have crew available to to accomplish some things, it is a lot. This one looks more open and intuitive. I'm hoping it is one we can take down from the shelf after a year and just put it out on the table and play. That is a big selling point for us now-a-days especially with the size of our current collection. My guess is that this will replace Maracaibo for us, but we'll see.
We love Maracaibo and were super excited to try this on the cruise. While it was fun, we came away feeling like we would rather play Maracaibo despite the longer play time.
I concur. The extra 30 minutes is worth it for a more fulfilling experience, although as a stand-alone without taking the original into consideration, Pirates is worthwhile. It’s just hard to not compare the two.

I am looking forward to getting my hands on this one. Thank you for the review!
Always impressed how Pfister manages to take an interessting historical topic or geographic area and make it super dry.
Oh My Goods and Isle of Skye being the only onse I like.
9.5/10 for Wendy's earrings.
Wow, seal of excellence?!?
very cool review! thanks!
Great job, you two!! Thank you😊 loving the earrings 🍊
I didn't want to get scurvy

An excellent game...easy to learn, very deep strategy and huge replayability due to the fact that the "sea" always is a new outcome...and during the game new cards come out...
Brilliant...never two games will be the same!!!!
I believe that this is a must have if you like the theme
Thumbs up for that game
Totally agree with you, a great game!!!
Coming to Capstone games in the US!
I loved the earrings!
We really like this game, i got some custom dice made that look like gold, emerald and pearl, add in the original Maracaibo metal coins and it makes the game awesome.
That sounds awesome! Some pearlescent dice would be a nice touch for them.
@flip5ide where did you get the dice?
@@ledbetter10 the cerulean wolf, she makes dice to order, just tell her what you want.
If you go on board game geek and to images for Pirates of Maracaibo, go to images, I took a photo of my dice and posted it there 😁
Tell me more about these custom dice you speak of.
@@VikingKittens can't post links here, go to BGG page for the game and look through the images.
Hey, i think this game is soloable. Player count might be wrong guys.
Mike, do something! Mike?
I had my eye on this one for my 2024 (very)shortlist. I liked the early comments of "meat & quickness". Thanks for the video.
Cool, try it out and come back here to let us know what you think.
Great review! How the setup time? I liked the original a lot, but setup took forever and final scoring was a bit weird 😅
Set-up isn't too bad. Biggest thing is setting up the starting cards and arranging them out. Beyond that, it's pretty easy. A major improvement over the original.
Did Chris use the word "minute" (meaning "very small") at 13:20? That is the word the crew said no one used in the "Top 10 Terrible Game Names" video :)
I think, it’s a better game than Maracaibo but I do see that you can own both. I have only played it solo.
Have never played Maracaibo but it popped up in a top ten pirate games and was on my radar along with sea of legends to grab but this looks like it focuses on the pirate theme more and might be what i get instead of Maracaibo
Hi guys! I think you would love Donut Shop.
You mentioned around the 18 minute mark that you can get any card in your column. Not sure that is accurate because there's a rule that says you must be closer to Maracaibo at the end of your movement, i.e. you must move one column forward and not stay in the same column.
You are correct. Just a slip of the tongue where we meant you can almost always reach any card in the next row over.
They also said you have to always move at least 1 closer to Maracaibo
You can spent one of your moves one step closer to Maracaibo and the other two ( or one) in the same column...
@@sonofsol2869 you must end one column closer to Maracaibo.
@@Kostamou yes but your final move must be in a new column, and where you end your move is the action you will take.
When life gives you lemons... make earrings? 😉

Eeeh, seems a bit to fussy to me. Facial hair, just taking a brake from shaving today? I hope not. Go for it. I think it'll be a good look. I think it's already a good look. Bearded Chris. Yeah, I want to see that.
