My husband Wolfgang passed away in 2022. This was his favourite Christmas carol. When I hear this carol I get tears in my eyes. It brings back memories.
On Dec.11 2023, my grandfather passed away. He immigrated to Canada from Germany in the 50s when he was a teenager. He was fluent in both English and German. I remember one year we all sang Silent Night, in both languages and he was so happy. I remember him saying, "Frohe Weihnachten" as he raised his glass. To which we replied, "Merry Christmas," raising our glasses too. I think that will be one of many cherished memories of him. Rest peacefully, Granddad. We'll keep you in our hearts and memories forever. And Frohe Weihnachten to all.

I learned this song at school as a kid 54 years ago, as a Frenchman I loved this language, German is a wonderful and powerful language despite what people generally say
My Dad sung this in flawless German as he learned that before English and still spoke it to his Grandmother. Every Christmas Eve with a hot Tom and Jerry’s he’d break out the record and sing this with just the lights of the tree and candles burning. I really miss those days. Wish I could hear his voice singing it miss him terribly even a decade and a half after he was called home. Still sing it in German when played at Midnight Mass do it for him, usually someone hears me and smiles.
Everyone has lost someone and Christmas is the time of year that we all remember those who have passed, Christmas more than any time, a time to make memories for the younger ones as they will remember us when we are no longer here. My Uncle took me every year to see santa and we had dinner and then to the cinema what a day. He died 22nd December 2003 the same day we found out that we were going to have our 1st child.

I only know our version of it, in Dutch, but every time I hear it I get chills and immediately think about the fact that the soldiers of both sides in the first year of wwI would unite, and have a small 'peace' during Christmas, and it started when they heard each other singing this song.
We never learn.....so many years later brothers are killing eachother again....this time Russians and Ukrainians....and for God's sake when will we believe in the brotherhood of man?????? No mater what Ur skin colour, caste, creed and all that blah blah is .....u and I r parts of the one and only big spirit.....when will we give birth to the new earth?????
It as actually just the first year, 1914, all the subsequent years 24 hour artillery barrages were ordered across the sector, the generals were adamant that these men kill each other.
@@babitarathee9011It was in the First World War, at Christmas 1914, at various places along the Western Front. Look up the Christmas Truce. (Also, although there are plenty of reports of soldiers singing Christmas carols after meeting together, exchanging cigarettes, rations, and even playing games of soccer or football, no accounts exist of a truce breaking out as a result of hearing each other singing Silent Night or any other song from the trenches. It's a beautiful thought, one that's been dramatized several times, but probably didn't happen that way. Soldiers mainly reported hearing Christmas greetings shouted from the trenches and venturing cautiously into no-man's-land where they shook hands with the opposition, only singing carols later on.)
My Mom passed December 11 2021! She came to the states, in 1961 when she met my father stationed in the army. My mother is from Bitburg, West Germany! I played this song over and over too my Mom when she was in hospice care, sang it too her as well, this was the last song played, too her even if she wasn't awareof it . I had my hand on her heart and felt it beat for the last time, but this song just reminds me how precious life is , and yes I miss her terribly! She loved her German music and listened every weekend, on her ipad . Sleep in heavenly peace Mom! I love you
I am not Christian, actually I’m Muslim, but my wife is. This song reminds me of the beautiful Christmas times with her family. Her grandma used to sing this song, and we all sang with her. She passed away this year. I loved her so much.
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you'll come to Christ so that you can see your grandmother-in-law in heaven again one day since in Islam you do not worship the same god as Christians, nor have the same Jesus and thus will be separated from your Christian relatives forever according to your religion and theirs. *1* The god of Islam is Allah, the word means god but it is also a personal name for the entity. The god of the Bible has titles like El Shaddai, El Elohim and so on but his personal name is I Am That I AM or YHWH (Yahweh) in the original Hebrew translated as "Lord" in English (der Herr in German). There's no mention of this name in any verse of the Quran but the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob told Moses his personal name in Exodus 3:14-15 and it is used more than 6000 times throughout the Hebrew text of the bible confirmed by the Dead Sea Scrolls that predate Jesus by hundreds of years. '14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 God said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.' Unfortunately you can not go to the same eternity if you do not believe in the same god. *2* The Isa in Islam is not Jesus. Islamic Isa is probably Joshua from the Old Testament. According to the Quran when read verbatim, Isa, the son of Maryam was the nephew of Harun (the brother of Moses), because Surah 19:27, 28 states that Harun was the brother of Maryam. And according to surah 3:33-36 they are members of the special family of Imran. Surah 3:33-36 Indeed, Allāh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds - If you compare this to the bible, Exodus 6:20 you can see that the father of Moses and Aaron was called Amram (the Hebrew version of Imran). Descendants, some of them from others. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing. When the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing." But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled." Surah 19:27, 28 Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste." In the original Arabic, check for yourself. يَـٰٓأُخْتَ هَـٰرُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ ٱمْرَأَ سَوْءٍۢ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيًّۭا ٢٨ Compare the bible: Exodus 6:20 'Amram took Jochebed his father’s sister to himself as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. The years of the life of Amram were one hundred thirty-seven years.' and they did have a sister whose name was Miriam ie the same name as Mary and Maryam. Exodus 15:20 Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances. Aaron was three years older than Moses and Miriam was their older sister who also remained a virgin for life, so whilst the Quran accurately names the sister of Aaron as Miriam, she was not the virgin mother of Jesus. The trouble is that Moses, Aaron, Mary and Moses' successor called Joshua (same name as Jesus) lived more than 1300 years before the Jesus worship, whose crucifixion (even if you ignore the first person reports in the gospels written within 50 years of Jesus) is a historically established fact, Tacitus, The Annals, Book 15, chapter 44 (written less than 100 years after Jesus by a Roman who hated Christians) ‘Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, which the Quran (revealed 600 years after Jesus and written down more than 100 years after Muhammad's death) denies, Surah 4:157: And their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, the messenger of Allāh." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. Further you will be unable to spend eternity with your Christian relatives because according to Islam, Christians are amongst the worst of creature, you shouldn't be friends with them and Christians are all going to hell to pay for Muslim sins. Surah 98:5-8 5 And they were not commanded except to worship Allāh, sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakāh. And that is the correct religion. 6 Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures. 7 Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures. 8 Their reward with their Lord will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allāh being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord. As mentioned, Allah is not the god of the bible, but the bible (meaning book) is the 'scripture' referred to when talking about the people of the book or people of the scripture, whilst those who believe in verse 7 are Muslims. Surah 5:51 O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is of them. Indeed, Allāh guides not the wrongdoing people. According to the Sahih hadiths in Sahih Muslim (Book 50, Hadith 57, 58, 60 or online 2767a, b, d) When it will be the Day of Resurrection Allah would deliver to every Muslim a Jew or a Christian and say: That is your rescue from Hell-Fire. No Muslim would die but Allah would admit in his stead a Jew or a Christian in Hell-Fire. 'Umar b. Abd al-'Aziz took an oath: By One besides Whom there is no god but He, thrice that his father had narrated that to him from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). There would come people amongst the Muslims on the Day of Resurrection with as heavy sins as a mountain, and Allah would forgive them and He would place in their stead the Jews and the Christians. (As far as I think), Abu Raub said: I do not know as to who is in doubt. Abu Burda said: I narrated it to 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz, whereupon he said: Was it your father who narrated it to you from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ)? I said: Yes. I hope you don't mind since I mean no disrespect thus I have quoted and given references so you can review the information at your own leisure. As a Christian I must always profess the truth of Christ since I hope that all people can be saved.
@@CandiceGoddard "Further you will be unable to spend eternity with your Christian relatives because according to Islam, Christians are amongst the worst of creature, you shouldn't be friends with them and Christians are all going to hell to pay for Muslim sins." Okey dokey, I sure don't want to go to hell forever. So I will worship a God who is one and not three.
I recall a not too long ago memory where my mom and I were waiting for a bus and she was in her wheelchair. She got scared at night, but I played her this and sang her this. And it calmed her down. She loved when I sang to her in German. I will never forget this memory.
as a 26 year old this brings back memories of being in primary school learning this in german class, it takes me back to simpler times. Merry christmas to you all from England.
1964 or there abouts, I first heard this in a German lesson at an English grammar school at the age of 13. I’m 72 now, do not speak German to any extent, but I remember most of these words. Beautiful then, beautiful now.
My Mother and Family immigrated from E. Prussia to America where we were born. She spoke some German at home and taught us this song. I have never forgotten it. She made all our Christmas's German ones ❤ They were so special 🌲🎀🎆
last year was the craziest year of choir i've ever had, but we had a wonderful substitute to get us through while our teacher rested from her surgery and our first substitute quit. he knew so much about music and taught me so much, but i'll never forget the greatest lesson he taught us. he was our teacher around christmas time, so he had a lot of control over what we'd sing for christmas. we sing silent night every year, it's been a school tradition for longer than i was alive likely, but he had a different idea than what we had normally done. he taught us the entire song in german so that we could sing part of it in german, honoring the christmas truce of 1914. he left soon after since his wife was giving birth to their first child, and without a director we never got to sing the way he intended. he taught me something better than music: there is humanity in everything. there is humanity in war, there is humanity in disease, no matter how bad it gets we are still human, and because of that we are never truly seperate. we're now learning about ww1 in my social studdies class, and today we learned about the christmas truce of 1914. i thought of my wonderful substitute, i wonder how his baby is doing. i wish i could tell him that i stil have the entirety of Stille Nacht memorized.
My grandmother used to love to sing the german version of this song. She passed away 6 months ago today and when i close my eyes listening to this i can still picture her and the way her mouth moved and her mannerisms as she sang this (on Christmas or all year round)
Sorry for your loss, darling. I lost my grandmother last year. It's still very tough sometimes. But with God's grace we will carry on. Such a beautiful thing to have this song to always remind you of her. Much love!
I signed this song to my german grandma on Christmas and her eyes filled with tears of joy and love she said it was so beautiful and very nice and i told her it was her Christmas gift 😊
My German Grandpa taught me this beautiful song. It was our tradition that we would sing it every Christmas eve. He never allowed anyone to teach me it in English. He would always say: "Nein, nein, nein, auf Deutsch." So, I never learned it in English. To this day, I can only sing it in English if I can read the lyrics. I prefer to sing it in German, anyway.
My grandparents always made sure we had the classic German christmas, cold dinner and all. I hadn't heard or sung this song in about 13 years, this is truly wonderful for me
I have never spoken German in my life, but for some reason when I was in the third grade my teacher made me and my fellow classmates sing this entire song. 😂
This is devine and sacred. And it creats a very high frequency about 515. Thanks to all english speaking people for adoring this original lyrics from to Austrians. ❤❤
This song brings back so many wonderful memories.... I remember singing it with my parents and my brother when I was a child and to this day (many many years later) I can still remember the words. Thanks for sharing this.
My parents were German too But in my opinion it’s good to listen . And touch and smell everything that we shared with our loved ones who have gone home to God before us Maybe a tear may come no matter how much time has gone by I miss my Oma my parents and my two brothers But I sense their essences from time to time
I learned this (in German) when i was 12. We learned it to sing in an elder home that had many German people. I remember the tears on their faces. I now 69 and still remember the words!
I can’t not listen to this when winter arrives and through winter, until Christmas. Winter is such a magic time of the year, i love everything about the time between november and december. Literally magic.

WWll actually
Frohes Weihnachtsfest 🌟🙏

A beautiful carol. Much friendship and respect from my home in England to the German and Austrian people.
*Merry Christmas Everyone!*
I love you
I’m sorry to hear about that..🕊️
Thank you!
@@reneeherzog5281 You’re very welcome. 😊
Wunderschone frohe weihnachte aus tschechische republic.
Always loved silent night in English in choir, but in German/ Dutch is the true heart of this song my Dutch grandfather used to sing it.
*1*
The god of Islam is Allah, the word means god but it is also a personal name for the entity.
'14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 God said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.'
Unfortunately you can not go to the same eternity if you do not believe in the same god.
*2*
The Isa in Islam is not Jesus.
Surah 3:33-36
Indeed, Allāh chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds -
If you compare this to the bible, Exodus 6:20 you can see that the father of Moses and Aaron was called Amram (the Hebrew version of Imran).
Descendants, some of them from others. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.
When the wife of ʿImrān said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing."
But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allāh was most knowing of what she delivered, and the male is not like the female. "And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled."
Surah 19:27, 28
Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.
O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."
In the original Arabic, check for yourself.
Compare the bible:
Exodus 6:20
'Amram took Jochebed his father’s sister to himself as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. The years of the life of Amram were one hundred thirty-seven years.'
and they did have a sister whose name was Miriam ie the same name as Mary and Maryam.
Exodus 15:20
Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances.
Aaron was three years older than Moses and Miriam was their older sister who also remained a virgin for life, so whilst the Quran accurately names the sister of Aaron as Miriam, she was not the virgin mother of Jesus.
The trouble is that Moses, Aaron, Mary and Moses' successor called Joshua (same name as Jesus) lived more than 1300 years before the Jesus worship, whose crucifixion (even if you ignore the first person reports in the gospels written within 50 years of Jesus) is a historically established fact, Tacitus, The Annals, Book 15, chapter 44 (written less than 100 years after Jesus by a Roman who hated Christians)
‘Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus,
which the Quran (revealed 600 years after Jesus and written down more than 100 years after Muhammad's death) denies, Surah 4:157:
And their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, the messenger of Allāh." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them.
Surah 98:5-8
5 And they were not commanded except to worship Allāh, sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakāh.
Surah 5:51
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is of them. Indeed, Allāh guides not the wrongdoing people.
According to the Sahih hadiths in Sahih Muslim (Book 50, Hadith 57, 58, 60 or online 2767a, b, d)
When it will be the Day of Resurrection Allah would deliver to every Muslim a Jew or a Christian and say: That is your rescue from Hell-Fire.
@@CandiceGoddard "Further you will be unable to spend eternity with your Christian relatives because according to Islam, Christians are amongst the worst of creature, you shouldn't be friends with them and Christians are all going to hell to pay for Muslim sins."
Okey dokey, I sure don't want to go to hell forever. So I will worship a God who is one and not three.
Even though I’m English and love this song it sounds just as beautiful in German.
Peace and love people.🙏
So nice of you. ❤
I am a Swiss Evertonian and love this song too :)
WUNDERSCHÖN!!
I listened this masterpiece in Freiburg Münster , this evening with hundreds of People, joining the church choir, it was stunning .
I recall a not too long ago memory where my mom and I were waiting for a bus and she was in her wheelchair. She got scared at night, but I played her this and sang her this. And it calmed her down. She loved when I sang to her in German. I will never forget this memory.

@@doctor.spencer I love that story. Teachers are heroes and honestly, substitute teachers are superheroes!
Die wohl schönste Version
Danke euch allen.

Great children's choir and song about Christmas. A real German language and cultural treasure, so innocent. Iconic, historic and beautiful.
This is beautiful music by composer Franz Gruber from Austria.
Guten Tag. Dieses hymn is immatrikulieren.

Much love!
I’m sorry to hear that mine passed away a year ago I can’t listen to amazing grace she loved that song

Your grandmother is still singing this in German, together with Angels!
Gott love your mother
I signed this song to my german grandma on Christmas and her eyes filled with tears of joy and love she said it was so beautiful and very nice and i told her it was her Christmas gift 😊
My German Grandpa taught me this beautiful song. It was our tradition that we would sing it every Christmas eve. He never allowed anyone to teach me it in English. He would always say: "Nein, nein, nein, auf Deutsch." So, I never learned it in English. To this day, I can only sing it in English if I can read the lyrics. I prefer to sing it in German, anyway.
Das ist gut ❤
My grandparents always made sure we had the classic German christmas, cold dinner and all. I hadn't heard or sung this song in about 13 years, this is truly wonderful for me
Danke, Stille Nacht,und Fröhe Weihnachten.
I have never spoken German in my life, but for some reason when I was in the third grade my teacher made me and my fellow classmates sing this entire song. 😂

Beautiful, and may our Lord Christ Jesus bless us all☦️
