    Today is August 18th, 2023 and I am happy I found your video. My hair is growing back from having breast cancer twice and I have been using Taliah Waajid products. I shampoo and condition every two weeks,and I deep condition one a month. My scalp is still sensitive, I message my scalp every other day. Thank you for your video. God's love and blessings to you and your family in Jesus name Amen ♥❤ 🙏

    I’ve always gotten compliments on my hair and as I started going silver, I still do. However, silver hair is very different. My mom started perming my hair when I was very young, about 9 or 10. I have very thick hair, so I think it was hard for her to do it. So I grew up perming it also. Now that I’m older now and have silver, this perming stuff has gotten old! So I have been wanting to cut it for years to see if I could do the “natural “ hair stuff. I love being the real me and I wanted to stop using chemicals. So I did it!! I cut it completely off Jan 8, 2020. I was so scared. But guess what? I was very relieved and pleasantly surprised. It was wonderful. I loved feeling my real hair underneath. I have shimmering silver that just “glows”. It’s beautiful. So my journey begins. So glad I did this. Live watching these videos. Keep them coming!!

    IF YOU ARENT JUST THE CUTEST PRETTIEST LITTLE SOMEBODY!! so beautiful . So glad you are clearing up that stigma that we can't grow long hair. I grew up with long hair but still felt like it was mix girls who could grow hair and that I was just an exception for some reason. Hope your friends little sister is thriving with her hair by now

    Our hair grow so much and we always change up and cut it alot I believe more than any others so people think black women's hair can only be short but that's because we choose to. I just chopped my locs after 1 year I missed my curls and mine grows really fast so I know hair growth is around the corner! I love our hair all textures

  • @therealkenj98
    @therealkenj98 4 роки тому +39

    I just cut my hair off for the 3rd time I love to chop. I only clicked bc you’re gorgeous. I find that when you just enjoy the process and not really stress the “growth” process and to moisturize hair grows like crazy. Also as you said genetics also play a role so people should look at their tree. Everyone won’t have long hair, thick hair, or course hair ya’ know? So get to know your hair if you want growth.

    Drying with a T-Shirt is the one thing I learned from UA-cam. Nothing else new to me, but that T-shirt is just so much easier to use and the shirt dries faster than the towel. Well the satin pillowcase an bonnets were new to me too. I used to use whatever I found in the house like a bandana or random scarf to tie my hair at night

    Fascinating: total opposite of my hair, but I’m interested in how different hair types take care of their natural hair. A lot of the same principles apply to my “old, porous, fine, straight white hair” as they do to your “young, coarse, curly, low-porosity black hair.” Such beautiful hair. Thanks for sharing.

    Great job Ny! I've enjoyed watching your journey growing your hair. I found your channel when I was about 3 years in as a natural but was keeping my hair straight. Your tutorials gave me the courage to try and wear my hair natural and learn how to take care of it. It's been 2 1/2 years since then and I feel great about my hair and my journey. Hair care truly is self care so I agree with your spill at the end about learning how to best take care of it as a part of yourself. I've learned a lot through my hair journey, not just about hair but about myself. Your tips were spot on 👌🏾 Much love from Tennessee ❤️

    Make sure you’re getting to know your OWN hair.
    I was natural for years learning about other naturals hair and using what worked for them for me.
    4 years into my natural journey I big chopped... again and I’ve finally learned MY HAIR.
    My hair likes to be washed 2-3 times a WEEK. my hair is low manipulation but high maintenance. So I can’t use Shea butter and use products with mostly natural ingredients. I can’t wear protective style frequently or any styles really. I use 2 leave ins and a coconut/jajoba oil mixture to seal. And I HAVE to style on damp/dry hair or my hair will not soak up the moisture. So figure out YOUR HAIR. Take note of what works and what doesn’t, feel your hair. And your hair doesn’t have to be soft as silk, not everyone’s hair is.

    • @TZ2nd
      @TZ2nd 4 роки тому +1

      Glamorous BAILY# LOVE you’re so very welcome girlie💙. My tips... 1. just make sure you’re listening and tracking.
      For example, I monitor my shedding. I don’t horde my hair balls but I take note of them week to week to make sure anything I’m doing is not cause breakage. 2. Pay attention to your scalp, I used to scrub my scalp with my nails and my scalp would always be sore. A few weeks ago I started doing natural wash and gos (no manipulative curling) and the pain was still there so I knew it had to be something else. Finally I realized that it was my nails, now I only use the pads of my fingers. Btw I DONT KNOW MY POROSITY, I don’t need to. And you may not either, it never helped me, it only led me astray.

    These are the basics but hair growth is more complicated than that. Well my hair growth. In the end I went to a trichologist for a sore scalp and breakage. The trichologist said the braiding my hair in more than 3 French braids or using any tension would break my hair. My scalp was also inflamed. Inflamed follicles do not produce healthy hair. My hair also needs a fair amount of protein to withstand combing. I have to comb my hair otherwise the fine naturally shed strands wrap around others and cause impossible knots and knots cause more breakage. So most of my hair care journey has been about defending against breakage and making my hair strong. My sister and my mother do not need to comb or brush their hair they can feel the strands to remove. I can't feel my individual strands. Dead ends also create more tangles so trims are important. My hair regimen includes, a chelating shampoo, a clarifying shampoo, a scalp treatment shampoo, a moisturising shampoo, a co-wash, a deep moisture protein-free conditioner, a hard strong protein conditioner, a scalp treatment deep conditioner, lco method, two scalp leave ins, low tension hairstyles, satin headscarf, seamless combs, tangle tweezer for fine fragile hair, hairdressing scissors and regular trims. I kept a hair journal to see the pattern for my hair. And like clockwork every 6 weeks it needs a trim and starts to misbehave. I was thinking of growing it out but then I have to wait 16 weeks before a trim....which I struggled with this first time going so long!

      Wow interesting regimen! Hair care is definitely to each their own but you hit on most of the steps in my video like knowing which shampoo works for you, cowash, deep conditioners, breaking down the lco method, and my tips of satin pillow cases, leaving your hair alone(low manipulation styles) and more! So you took the basics and built on it. Hopefully my video will be of help for those working to perfecting their regimen as you’ve done yours !❤️

      @@oim102ssmith Sure, I can share but just remember these work for my hair in combination and rotation only. A lot of it was trial and error and some of it was from research. It only took me 38 years but I grew up before the Internet. I found the book "the science of black hair" by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy extremely helpful. She recommends products and techniques and his and when to use them. My gentle clarifying shampoo is CURLS Pure Curls. I can use that for anytime my hair has product build up.. Which is rare. My chelating shampoo is Paul Mitchell Shampoo three. This will strip your hair of everything: hard water minerals, sea salt, sweat salts, build up, medication, moisture. Lol! I only use this when I use the hard protein because the hard protein will bind better to my strands if they are "naked" I use the the chelator once every 4-6 weeks depending on how my hair is behaving. My moisturising shampoo is Creme of nature argan oil moisture & shine shampoo. I use this when I have some styling product I want out of my hair cause of flakes. Lol! My co-wash is either L'Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary oil curl cleansing conditioner or Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Complete conditioning Co-wash. I co-wash on average 2/3 times a week but if I go swimming every day some weeks I will use it every day. My scalp treatment shampoo is specially formulated and made by my Trichologist in London England UK where I live. You can only get it if you are a client. I use this once a week. The protein free deep conditioner I use after I use the hard protein every 4-6 weeks or when every my hair need extreme moisture. My strong hard protein conditioner is Aphogee 2 step Protein Treatment. This is only for damaged, fine or highly porous hair. Anyone with low porosity or protein sensitivity should stay away! It will harden your hair but once rinsed out hair should feel stronger and coated in the hydrolyzed liquid keratin and always follow the instructions and follow up with moisturising protein free deep conditioner. I use this every 4-6 weeks. My scalp treatment deep conditioner I use weekly and is specially formulated and made by my trichologist. My creamy leave in's are by Aphogee, Cantu and Giovanni. I mix them around. I have two leave in for my hair from the trichologist. They are not my favourite but I use them daily. My liquid leave in are by Aphogee (for daily light protein) and one homemade with only pure rose water and aloe Vera juice (for moisture) I have a scalp spray and a scalp cream-gel from the trichologist. Those are the two scalp leave in's. Leave in's I use once or twice daily. . I use oils like castor oil and olive oil and shea butter to seal in moisture. I only use the sealants now about once a week because the leave ins from the trichologist has a sealant in it already.

      @@nymcfly thanks. I wouldn't say it's perfecting because it can change as I age, have children, move to a new location etc. But at least after 38 years, I now know how to handle dryness, breakage and hair loss. Yes your tips are good for people now starting their natural curly kinky coily hair journey! Wish you were around when I started 10 years ago! A hair journal and reading the ingredients lists are essential to figuring it out for some people like me! For example my hair is not here for glycerin in the winter so I had to make my own glycerin-free leave in spray for the winter months!

      Marley Hill Thank you for sharing. I asked bc my situation is similar to yours. At one point the crown of my scalp was super tender; the slightest touch would hurt, and my hair is breaking easily.
