I'm number 5. I've been doing this since 1994 with MTG and then Pokemon. I've always been a collector/speculator since I was a kid and it's made me a lot of money. I even did this as a kid with TMNT figures.
But it wasn't for the love of money that I did this. I just enjoyed figuring out the markets on the collectibles I enjoyed. It was always seeing how many steps ahead of the market I could be. Knowing and seeing the future value in something that no one else suspects is a great feeling.

@@godlyishere9381 At some point I'll sell some of my pokemon stuff and TMNT stuff. I've already dumped 99.9999% of my MTG singles/sealed product over the past 4 years as I have not been a fan of what WOTC has done to the game and how they're printing cards into the ground.
IMO, it's only a matter of time until they reprint the Reserved List and even go back and reprint old sets.
For my Pokemon/TMNT stuff, I'd like to give most of it to my kids. I'd like to open more and more with my kids as they get older if they want to, just for fun.
As they get older, it will be fun/nice to sell a box of cards and buy them a car, etc.
Being a collector/speculator/"investor" comes with the complication that while there is a bit of a "making money" mindset behind it, the collector aspect is what really rules, which makes it hard to sell things unless companies pull a WOTC which makes it a no brainer to sell and jsut move on.

Tbh... We've bought tons of product, to simply open, chase the chase, my one main goal was to finish my Crown Zenith Galleries set... Which I've just finished 1year in. And three cards from Silver Tempest...
Long and short, we opened products, we could've kept for 6months and sold and close to doubled the money, but we didn't cause we enjoy opening the products and we have pretty nice binder collections... ❤

There’s nothing wrong with having fun that’s what it’s all about anyway that’s why I ordered some boxes for my self to enjoy for Christmas (another tcg) I collect and sell in
im about a knowledge level 1 and investing level 3, got super lucky that the most money i was spending on pokemon was during eevee heroes and evolving skies as i bought into all the hype at the time, so thanks pokemon investing community lol.

I would say I’m right there with you at level 3. My knowledge of English is stronger than Japanese but still learning everyday thanks to content creators like you!

That one lucky guy, I’m level 10 I just found 3 first edition cases in my dads attic 🤣 (I’m level 2 in Pokémon but if we’re talking all tcg I’m level 3) and then you got people who are level 100 finding 3 1900 Mickey mantles in a binder 😳 people are pretty lucky when they buy a house and find that treasure in the attic, true story

I’d say level 2 here…new to Pokemon collecting but not to collecting in general…grew up collecting sports cards and comic books…I, too, have regrets about not keeping stuff I had earlier…new to Pokemon investing but not to investing in general…studying the game and its nuances through your channel (my favorite) and many others, like Rudy. I’m mostly in later SWSH sets…Silver Tempest, Chilling Reign, Lost Origin, Fusion Strike…I did buy 3 cases of Paldea Evolved but I’ve held myself off from other SV sets so far, listening to you and others, and trying to stock up where it’s likeliest to go up most first…I have a case of Evo Skies, Shining Fates and Hidden Fates ETBs and a few Crown Zenith Collection boxes…from this point on, I’m going to be focusing on booster boxes and special UPCs…and only think about ETBs, as an investment position, with the holiday sets. Thanks for the information!

Level 2.5 id say ... Made some mistakes earlier on in my poke investing journey, but have done lots of research, and feel like i have a pretty good grasp on things now. Just a bit under 10K into the market now.

Don’t know we’re I sit in the levels but my investment strategy is to get 2 PC etbs, 1 booster box, 1 art set, 1 BB stadium box, the 2 check lane blisters and the 2 triple blisters for each set. This totals less than £300 every 3 months. In addition I try to get the Vault X binder for each set and if I can afford it a Raw copy of the top chase card for each set! I find this soothe my collector itch so I I’m not tempted to open anything. So far I’ve done this for every set since chilling reign. Exit strategy I retire in 14 years so sell it all and buy a camper van 😂

I'm probably a solid 2, I got in at the start of SW&SH with NO knowledge whatsoever. Starting with standard ETB's and soon moved to PC ETBS only, then I got into Booster boxes. I bought a few other products like the lunch boxes and realized instantly they were too big to store for the long haul. I also bought some tins but they were loose (now they just annoy me lol) I've now got the odd sealed box of 3-pack blisters. Plus a few UPC's, 7 x Zard, 3 x Arceus and 4 x 151's. Plus I love the sealed investment side of things, watching all the related videos, waiting for the next big set, picking up deals, it all add to the fun ;) Keep up the good work mate

I think I’m around a level 1.5 to 2 and I’ve still got a lot to learn …so far I’ve mainly invested in English & Japanese booster boxes which makes up 90% of my sealed collection.
I poured a lot into evolving skies, gx tag team, eevee heroes & chilling reign bb’s over a year ago and this year I’ve been slowly acquiring lost origin, brilliant stars & Japanese 151 bb’s.
I like booster boxes as an investment because they’re a versatile product, you can sell them as a sealed box and when they start to become too expensive and unobtainable for most you can break them down and sell the packs individually.

Love your insight and takes; I was thinking if at somewhere like level 5, the individual also has some kind of reputable store or online presence (e.g. UA-camrs) to be able to sell stuff, especially the more obscure/illiquid, more easily than someone without!
That's definitely a good point mate. An outlet to sell bulk! A patreon or a reputable store 👌

Level 3 here, love the video. Your example at the end was easy to follow but unfortunately I would say the vast majority of boxes won’t double that fast. It will take years and years except for the few exceptions. So level 5 in my opinion is someone who hits on those exceptions and avoids a lot of the big busts. E.g. they have a large investment in Evolving Skies but not Shining Fates or whatever you may have it because they understand the Pokémon specifics of it all

I'm getting quite the ugly pile of collection boxes in my closet, but pack selection/Pokemon promos have a lot to do with what I buy. Like I'm not going to buy Cyclizar Ex boxes, but the Alakazam Ex box has an Evolving Skies in it at least.
Most of the loose tins I buy because they've got decent packs inside (Evolving Skies is a recurring theme here).
There's certainly some good collection boxes (something with a good promo and nice pack selection).

I'm level 0.. I don't think I'll collect anything after 151 (Korean). I already overpaid for what would essentially be like 6 booster boxes in rapid auctions on Whatnot. And have ordered 10 more boxes and planning to open all of it. Since Korean isn't popular I doubt I can resell my extra hits, let alone non-holo and holo bulk. But I'm having fun with it. 😅😅

i am level 3, i only started in 2022 with a couple evolving skies boxes. i am fine with staying level 3 bc i dont have much storage and dont want to put too much in something thats somewhat illiquid (does not sound fun to me lol). i did just buy a couple of 151 japanese boxes. I dont plan to sell my boxes tho, pokemon is like gold bricks but way better

Level 2 collectors: I would go for collection boxes that have alt art promo cards and include set that are not only desirable to the market but also yourself.
151 collection boxes are the go-to at the moment. Paldean Fates will be next big investment release for me

I’m probably at about level 4. I buy 5 cases whenever a new set drops of booster boxes/ etbs when it’s a specialty set. And I eventually grab myself 1 psa 10 of every ultra rare or higher in a set to satisfy my collectors itch.

Maybe 4.. but I'm not all pokemon. Been collecting sports cards since 1999 mostly singles and some sealed.. Yugioh 2017. Pokemon 2019ish. Best pokemon buy was 10 booster box cases of Evolving skies at $120/box, 2 cases of Blue sky stream ($70/box), and those Eevee hero gym boxes at $325. My worst buy so far prob shining fates/vivid voltage etbs at msrp, that $ coulda been spent better elsewhere but had no clue they would print those specific sets into oblivion. I enjoy grading cards, that's where I do my best in increasing value. IG same name.
I agree on the vivid ETBs. It screamed good news at launch! An ETB that was vibrant and had pikachu on it! It's a shame they got printed to the ground!

Trying to get a case of booster boxes for each set and a case of etbs for the special sets, but I also try and pick up other products if they are a good deal.
Like today, scored a rebel clash 3 pack blister with Ray promo for $19 from cash converters haha couldn’t believe it when I checked last sold were like $50/60 👌🏼

Level 4 is a bit specific, there were opportunities to make sizeable gains in 2020 without travelling too far back

Interesting video I would say I’m 2/3 but I would say if you pick the right collection boxes down the road
Like the Arceus v box with cosmic in them
And Amazon have the kyrum v box with two evolving skies and two lost origin for £20 which is a steal in the UK

That's sort of where I'm stuck at. Devoting all disposable income to go to level 4 and not putting it in other investment streams sou d's a touch risky!
What do you think about the 3 pack Paldean Fates blisters with the shiny promo cards and stickers?
I bought a case of 12 of those because it’s 36 packs same as a booster box which they don’t make.

Yeah, it's grown pretty big. I think close to 60,000 members. But it does seem full of people "just starting out" or seeing what their "card is worth". The mods seem cool and I'd like to see the end of the what's my card worth posts and see some more in depth discussion and guides to what products to pick up!
I'm Level 3 and maybe I'll become a Level 4 someday. I don't think I want to be Level 5. I'd rather devote my life to other things. 😉

Personally I'd hold but if you need the money, that's a decent gain in a very short period of time!
