    It's worth noting that the first two lines you start tracing are coming from the high altitude compensator, which isn't present on most 22r carbs I've seen. Most have those lines plugged on the carb side with black stoppers. The HAC was a factory option, one that supposedly didn't work very well. Cool to have, but it'll be missing for lots of people. This is normal.

    Thanks, I had to take my head off and when it came to putting all the pipes back, I couldn't remember so nicely, so now I'm going to double check my pipes, but you have a few extra pipes and valves. Some of your extra pipes must be for speed cruise.

    Great content especially for these old vacuum controlled engines. I was hoping yo see the installation of the fuel pipes. I think I should have mounted them BEFORE installing the intake manifold. They weren't screwed in before I did the valve job ant I forgot to get a good look before I reinstalled the intake.

    Years ago I would have loved this video. I ended up pulling most of the hoses, after getting tired of trying to keep them all working good over the years, and went de-smog. Best decision yet. Have two 81' 22r sr5's now that are more reliable, run cleaner and stronger like this.
    I will add that where I live, the emissions aren't as strict as places like California or some other states.

    • @IsaacDozier1
      @IsaacDozier1  4 роки тому

      I plan on doing something similar as I'll mostly be using the truck off-road.
      I figure I should make a video while the hoses are still attached.
      The 22R engine is a blast to work on.
      Getting those hoses and canisters out of the way would be the icing on the cake.

    • @matthewschampion
      @matthewschampion 4 роки тому +1

      Did the same, then moved to a place where it’s all required for a visual component to an emissions test. If you de-smog, I hope you save the parts- wish I had!

    • @lilspikes81
      @lilspikes81 4 роки тому

      @@matthewschampion For sure, I have a habit of saving old parts in crates anyway. These parts are trash though. I will not need smog on these trucks ever again. In my situation, it made more sense to have a reliable, simple setup. The octopus hoard of hoses I pulled out was not helping anything and the engine wouldn't even idol with it all hooked up.. The desmog kit is the way to go if your place of residence allows. A truck that needs the whole emissions done is going to be a nightmare. At that point, you could turn it into a strictly off-road vehicle.

    What’s about a grounding wiring video?
    The ground I have in the firewall has the terminal broken and I’m pretty sure it’s going to the engine, but where? I’m worried too bc I read somewhere that the EGR has one too, I want to make sure it has it connected right
    Could you be that kind to record another one relative to the Pickup grounding?
    Thanks

    Thankyou, sincerely. I think I have the same book but the drawing leaves a lot to be desired. Did I miss the 2 in the bottom of the air cleaner container? I’m trying to figure out what the diaphragm in there does?? Any idea? Pretty sure my float level is to high and the choke isn’t working properly. Left side flap is just staying closed. Occasionally it is very inconvenient with a no start condition

    I think you have the market cornered for this year and carburetor type. There is a huge void for data pertaining to vacuum lines on a 86 22R.
    Worst part about it is how finicky this engine is for tuning process!

      My '86 Truck w/ 22r is having idling issues, vacuum lines are suspect. This video is super helpful. FSM is grainy and lacking detail. Is there something particular about vacuum lines in an '86? I notice the one in the video has the high altitude compensator (the canister connected to the first two lines you start tracing). This is pretty rare, my carb, and most I've seen, have those port plugged on the carb side, even though it shows up in the FSM.

    Gday mate, I was hoping you could help me with the app valve on my carb. The car was running very rich and mixture screw bedded had no effect. I disconnected the aap vacuum and it was obvious fuel was getting straight into the intake. With it disconnected it runs smooth no spitting no black smoke. Question is can I just plug the line and cap the aap or will this cause other issues? Thanks joe.

      22RE? There are a couple potential places to look for the diagnostics port. All you need is a paper clip. There is a diagnostic box on the passengers side near the fuse box in the engine bay. If you don't have a diagnostic box there, check the drivers side, next to the coil.. there should be 2 or 3 plugs (maybe leading into the fender). Find the one with 2 wires leading to it, that's gonna be your diagnostics port.
