i second the ID4. good friend of mine's parents have one. he's retired USAF and they drive all over the US now. car does great, charges quick, they have absolutely zero complaints, and have never owned an EV prior. they went from stuff like big Tahoes and sedans to this. i just checked a couple of them out at my local vw shop. 41k for an entry level model, about 50k for one with some nice trim options. that's pretty cheap compared to a lot of its competition. also RUMOR the EV1 is in crash and safety testing for the US market. if it passes, it should be launching with a base of 27k, making it the cheapest 4 passenger EV in the states for the upcoming model years

Another gripe I have on piano blacks at the center: At certain times of the day, sunlight can reflect off it, causing glare. Also, curious on how you acquire these cars for reviews. Rentals?
This review has so much subjective preference in it is ridiculous. I prefer the original merc look over this car, but I'm in Europe, you think all NA cars look cool, but they just aren't from a Euro perspective. Moaning about the window not going down all the way, who cares!? 4.7s to 60mph, yeah slower than it should be, but who would sniff at that speed, most ppl find extreme acceleration just painful. Got to agree with the capacitive button thing, plus the confusing ui. But yeah, appreciate it if you could leave out your personal preferences.
Do sponsors care that there are timestamps for their ads? Cause the timestamps are really useful for me to skip sponsors right away lol, can't imagine they like that
Flush handles is bs marketing the handle of a car is in the "wake" of the side mirrors and the decrease in draft is an insignificant gain in fuel efficiency.
Mercedes capacitive touch buttons just look and feel so cheap. Every single one of them results in the whole panel moving, which is just bad. Not to mention they're all in piano black, which means smeary-looking buttons all the time, no matter what. Piano black is the worst material to put in a car, especially such an expensive premium car. It's just cheap plastic with a high-gloss finish that shows every speck of dirt and grime that you have ever had on your fingers.
There should be a pole behind the steering wheel that twists to turn on heated steering wheel. And Apple Maps on CarPlay will integrate the next turn into the car’s dashboard (haven’t tried HUD).
11:22 And you shouldn’t have any part of your body outside of the car while moving if you have any attachment to said body parts. Things outside of the vehicle tend to not fare well in accidents/crashes. “Please keep your arms and legs inside the moving vehicle at all times!”
Having the same car as Alex (right down to the colour) I'm desperate to know how he's set up the equalizer. Is this posted anywhere? Can you shed some light?
Winter tires are usually slimmer than summer tires because they shall sink into dense snow. This gives a better range because they have less friction on asphalt.
I will never consider an EV that doesn't have a frunk.. Because the charging cable, spare windshield wiper fluids, and other misc stuff that is always in your car ends up taking space in the trunk. I really do not get why BMW and Mercedes aren't getting this. Also the Mercedes EQ series looks like fucking garbage, their cars look worse than Teslas do. All I want is an electric GLC that doesn't look like a honda
Might be their European mindset...I'm not saying this out of malice, but out of the fact that as North Americans, we drive more and farther than the average European (lack of cross country mass transit). With that, we expect bigger more stable interiors, more room, and especially...more convenience. I think until European car companies take that into mind with these new EV vehicles, the companies native to North America would fare better in sales and appeal.
@@jayc1139 except every other European brand DOES have a frunk. it's just mercedes and BMW that do this. Also i will never consider a car that can't drive atleast 600 - 800 km minimum especially if charging takes somewhere in between 30 - 70 minutes.

I just went from a 2020 e-series wagon to the 2022. The newer interiors are a notable downgrade from the older ones. The capacitatve buttons just suck. Require way too much precision. It's super frustrating to feel the click, but not activate the function you're clicking. The steering wheel on my old wagon kicked ass. The new one, which is the same that this review shows, is just bad.
I went to the EQ Experience in Alabama. Let me tell you, they has Tesla Plaids there to compare and the Mercedes was hands down better in every single aspect. I would never get a Tesla. Yeah they were first but they no longer are the best. Mercedes was comfier, easier to drive, better steering and the build quality was hands down better. They also have a lot of checks and balances with the battery process. Also Mercedes will soon be making their own motors for the EV vehicles.
I love that Merc one of the OLDEST car companies in the world, is the one struggling the hardest to make a decent EV, whilst brand new chinese car companies like BYD are making some pretty sweet cars. I honestly wish VW would just bring back the "e-Golf" rather than the ID2. I have little Desire for any of the damn EVs on the market. Just make a nice car, and make it Electric... the I4 comes close. but costs like a gazillion dollars.

Definitely the tires were the culprit for the noisy ride on the highway. It's noticable the difference compared to non winter tires. The design on the eq(ses) don't attract me honestly. However is way better than many other EVs lol
11:28 Video Editor cut that part cause Alexander was practicing unsafe driving.
Alexander can you drive more save and show us how it drives in corners?
I know EVs all look like eggs (source: i drive an egg-shaped model 3) but, my god... _this looks like a fucking egg._
Please, can you use the metric system?
Well there are different driving modes on the EQE... You just have to press the Dynamic button under the display. Did you just drive it in comfort?
I used to drive an E class wagon from 2002 and it had the most comfortable suspension, but it bottomed out all the time because of it. Driving a car with a slightly firmer suspension honestly made such a large difference 👌🏼
Shout out to the stretch of road they keep using for these videos just past Swan-e-Set golf club (which is where the road suddenly gets quiet... on the edge of their property). I use the same stretch of road for automotive beauty shots with that mountain background...
I find that I usually disagree with Alex with it comes to aesthetics.
There should be a next track button on the steering wheel.
I like Alex's car reviews, extremely informative with a good amount of roasting of the company where necessary 😂Jolly good show @ShortCircuit
Why don't you test the hyperscreen?
0:43 don't use winter tires at 30 degrees out thats below freezing for most of your viewing population lol
Why i drive a skoda, its just so practical and easy to use. Put nice wheels and good to go
My dad has an vw id4 and there is 3 things i like: The clean design, the silence combined with good speakers which makes listening to music while driving a pleasure and the fact, that that thing has down 50k kilometres now and hasnt had any problems. Wire changes my dad does himselve so it was never in a car workshop. Like ever. For some cars 50k kilometres is half of their lifetime.
A car at 50k is usually in it's infancy, but corporate greed has changed that. A good car is designed to last 500k minimum.
@@undercoverneunzehn my 87 audi 5000 cs quattro had a broken odometer at 332k miles, and when i bought it, the guy said that had broken 7 years prior, and he drove from OKC to dallas EVERY DAY..... and it still ran well over 145mph on that little 2.2 turbo. a proper highway burner.
i second the ID4. good friend of mine's parents have one. he's retired USAF and they drive all over the US now. car does great, charges quick, they have absolutely zero complaints, and have never owned an EV prior. they went from stuff like big Tahoes and sedans to this. i just checked a couple of them out at my local vw shop. 41k for an entry level model, about 50k for one with some nice trim options. that's pretty cheap compared to a lot of its competition. also RUMOR the EV1 is in crash and safety testing for the US market. if it passes, it should be launching with a base of 27k, making it the cheapest 4 passenger EV in the states for the upcoming model years
ID4 is so boring to drive. I am generally traveling alone and that too office commutes or shopping but spending 50k on a car and i still wouldn't get the fun to drive element then what's the point in ownership.
@@chadultrapromax1735 It's exactly as much fun to drive as any other EV-SUV in that size bracket and since it's an EV it's still a lot more fun than any similar ICE-SUV. So I don't really get your point after having driven loads of different EVs in the last year.
You know it is gonna be a good video when Alex is in it. "SHUT UP MERCEDES"
there are bigger next and back buttons for music though
I really appreciate the song choice 🤙🏼
I've said this before but I would appreciate if the editors for these videos could add unit conversions to the screen when values are given. You've done it for the price, why not power, torque, etc.?
The window not going down all the way might be a calibration issue.
Could you do a video showing electric car range on used cars? Older Tesla’s or something like a hatchback?
Im not a car guy and yet i love those car review videos, keep it up alex
I have no intention of buying an EV but watch these videos because of how entertaining Alex is in them.
If your door handles are in the wake of your rear view mirror, you're probably dead
I really HATE those capacitive buttons
11:22 And you shouldn’t have any part of your body outside of the car while moving if you have any attachment to said body parts. Things outside of the vehicle tend to not fare well in accidents/crashes. “Please keep your arms and legs inside the moving vehicle at all times!”
2:14 But have you actually tried traveling 500km? And keep winter in mind, in which the range will drop massively.
Having the same car as Alex (right down to the colour) I'm desperate to know how he's set up the equalizer. Is this posted anywhere? Can you shed some light?
hey Editor, for the next car video, can you also show the kW, Nm and kg?
Yes please!
$40k more for those basic features?! Oh hell no.
11:20 Devil's Advocate: You're _supposed_ to have both hands on the wheel at all times, so...
Alex shouting shaddap at the car is giving me "Shoes" vibes
Does the winter tire affect range in any way?
Winter tires are usually slimmer than summer tires because they shall sink into dense snow. This gives a better range because they have less friction on asphalt.
where in BC is this video shot at? looks beautiful.
I love that Mercedes did program in a berating reaction
I want an Alex and Donut Media collab!
@@therodyman700 As far as I know no Renault, VW group or Stellantis group EV have a frunk and those make the majority of the car sales in EU. The only EU car brands that have frunks in their EVs are Jaguar and Volvo which aren't that common.
Can you make one one the EQB next?
Interesting review, one thing to consider is that neither the Lyriq or the Genesis are available in Europe
Looks like a honda from 6 years ago, cars are so ugly now. Bring back 2000 sports cars with no emissions nonsense
Love the car reviews!
Can you also review the Lotus Eletre and cars like the Fisker Ocean?
I love that Merc one of the OLDEST car companies in the world, is the one struggling the hardest to make a decent EV, whilst brand new chinese car companies like BYD are making some pretty sweet cars. I honestly wish VW would just bring back the "e-Golf" rather than the ID2. I have little Desire for any of the damn EVs on the market. Just make a nice car, and make it Electric... the I4 comes close. but costs like a gazillion dollars.
Should look into how they test the range, that’ll explain why you get more then advertised
I just love the Alex car reviews!!
Alexander ShortCircuit!
Y freak out my eyes with that shirt, mang? 😵
😂
I like the bean look. Bring on the aerodynamic beans!
so how much of this car was locked behind a subscription? Is MB still doing that
I know this goes against the all NA-encompassing hive mind, but can we get some metric units when you're mentioning numbers in imperial units please?
5:19 Why does this car have NFC?
When do you guys test the new BMW i5? There will also come a Touring (estate) Version next year.
How does it do around cliché corner?
