EQE 350+ would be my pick. Watched a review of the AMG version and I was blown away by the amount of tech. And that hyperscreen…marvelous, simply marvelous. Kudos to the MB Design team. Well done.
Elephant in room - the comparison to the GLE isn't only about EQE 350 vs GLE 350 and EQE 500 vs GLE 580. You also need to think about EQE 350 vs GLE 580, and even EQE 500 vs GLE 53/63AMG since those are somewhat closer price equivalents. The story isn't simply "spend a bit more to get electric that is more powerful" when you could also spend about the same to get similar power on the ICE cars.
When comparing EVs and ICEs, you have to consider that EVs cannot deliver their performance permanently, which especially becomes a problem with towing and high cruise speeds.
It’s interesting on the rear seat, as the EQC does have a button that allows you to pop the seats down from the trunk. Another thing I noticed is that the EQC comes with a lockable under-floor storage area (the key is in the fob) and very useful for Europe where cars get broken into frequently.
We love our EQS 580 with its amazing rear steering, pillar to pillar Hyperscreen, 4 level ambient lighting, massage seats, 400 mi range, fragrance dispenser, front & rear pillows, and intuitive software. Lane changing with adaptive cruise control works perfectly. Tesla charges $6K more for this feature. But it’s not without flaws. No EV should have a start/stop button. It should have walk-away locking. AC charging should be 48A, not 40 and DC Fast charging should be 250kW vs 200 for this luxury car. The hood should have some storage and a place for windshield washer fluid.
If I could comment photos, I would show you that in fact, some will Off Road the EQE SUV. With their low center of gravity, they are surprisingly capable. I exceeded 35 degrees of pitch and roll.
I agree. I've only seen two EQS SUVs so far and am yet to see the EQE SUV, but the sedans do not look very good, especially compared against Porsche, Audi, and Lucid competitors.
Heated rear seats are a 1,500 option (as well as a heated steering wheel). Also, that "touch" sunroof opener is the same thing as in the ID4, one of the touch controls everyone complains about in that car.
@ginco_bnz nice attitude, maybe one day you will be able to afford something other than a C Class..... come back when you can play with the rest of the adults.
I will never understand EVs prioritizing power over range. The 500 has less range than the 350? Take all of that extra power and put it towards another 100+ miles of range.

So this feature is neither new nor special. At least in German cars.
The design and name makes me wonder too. As a german car fan I like the GLE way more, it has a stance on the street and looks massive here in Europe. The whole EQ lineup looks kinda boring, the Model X looks still better IMO. MAYBE they will make a better design with the second generation, first one is focusing on tech (first Teslas looked not relevant too) :D
It's hard to make a beautiful aero efficient car - I am biased....I know as a German guy - but The Model X is not a beautiful car and not luxury inside / outside, also its in the price category of the EQS-SUV. The EQE is one category below - way better in almost everything. Almost? Yes the app /software integration and charging network is better from Tesla.

Not only what JL said but recording audio accurately enough to demonstrate to the viewer how it sounds is difficult. It’s only going to sound as good as his audio recording equipment (which being just standard clip on mics meant to pick up people talking) everything would generally sound the same.
I own one, the all wheel steering is wonderful. The car is quiet, comfortable and plenty fast. I chose the 350 4matic and added the software unlocked acceleration increase. I preferred the bland styling over the outright ugliness of a BMW. And view the cost over the gas GLE version something of a wash considering the cost of premium gas bs home charging electricity. The externalized carbon impact cost of a GLE was also a factor for me. So far a happy customer after 4000 miles.

We were just car shopping and seriously considered the EQB, which had the typical Mercedes styling and also offers a third row seat. It’s also far far cheaper than the EQE. If it only had more competitive range and charging speeds we would have bought it, as the lease was actually going to be cheaper than the EV6 we ended up buying. @@morstyrannis1951 German cars depreciate heavily mainly due to high cost of the maintenance especially when the warranty is over, EV German cars might be quite different from this as EVs require far less chance for maintenance so.. we will see what's going to happen.
I guess you had to be enthusiastic about this "space ship" when reviewing it. It reminds me of the Hi-Fi systems that came out in the 70's with tons of buttons and features you didn't need but people bought because they thought friends would be impressed when they played ABBA loudly. I seriously think Mercedes has gone completely off track but hey, maybe that's the way their Chinese customers want it ...
But those hifi systems at least felt like quality products. Not the cheap creeky plastic feel.
These vehicles are targeted at people looking for an ostentatious status symbol. The streets would be much safer if these purchasers could afford a chauffeur with every purchase.
Lol you know how much those 70s stereo equipment go for now?
Looks like Doug mixed up the power numbers with another model because the EQE 500 has 300 kW (402hp). You can get rear heated seats in the Mercedes EQE / EQE SUV. This is one is just not equipped with that option. You can also configure it to have heated and cooled seats. It's still a really good video! Love the way he shows cars.
What can you expect from a C- Marketing graduate from Emory. Not the brightest bulb, but sure fun to watch
@@ozarkliving7263Pretty bright considering he is a multimillionaire :P
so happy we are finally done with the joint co-reviews.
Imagine having to tell people that you have an EQE and then specifying that it is the SUV version
I Know they might get over excited to sit in a jellybean car lol. I agree the naming convention is stupid that you must clarify which car you're referring to.
since its electric GLE should have been called by the old name MLE
@@nenadf124 or the EQM
Mercedes G550 is an SUV
EQE is just a tall station wagon with high roof. "Off road setting" is whenever you're going through a 2 inches puddle
Still waiting for the new land cruiser review! Was hoping you would be all over that since you have the 200 series.
to hold you over ua-cam.com/video/25x5jrNRi2s/v-deo.html
Land Cruiser isn’t drivable yet
It’s interesting on the rear seat, as the EQC does have a button that allows you to pop the seats down from the trunk. Another thing I noticed is that the EQC comes with a lockable under-floor storage area (the key is in the fob) and very useful for Europe where cars get broken into frequently.
" Europe where cars get broken into frequently"
You suppose you haven't been to the US much.
A car so modern and luxurious it has the fingerprint settings button like my 2005 Audi A8.
hahahaha true that. BTW I do repair videos on D3 amd D4 audi a8 s. might want to check my channel
Given how much cheaper the Audi Q8 e-tron is, this looks like a shocker from Merc.
I actually own one of these, Got it two weeks ago. So far so good. I dont regret getting it instead of the EQC
Looks like a nice car, I like both the interior and exterior styling. The screens don't look like an afterthought.
Ugly exterior but nice interior
just curious, did you buy, finance or lease?
@@rodgerk. I bought it.
I like this better than the EQS SUV because it doesn’t have the unnecessary hyperscreen
Hyperscreen is optional for both
I bet you can get it when you option it to be there at additional cost.
The hyper screen is an expensive option on all EQE and EQS M B.
Thanks Dough for this review. Enjoyed the few points you pointed out in the interior and exterior.
If I could comment photos, I would show you that in fact, some will Off Road the EQE SUV. With their low center of gravity, they are surprisingly capable. I exceeded 35 degrees of pitch and roll.
W driver
you forgot to explain about the rear wheel turning.
Doug present the newest egg, welcome to the future of cars
newest what??
That wood paneling is HIDEOUS
Dash is so ugly, takes away so much space up front.
The EQ* design language works a lot better on this SUV than it does on the sedans. Still not beautiful, but better.
I agree. I've only seen two EQS SUVs so far and am yet to see the EQE SUV, but the sedans do not look very good, especially compared against Porsche, Audi, and Lucid competitors.
Out of all the Luxury EV SUVs, the Cadillac Lryiq looks the best
Best value as well. Tested the Lyriq recently and loved it. Well equipped at just 67k compared to this nonsense at 100k.
Heated rear seats are a 1,500 option (as well as a heated steering wheel). Also, that "touch" sunroof opener is the same thing as in the ID4, one of the touch controls everyone complains about in that car.
Typical Doug, misses so many details.
"Imagine if Honda called the Pilot the Accord SUV"
*sad Crosstour noises*
The lack of physical controls, are a instant deal breaker for me.
These cars are crap electric cars are a flop, Synthetic fuel is coming.
Then you were never in the market for this or any other electric car. Stop pretending like you were going to buy this.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. bet against all these EV companies. Make your money.
@ginco_bnz nice attitude, maybe one day you will be able to afford something other than a C Class..... come back when you can play with the rest of the adults.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. synthetic fuel is for lawnmowers and trimmers
💯% agree with the styling of BMW, Mercedes EQE, Range Rover etc.
I will never understand EVs prioritizing power over range. The 500 has less range than the 350? Take all of that extra power and put it towards another 100+ miles of range.
We grabbed ours for $20k less as it was a lease return with two.k miles. We got the MCPO 6 year unlimited warranty and three years of free DC charging plus Tesla network starting Jan 24.
The interior looks SOOOOOOOOOOO much better without the hyperscreen bullcrap
Dashboard looks like a dinner table, so ugly. But hyperscreen is even worse.
@@00_UU better than a sea of piano black that will show every spec of dust and every smudge possible
@@Darx97 sure, piano plastic is bad, but why make a dash horizontal and angled? It looks like a shelf.
@@00_UU well because someone at mercedes thought it was a good idea to design the dash with the hyperscreen first in mind and then a normal version, i dont say is the best design ever, just better than having the displays
No one on planet earth will pay $100k for that
I definitely prefer the GLE this has less of a shape and more of an egg shape
dr eggman'd love 1 of these
Lets just be real, all of these Mercedes electric cars look ugly. The EQS looks like an 8th gen Honda Civic, but worse. And this one looks like a current gen Honda HRV, but worse.
This and the EQS are literally blobs.
Some of the most disgusting looking cars you can currently buy
@@WhenItsHalfPastFive then there's the eqe... 🤮
@@WTFisToast that’s what I’m thinking on the GLE also if you get the amg you get metal side fenders and on the EQE amg line you get plastic, Mercedes cost cutting again, even if they’re my favourite car brand I hate a lot of what they’re doing now
Pinstripes? I suspect it's supposed to look like decking planks - as in deck of a boat.
It doesn't look good. But I'd prefer better efficiency over better looks. I think they are on a good track with this decision.
Doug's the type of guy to have a part of his video specifically for a distinct quiet noise the car makes, but doesn't put his seat belt on and his audience hears the "put your seat belt on" chime
This looks like the 10th crossover in Kia’s lineup.
The fingerprint feature requires an account with Mercedes Me. Are they charging you a monthly fee to operate the personalization features?
Not a fan of the looks but the interior is great. I have the new C class and the tech is great, I do prefer the previous steering wheel and dynamic switch over this but its not a dealbreaker for me. Great sound system with 3D burmester surround too but could use a sub like in the E and S class. Even the A class has one.
I imagine that Mercedes will go back to more real buttons in the next generation - depending on the feedback from the clients
Doug is the type of guy who gets excited about the idea of popping the trunk open by pressing the top of the logo and calls it a great idea even though BMW has been doing it since mid 2000s
"Imagine if Honda called the Pilot the Accord SUV...". *Taurus X enters the chat *
Ford Mustang Mach-e enters the chat
@@rodgerk. You mean Ford Mach-E?
@@LAndrewsChannel It's called the "Ford Mustang Mach-E". You see, the Mustang is a coupe and the Mustang Mach-E is a SUV, so it fits with the "Accord SUV" joke.
@@rodgerk. Fair enough.
theres no way i would pay 100 grand for a boring suv that makes no sound and needs 10 hours to charge on road trip. defeats the whole purpose of an suv...
My Opel Astra model K was launched in 2015 and even this car (gasoline engine) already tells me via the display in the cockpit which consumers are currently consuming how much gasoline, i.e. air conditioning 0.5l/h, fan ventilation 0.3l/h). So this feature is neither new nor special. At least in German cars.
Could be worse, doug. If they called it the EXE and when it eventually bricks up, you could say EXE has stopped working😆
The model X has the profile of a slug though
Model X is one of the ugliest EVs out there.
Gonna buy one next week for 40k hehe
I like the styling a lot. It's a bit understated and timeless. You still gonna like this car in 5 years from now. More classy than the "in your face" electric designs of other brands.
Are you high?
Really good review if a bit generous. Think you hit the nail on the head that no one would believe thats a 6 figure car
Doug is probably the best car reviewer on UA-cam. If only he features reviewing the sound systems of these amazing cars, that would be great.
He'd have to find public domain music.
Not only what JL said but recording audio accurately enough to demonstrate to the viewer how it sounds is difficult. It’s only going to sound as good as his audio recording equipment (which being just standard clip on mics meant to pick up people talking) everything would generally sound the same.
Doug's not much of an audio guy. There are videos that had him befuddled by equalizers
It was the best "THISSS" I've ever heard! Thanks a lot! ;)
Until you have to scrap your entire vehicle at year 10 or 11 due to significantly diminished, non-replaceable batteries
Lol saw one of these by the office the other day, didn’t know what it was, thanks Doug
I miss times when new Benz release was anticipated and exciting.
I hate how car brands convinced people that, their ugly, unfinished dash is somehow beautiful, modern, futuristic and minimalistic. 🐑
My current manager has an EQE 300. It’s unnervingly fast in acceleration and it gave me the first hand experience of the power of electric cars.
The interior of modern Mercedes in the photos looks ok but in real world are quite good. I was amaze how good it feels inside despite the not very flashy exterior. Nice cars 👌
The interior - well the front anyway - just feels very claustrophobic. I'm not sure I'd wanted to spend too much time in this car, especially as a passegener.
Agree, either the camera is telling lies, or Doug is getting paid to move these.
You hit the nail on the head it looks like a Mazda CX-5 lol definitely does not look like a 6 figure car
CX-5 looks better except EQE taillights are nicer.
Looks nothing like a CX-5 lol
I don’t understand Mercedes gauge clusters. They’re just a tablet stuck to the dashboard. Why did they stop integrating it? It looks so bad
It is imperative that automotive journalists/influencers like yourself SHOUT at manufacturers that capacitive buttons/touchpads are neither futuristic nor logical, let alone SAFE!!!!
One dial at least would be nice. Sliding a finger to control volume just doesn’t work that well.
Buying fully electric is like throwing money down the drain. No thanks.
Hehe energy management "Divert all power from life support to the main engine" 😂
I honestly like the styling of the iX more than this... even though it has that massive grill.
Congratulations Mercedes on successfully converting a first gen Buick Enclave to electric!

Doug, it's bubbly for the low drag coefficient, Player.
Mercedes hasn't made a vehicle my heart has desired in ages.

The I-PACE is still one of the best EVs you can buy! Incredibly underrated, check out the throttle House review on it! Better dynamically and same range as this even though it’s 5 years older.

As a former Mercedes owner: I'm ashamed of the direction the brand has gone.
After 6 months of ownership, customers can look forward to their cars being worth 1/2 of what they paid. No one wants to touch these goofy EV's - especially the dealerships.
You’re probably close. But no one saves up their money to buy, or lease, a car like this. It’s for people so affluent that the depreciation is meaningless.
yeah these things are like smartphones on wheels. after a couple of years nobody is gonna wanna buy a used EV they gonna buy the newest model. all those batteries and electronics/cameras are not going to hold up well and will end up in the junk yard in 10 years or less. how many teslas from 2010-2014 do you still see on the road? basically every tesla I see are brand new or a few years old

Doug definitely said it best! BMW is going ugly by being bold. Mercedes is going ugly by being bland. Frankly as much as I hate the styling of all new BMW and Mercedes, I prefer BMW because at least they’re taking risks
The lack of a front truck is a big miss for this SUV. If you're gonna go electric, take advantage of the space you have Mercedes.

i would absolutely love to come across doug filming one of his videos
That interior is nowhere near a $100k car deserves. The piano black, the cheap finger swiping crap, having to look away. It's so far beneath "Doug's" gushing that i just can't put stock in any of his opinions. It's been a trend over the past year or so, his bar is so damn low
In the USA, EQB is available with 3 rows of seats.
I personally like the EQE style, even if it’s a little boring, but the price kept me from even test driving one.
