Dostana probably hasn’t aged well in terms of LGBT but back then - a conservative Indian audience would only watch a gay friendly film if it were through comedic lenses so I applaud Karan Johar for introducing homosexuality into Indian cinema and then making a more nuanced statement through Kapoor and Sons.

@atul bharti I am born in 1997 I did not know about this movie. Being a Dharama production huge audience watched this movie and people somewhere started not considering other gender as a shame (even though third gender is still considered as a Joke) and kapoor and sons showed a very realistic reality of Gays in Indian families

The movie is still a gem in terms of comedy and for breaking the stigma of gay relationships in a country like India. Huge props to John and Abhishek for signing up for such a movie back then

No it didn't break stereotypes but still commendable. For a country like India I think it was the first major film that made it into people's bedroom and was acceptable. This was the first time I heard the word called Gay, and such people exists., shamefully I was probably 9th or 10th standard back then...
