0:00 - link the fire, but being an unkindled it's unclear if it works 0:50 - snuff the fire entirely setting all the cycles back to the very start. 3:20 - Kill the fire keeper and take the fire for yourself. Saving only you. 4:02 - marriage to Anri, transferring the dark sigils to you. Saving her from hollowing. 4:51 - Usurping the flame. Removing the Dark Sign//Symbol of Fire from humanity and lifting the curse altogether. (Possibly bearing the whole curse yourself)
1) The linking of the fire definitely works, but the flame is much much weaker after so many interations. This ending leads to the events in the DLC, where you travel foward in time and see the world covered in ash, as there is nothing else to offer to the flame. There is nothing left to do, but to escape to a new painted world, one created with the pigment of the dark soul of man. 2) This is the grand betrayal ending. The true end to the age of fire and start of the true dark age. It is also the true canonical ending to the series as a whole. Although the dark age begins, it is hinted that some day, a new age of fire will eventually begin, as a new flame will appear in the world. The balanced of the world is restored, and the first sin undone. 3) Out of greed, the ashen one, prevents the firekeeper from betraying the flame in the last second to keep the flame for himself. After all, ash seeketh embers. The flame doesn't go away, as there is still light in the world. This ending is very similar to the next one, with the distinction that you act on your own here and not in conjuction with the hollows of londor. 4) Usurping the flame means absorbing the flame, which keeps on existing inside the Lord of Hollows, so he can utilize its power. It is self preservation on its core and acting acording to the plans of Kaathe. This ending is the evolution of the Dark Lord ending in DS1. Kaathe seems to have realized that just letting the flame go away will not create a Dark Lord as someone else will eventually link the flame, so he comes up with this new plan instead.

In the linking fire ending, the first flame is only able to engulf its lord of cinder. Unlike in dark souls 1, it engulfed the entire Kiln. In Gwyn's case it even incinerated all his knights. However Dark souls 3 takes place after many, many champions have linked the fire. It seems after all this time, the first flame really is withering. Eventually it won't even be able to engulf a lord of cinder to which it'll just fade. This is what the linking fire ending showed, It is underwhelming and they could of done it better, but that's a solid theory as to what it signifies and it makes it atleast much more profound. The End of the fire ending is much better and seems more canonical.
I think the fact that it is underwhelming suited the DS III best. The underwhelming nature of the endure further highlights the fact that the First Flame IS dying.

@@samuelw01 kaathe didnt mislead oolacile or new londo imo, he just sort of told them the truth about the dark and expected them to use that knowledge in literally any way other than self destruction. that's just how kaathe is, he's more concerned with the fabric of the world than with anyone's well-being, and if someone doesn't use his very matter-of-fact wisdom for good then he sees it as a failure on their part with your character at the helm this time, it's a choice where it's really up to the player whether this is a good ending, a terrible one or something in between

For platinum trophy hunters: Make a backup savefile before you stab the boy/girl so you don't miss the original ending trophy, the 3rd ending has to happen because when you stab you will get a spell which is required for the trophy so you will need the 3rd ending as your default, second ending can be done no matter what but make a backup savefile again before you go in the final boss.
Ya know...I think my favorite moment in this entire game (admittedly I had a few) but the part where they start playing Lord Gwyn's theme fighting the Soul of Cinder...dude I had a hard time not tearing up. It was a beautiful bittersweet moment.

Greatsword mode-greatsword/ultra greatsword users who stunlock you to death. curved greatsword with pyromancy-people that use heavy armor and curved swords, not giving you a chance to counter(havel armor with curved sword, for example).Also couple with power within(glass build) and poison mist, a pyromancy used many times in the past(Dark Souls 2) to easily win a fight. spear with miracle-The spin to win attack shared by the halberds coupled with wrath of the gods. Both spammed in previous game for a quick kill. (WOG in DS1 and spin to win in DS2). Sorcery: I don´t even need to detail this one. Gwyn mode:The cosplay fanbase.
I feel like that last ending was kinda how Gwyn started. The players character represents Gwyn taking control and getting the lord soul from the flame. The hollows who are bowing down represent Gwyns Knights.
Notice how, in the Betrayal ending, the First Flame seems to burn just a little brighter as the Unkindled reaches for it. It’s like the Flame can’t bear to be touched by a being capable of such vile betrayal, and is exercising the last of its strength to try and keep you at bay. This primordial force that created the gods, that is the bedrock of reality itself, is *afraid* of you.

In betrayal ending, you actually killed the firekeeper, you act as though you are mindless beast who remembers no one and losing all purpose, and that is why you attracted by the fire and kill firekeeper who in your mindless brain thinks that she would extinguish the fire, the light in your darkness. and the female narrator basically said you're worthless ash unbecoming of a cinder but still seeks ember, so yeah. i think that's it, im not really into wumbo jumbo dark souls lore like vaati, i could be wrong

Only... is this our only choice?" Is not that the world is falling in the dark, is you. With the cycle of nature broken, with the champions of fire forcing the light age, dark will force its era. With the dark finally unshackled the man will take his true shape, left to wander eternally, just like in the beginnng (the first game cinematic pygmy-like creatures)
I like how the first two endings are really subdued since they are simply the continuation of the cycle and only by breaking the cycle do we get a more dramatic ending.
The usurpation of flame was the BEST ending because it gives over to the rise of the age of man. The second best was starting a new age of darkness. Keeping the flames lit were equally bad endings. In my opinion.

All the endings mean different things if you do the Lord of Hollows quest line you will get the wedding/Lord of Hollows ending. if you don't do any quest lines you'll get the first flame ending and then lastly if you give the fire keeper eyes to the fire keeper you'll get the betrayal ending. You can pretty much understand all the endings by what you see. hope that helps.
Watta Mugen Bandai Namco has got to be one of the best game publishers of all time because they actually listen to the consumers, literally the only thing i don't like about Dark Souls 3 is that your character is smaller than everything else

I have some thoughts about the "linking the fire" ending. Does it really continue the cycle? Because it seems to me as small hint that the flame has weakened significantly after so many times that it had been linked. OR that souls themselves have weakened after so many millenia of being claimed by certain undead and then eventually finding their way back into the world. You dont get the flashy ending of dark souls 1, where you burn like the sun. The unkindled sits down casually, slowly burning up. Can the continuation of the age of fire that the unkindled brings really last that long? Or have the ancient souls that he acquired simply cannot burn any longer? For me, every ending of dark souls 3 is a hint that the age of fire simply cannot continue anymore. Sure, after some time, tiny flames may arise once again, but thats really the only good way to bring back the days of the first age of fire, the one ruled by gwyn and the other lords.
Let the flame fade away, and when the time is right, it will start burning like the flame that gave rise to the ancient lords and ended the reign of the everlasting dragons.
+Ates Goksu my theory on this is that there is nothing really to burn. All the lord souls are still in the chosen undead from DkS2, which probably sits there enjoying how the cycle ends on his behalf. The lords of cinder presented ingame are humanity's attempts to sustain the fire with anything they could get (with Aldritch, they literally fed him sacrifices upon sacrifices, along with their souls, to then burn in the first flame), but really, they failed and the fire is finally fading. You linking the fire did nit help a bit, as you simply do not have the souls needed to sustain it.
A big plot theme of all games, but specially the third, is that no matter how hard humans or gods try, they will never be able to completely stop it from fading away. It makes sense that the flame has grow weaker, and now I t can barely consume the Ashen One and won't last much.
Ik this comment is 4 years old but She straight up says that she sees scattered flames in the future, which reveals it clearly won't be dark for eternity. Rather that a new age has come and another is set on the horizon
What these endings mean 1. You continue the cycle of the chosen undead and sacrifice yourself to keep the fire lit 2. Your hard reset the cycle so the events of dark souls 1 can eventually repeat as even if the fire is smothered, there will always be embers 3. You end the cycle and destroy everything 4. You start a new age of hollow The best ending is probably number 2 as it is gradually getting harder for the chosen undead to link the fire with the souls of cinder refusing and that.
I think it’s interesting that despite being called ‘the age of darkness’ and being made out to be some awful thing in the lore ending the fire is the best thing to do because it leads to an age of humans ruling themselves rather than powerful gods.

I forgot to mention my personal rating for the whole soul series and their difficulty: Dark Souls 1 is the best souls game as it was well made and pretty hard with lots of secrets, I give it in difficulty bout 9/10. Demon's Souls For me it wasn't that much better than dark souls 1 because it's damn short but I can say it was well made, it's the most difficult souls game as everytime you die it will make it even harder, difficulty 9.5/10. Dark Souls 2 Was abit easy till they nerfed magic to the ground then came the dlc with some hard bosses that were even harder than dark souls 3 bosses which made it a hard dark souls, difficulty 8.5/10 Dark Souls 3 I can say some bosses here are almost impossible to be beaten alone such as nameless king, prince lothric and any 2 phased boss that recovers hp to max, Difficulty 8/10. All of the souls game difficulty can be a 1/10 if you bring an online companion, it distracts the bosses making them look stupid giving their back to you. The games are awesome they are not bad, want a challenge? do it alone, want to have fun? do it online, want it to be longer? don't rush and kill everyone that comes as the normal enemies are much stronger than bosses if they come in groups specially the group before the prince boss. Hope you enjoy them, I'll try to collect all magic and get the remaining trophies but if I finish the game now, yuria will die and no one to give the books to so better stop before beating the prince lothric up the castle.
+Duck360Gaming2 This game has much better designed areas than DS1, none of them are incomplete, there are secrets and references, and there are no inconsistencies in the bosses like from the majority of shit ones from DS1 with their few shining stars that mostly come from the DLC. DS2 DLC bosses are not that hard. Not even Raime is harder than the Dragonslayer Armor to be honest. And he is definitely not harder than the Nameless King.
Seriously? you think this game's areas beats the ghost area of DS1? the forest area of DS1? Volcano area in DS2? Skeleton area in DS2? Dragon area in DS2? DS3 areas after I did the exploring time, I found out each area is VERY SMALL but filled with enemies to slow you down, SERIOUSLY you can beat the game under 1h without cheating!
Duck360Gaming2 New Londo is boring. The Ghosts are better in the manor in Irithyll, and require no stupid consumables. And the Darkwraiths are stronger, and faster in DS3. No comparison at all. I like both forest-y areas in both games. Even though DS3 makes it more of a swamp. Iron Keep was just that, enemies slowing you down. The place is nothing special at all. You mean the little fragment Huntsman's Copse were you fight the Skelleton Kings that ismade up of literally one straight path, and one curved path for a shortcut filled with bad enemies once the Necromancers are dead? Dragon Area in DS3 actually has more content than Dragon Aerie. Better bosses, better dragons/wyverns, and better enemies. Dragon Aerie looks much cooler with all the flying dragons. The areas are evidently larger in DS3 compared to other Souls games. Dark Souls 1 can be beat in 45 minutes, and DS2 in 54. DS1 areas are very small, and DS2 areas are just passageways. You compare Undead Settlement to Burg and Parish? They have no chance. Izalith in DS3 to DS1? For starters, DS3 finished the area, has interesting enemies, and it mixed the Deph's design in it to make it a labyrinth. In DS1 it is just there. The Catacombs in DS3 take a dump on DS1's. Lothric castle, and the newly designed Irithyll and path to Anor Londo are also more complex than Anor Londo itself in DS1, especially the interiors. I can go on for every area. Even Firelink itself and the related areas are more interesting.
Not to mention, ALL areas in ALL souls games are simple paths filled with enemies as obstacles. There are no mysteries other than fake walls here and there. The Great Hollow, being the only exception by actually being something more important. And the Great Hollow is still a very poorly made area with the most atrocious geometry in the game. Obviously, when you just run past them, like you can in all of them, the lenght decreases dramatically.
If you want running pass DS1 2 3, DS2 is by far longest run (No wall glitch) then comes DS1 then finally DS1 as the shortest, seriously just about 9 or 10 bosses on the way! lemme see: First boss after 1 min of starting the game, second boss after 3 min, 3rd boss (dunno if tree boss required for story?) 3min, 4th boss 3 min, 5th boss may stop you (watchers) 3min, going all the catacombs with stupid skeleton boss 3 min, after that we reach a cell area going down to the yharm or whatever 5min, get taken back up to meet dancer 0min, go fight the boss in the iced place 5min, going up to the armored boss 2 min, fighting prince 3min then final boss. so about 12 bosses or 11 if tree not required to beat the game, compare with old souls games the time and boss numbers. I see that DS1 has the best looking areas such as the tree with dragon down there was awesome, volcano of ds1 not 2, anor londo of course and all the studd I mentioned before. DS3 what does it have? pretty much the same but less work and very small, I didn't find any awesome area in it at all they all look normal to me, I loved the dark castle in DS2 was very beautiful looking like a castlevania thing I was surprised, also we got some new weird stuff like hidden fogged guys, ghosts in ds1, nothing special in ds3? where are their unique guys? I only see npc doing spell swords :S really? ok the bosses has two phases but that dies fast if bringing a companion unlike some bosses in past dark souls were your companion DIES QUICKLY and I think they can't use flask right? I can't remember much but they must make companion can't use flask only the host can.
I spent hours and fought with two "dark souls" bosses just to get the eyes of a fire keeper and then gave the eyes to the fire keeper just to get the betrayal ending and in that excitement, I forgot that I had to summon her near the bonefire and I ended up linking the fire with the shitty baseless ending. Now I have to redo this all of this again just to get the ending I originally wanted to get.
I find it odd most people seem to consider assuming the flame for themselves and pledging yourself to the Dark Sigil and becoming the only lord the "True / Best Ending," it's so cynical compared to the two other endings (excluding the betrayal ending of course), Even the End of Fire ending is more hopeful / optimistic, considering that the Fire Keepers eyes allow her to see that flames will not cease to exist entirely in the future, inferring that there's a chance in a world of peace for the future. I definitely don't think there is, fore say, a "True / Right or Wrong Ending," but there most certainly are more optimistic and content endings vs sinister and tyrannical endings.
The Guide To Dark Souls Endings: 1 You can sit on your throne/chair/the ground and wait for your eventual demise. 2 You can link the flame/fire/legacy and be burned to death. 3 You can smother the flame and become lord of darkness! (land is in ruins though) I think we all know which one is the "good" ending.
the second ending seems more like she has stopped talking to the current ashen one and is talking to the one who will arise when the age of fire begins anew
"But one day tiny flames will dance across the darkness, Like embers linked by lords passed." This ending and line always make me tear up in the context of the series as a whole. to let the natural cycle of the world continue... yes, its natural to fear the dark and the unknown but at some point, the light will shine again in a new age untainted by the folly of those who came before. at least that is my interruption.

Wow, I thought the other games had lots of influences of Berserk, which they do, but this game tops it. That Eclipse looks identical to the one in the mangas, and movies. I absolutely love this franchise and how From Software was inspired by Berserk and it's amazing dark story. From Software had to make a story just as dark ^_^
+Shaun Gill Probably one of the greatest Mangas/Animated movies ever made by Kentaro Miura. it's literally what From Software used as inspiration to make their game. After you read Berserk, you'll see the similarities between both and how much influence is in Dark Souls.
@@BMIASthe greatest piece of dark fantasy there is and has inspired almost every work of dark fantasy after the 90s , It's journey is like the journey of lord of the rings but instead of happy things, it's brutal and sad and the main character goes through more shit then anyone could bear and yet he still keeps moving forwards, still keeps trudging along , he is the struggler, the black swordsman, he is guts 🤙 The Greatsword in ds game and elden ring is his sword in the Manga, the dog demons in ds3 are his inner beast, and several costumes look like his different outfits through out the series and some locations In the Manga panels are locations in darksouls / elden ring its really cool I'd reccomend you watch the 90s anime before reading it It's 25 episodes long and will shock you like nothing has ever shocked you before 😅
I guess the ending's go like this, the first ending you link the flame and life carries on but the events of what happened will happen once more in the far future. If you end the do not link the flame you enter a world of darkness and nothing either lives or die, life will be hollow until one day the flames reignite and start the cycle again. If you kill the fire keeper you must simply want to take more souls to be powerful and possibly live forever, but you will be the one who survives as everything else turns hollow and you must live throughout darkness until the flame reignites. The last ending could possibly mean not only you link the fire but you become a god I assume, leading the world into a new start as hollows and all life look upon you as a god maybe? That's what I got. I simply linked the flame on the first play through even though I wanted to extinguished the flame, I stupidly did not look at the floor and summon the fire keeper. Either way loved this game and will definitely play through many a times. Not sure if I consider this my favourite out of the Souls series as Dark Souls 1 still holds dear to my heart, but I still consider Bloodborne to be my favourite FromSoftware game and possibly my favourite Souls game even though it isn;t a souls game but everyone relates the two series.
+PrinceBalor There was one thing that resonated throughout the whole game. A central theme. "You are unkindled, unfit to be cinder." I don't think you were able to rekindle the first flame in any ending, and that you are forced to let the flame die regardless of your choice.
+Chomp Haai Interesting thoughts. When we linked the flame in dark souls, the reigniting was intense, and even ended in an explosion, whereas in dark souls 3, it doesn't seem to do much. Sure, the flame seems to have some extra fuel for now, but it's still only a tiny flame dancing across your body, and it doesn't seem to extend the life of the Flame for more than a few minutes at most... (at least, that was the impression i got from the linking cutscene). We are Ashen after all... No use trying to set Ash alight... I myself find the End of Fire ending to be extremely interesting... Is it over or not? It's the first time we actually get to see the age of dark. In other games we just walked away, but now we watched over the flame until it faded, implying that there is no longer anything to rekindle, yet the firekeeper says that the flame isn't gone... Extremely ambigous indeed.
To Link the First Flame: This is the ending when you return all the "lord soul" you gathered back to the First Flame. This ending is consider the normal ending for DS 1 and 2, and will only last another thousand years before someone will need to "re-gather" all the "lord soul" again and return it back to the First Flame. The End of Fire: This is consider the true ending of the whole DS sequel. This ending requires you to restore the "sight" of the Firekeeper. This "sight" presumably contain not only knowledge of the FIRST firekeeper, but perhaps also the truth about the fading of the First Flame and what will come after it. Apparently, after many cycles, nature began to shape up and form the "balance" elsewhere; the balance is now able to contain within mankind, at a smaller scale. In DS3, both "dark soul" and "lord soul" are now bound to mankind, forming embers; and players were no longer the "undead", but an "Unkindled". Unlike the "undead", who leave behind "Humanity" when killed, an "unkindled" leaves behind "ashes" - signify the "balance" are slowly making mankind normal again. (When a human soul passes on, both "dark soul" and "lord soul" were able to neutralized one another, leaving no energy residual behind, only the ashes) Which is why letting the First Flame fade out totally is the true ending in Dark Soul 3, as there is no point going back to the First Flame again when mankind can now contain both "dark" and "light" within themselves.. The End of Fire (Alternative): This special ending involves taking the First Flame from the Firekeeper just as she was about to let it rest. What we know is that the First Flame is an energy gateway that allows the player to teleport, the motion of presenting the First Flame to the Dark sigil will allow more dark energy to escape through it at a much higher rate. (*Due to the lack of lord soul to suppress it) The ending could very well be the true "Dark" ending of whole DS sequel. Usurpation of Fire: This ending, similar to "Linking the First Flame" requires you to light the First Flame, but this time, not with the "lord soul" you gathered, but with the dark soul that you accumulated with the dark sigil. To do this, you need to be return to the "undead" state (similar to DS1 and 2) where you will turn "hollow" upon death. You need to first get the dark sigil from Yoel to break the "balance" within yourself. I presume this ending will only last another thousand years before someone will need to "re-gather" either the "lord soul" or "dark soul" again and return it back to the First Flame.

4:02 - marriage to Anri, transferring the dark sigils to you. Saving her from hollowing.
4:51 - Usurping the flame. Removing the Dark Sign//Symbol of Fire from humanity and lifting the curse altogether. (Possibly bearing the whole curse yourself)
1) The linking of the fire definitely works, but the flame is much much weaker after so many interations. This ending leads to the events in the DLC, where you travel foward in time and see the world covered in ash, as there is nothing else to offer to the flame. There is nothing left to do, but to escape to a new painted world, one created with the pigment of the dark soul of man.
2) This is the grand betrayal ending. The true end to the age of fire and start of the true dark age. It is also the true canonical ending to the series as a whole. Although the dark age begins, it is hinted that some day, a new age of fire will eventually begin, as a new flame will appear in the world. The balanced of the world is restored, and the first sin undone.
3) Out of greed, the ashen one, prevents the firekeeper from betraying the flame in the last second to keep the flame for himself. After all, ash seeketh embers. The flame doesn't go away, as there is still light in the world. This ending is very similar to the next one, with the distinction that you act on your own here and not in conjuction with the hollows of londor.
4) Usurping the flame means absorbing the flame, which keeps on existing inside the Lord of Hollows, so he can utilize its power. It is self preservation on its core and acting acording to the plans of Kaathe. This ending is the evolution of the Dark Lord ending in DS1. Kaathe seems to have realized that just letting the flame go away will not create a Dark Lord as someone else will eventually link the flame, so he comes up with this new plan instead.

Well, if you know the lore, somewhat yeah... But even then, vaguer than they've ever been I think
In the linking fire ending, the first flame is only able to engulf its lord of cinder. Unlike in dark souls 1, it engulfed the entire Kiln. In Gwyn's case it even incinerated all his knights. However Dark souls 3 takes place after many, many champions have linked the fire. It seems after all this time, the first flame really is withering. Eventually it won't even be able to engulf a lord of cinder to which it'll just fade. This is what the linking fire ending showed, It is underwhelming and they could of done it better, but that's a solid theory as to what it signifies and it makes it atleast much more profound. The End of the fire ending is much better and seems more canonical.
I think the fact that it is underwhelming suited the DS III best. The underwhelming nature of the endure further highlights the fact that the First Flame IS dying.

In the lord of hollows ending, you peacefully bring in the rightful age of darkness; and by becoming the lord of hollows you ensure that humans are never mistreated again.

Make a backup savefile before you stab the boy/girl so you don't miss the original ending trophy, the 3rd ending has to happen because when you stab you will get a spell which is required for the trophy so you will need the 3rd ending as your default, second ending can be done no matter what but make a backup savefile again before you go in the final boss.

I feel like that last ending was kinda how Gwyn started. The players character represents Gwyn taking control and getting the lord soul from the flame. The hollows who are bowing down represent Gwyns Knights.
Notice how, in the Betrayal ending, the First Flame seems to burn just a little brighter as the Unkindled reaches for it. It’s like the Flame can’t bear to be touched by a being capable of such vile betrayal, and is exercising the last of its strength to try and keep you at bay. This primordial force that created the gods, that is the bedrock of reality itself, is *afraid* of you.
Or maybe it's happy to, after all these ages and forced rekindlings, finally go out entirely.

Is not that the world is falling in the dark, is you. With the cycle of nature broken, with the champions of fire forcing the light age, dark will force its era. With the dark finally unshackled the man will take his true shape, left to wander eternally, just like in the beginnng (the first game cinematic pygmy-like creatures)
I like how the first two endings are really subdued since they are simply the continuation of the cycle and only by breaking the cycle do we get a more dramatic ending.

All the endings mean different things if you do the Lord of Hollows quest line you will get the wedding/Lord of Hollows ending. if you don't do any quest lines you'll get the first flame ending and then lastly if you give the fire keeper eyes to the fire keeper you'll get the betrayal ending. You can pretty much understand all the endings by what you see. hope that helps.

And so it was, that Havel the Rock became the Lord of Hollows
I have some thoughts about the "linking the fire" ending. Does it really continue the cycle? Because it seems to me as small hint that the flame has weakened significantly after so many times that it had been linked. OR that souls themselves have weakened after so many millenia of being claimed by certain undead and then eventually finding their way back into the world. You dont get the flashy ending of dark souls 1, where you burn like the sun. The unkindled sits down casually, slowly burning up. Can the continuation of the age of fire that the unkindled brings really last that long? Or have the ancient souls that he acquired simply cannot burn any longer? For me, every ending of dark souls 3 is a hint that the age of fire simply cannot continue anymore. Sure, after some time, tiny flames may arise once again, but thats really the only good way to bring back the days of the first age of fire, the one ruled by gwyn and the other lords.
Let the flame fade away, and when the time is right, it will start burning like the flame that gave rise to the ancient lords and ended the reign of the everlasting dragons.
+Ates Goksu my theory on this is that there is nothing really to burn. All the lord souls are still in the chosen undead from DkS2, which probably sits there enjoying how the cycle ends on his behalf. The lords of cinder presented ingame are humanity's attempts to sustain the fire with anything they could get (with Aldritch, they literally fed him sacrifices upon sacrifices, along with their souls, to then burn in the first flame), but really, they failed and the fire is finally fading. You linking the fire did nit help a bit, as you simply do not have the souls needed to sustain it.
A big plot theme of all games, but specially the third, is that no matter how hard humans or gods try, they will never be able to completely stop it from fading away. It makes sense that the flame has grow weaker, and now I t can barely consume the Ashen One and won't last much.
i believe by linking the flame you are just prolonging the suffering of the world

She straight up says that she sees scattered flames in the future, which reveals it clearly won't be dark for eternity. Rather that a new age has come and another is set on the horizon
What these endings mean
1. You continue the cycle of the chosen undead and sacrifice yourself to keep the fire lit
2. Your hard reset the cycle so the events of dark souls 1 can eventually repeat as even if the fire is smothered, there will always be embers
3. You end the cycle and destroy everything
4. You start a new age of hollow
The best ending is probably number 2 as it is gradually getting harder for the chosen undead to link the fire with the souls of cinder refusing and that.
I think it’s interesting that despite being called ‘the age of darkness’ and being made out to be some awful thing in the lore ending the fire is the best thing to do because it leads to an age of humans ruling themselves rather than powerful gods.

Aldia, in Scholar of the First Sin, tells us that even if the First Flame fades entirely, there is always a fragment remaining for reignition.
Yeah cause Gywn caused the First Sin by not letting a true age of Dark happen but instead he defiled the course of nature and kept his Age of Fire going

I forgot to mention my personal rating for the whole soul series and their difficulty:
Dark Souls 1 is the best souls game as it was well made and pretty hard with lots of secrets, I give it in difficulty bout 9/10.
Demon's Souls For me it wasn't that much better than dark souls 1 because it's damn short but I can say it was well made, it's the most difficult souls game as everytime you die it will make it even harder, difficulty 9.5/10.
Dark Souls 2 Was abit easy till they nerfed magic to the ground then came the dlc with some hard bosses that were even harder than dark souls 3 bosses which made it a hard dark souls, difficulty 8.5/10
Dark Souls 3 I can say some bosses here are almost impossible to be beaten alone such as nameless king, prince lothric and any 2 phased boss that recovers hp to max, Difficulty 8/10.
All of the souls game difficulty can be a 1/10 if you bring an online companion, it distracts the bosses making them look stupid giving their back to you.
The games are awesome they are not bad, want a challenge? do it alone, want to have fun? do it online, want it to be longer? don't rush and kill everyone that comes as the normal enemies are much stronger than bosses if they come in groups specially the group before the prince boss.
Hope you enjoy them, I'll try to collect all magic and get the remaining trophies but if I finish the game now, yuria will die and no one to give the books to so better stop before beating the prince lothric up the castle.

This game has much better designed areas than DS1, none of them are incomplete, there are secrets and references, and there are no inconsistencies in the bosses like from the majority of shit ones from DS1 with their few shining stars that mostly come from the DLC.
DS2 DLC bosses are not that hard. Not even Raime is harder than the Dragonslayer Armor to be honest. And he is definitely not harder than the Nameless King.
Seriously? you think this game's areas beats the ghost area of DS1? the forest area of DS1? Volcano area in DS2? Skeleton area in DS2? Dragon area in DS2?
DS3 areas after I did the exploring time, I found out each area is VERY SMALL but filled with enemies to slow you down, SERIOUSLY you can beat the game under 1h without cheating!

New Londo is boring. The Ghosts are better in the manor in Irithyll, and require no stupid consumables. And the Darkwraiths are stronger, and faster in DS3. No comparison at all.
I like both forest-y areas in both games. Even though DS3 makes it more of a swamp.
Iron Keep was just that, enemies slowing you down. The place is nothing special at all.
You mean the little fragment Huntsman's Copse were you fight the Skelleton Kings that ismade up of literally one straight path, and one curved path for a shortcut filled with bad enemies once the Necromancers are dead?
Dragon Area in DS3 actually has more content than Dragon Aerie. Better bosses, better dragons/wyverns, and better enemies. Dragon Aerie looks much cooler with all the flying dragons.
The areas are evidently larger in DS3 compared to other Souls games.
Dark Souls 1 can be beat in 45 minutes, and DS2 in 54.
DS1 areas are very small, and DS2 areas are just passageways.
You compare Undead Settlement to Burg and Parish? They have no chance.
Izalith in DS3 to DS1? For starters, DS3 finished the area, has interesting enemies, and it mixed the Deph's design in it to make it a labyrinth. In DS1 it is just there.
The Catacombs in DS3 take a dump on DS1's.
Lothric castle, and the newly designed Irithyll and path to Anor Londo are also more complex than Anor Londo itself in DS1, especially the interiors.
I can go on for every area. Even Firelink itself and the related areas are more interesting.
Not to mention, ALL areas in ALL souls games are simple paths filled with enemies as obstacles. There are no mysteries other than fake walls here and there. The Great Hollow, being the only exception by actually being something more important. And the Great Hollow is still a very poorly made area with the most atrocious geometry in the game.
Obviously, when you just run past them, like you can in all of them, the lenght decreases dramatically.
If you want running pass DS1 2 3, DS2 is by far longest run (No wall glitch) then comes DS1 then finally DS1 as the shortest, seriously just about 9 or 10 bosses on the way! lemme see:
First boss after 1 min of starting the game, second boss after 3 min, 3rd boss (dunno if tree boss required for story?) 3min, 4th boss 3 min, 5th boss may stop you (watchers) 3min, going all the catacombs with stupid skeleton boss 3 min, after that we reach a cell area going down to the yharm or whatever 5min, get taken back up to meet dancer 0min, go fight the boss in the iced place 5min, going up to the armored boss 2 min, fighting prince 3min then final boss.
so about 12 bosses or 11 if tree not required to beat the game, compare with old souls games the time and boss numbers.
I see that DS1 has the best looking areas such as the tree with dragon down there was awesome, volcano of ds1 not 2, anor londo of course and all the studd I mentioned before.
DS3 what does it have? pretty much the same but less work and very small, I didn't find any awesome area in it at all they all look normal to me, I loved the dark castle in DS2 was very beautiful looking like a castlevania thing I was surprised, also we got some new weird stuff like hidden fogged guys, ghosts in ds1, nothing special in ds3? where are their unique guys? I only see npc doing spell swords :S really? ok the bosses has two phases but that dies fast if bringing a companion unlike some bosses in past dark souls were your companion DIES QUICKLY and I think they can't use flask right? I can't remember much but they must make companion can't use flask only the host can.

I spent hours and fought with two "dark souls" bosses just to get the eyes of a fire keeper and then gave the eyes to the fire keeper just to get the betrayal ending and in that excitement, I forgot that I had to summon her near the bonefire and I ended up linking the fire with the shitty baseless ending. Now I have to redo this all of this again just to get the ending I originally wanted to get.
This game was released 5 years ago and I made the same stupid mistake too 😂

I find it odd most people seem to consider assuming the flame for themselves and pledging yourself to the Dark Sigil and becoming the only lord the "True / Best Ending," it's so cynical compared to the two other endings (excluding the betrayal ending of course),
Even the End of Fire ending is more hopeful / optimistic, considering that the Fire Keepers eyes allow her to see that flames will not cease to exist entirely in the future, inferring that there's a chance in a world of peace for the future.
I definitely don't think there is, fore say, a "True / Right or Wrong Ending," but there most certainly are more optimistic and content endings vs sinister and tyrannical endings.

The Guide To Dark Souls Endings:
1 You can sit on your throne/chair/the ground and wait for your eventual demise.
2 You can link the flame/fire/legacy and be burned to death.
3 You can smother the flame and become lord of darkness! (land is in ruins though)

Wow, I thought the other games had lots of influences of Berserk, which they do, but this game tops it. That Eclipse looks identical to the one in the mangas, and movies. I absolutely love this franchise and how From Software was inspired by Berserk and it's amazing dark story. From Software had to make a story just as dark ^_^

The Greatsword in ds game and elden ring is his sword in the Manga, the dog demons in ds3 are his inner beast, and several costumes look like his different outfits through out the series and some locations In the Manga panels are locations in darksouls / elden ring its really cool

I guess the ending's go like this, the first ending you link the flame and life carries on but the events of what happened will happen once more in the far future. If you end the do not link the flame you enter a world of darkness and nothing either lives or die, life will be hollow until one day the flames reignite and start the cycle again. If you kill the fire keeper you must simply want to take more souls to be powerful and possibly live forever, but you will be the one who survives as everything else turns hollow and you must live throughout darkness until the flame reignites. The last ending could possibly mean not only you link the fire but you become a god I assume, leading the world into a new start as hollows and all life look upon you as a god maybe?
That's what I got. I simply linked the flame on the first play through even though I wanted to extinguished the flame, I stupidly did not look at the floor and summon the fire keeper. Either way loved this game and will definitely play through many a times. Not sure if I consider this my favourite out of the Souls series as Dark Souls 1 still holds dear to my heart, but I still consider Bloodborne to be my favourite FromSoftware game and possibly my favourite Souls game even though it isn;t a souls game but everyone relates the two series.

+PrinceBalor There was one thing that resonated throughout the whole game. A central theme. "You are unkindled, unfit to be cinder." I don't think you were able to rekindle the first flame in any ending, and that you are forced to let the flame die regardless of your choice.
+Chomp Haai Interesting thoughts. When we linked the flame in dark souls, the reigniting was intense, and even ended in an explosion, whereas in dark souls 3, it doesn't seem to do much. Sure, the flame seems to have some extra fuel for now, but it's still only a tiny flame dancing across your body, and it doesn't seem to extend the life of the Flame for more than a few minutes at most... (at least, that was the impression i got from the linking cutscene). We are Ashen after all... No use trying to set Ash alight...
I myself find the End of Fire ending to be extremely interesting... Is it over or not? It's the first time we actually get to see the age of dark. In other games we just walked away, but now we watched over the flame until it faded, implying that there is no longer anything to rekindle, yet the firekeeper says that the flame isn't gone... Extremely ambigous indeed.

To Link the First Flame: This is the ending when you return all the "lord soul" you gathered back to the First Flame. This ending is consider the normal ending for DS 1 and 2, and will only last another thousand years before someone will need to "re-gather" all the "lord soul" again and return it back to the First Flame.
The End of Fire: This is consider the true ending of the whole DS sequel. This ending requires you to restore the "sight" of the Firekeeper. This "sight" presumably contain not only knowledge of the FIRST firekeeper, but perhaps also the truth about the fading of the First Flame and what will come after it. Apparently, after many cycles, nature began to shape up and form the "balance" elsewhere; the balance is now able to contain within mankind, at a smaller scale. In DS3, both "dark soul" and "lord soul" are now bound to mankind, forming embers; and players were no longer the "undead", but an "Unkindled". Unlike the "undead", who leave behind "Humanity" when killed, an "unkindled" leaves behind "ashes" - signify the "balance" are slowly making mankind normal again. (When a human soul passes on, both "dark soul" and "lord soul" were able to neutralized one another, leaving no energy residual behind, only the ashes) Which is why letting the First Flame fade out totally is the true ending in Dark Soul 3, as there is no point going back to the First Flame again when mankind can now contain both "dark" and "light" within themselves..
The End of Fire (Alternative): This special ending involves taking the First Flame from the Firekeeper just as she was about to let it rest. What we know is that the First Flame is an energy gateway that allows the player to teleport, the motion of presenting the First Flame to the Dark sigil will allow more dark energy to escape through it at a much higher rate. (*Due to the lack of lord soul to suppress it) The ending could very well be the true "Dark" ending of whole DS sequel.
Usurpation of Fire: This ending, similar to "Linking the First Flame" requires you to light the First Flame, but this time, not with the "lord soul" you gathered, but with the dark soul that you accumulated with the dark sigil. To do this, you need to be return to the "undead" state (similar to DS1 and 2) where you will turn "hollow" upon death. You need to first get the dark sigil from Yoel to break the "balance" within yourself. I presume this ending will only last another thousand years before someone will need to "re-gather" either the "lord soul" or "dark soul" again and return it back to the First Flame.
