Sadly, when idiots write off IR music/songs as just "average" or "mokkai" or just a tabla-violin repetition, I wonder WHAT the hell did they even realize or even TRY to understand about his music and have always felt like slapping them. KAMAL - IR are that incomparable unique COMBINATION of actor-composer. (Please let me know if anyone finds ANY OTHER combo like that in the history of cinema!) They KNOW how to extract the best stuff from each other!! I'm always in AWE of that duo.

PACHA MALA POOVU is an ideal song for falling asleep - a breezy lullaby. PAADI VAA THENDRALE is a mood-uplifter and to think it was out in 1983?!! WOW! IR MUSIC has always been TOO AHEAD of its times and hence our people DID NOT KNOW its worth! The perfect analogy is like kids of millionaires / billionaires failing to realize the importance or value of money, hard-work, sacrifice and compassion. Our people were given TOO MUCH in terms of music by IR, that even the most EXPENSIVE thing sounded like average cheap stuff to them. VERY SAD and unfortunate.

I love that song ...esp. the arrangement Shehnai , Santoor (maybe keyboard), Mridangam and a Tik Tik sound in equal intervals !!! with his regular string section ..wow !!! who can imagine such a orchestral arrangment ?? You always claim that carnatic music originated in the state of karnataka. There is no historical basis for that claim . Purandara Dasa was a great composer and we can even call him Pitamaha of carnatic music. But he was not the inventor of it. In silappathikaram and natya sastra (bharatha muni) references are found to this music. Its origin cannot be traced with precision. So please avoid claiming that carnatic music originated in Karnataka
My claim is that the original complete form of classical music is Tamil pann marabisai. The form what now exist is a geographical music form which has all its root from Tamil isai marabhu. I call it kannada pradhesa isai
Let us not break our heads to find out where this music originated from. Let us enjoy it. I like your exposition of the music of Ilayaraja the great.
